All interaktion med denna sker i realtid.

Full textDue to a lot of reasons, i. E. Continuous progress of computer tools in terms of software and hardware, the development of powerful spatial data acquisition tools, the generalization of spatial data and applications for an extended use, etc. A lot of spatial applications, more and more sophisticated, are carried out either as free or commercial tools. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are proving to be major consumers of geo-referenced data. They consists in adequate, or even the most appropriate, tools for using such kind of data. Indeed, they offer various features that focus especially on the management, interrogation and representation of spatial data. The real beginning of GIS generalization was in the 1990s. But then, given the limits of computer tools, GIS were mainly interested in 2D spatial data. While at the late 1990s and during the first decade of the 21st century, GIS developers are oriented to the 3rd dimension for spatial data representation. The concept of 3D GIS then became ubiquitous and a widespread research topic around the world. As the progress of GIS is related mainly to advances in computer technology, Internet has become fastly a very promising way for the online dissemination of GIS applications. Thus, the 2D GIS are now multiple over Internet, while 3D GIS are rare. It is in this context that joins our thesis work. Indeed, the main objective is to develop a 3D GIS prototype accessible via Internet. Because GIS are multidisciplinary tools since they rely on very different concepts and technologies (data modeling, databases, development tools, 3D, etc. ), Our thesis work will focus on the basic concepts of 3D GIS, i. E. Three-dimensional spatial data modeling, spatial databases modeling (BDS, spatial data integration in the BDS), carrying out a reflection on the querying functionality of spatial data, a Web application development to access online all services offered by the GIS, etc. As for the technologies to be used for the development of GIS, our choices were oriented mainly to the free tools. The objective is to study the various technologies implemented and their combination for the establishment of a functional 3D GIS accessible over Internet

Full textInformation technology is rapidly changing and companies are amending to the inevitable changes. Recently, the traditional Internet has started to evolve into a 3D Internet, thereby challenging companies into becoming more active in virtual worlds in order to keep up with the latest technology. In this thesis, the virtual world environment is highlighted from a v-business perspective to emphasize on potential opportunities and problems businesses face when entering virtual worlds. Moreover, the future outlook for v-business in virtual worlds is discussed, based on interviews with companies that are active in virtual worlds jointly with observed phenomenon identified in the literature study. Since Second Life is one of the largest and most recognized virtual worlds up to present, having a resemblance with the real world, this virtual world has been selected to pose as an example in this thesis. Taking this into consideration, the aim of this research is to answer the following research questions:
* What kind of value has v-business added to companies operating in virtual worlds and what kind of impact has it had?
* What kind of complexities and restrictions have companies experienced with v-business in virtual worlds, and why have these occurred?
* What does the future look like for v-business in virtual worlds considering opportunities and problems related to such a business approach?
Consequently, the purpose of this thesis is to examine the future outlook for v-business in virtual worlds, by investigating what opportunities and problems companies face in such a virtual setting, along with their predictions about its future development. Based on these findings an outline of the prospects of v-business will be developed.
Given that the area of this particular study is not yet broad in terms of research, the research has been conducted through an inductive approach using a qualitative method. Seven companies have been interviewed for this research and a majority of the company respondents have been interviewed through real-time communication using Skype.
The outcome of this research implies that there is great potential for v-business in virtual worlds, hence adding additional value to companies’ positioning on a yet unique environment. A number of possibilities have been identified where communication was identified as a major opportunity. In contrast, there are also current problems where technical restraints and comprehension problems were especially emphasized. However, in spite of some problems, companies report that they are in general very positive about the future outlook for v-business in virtual worlds, which is one of the reasons as to why we conclude that there is definitely a future awaiting for doing business in virtual worlds.

Full textIn the era of high-speed Internet, and at the dawn of virtual reality, questions about the contribution and efficiency of the different distribution channels available to the consumer are even more acute. Since Kotler's seminal article on "atmospherics", researchers in marketing and psychology have focused on measuring the influences of the different components of the retail outlet environment, initially only in the form of physical stores, fur and as the development of internet, virtual stores. The explosion of hardware and software performance over the last ten years has allowed these virtual stores to offer new interfaces by offering visitors a third dimension in the visualization of the offer. The question of the effectiveness of these new tools is fully posed, especially since the Internet is increasingly used by consumers in their purchasing process. The problem of this thesis is thus to measure the potential influence of the factors of atmosphere of an online virtual store in three dimensions (3D), factors that we will call "3Dsperics", on the behavior of the visitors. Our work consists of three literature reviews (marketing, computer science and psychophysiology), an empirical study and a final experimental study. In the latter, in order to test our hypotheses, we have developed and realized a 3D store demonstrator reproducing a real store. Using this simulation we observed the routes of 44 people by assigning them a task of shopping of different manipulatable 3D products. Our experimental protocol is based on the collection of data from questionnaires to which we added measures of objective data (pathways) and physiological (mainly ocular) data obtained during the shopping of our testers. The results show that the atmospheric components of a 3D merchant web site have a direct influence on the immersion of the visitor and thus contribute positively to the construction of buying behavior, revisit intention and word of mouth

Full textThe Physical Internet paradigm was introduced few years ago to transform globally how physical objects will be handled, stored and transported as part of a sustainable logistics. One of the important characteristics of the Physical Internet is the encapsulation of goods in standardized modular containers. Although the Physical Internet rationalizes transport, it generates more frequent handling, particularly within PI-hubs, where the operations of routing, unloading and (re) loading containers require an efficient organization and management. The multiplicity and the diversity of operations (automated or not) to be implemented simultaneously can only be carried out efficiently in the case of perfect synchronization between the reality of the physical system and that of the information system. The proposals of this thesis address this problem and constitute a contribution to the concept of the Physical Internet. They aim to obtain in real time, the spatial distribution (or layout) of the PI-containers when they are stacked in a higher-level container, so called composite container. To do this, we propose to exploit the intelligence and the activeness concepts of each PI container which is equipped with wireless sensor node. Hence, the composition of a composite PI containers constitutes an adhoc network of sensor nodes. From neighborhood relationships between these nodes, we show in this thesis that it is possible to construct the spatial 3D layout of the PI-containers and control at any time and at any place the effective compliance between the real composition and the data stored in the information system

Full textIoT collection networks raise many optimization problems; in particular because the sensors have limited capacity in energy, processing and memory. In order to improve the performance of the network, we are interested in a contribution related to the optimization of the 3D indoor deployment of nodes using multi-objective mathematics models relying on hybrid meta-heuristics. Therefore, our main objective is to propose hybridizations and modifications of the optimization algorithms to achieve the appropriate 3D positioning of the nodes in the wireless sensor networks with satisfaction of a set of constraints and objectives that are often antagonistic. We propose to focus our contribution on meta-heuristics hybridized and combined with procedures to reduce dimensionality and to incorporate user preferences. These hybridization schemes are all validated by numerical tests. Then, we proposed simulations that are completed by, and confronted with experiments on real testbeds

Full textMost of WSNs use unlicensed Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) frequency band that makes interference probable phenomenon on a given channel.System throughput gets influenced by the interference as it can congest wireless medium, cause packet drops, re-transmissions, link instability, and inconsistent protocol behavior. In wireless sensor network research, simulation is one of the essential approaches to asses and evaluate system or protocol performance. The accuracy of estimated results depends on selected simulation parameters. In existing analysis on WSN, simple interference models are used in simulations. However, these interference models are not accurate enough for practical wireless sensor network applications analysis. Moreover, the rapid growth in the field of WSNs entails the need of creating new simulators that have more specific capabilities to tackle interference and multipath propagation effects.Finding a suitable simulation environment that allows researchers to verify new ideas and compare proposed future solutions is main task of this research

Full textThis work, based in a creation and research synergy, starts by seeing 3D real time (3DRT) as a research field that must be studied considering its own identity inside the concept of virtual reality. To retrace 3DRT history allows us to understand an evolution beginning with the firsts human space drawings and going to an almost perfect photorealism. From another side, we have to get interested on 3DRT knowledge sharing because it's the key for it's popularization among society. By explaining the free software movement ideals and by retracing its history, we can better understand the sense of their goals. Without being pessimists, we have to open our eyes and see a reality that drives us to consume proprietary software without really knowing why. Finally, by looking at 3DRT art issues, we can understand the split between digital and contemporary art, as well as the values questioning of a society wanting to get lost in virtual worlds hyperreality. To conclude, we will talk about the projects developed under a CIFRE contract at a professional level, and those regarding artistic work in partnership with artists, associations and for personal research

Full textThe announced revolution of Internet world has given birth to numerous Virtual Environments (VEs) in various domains such as games, entertainment, trade and communication today. Indeed, with the forthcoming advent of Web 2. 0, the representation of which would not limit itself any longer to the actual 2D interface, the use of a third dimension should allow the emergence of numerous applications with new interaction possibilities. However, despite the exentensive research work in this area, it appears that none of actual VEs is indeed scalable in size (number of users) and complexity, which precludes their use as a support of these new services. In this thesis, we suggest a solution to this problem by introducing the foundations of a truly scalable VE. After having listed the different research works related to these problems, we describe the real time simulator that we have made and that allows us to validate the various concepts proposed in this thesis. We show that our visualization client has auto-adaptation properties to the terminal capabilities and that the peer-to-peer content distribution architecture, self-scalable. This allows to distribute evenly the available bandwidth among peers and efficiently exploit contents spatiality and scalability. We conclude by simulations results that demonstrate a real improvement in visualization quality compared to the classic client-server scheme and this even in very critical conditions

Information Visualization (IV) is a discipline focused on exploring, monitoring, and discovering information, professional collaboration, and understandable data presentations. 3D IV can be used for inherently three-dimensional data or in visualizations that require understanding shapes (e.g., automotive design, molecules). In addition, interaction via input devices besides mouse and keyboard helps the investigation of new queries. Interactive 3D IV (I3DIV) can be developed with techniques and resources from Virtual Reality, which involves 3D applications with virtual environments, providing immersion, interaction, and engagement. Immersion can be provided by multi-projection systems, which use graphical clusters (GCs); interaction can make use of diversified input devices. Web browsers are interesting for VI3DI, due to ease of execution, portability and features available. The purpose of this dissertation is to, based on the understanding of the domains and tendencies present in the scientific works in which multi-projection and interaction devices are used on the web, propose, implement, apply, and evaluate a design for VI3DI applications on the web. A systematic review of the literature is conducted, revealing the lack of studies and resources on the use of both multi-projection and diversified interaction devices on the web. Thus, we propose the design of a solution for VI3DI web applications, supporting the multi-projection through master-slave and decentralized GCs, and diversified interaction devices. The design is implemented in a JavaScript framework, Livvclib, to validate it and facilitate its reuse. Livvclib is used to add support to multi-projection and interaction devices to a web application for molecular visualization. The application is evaluated in an experiment with 11 participants, a multi-projection system, and interaction devices. Results show acceptance of the performance of the proposed design, its implementation, the possibility of visualization of the molecules with the multi-projection and of the diversified interaction devices.

Full textIn this document I examine the spatial objects and development of visualization techniques and tools used in today’s web. The rapid development of information technologies and the increasing availability of broadband Internet lead to a wide usage of virtual content presentation methods. But more importantly, that these methods are realistic and more effectively translates the desired information. The first step toward reality - the transition from the current two-dimensional information to three-dimensional information. Key aspects of the study: three-dimensional object imaging, imaging operation, and uses of wide user traffic. Full textInternet-of-Things means a growing development of interconnected objects that are likely to change many services within the industry as well as for the individual. Several barriers, including the energy autonomy of objects or production processes that are economically acceptable and respectful of the planet, hamper current developments. In this context, energy recovery is a widespread theme using a wide range of sources (mechanical, thermal, electromagnetic, etc.). This thesis is oriented towards the recovery of ambient electromagnetic energy. The second characteristic point of this thesis is to focus on flexible and, if possible, recyclable substrates. The challenge is to recover energy from an extremely low ambient electromagnetic field: this concerns the antenna, which must also meet a requirement for flexibility for its future integration with a flexible and deformable object, and the electronics of energy processing. The work of this thesis conducted in three phases. In the first phase, it was the study of the antenna structures compatible with frequency and power received with the energy harvesting application and a physical realization on flexible base (paper, textile, etc.). This phase allowed presenting the different approaches to combining the RF sources. In the second phase, the study on the role of rectifying circuit in the system of recovering wireless energy was presented. Methods for extracting parameters were discussed by separating each element and its roles. Numerous measurements have been conducted to compare different models of the diode, taking into account also the actual impact of the manufacturing process and the measurement process.A third phase allows the optimization of the antenna and electronic assembly (rectenna) for various scenarios and the monitoring of variability to keep the losses of the system at minima. The production of relevant demonstrators, test and characterization were presented

Full textTraditional education have for long been remaining without major changes made to the actual system. Up until very recently, there has been reluctance towards making fundamental and dramatic changes to the system, but as societies change and develop by mirroring on past experiences, new minds and new ways of thinking emerge suggesting changes and new developments. Consequently, new educational approaches such as e-learning and virtual learning have emerged.
Lately, technology has been transforming and developing than ever before and the demand for modifying accordingly to new technology has become a prerequisite for all industries and institutions. Already with e-learning, a derived concept is worthy of notice. Authenticity, meaning validity and accuracy, has been imposed as one major issue when it comes to e-learning, and also v-learning.
The main goal of this thesis is to present answers and suggestions to the following research questions:
Ø What value does a virtual education method create for the students?
Ø What implications are there for an education through Second Life and what is the significance of such an environment?
Ø What are the main auxiliary instruments or tools that enhance authenticity and the achievement of high presence in a virtual environment?
This research adopted an inductive approach using a qualitative research. The characterizations of knowledge used were descriptive knowledge, normative knowledge, explanatory research and evaluating research for the respective research questions. As a result of collaborating with Kalmar University, Sweden’s first Second Life course “Oral Production” was observed and to intensify the results, an interview was held with the course’s lecturer. The results were thereon analyzed and scrutinized based on the Empirical Findings, Theoretical Framework – consisting of mainly pedagogical theories and of articles concerning virtual learning environments.
The conclusion of this research entails the answers for the research questions. An education via a virtual environment is a development of e-learning, which is an enhancement of a traditional physical education. All students are persuaded to be active and participate in learning, which also promotes interconnectedness between students and teacher. Students can do role-playing and do presentations without feeling embarrassed about their “real” identities being represented. Main auxiliary instruments include virtual presentation boards, audio to communicate with each other and the avatar to direct the speech. Additionally, to enhance high presence in a virtual environment, involving all students with creative exercises seems to be another means in achieving high presence in a virtual environment.

Full textMass spectrometry imaging has been shown of great interest in addressing biological questions by providing simultaneously chemical and spatial information. Particularly, TOF-SIMS is well recognized for its high spatial resolution (< 1 µm) which is essential in disclosing chemical information within a submicron area. The increasing use of TOF-SIMS in characterizing biological samples has greatly benefited from the introduction of new cluster ion sources. However, the ionization/desorption of the analytes under impacts of large clusters is still poorly understood. On the other hand, technically, current commercial TOF-SIMS instruments generally cannot provide sufficient mass resolution or mass accuracy for molecular identification, making analyses of complex biological systems especially challenging when no MS/MS fragmentation is available. Thus this thesis is aimed to get a better understanding of ion production under cluster impacts, to explore the MS/MS capability of the parallel imaging MS/MS Spectrometer (PHI nanoTOF II), as well as to apply TOF-SIMS to map important wood metabolites with high spatial resolution. In order to understand ion production under impacts of massive argon clusters, internal energy distributions of secondary ions were measured using survival yield method which involves the analyses of a series of benzylpyridinium ions. Investigation of various impacting conditions (energy, velocity, cluster size) suggested that velocity of the clusters play a major role in internal energy distribution and molecular fragmentation in the low energy per atom regime (E/n < 10 eV). The MS/MS fragmentation and parallel imaging capabilities of the newly designed PHI nanoTOF II spectrometer were evaluated by in situ MS/MS mapping of bioactive metabolites rubrynolide and rubrenolide in Amazonia wood species Sextonia rubra. Then this parallel imaging MS/MS technique was applied to perform in situ identification of related precursor metabolites in the same tree species. 2D and 3D TOF-SIMS imaging were carried out to target the plant cells that biosynthesize rubrynolide and rubrenolide. The results led to the proposal of a possible biosynthesis pathway of these two metabolites. In addition, to expand the application of TOF-SIMS imaging in wood chemistry analysis, radial distribution of wood extractives in the heartwood of European larch was also investigated

Full textAn OpenGL applications usually renders to a single frame. Multi-view or 3D displays on the other hand, needs more more images representing different viewing directions on the same scene, but modifying a large number of applications would be unsuitable and problematic. However, intercepting and modifying these calls before they reach the GPU would dramatically decrease the amount of work needed to support a large number of applications on a new type of multi-view or 3D display. This thesis describes different ways on intercepting, enqueueing and replaying these calls to support rendering form different view points. Intercepting with both an own implementation of opengl32.dll and an OpenGL driver is discussed, and enqueueing using classes, function pointers and enumeration of functions is tried. The different techniques are discussed quickly with the focus being a working implementation. This resulting in an fully blown OpenGL interceptor with the ability to enqueue and replay a frame multiple times while modifying parameters such as the projection matrix. This implementation uses an own implementation of opengl32.dll that is placed in the application directory to be loaded before the real one. Enqueueing is performed by enumerating all OpenGL calls, pushing this enumeration value and all call data to a list Replaying is done by reading the same list and calling the function pointer associated with the enumeration value with the data in the list.

Full textThis thesis presents the experimental work and the results on fracturing of rock samples and analogue materials due to internal fluid generation during chemical reaction. The first two papers concentrate on time-resolved 3D X-ray imaging experiment on organic-rich shale samples. Paper 1 describes fracture formation due to hydrocarbon generation in the shale induced by organic matter decomposition during heating. Paper 2 gives an overview of the experimental procedure and image analysis workflow, which were used to obtain results presented in the first paper. The other two papers are focused on fracturing of gelatin mixed with yeast and sugar, which generates CO2. Paper 3 describes the mechanism of fracture network formation during draining of CO2 out of a gelatine layer. Paper 4 focuses on the temporal evolution of the drainage network and the mechanism of fracture opening and closing. The last paper presents a study in which X-ray microtomography was used to characterize porosity distribution in weathered andesite samples. The scientific methods developed in this project have potential application in studying dehydration of sediments, formation of mud volcanoes, methane hydrate exploration and assessment, geological sequestration of carbon dioxide CO2 and hydraulic fracturing of unconventional reservoirs

Full textThe phenomenon of Suffusion corresponds to the migration of fine eroded particles in a porous medium under the action of an internal water flow. This mechanism could be the main origin of damage in embankments and earth dams. Many experimental studies have been done to analyse the suffusion but actually understanding this phenomenon appears as a major scientific challenge. On the other hand, numerically, only a few studies were found which associate the mechanisms of detachment, transport and deposition of eroded particles.Based on the Darcy’s law model, the erosion model of Papamichos et al (2001) modified by Bendahmane (2005) and the fluid viscosity evolution law (Einstein relation), we developed a new hydro-mechanical approach of suffusion. The numerical solution of the problem is carried out by using a finite element method. Two aspects are presented: first, the general framework of the proposed model (implemented in 2D) with a parametric study and then the validation of the numerical model realized with a 3D study of the geometric model of the experimental study of Cross Erosion Test (CET). This model describes the three phenomena of suffusion: erosion, transport and deposition of eroded particles in a saturated soil.Furthermore, the numerical modeling of coupled phenomena of internal erosion is performed using the commercial software "Comsol Multiphysics-3.4b". However, to validate the model, experimental results on two types of soil: sandy gravel soil (S3) and the silt of Isère (S4 and S4-a) are used. These results are found in the PhD thesis of Nguyen(2013) who has developed a new apparatus called Cross Erosion Test (CET).Moreover, to discuss the transient and dynamic aspects of the phenomenon, the evaluation of the mass conservation with different figures of flow velocity, hydraulic gradient, hydraulic head, porosity and permeability distribution, concentration distribution, and of outgoing eroded particles, are measured over time and compared with experimental results

Full textThis work aims to describe and quantify the failure mechanisms of 3D woven composites underquasi-static tensile loading and to implement an adapted and robust numerical simulationmethod, that can be applied in industry. To this end, an experimental study was carried out toquantify the propagation of cracks in these materials. Thus, a crack propagation scenario wasestablished, thanks to the multi-instrumentation used during the tests. The experimental campaignwas carried out on specimens of various geometries and sizes and highlighted significantvariations in the fracture toughness with the test conditions. A modelisation framework introducinginternal lengths was then presented and adapted to 3D woven composites. This frameworkis supported by the identification of the failure mechanisms subsequent to the analysis of thecrack profile. The introduced lengths were thus related to the weaving parameters. A method foridentifying the parameters was proposed and the consequences of this behaviour on the designof the composite parts discussed. Finally, these results were transferred to robust numerical simulations.Regularisation methods of continuous damage models were presented and evaluatedin terms of their ability to ensure, on the one hand, the robustness of the results and, on theother hand, the correct transcription of experimental size effects. Taking into account these numericaland physical considerations led us to propose a Non-Local damage model. A method foridentifying the parameters and the internal length on experimental data was proposed

Full textFollowing the incorporation of radionuclides in the body, quantitative imaging in nuclear medicine and in vivo spectrometry measurements are used to quantify the retained activity. The calibration of these in vivo systems can be improved to take account of individual variability. To optimize the measurements of the activity retained, innovative calibration phantoms were created and manufactured by 3D printing. 3D computer graphics were used for the design, coupled with an engineering work allowing the inclusion of radionuclides and the fit to users’ needs. A set of age-specific thyroid phantoms has been developed and used to improve the thyroid in vivo measurement of children. Following a systematic study, the calibration coefficients for IRSN emergency and routine installations were determined for adults and 5, 10 and 15 year old children. A pathological thyroid phantom has been developed in addition to the set of thyroid phantoms dedicated to the emergency to improve the thyroid uptake measurement in nuclear medicine. A multicentre study was carried out to optimize the calibration so that treatment of thyroid benign diseases moves towards a better personalization. For lung in vivo measurement, a set of breast phantoms has been developed to improve the monitoring of female workers. Finally, this research work has allowed developing several phantoms adapted to the needs and their usefulness was proven for the quantification of the activity in internal dosimetry
