Abstract:
This article will survey the history of research on Genesis 37-50 during the last generation. Its main proposition is that we are not dealing with a Joseph, but with an Israel-Joseph story. The arguments, therefore, no longer focus on source criticism, but on the question of tradition history, viz. whether chs. 38 and 49 have to be included. If this is accepted, a date in the Persian period for the entire pre-Priestly text suggests itself.

AbstractA regime of quasi-stationary microwave generation in moderately relativistic microwave oscillator of the twistron type with 50 ± 20% efficiency of electron beam power conversion into electromagnetic radiation has been obtained in experiment through optimization of the electron–wave interaction. For the selected electron beam parameters (diode voltage, 210 kV; beam current. 1.36 kA) the output microwave power at 10.63 GHz frequency was 140 ± 40 MW in a guiding magnetic field of about 1.9 T. The duration of microwave pulses was about 16 ns.

Abstract:
In contrast to earlier empirical research that documents the import and export price elasticities at an aggregate level, this article estimates bilateral price and income impacts on Pakistan’s trade performance with its four major trading partners, i.e., USA, UK, Germany, and Japan. Using quarterly data for the period 1982-I-1996-IV and the Three-stage Least Square technique, the study documents the impact of real devaluation, real income, export incentives, and domestic inflation on trade performance with respect to each of the four trading partners.

Abstract:
Currently, organ trafficking occupies a leading position among transnational organized criminal groups due to the high demand for illegal services and the relatively low rates of detection of illegal actions by law enforcement agencies. In this context, the purpose of the paper was to conduct a comparative analysis of the foundations of the legal regulation of criminal liability for organ trafficking and trafficking in the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, and the European Union to form scientifically substantiated conclusions and suggestions for improving existing national legislation. To achieve this purpose, general scientific and special methods were used. The study also uncovers vectors and substantiates the feasibility of implementing EU legislation in the field of organ trafficking and trafficking in the criminal legislation of the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan, predicts the prospects for improving legal regulation on the subject matter and outlined the priority actions of legislative bodies. At the same time, promising areas of research in this matter are the issues of punishability of such acts and the appointment of the appropriate punishment. Furthermore, the creation of a highly regulated transplantation system at the national level was proposed, which is to be managed by a national transplantation authority with broad oversight powers. The creation of such a centralised competent authority will ensure the implementation of the scope of measures that would effectively reduce the risk of organ trafficking and trafficking and protect potential victims.

Abstract:
Background: Preterm labour and delivery contributes significantly to perinatal morbidity and mortality in twin gestation. Measurement of cervical length during antenatal period and subsequent follow up may identify women at risk for preterm labour. The purpose of this study was to determine if measurement of cervical length at 22 to 26 weeks can be used as a predictor of preterm labour in twin pregnancy. Methods: This prospective observational study was carried out in 50 women with twin gestation in a tertiary care teaching hospital. Cervical length was measured using transvaginal sonography and repeated every four weeks till delivery. Cervical length of ≤30 mm was taken as short cervix and delivery before 37 weeks was taken as preterm delivery. Results: Total of 18 out of 50 women (36%) delivered between 32 to 34 weeks, 14 out of 50 (28%) delivered between 34 to 37 weeks, 7 out of 50 (14%) delivered at less than 32 weeks. Therefore, total preterm deliveries at less than 37 weeks were 78%. Total 11 out of 50 (22%) delivered at term i.e. at more than 37weeks. In women, who had short cervical length (≤ 30 mm) at the time of presentation, 14 out of 37 (38 %) delivered between 30 to 34 weeks, 12 out of 37 (32 %) women delivered between 34 to 37 weeks, 5 out of 37 (14%) delivered at ≤ 30 weeks. Rest 6 out of 37 (16 %) delivered after 37 weeks. Conclusions: Short cervical length of ≤30 mm on transvaginal sonography at 22-26 weeks of gestation in twin pregnancy may be used as a screening tool in prediction of preterm labour in asymptomatic twin pregnancy.

Abstract:
SummaryProtein S (PS) is an anticoagulant plasma protein whose deficiency is associated with increased risk of venous thrombosis. PS directly inhibits thrombin generation by the blood coagulation pathways by several mechanisms, including by binding coagulation factors (F) Va and Xa. To identify PS sequences that mediate inhibition of FVa activity, antibodies and synthetic peptides based on PS sequence were prepared and employed in plasma coagulation assays, purified component prothrombinase assays, binding assays, and immunoblots. In the absence of activated protein C, monoclonal antibody (Mab) S4 shortened FXa-induced clotting in normal plasma but not in PS-depleted plasma. Mab S4 also blocked PS inhibition of FVa-dependent prothrombinase activity in purified component assays in the absence or presence of phospholipids and inhibited binding of PS to immobilised FVa. Epitope mapping identified N-terminal region residues 37–67 of PS as this antibody’s epitope. A peptide representing PS residues 37–50 inhibited FVa-dependent prothrombinase activity in a noncompetitive manner, with 50% inhibition observed at 11 µM peptide, whereas a peptide with a D-amino acid sequence of 37–50 was ineffective. FVa, but not FXa, bound specifically to the immobilised peptide representing residues 37–50, and the peptide inhibited binding of FVa to immobilised PS. These data implicate PS residues 37–50 as a binding site for FVa that mediates, at least in part, the direct inhibition of FVa-dependent procoagulant activity by PS.

Abstract:
SUMMARY Objectives To evaluate the effect of adhesive temperature on the resin-dentin bond strength (μTBS), nanoleakage (NL), adhesive layer thickness (AL), and degree of conversion (DC) of ethanol/water- (SB) and acetone-based (PB) etch-and-rinse adhesive systems. Methods The bottles of the two adhesives were kept at each temperature (5°C, 20°C, 37°C, and 50°C) for 2 hours before application to demineralized dentin surfaces of 40 molars. Specimens were prepared for μTBS testing. Bonded sticks (0.8 mm2) were tested under tension (0.5 mm/min). Three bonded sticks from each tooth were immersed in silver nitrate and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. The DC of the adhesives was evaluated by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy. Results Lower μTBS was observed for PB at 50°C. For SB, the μTBS values were similar for all temperatures. DC was higher at 50°C for PB. Higher NL and thicker AL were observed for both adhesives in the 5°C and 20°C groups compared to the 37°C and 50°C groups. The higher temperatures (37°C or 50°C) reduced the number of pores within the adhesive layer of both adhesive systems. Conclusions It could be useful to use an ethanol/water-based adhesive at 37°C or 50°C and an acetone-based adhesive at 37°C to improve adhesive performance.

Abstract:
This study sought to determine whether the temperature of water ingested before exercise alters the onset threshold and subsequent thermosensitivity of local vasomotor and sudomotor responses after exercise begins. Twenty men [24 (SD 4) yr of age, 75.8 (SD 8.1) kg body mass, 52.3 (SD 7.7) ml·min−1·kg−1peak O2consumption (V̇o2peak)] ingested 1.5°C, 37°C, or 50°C water (3.2 ml/kg), rested for 5 min, and then cycled at 50% V̇o2peakfor 15 min at 23.0 (SD 0.9) °C and 32 (SD 10) % relative humidity. Mean body temperature (Tb), local sweat rate (LSR), and skin blood flow (SBF) were measured. In a subset of eight men [25 (SD 5) yr of age, 78.6 (SD 8.3) kg body mass, 48.9 (SD 11.1) ml·min−1·kg−1V̇o2peak], blood pressure was measured and cutaneous vascular conductance (CVC) was determined. The change in Tbwas greater at the onset of LSR measurement with ingestion of 1.5°C than 50°C water [ΔTb= 0.19 (SD 0.15) vs. 0.11 (SD 0.12) °C, P = 0.04], but not 37°C water [ΔTb= 0.14 (SD 0.14) °C, P = 0.23], but did not differ between trials for SBF measurement [ΔTb= 0.18 (SD 0.15) °C, 0.11 (SD 0.13) °C, and 0.09 (SD 0.09) °C with 1.5°C, 37°C, and 50°C water, respectively, P = 0.07]. Conversely, the thermosensitivity of LSR and SBF was not different [LSR = 1.11 (SD 0.75), 1.11 (SD 0.75), and 1.34 (SD 1.11) mg·min−1·cm−2·°C−1with 1.5°C, 37°C, and 50°C ingested water, respectively ( P = 0.46); SBF = 717 (SD 882), 517 (SD 606), and 857 (SD 904) %baseline arbitrary units (AU)/°C with 1.5°C, 37°C, and 50°C ingested water, respectively ( P = 0.95)]. After 15 min of exercise, LSR and SBF were greater with ingestion of 50°C than 1.5°C water [LSR = 0.40 (SD 0.17) vs. 0.31 (SD 0.19) mg·min−1·cm−2( P = 0.02); SBF = 407 (SD 149) vs. 279 (SD 117) %baseline AU ( P < 0.001)], but not 37°C water [LSR = 0.50 (SD 0.22) mg·min−1·cm−2; SBF = 324 (SD 169) %baseline AU]. CVC was statistically unaffected [275 (SD 81), 340 (SD 114), and 384 (SD 160) %baseline CVC with 1.5°C, 37°C, and 50°C ingested water, respectively, P = 0.30]. Collectively, these results support the concept that visceral thermoreceptors modify the central drive for thermoeffector responses.

Abstract:
The present work was undertaken to study the effect of rat adrenomedullin (rADM (1–50) and its C-terminal fragment (11–50)) in the endothelium-intact arterial and venous vasculatures of the rat perfused mesenteric bed. rADM (1–50) and the fragment rADM (11–50) (1–1000 pmol) induced a dose-dependent and endothelium-independent vasodilation on the arterial mesenteric vasculature. However, both peptides were inactive on the venous side of this vascular bed. The CGRP1 receptor antagonist, hCGRP8–37 (1 μM), markedly reduced the vasodilation caused by rADM (1–50) in the arterial mesenteric vasculature. Thus, our results show that rADM (1–50) and its C-terminal fragment rADM (11–50) share properties similar to those of hCGRP. The blocking effect of hCGRP8–37 supports a role for CGRP1 receptor activation by adrenomedullin in this vascular preparation.Key words: adrenomedullin (1–50), adrenomedullin (11–50), CGRP1 receptors, rat mesenteric bed, vasodilation.

Abstract:
The article deals with the provisions of international standards of treatment of convicted women and their implementation in the process of execution of imprisonment. The results of the analysis of international documents and practice of application showed the following problems: physiological, social, moral, psychological and criminological characteristics of women are not taken into account, which indicates the absence of gender differences in the legal situation. In addition, this circumstance has a negative impact on the implementation of the penal policy of Russia. The study of the provisions of international and domestic penal legislation, as well as the practice of carrying out the maternal function of a woman sentenced to imprisonment, preparing her for release and problems after release indicate the existence of different approaches in the policies of specific States.

Abstract:
Abstract. The average daily gains of 6,420 Czech Pied bulls (dual-purpose, Simmental type) from 7 breeding stations were analyzed using single-trait animal models, a multi-trait animal model and random regression models. The effects of station, year and season were taken into account by creating herd-year-season classes (HYS) with the season being defined as a 3-month class starting with December. Legendre polynomials of the 1st to the 4th degree were used to describe the daily gains within the HYS classes as well as to model bull-specific gain curves. The comparison of the h2-values estimated with single-trait models and those gained with a multi-trait model returned only insignificant differences. The comparison of genetic parameters based on the multi-trait model to those from different random regression models shows that polynomials of at least the 2nd degree are to be used for the genetic analysis of daily gains.

Abstract:
The purpose of the work. Investigation of the manifestations of rock pressure in the retractable road of a steep coal seam to ensure the operational state of production and increase the safety of work at the excavation site of a deep coal mine. The research used a comprehensive approach, including analysis and generalization of theoretical and experimental research on this problem, field experiment to study the stability of retractable drifts and processing of experimental data. To assess the stability of the preparatory workings, mine studies were performed to study the manifestations of rock pressure in the retractable drift under different methods of protection, when the magnitude of the displacement of lateral rocks on the contour and change the cross-sectional area of the drift along the excavation section. As a result of the performed researches the conditions of stability of retractable drifts of steep coal seams at protection by fires from wooden sleepers and bushes from risers are substantiated. It is recorded that in the zone of influence of mining works, the fastening in the retractable road is deformed and has characteristic curves from the roof. At a distance of l > 80 m behind the clearing face, the loss of the cross-sectional area of the excavation was about 50 % with the method of protection by bushes from the risers and 30 % with the use of wooden fires. It is experimentally proved that with the method of protection of precinct preparatory workings by rigid wooden structures in the form of bushes from risers, the change of cross-sectional area of the retractable lane behind the treatment face in the area of impact of treatment works occurs linearly with increasing length of the excavation site. To ensure the stability of retractable drifts in a deep coal mine with a steep occurrence of coal seams, it is advisable to use aimless methods of protection, when to support the side rocks are used pliable structures in the form of fires made of wooden sleepers. The use of this method of protection of the preparatory workings can reduce the likelihood of landslides and increase the safety of mining operations.

"Co-inoculation with two non-infectious cDNA copies of potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) leads to the appearance of novel fully infectious variants." Acta Biochimica Polonica 52, no. 1 (March 31, 2005): 87–98. http://dx.doi.org/10.18388/abp.2005_3490.

Abstract:
Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) is one of the smallest (about 360 nt) infectious plant agents. It is composed of a single-stranded circular non-coding RNA molecule. In the course of previous passage experiments with two intermediate PSTVd variants I2 and I4, three non-infectious clones (I2-50, I4-37 and I4 VI-17) were found. When inoculated separately as cDNAs on tomato "Rutgers" test plants these variants did not induce any visible disease symptoms and did not produce progeny. The presence of such non-infectious variants raises several questions about their origin and biology and to answer them, mixed co-infections with cDNA copies of two non-infectious variants (I2-50, I4-37) were performed. PSTVd infection was observed in seven out of 30 inoculated plants. The progeny isolated from three separate plants contained novel variants, together with the parental I2 and I4 sequences. It is conceivable that the appearance of repaired PSTVd molecules, clearly capable of cell-to-cell movement leading to the systemic infection, results from recombination events. An analysis of the recombinant molecules and comparison with databases identified the specific sites responsible for the restricted infectivity of the I2-50 and I4-37 PSTVd variants. In parallel experiments in which (+) strand PSTVd infectious transcripts were used, no recombinants were observed, and the original I2-50 and I4-37 non-infectious sequences were not detected in the progeny.

Abstract:
Similar to IL-1α and IL-33, IL-1 family member IL-37b translocates to the nucleus and is associated with suppression of innate and adaptive immunity. Here we demonstrate an extracellular function of the IL-37 precursor and a processed form. Recombinant IL-37 precursor reduced LPS-induced IL-6 by 50% (P < 0.001) in highly inflammatory human blood-derived M1 differentiated macrophages derived from selective subjects but not M2 macrophages. In contrast, a neutralizing monoclonal anti–IL-37 increased LPS-induced IL-6, TNFα and IL-1β (P < 0.01). The suppression by IL-37 was consistently observed at low picomolar but not nanomolar concentrations. Whereas LPS induced a 12-fold increase in TNFα mRNA, IL-37 pretreatment decreased the expression to only 3-fold over background (P < 0.01). Mechanistically, LPS-induced p38 and pERK were reduced by IL-37. Recombinant IL-37 bound to the immobilized ligand binding α-chain of the IL-18 receptor as well as to the decoy receptor IL-1R8. In M1 macrophages, LPS increased the surface expression of IL-1R8. Compared with human blood monocytes, resting M1 cells express more surface IL-1R8 as well as total IL-1R8; there was a 16-fold increase in IL-1R8 mRNA levels when pretreated with IL-37. IL-37 reduced LPS-induced TNFα and IL-6 by 50–55% in mouse bone marrow-derived dendritic cells, but not in dendritic cells derived from IL-1R8–deficient mice. In mice subjected to systemic LPS-induced inflammation, pretreatment with IL-37 reduced circulating and organ cytokine levels. Thus, in addition to a nuclear function, IL-37 acts as an extracellular cytokine by binding to the IL-18 receptor but using the IL-1R8 for its anti-inflammatory properties.
