Abstract:
The 3D/3D+ multidimensional geriatric assessment tool provides an optimal model of emergency care for patients aged 75 and over who attend the Emergency Department (ED). The baseline, or static, component (3D) stratifies the degree of frailty prior to the acute illness, while the current, or dynamic, component (3D+) assesses the multidimensional impact caused by the acute illness and helps to guide the choice of care facility for patients upon their discharge from the ED. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of the 3D/3D+ to predict short- and long-term adverse outcomes in ED patients aged 75 years and older. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to identify the predictors of mortality 30 days after 3D/3D+ assessment. Two hundred and seventy-eight patients (59.7% women) with a median age of 86 years (interquartile range: 83–90) were analyzed. According to the baseline component (3D), 83.1% (95% CI: 78.2–87.3) presented some degree of frailty. The current component (3D+) presented alterations in 60.1% (95% CI: 54.1–65.9). The choice of care facility at ED discharge indicated by the 3D/3D+ was considered appropriate in 96.4% (95% CI: 93.0–98.0). Thirty-day all-cause mortality was 19.4%. Delirium and functional decline were the dimensions on the 3D/3D+ that were independently associated with 30-day mortality. These two dimensions had an area under receiver operating characteristic of 0.80 (95% CI: 0.73–0.86) for predicting 30-day mortality. The 3D/3D+ tool enhances the provision of comprehensive care by ED professionals, guides them in the choice of patients’ discharge destination, and has a prognostic validity that serves to establish future therapeutic objectives.

Abstract:
The advancement in 3D electron diffraction (3D ED) techniques that lead to a revolution in molecular structure determination using nano-sized crystals is now achieving atomic resolution. The structures can be obtained from 3D ED data with tools similar to those used for X-ray structure determination. In this context, the MoPro software, originally designed for structure and charge density refinements using X-ray diffraction data, has been adapted. Structure refinement on 3D ED data was achieved via implementation of electron scattering factors available in the literature and by application of the Mott–Bethe equation to X-ray scattering factors computed from the multipolar atom model. The multipolar model was parametrized using the transferable pseudoatom databanks ELMAM2 and UBDB. Applying the independent atom model (IAM), i.e. spherical neutral atom refinement, to 3D ED data on β-glycine in MoPro resulted in structure and refinement statistics comparable to those obtained from other well known software. Use of the transferred aspherical atom model (TAAM) led to improvement of the refinement statistics and a better fit of the model to the 3D ED data as compared with the spherical atom refinement. The anisotropic displacement parameters of non-H atoms appear underestimated by typically 0.003 Å2 for the non-H atoms in IAM refinement compared with TAAM. Thus, MoPro is shown to be an effective tool for crystal structure refinement on 3D ED data and allows use of a spherical or a multipolar atom model. Electron density databases can be readily transferred with no further modification needed when the Mott–Bethe equation is applied.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In questo studio sono state analizzate acquisizioni tridimensionali effettuate tramite Laser Scan e tramite applicazioni Structure from Motion/Dense Stereo View.

Doctoral thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2016. http://amsdottorato.unibo.it/7658/1/Tesi_dottorato_Francesco_Mazzotta.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
The mechanical performance of an asphalt mixture is largely dependent on the properties of its constituents and by the way they reciprocally interact in the bituminous layer. In particular, the stress-strain response of the road pavements is closely related to the rheological behavior of the bituminous binder and of its interaction with the finest part of the lytic skeleton. Therefore, it is important to study in the laboratory by means of advanced rheological tests, how mastics (Bitumen-Filler Systems) and mortars (Bitumen-Filler-Sand Systems) react to dynamic loads and thermal stresses. Moreover, the understanding of the contacts mechanisms within the bitumen-filler system, through 3D micro-mechanical models, should allow for a deeper analysis of the mastic rheological behavior. Based on these considerations, in a socio-economic context in which it is necessary to reduce the environmental impact caused by the construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructures, bituminous mastics containing different reclaimed fillers from the industrial production wastes were studied. For this purpose, advanced rheological tests have been first validated and then implemented and combined with the 3D DEM models development. Results showed that the methods used to study the bituminous mastics and mortars allowed to understand the effects due to the addition of innovative and recycled fillers within the mixtures blend, highlighting as these can increase the asphalt mixture performance during its service life.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract The translation is based on the United Bible Societies Greek New Testament (3d ed., corrected). As far as possible, important individual Greek words have been rendered by a single English term. Occasionally the word order is strained to reflect the original. The oldest Greek manuscripts do not contain punctuations, quotation marks, capitalizations, or parentheses, and so the presence of these markers in translations gives the gospel text a clarity which originally it did not have. This clarity is generally an advantage, but occasionally it hides the rich ambiguity of the original-an ambiguity which is sometimes heightened by the ambivalence conveyed by specific words. In the present translation the ambiguity of certain significant words is reflected by a slash (for example, “overcome/grasped’’ in 1:5).

Abstract:
Abstract When he died at age ninety-three on July 8, 1966, Samson Eitrem, professor emeritus of classical philology at Oslo University, left an unfinished manuscript of over seven hundred pages entitled Magie und Mantik der Griechen und Romer, written for the renowned Handbuch der Altertumswissenschaft. Its intention was to give an exhaustive treatment of both magic and divination, topics that Martin P. Nilsson, Eitrem’s contemporary (1874-1967), had touched upon in much shorter form in his Geschichte der griechischen Religion in the same Handbuch (3d ed., vol. 1 [1967]; 2d ed., vol. 2 [1961]). Eitrem was ideally suited for this task. Being a general classical philologist with an interest in, and knowledge of, archaeology as well, his scholarly activities were concerned especially with two fields: papyrology and the history of religion. The first manifested itself already in his first publication, an article on Bacchylides in the Oslo newspaper Morgenbladet in 1898 (a year after Kenyon had published his fundamental edition of the fragments); the second flourished early in the still-valuable monograph Opferriten und Voropfer der Griechen und Romer of 1915. The two fields merged in the study of ancient magic. From a trip to Egypt in 1920, Eitrem had brought back several papyri, among them magical ones, purchased from his own funds and donated to the Oslo University Library. After a thorough study of the major extant magical papyri in Paris, Berlin, and London, which yielded new readings and interpretations (1923), Eitrem edited the four Oslo magical papyri with translation and commentary (1925 and again for Preisendanz’ Papyri Graecae Magicae, to which Eitrem was recruited as a collaborator shortly after World War I).

Eichhorn, states the nature of the task succinctly: A complete history of the Hebrew text would enumerate, with reference to causes and consequences, all the essential and accidental changes, whether for good or evil, which it has undergone in the process of thousands of years and in its passage through men’s hands, from the time of its first composition down to the latest periods. (1888: 114 = German 3d ed., 1803) If a textual history maps “all the essential and accidental changes” through time, then what we require first is a collection and analysis of the secondary readings. In this formulation, textual history is (to oversimplify only slightly) a history of error. Modern methods for constructing textual histories have refined this view but generally affirm the significance of textual error in historical inquiry. In this area, “error” is used as a shorthand for “readings of secondary origin,” including intentional changes as well as accidental (West 1973: 32). One difference between the procedures of textual history (historia textus) and textual criticism per se (critica textus) is that in the former errors are of primary importance and in the latter they are to be removed (see Chiesa 1992a: 264-67).

Abstract:
Abstract The study will address the failure reasons of wells and point out the high-density fracture zones, to drain out the remaining hydrocarbons in the field. A robust 3D geological model was developed based on 3D seismic interpretation. The rock mechanical properties of carbonates were incorporated. The total strain i.e., the background or remote strain (Bulk deformation) and the strain from displacement along the fault surfaces are mapped to each segment/element of the generated fault surfaces. This total strain calculates stresses and the failure for deformation surface. The geomechanical model based on Elastic Dislocation (ED) theory identified strain fields on horizon surface / observation grids and then finally fractures corridor and their characteristics i.e. distribution, orientation. Fault planes generated from interpretation play a major role in the ED method for fracture analysis. The fault surface consists of an array of panels, each contributing to the ED equation calculation. The main outcome is the sub-seismic faults and fractures identification around larger faults on the horizontal observation medium. The identified fractures corridors characteristics, distribution and orientation changes along the strike of the major fault system. In the developed ED model the predicated fractures system are parallel to the major reverse fault direction, but oblique fractures corridor is also observed along the middle segments, aligning with observed variations in structure dip. The crestal portion of the anticline has a higher density of fractures than the rim. The ED modelling fractures results were verified against FMI data of the targeted horizon, which demonstrated that the wells which were drilled in high-density fracture zones (modelled) have produced hydrocarbons and vice versa. There is a correlation between modelled results with image logs and well-testing results (DST's), which increases the reliance on the ED theory's ability to correctly identify small-scale (sub-seismic) fractures, joints and faults system. The Eocene carbonate reservoirs have low primary porosity and permeability. The productivity of these reservoirs is dependent on permeable natural fractures and sub-seismic faults. The identification of these features is a major problem before drilling while, conventional techniques do not provide optimum solutions to their understanding. A case study of compressional tectonic regime in Himalayan fold & thrust belts is presented here, where an integrated approach is applied in the form of geomechanical modelling, which is built on the ED theory provide a reliable base for well planning.

Abstract:
The walls and moats of the city of Otranto. An integrated three-dimensional survey for studying the architectural and archaeological evidenceThe system of fortifications that rings the old town of the city of Otranto (Puglia, Italy) conserves the still visible traces of structures belonging to various historical periods, attesting to the evolution of the settlement’s defensive system from the Messapian period (fifth century BC) to the Aragonese period (sixteenth century). As part of a recent urban renewal project targeting the area of the moats, new archaeological, historic and architectural investigations were conducted. These included a painstaking analysis of the circuit of defensive walls and the broad and deep moat, which contains valuable archaeological and architectural evidence that has never before been studied. The use of advanced surveying technologies such as 3D Laser Scanners, parametric and georeferenced, enabled a holistic, synoptic and comparative reading of the structures, recording the distinctive features, building techniques, materials, alignments, range of thicknesses and losses of continuity in the walls, all of which are necessary for a correct identification of the construction phases. In addition, the data arising from the study and three-dimensional survey of some subterranean tunnels, entirely excavated in the rock in the area of the moats surrounding the Aragonese castle, have also enriched the framework of knowledge regarding specific military and defensive dynamics.

Abstract:
Abstract The research work was carried out for sub-seismic transverse faults & fractures corridor identification, its characteristics and impact on wells placement & address failure reasons of 02 dry wells. On 3D-Seismic data, a structural model was developed and converted to a Geomechanical model after incorporating the carbonates rock geo-mechanical properties. Through forward modeling, the valid Geomechanical model was exercised by Elastic Dislocation (ED) theory (Solutions of Okada, 1985, 1992). From mapping fault geometry and slip distribution in 2D/3D seismic-reflection datasets, the application of ED theory can forecast the distribution of displacement, strain, and stress in the rock volume near major faults. The total strain, including background or remote strain as well as strain from displacement along the fault surface, was calculated. For deformation horizons, this total strain determines stress and failure. The fracture sets were generated from failure planes in ED modeling. The majority are reverse fracture sets. The fault surfaces play a major role in the ED method for fracture analysis and consists of an array of panels, each contributing to the ED equation calculation. The main outcome is the sub-seismic faults & fractures corridor identification around larger faults. The ED model displays that the majority of predicted sub-seismic faults & fractures set orientation match to the major strike of regional fault planes, while some vary along the strike, being parallel to the main reverse fault directions (E-W or NW-SE), but oblique faults system is also existed along the central segments, agreeing with observed structure dip variations along the strike of faults. The thrusted anticlines' crestal region has more fracture densities than their flanks. Observing abrupt change of sub-seismic faults & fractures sets density & orientation in the Geomechanical model result, it was concluded that some transverse faults systems may exist sub-seismically, which is almost parallel to the compressional forces (N-S) direction and opposite to seismic scale faults trends (E-W or NW-SE) and the majority of predicated sub-seismic faults & fractures sets orientation. Secondly, in ED modeling we have noticed that well-01 (Producing) falls in high fractures density and well-02 & 03 (Dry) falls in low fractures density also having variation in fracture strike orientation, which is verified by the well's FMI results also. The well planning to drill out the max fractures sets with proper face in the carbonate reservoir is a challenging job. The Eocene carbonate reservoirs in the studied fields have low primary porosity and permeability. The productivity of these reservoirs is dependent on permeable natural sub-seismic fractures. In the case study, an integrated approach was applied in the form of Geomechanical modeling based on ED theory to provide a reliable base for future well planning and have found out the failure reason of wells.

Abstract:
Abstract The main aim of this research work was to find out the sub-seismic faults and fracture corridors and their characteristics, including density and orientation, for a potential Paleocene fractured carbonate reservoir. This work will address the sub-seismic faults and fracture sets identification and their impact on the reservoir's potential, regarding maximum hydrocarbon flow and also for well-bore stability, as well as address the reasons behind a well failure in case of fracture dependent reservoirs. A validated, balanced 3D-structural model was developed using 3Dseismic data interpretation, and it was then converted into an Elastic Dislocation (ED) model (Geomechanical Model) by adding the Geomechanical properties (Young modulus, Poison ratio, Bulk density, etc.) of the carbonate rock. ED theory was used to execute the valid Geomechanical model by forward modeling (Solutions of Okada, 1985, 1992). By mapping the fault geometry and slip distribution in 2D/3D seismic-reflection datasets, the application of the ED theory can forecast the distribution of displacement, strain, and stress in the rock volume surrounding significant deformation impact as faults. Calculations were made to determine the overall strain, which included displacement strain along the fault surface and background or regional strain. This total strain calculates and predicts stress and failure for deformation horizons. The ED model results predict the sub-seismic faults and fracture corridors and their characteristics (Density, orientation) for carbonate reservoirs. The ED model predicts that wells # 01 and 02 (Producing well) have a fall in high fracture density zone and fracture sets are striking almost NW-SE / WNW-ESE direction apart from some variation, while well#03 (Dry) has less fracture density, and its fracture set strikes in NE-SW / ENE-WSW directions. The Formation Micro image logs (FMI) of three wells correlate with the ED model fracture analysis results. The results for fracture prediction will be more accurate and reliable, if the seismic quality is excellent, best interpreted to develop a valid structural geological model (Restorable/balance) and judicious choice of mechanical properties of carbonate rocks, applying appropriate boundary conditions as per the tectonic regime. Planning a well to drill out the maximum fracture sets with the correct orientation in a carbonate reservoir is a difficult task. In the fields under study, the Paleocene carbonate reservoirs have poor primary porosity and permeability. These reservoirs’ production is reliant on naturally occurring permeability along sub-seismic faults and fractures. The ED method is an innovation in exploration to predict the occurrence of naturally fractured corridors for better well placement to get maximum hydrocarbon production. This technique of finding sweet spots on fracture carbonate is helpful in wildcat areas, where there is no sub-surface data available for analysis. Also, it helps in the evaluation of dry wells.
