Abstract:
A wide variety of polyphenolic compounds (i.e., 4-methylcoumarins, xanthones, pyrazoles, and pyrazolylacrylonitriles) have been examined for their antioxidant effect on NADPH-catalyzed liver-microsomal lipid peroxidation with a view to establishing their structure–activity relationship. Dihydroxy-/diacetoxy-4-methylcoumarin derivatives have been shown to be radical scavengers. The effect of nine different xanthones has been examined on the modulation of cytokine-induced expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in human endothelial cells. 1,4-Dihydroxyxanthone showed enhanced an

We hereby report a simple and efficient method for the preparation of 4-methylcoumarins series, including Coumarin 120 (7-amino-4-methylcoumarin) from phenols (or naphthols) and ethyl acetoacetate in the presence of 3 mol% InCl3. Coumarins were obtained in good yields (52–92%) through Pechmann condensation, under a rapid and environmentally friendly protocol using a high-speed ball mill mixer at room temperature, with short reaction times, under solvent-free conditions.

Vitiligo is a skin condition characterized by the loss of pigment, resulting in white patches on various parts of the body. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells that are responsible for producing skin pigment, are destroyed or stop functioning. This study aimed to investigate the melanogenic potential of various 4-methylcoumarin (4MC) derivatives, including 6-methoxy-4-methylcoumarin (6M-4MC), 7-methoxy-4-methylcoumarin (7M-4MC), 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin (7A-4MC), 6,7-dihydroxy-4-methylcoumarin (6,7DH-4MC), 7,8-dihydroxy-4-methylcoumarin (7,8DH-4MC), and 6,7-dimethoxy-4-methylcoumarin (6,7DM-

AbstractNineteen derivatives of coumarin were tested on the scavenging of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, hydroxyl and superoxide anion radicals. It was found that antioxidant activity exhibits only such coumarins that contain hydroxyl groups. The derivatives without hydroxyl group showed very low antioxidant effectiveness or they were ineffective. On the other hand, the greatest antioxidant effectiveness was exhibited by coumarin derivatives that contained hydroxyl groups in 6 or 8 position, whereas the effectiveness of derivatives with one hydroxyl group in 4, 5 or 7 position was very low. We investigated the effects of four coumarin derivatives, namely, 6-methylcoumarin, 7-methylcoumarin, 4-hydroxy-6-methylcoumarin, and 4-hydroxy-7-methylcoumarin, which have similar structures on melanogenesis in a murine melanoma cell line from a C57BL/6J mouse called B16F10. Our results showed that only 6-methylcoumarin significantly increased the melanin synthesis in a concentration-dependent manner. In addition, the tyrosinase, TRP-1, TRP-2, and MITF protein levels were found to significantly increase in response to 6-methylcoumarin in a concentration-dependent manner. To elucidate the mole

A series of spiropyranone 3-aryl-4-methylcoumarin derivatives have been synthesized from monospiro-2-hydroxy acetophenone in a novel and efficient green method using imidazolyl intermediates and inorganic base. Imidazolyl intermediates were in turn generated by grinding the respective phenylacetic acid along with carbonyldiimidazole (CDI). Similarly, monospiro-2-hydroxy acetophenone derivatives were prepared selectively by avoiding formation of bis derivatives following literature procedure.
