Abstract:
Mobile applications should work regardless of which type of wireless interface is used, and should be able to conceal unstable connections from the user to improve user experience. Therefore, network testing is important when developing mobile applications, but it is a challenge to reproduce network conditions when using real cellular networks since the test engineer has no control over the quality of the cellular network. Existing software tools can restrict bandwidth and add latency to the connection, but these tools do not accurately emulate cellular networks. This thesis proposes a system

The key idea of the new, shared high-capacity channel HSDPA, is to adapt the transmission rate to fast variations in the current radio conditions, thus enabling download peak data rates much higher than what WCDMA can offer today. This has induced a need for data that traverses the mobile network to be intermediately buffered in the Radio Base Station, RBS. A scheduling algorithm then basically selects the user with the most beneficial instantaneous radio conditions for access to the high-speed channel and transmission of its data over the air interface.

The purpose of this thesis is

As a license-exempt technology, Ultra Wideband (UWB) can be used for numerous commercial and military applications, including ranging, sensing, low-range networking and multimedia consumer products. In the networking and consumer fields, the technology is envisioned to reach the mass market, with a very high density of UWB devices per home and office. The technology is based on the concept of transmitting a signal with very low power spectral density (PSD), while occupying a very wide bandwidth. To improve the downlink capacity for packet data services a new concept is included in evolved 3G networks. The concept is called High Speed Data Packet Access, HSDPA, and provides peak bit rates of 14 Mbps. These new services, however, will require higher Quality of Service (QoS) constraints on the network mainly regarding delay, delay variation and packet loss. Additionally, the overall traffic profile in both the air interface and inside the network will be rather different than used to be in today's mobile networks.
