At an ergonomically optimized VDU-workstation, a group of 10 test subjects (Ss) carried out a typing task both at the test keyboard and a reference computer keyboard. The participants' personal subjective assessments concerning the working conditions with the two keyboards and the layout of the ergonomic model were recorded via specially designed questionnaires. These were given prior to, and after, the working tests and, therefore, reflected ratings without and with working experience. The posture of the hand, the lower and the upper arm, and the shoulder during text input were evaluated quite differently as a consequence of using the two keyboards. The working posture associated with the conventional keyboard was never assessed positively. The ratings always reached positive values when operating the ergonomic model. The handling of the keyboard and the overall impression were also in favor of the test keyboard as a result of the working tests. Comfort and effort while typing at the keyboards also differed substantially and were in favor of the test keyboard. The same was true for altogether 10 items of the questionnaire, aiming at evaluation of details of the ergonomic keyboard and its overall appearance.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo mensurar o nível de letramento funcional em saúde e o nível de conhecimento sobre sífilis em um grupo de gestantes. Foi utilizado questionário sociodemográfico, a versão brasileira do B-THOFLA (Brief Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults) para mensurar o letramento funcional em saúde e questionário com perguntas básicas sobre sífilis. Obteve-se como resultado: maior parte do grupo tendo um perfil jovem e possuindo até 25 anos, tendo alto índice da não utilização de preservativos, um bom letramento funcional em saúde e um baixo nível de conhecimento sobre sífilis. Se caracterizando como um grupo altamente vulnerável a infecções sexualmente transmissíveis, incluindo a sífilis. Palavras-chaves:;;.

One of the most basic ways to deal with AIDS is to raise public awareness about the nature of the disease and ways of transmission and prevention. This research aimed to investigate knowledge, attitude and practice of nursing and midwifery students of Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences about AIDS. The population of this descriptive-analytical study was all nursing and midwifery students of Yazd University of Medical Sciences. A questionnaire was used to collect data. Finally, the required analyzes were performed using SPSS software version 22. A significant relationship was found between the degree and age. The average level of attitude of women was lower than that of men, so women have a higher and better attitude than men. There was a significant relationship between other variables of marital status, field of study, degree, residence status and attitude level. Also, there was a significant relationship between age and attitude level. Based on the obtained results, in general, the knowledge, practice and attitude of nursing and midwifery students are at a moderate level. More careful planning is needed to prevent and raise students' awareness, especially as medical students are exposed to patients with AIDS.

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the sources and causes of interruptions during the medication administration process performed by a nursing team and measure its frequency, duration and impact on the team’s workload. Métodos: This is an observational study that timed 121 medication rounds (preparation, administration and documentation) performed by 15 nurses and nine nursing technicians in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the countryside of the state of São Paulo. Resultados: 63 (52.1%) interruptions were observed. In each round, the number of interruptions that happened ranged from 1-7, for 127 in total; these occurred mainly during the preparation phase, 97 (76.4%). The main interruption sources were: nursing staff – 48 (37.8%) − and self-interruptions – 29 (22.8%). The main causes were: information exchanges – 54 (42.5%) − and parallel conversations – 28 (22%). The increase in the mean time ranged from 53.7 to 64.3% (preparation) and from 18.3 to 19.2% (administration) – p≤0.05. Conclusão: Interruptions in the medication process are frequent, interfere in the workload of the nursing team and may reflect on the safety of care.

Objetivos: identificar o perfil socioeconômico das crianças menores de um ano internadas em hospital público no interior do Maranhão e de suas mães; conhecer a alimentação complementar praticada por elas e o histórico de aleitamento materno das mesmas. Método: Pesquisa descritiva, transversal, quantitativa, realizada entre fevereiro e setembro de 2015. Dados coletados através de formulários aplicados às mães, sendo que a amostra compreendeu 174 sujeitos. Resultados: Eram do sexo masculino 62,7% das crianças, 42,5% tinham de 1 a 4 meses, 55,7% foram internadas com problemas respiratórios, suas mães eram donas de casa com idade entre 15 e 35 anos. Os dados mostram que as crianças receberam líquidos, leite artificial e alimentos precocemente, e apenas 20,1% praticaram ao aleitamento materno exclusivo até o sexto mês. Conclusão: As crianças menores de um ano internadas apresentam padrão alimentar inadequado. Portanto, são necessárias ações que promovam a prática da alimentação saudável.
Introducción: La fuente de alimentación es un factor importante para asegurar el correcto crecimiento y desarrollo de un niño. Objetivo: Identificar el perfil socioeconómico de los niños menores de un año ingresados en hospital público en interior de Maranhão y de sus madres; conocer la alimentación complementaria practicada por ellas y el histórico de amamantamiento materno. Método: Investigación descriptiva, transversal de naturaleza cuantitativa, realizada entre febrero y septiembre de 2015. Datos recolectados en formularios aplicados a las madres de los niños, siendo la muestra de 174 sujetos. Resultados: Eran del sexo masculino 62,7% de los niños, 42,5% tenían de 1 a 4 meses, 55,7% fueron ingresados con problemas respiratorios, sus madres eran amas de casa con edad entre 15 y 35 años. Los datos muestran que los niños recibieron líquidos, leche artificial y alimentos precozmente, y sólo 20,1% practicaron al amamantamiento materno exclusivo hasta el sexto mes. Conclusión: Los niños menores de un año ingresados presentaron tipo alimentación inadecuado. Por lo tanto, son necesarias acciones que promuevan la práctica de la alimentación saludable. Introduction: Food is an important factor to ensuring the existence, growth and development of a child. Objectives: to identify the socioeconomic profile of children under one year of age hospitalized in a public hospital in the country side of Maranhão and of their mothers; to know the complementary feeding given tby mothers and their history of breastfeeding. Method: Descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative research conducted between February and September 2015. Data were collected through forms applied to mothers, and the sample comprised 174 individuals. Conclusion: The children under one year of age have an inadequate eating pattern. Therefore, actions that promote the practice of healthy feeding are necessary.

The stroke is characterized by multivarious symptoms, causing a number of patients 'problems which require nursing interventions as dependent (i.e. carried out according to a doctor order and independent (carried out independently). Their complete qualitative performance is one of the conditions for the subsequent successful rehabilitation. The aim of the study was the determination of the amount of nursing interventions in stroke patients on the base of established nursing diagnoses (patient problems). This study was carried out on the basis of a specially developed Card of the study. There was performed an investigation of the character ofproblems and the rate of various nursing interventions in patients treated in a specialized department for stroke patients (the sample size - 50 persons.). The study showed that the main types of independent nursing interventions were: interviews with patients and their relatives about the disease, its course and outcome (frequency of the performance - 97.5% in the first day of hospitalization); assisting in the implementation ofpersonal hygiene (90.0%); training of relatives and patients in care and self-care techniques, elements of massage and self-massage, training in the use of bandages and compression hosiery (87.5% and 85.0%); early verticalization (60.0%), changing diapers (52.5%), frequent changes in body position ofpatients (47.5%), respiratory gymnastics classes (45.0%); the using of anti-decubitus mattresses (35.0%); help with feeding (42.5%). In this, the regulation of nursing auxiliary employment (including a clear classifier of services, their documentation, the existence of standards, the ability to assess the quality and so on) is practically absent. The establishment of appropriate regulations will contribute to the objectification of the activities of specialists in nursing care, to the assurance of the consistency in their work at all stages of the rehabilitation of patients.

Introducción: La importancia de conocer el grado de satisfacción que tienen los estudiantes de enfermería con el uso de la simulación clínica como estrategia didáctica, radica en que permite establecer una diferenciación entre los elementos exitosos de los que no lo son; con el fin de mejorar estos últimos para enriquecer la experiencia educativa de los estudiantes. Objetivo: determinar la satisfacción y calidad que perciben los estudiantes de enfermería de la Universidad de Cundinamarca frente al uso de la simulación clínica como estrategia didáctica. Métodos: Es una investigación cuantitativa, descriptiva y transversal. Muestra de 40 estudiantes. Se aplicó un instrumento con 15 ítems con una validación de instrumento de Alfa de Cronbach 0,95. Resultados: se obtuvieron que las variables que los estudiantes identificaron con menor grado de calidad y satisfacción de la simulación clínica en un 52,5% fueron las relacionas con escenarios realistas, 42,5% con la duración del caso clínico era adecuado, y 37,5% en que la experiencia con el simulador aumenta su seguridad y confianza. Por lo contrario, las de mayor grado de satisfacción identificados por el 82,5 % de los estudiantes fueron que la simulación les ayudada a integrar la teoría y la práctica además fomenta la comunicación. Conclusión: la simulación clínica favorece el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de futuros profesionales de enfermería, convirtiéndose en una estrategia didáctica útil e innovadora, siempre y cuando se aproxime a la realidad. ABSTRACT Introduction: The importance of knowing the degree of satisfaction that nursing students have with the use of clinical simulation as a didactic strategy lies in the fact that it allows establishing a differentiation between successful elements and those that are not; in order to improve the latter to enrich the educational experience of students. Objective: to determine the satisfaction and quality perceived by nursing students at the University of Cundinamarca regarding the use of clinical simulation as a teaching strategy. Methods: It is a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional research. Sample of 40 students. An instrument with 15 items was applied with an instrument validation of Cronbach's Alpha 0.95. Results: it was obtained that the variables that the students identified with a lower degree of quality and satisfaction of the clinical simulation in 52.5% were those related to realistic scenarios, 42.5% with the duration of the clinical case was adequate, and 37 .5% that the experience with the simulator increases their security and confidence. On the contrary, the ones with the highest degree of satisfaction identified by 82.5% of the students were that the simulation helped them to integrate theory and practice, and also fosters communication. Conclusion: clinical simulation favors the teaching-learning process of future nursing professionals, becoming a useful and innovative teaching strategy, as long as it is close to reality. Background: In Turkey, which is a secular, democratic nation with a majority Muslim population, euthanasia is illegal and regarded as murder. Nurses and students can be faced with ethical dilemmas and a lack of a legal basis, with a conflict of religious beliefs and social and cultural values concerning euthanasia. The aim of this study was to investigate undergraduate nursing students' attitudes towards euthanasia. Method: The study, which had a descriptive design, was conducted with 600 students. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year nursing students at a school of nursing were contacted in May 2009, and 383 students (63.8% of the study population of a total of 600 students) gave informed consent. Two tools were used in accordance with questionnaire preparation rules. Results: The majority of students were female and single (96.9%), and their mean age was 21.3 ± 1.5 years. A majority (78.9%) stated they had received no training course/education on the concept of euthanasia. Nearly one-third (32.4%) of the students were against euthanasia; 14.3% of the students in the study agreed that if their relatives had an irreversible, lethal condition, passive euthanasia could be performed. In addition, 24.8% of the students agreed that if they themselves had an irreversible, lethal condition, passive euthanasia could be performed. Less than half (42.5%) of the students thought that discussions about euthanasia could be useful. There was a significant relation between the study year and being against euthanasia ( p < 0.05), the idea that euthanasia could be abused ( p < 0.05), and the idea that euthanasia was unethical ( p < 0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that the lack of legal regulations, ethical considerations, religious beliefs, and work experience with dying patients affect nursing students' attitudes towards euthanasia.

AbstractObjective:To describe a nosocomial norovirus outbreak, its management, and its financial impact on hospital resources.Design:A matched case-control study and microbiological investigation.Methods:We compared 16 patients with norovirus infection with control-patients matched by age, gender, disease category, and length of stay. Bed occupancy-days during the peak incidence period of the outbreak were compared with the corresponding periods in 2001 and 2002. Expenses due to increased workload were calculated based on a measuring system that records time spent for nursing care per patient per day.Results:The attack rates were 13.9% among patients and 29.5% among healthcare workers. The median number of occupied beds was significantly lower due to bed closure during the peak incidence in 2003 (29) compared with the median number of occupied beds in 2001 and 2002 combined (42.5). Based on this difference and a daily charge of $562.50 per patient, we calculated a revenue loss of S37.968. Additional expenses totaled $10,300 for increased nursing care. Extra costs for microbiological diagnosis totaled $2,707. Lost productivity costs due to healthcare workers on sick leave totaled $12,807. The expenses for work by the infection control team totaled $1,408. The financial impact of this outbreak on hospital resources comprising loss of revenue and extra costs for microbiological diagnosis but without lost productivity costs, increased nursing care, and expenses for the infection control team totaled $40,675.Conclusions:Nosocomial norovirus outbreaks result in significant loss of revenue and increased use of resources. Bed closures had a greater impact on hospital resources than increased need for nursing care.

The purpose of this study was describing suitability of bathroom facilities ergonomic according physiological and elderly anthropometric factors in the Nursing Home. This study was conducted with cross-sectional design with descriptive analysis approach. Observations and measurements were taken at the place and variables were personal hygiene facilities, physiological, and elderly anthropometric. Data that used were primary data based on observations and interviews and secondary data drawn from the place. The result showed that elderly bathroom ergonomic design were height of closet 42,5 ±2,609 cm; height of bathing tub 68,65±6,492 cm; height of water cock 90,09±6,067 cm; volume of water dipper1000 ml; height of hand rail 80,09±6,067 cm; diameter of handful 4,6±0,2 cm at persentile5th; slope of floor ≥ 40 with rough floor texture; lenght of doorleaf with handle 16 cm; lighting during the day and the night for more than 100 lux. The conclusion was that not all bathroom facilities at nursing home eligible for elderly. Advice that can be given were the bathroom need adjustment size with ergonomic values obtained and necessary uniformity in design was not only space but also uniformity in size according to the physiological and elderly anthropometric who can access to bathroom independently. Introduction: Some of the main nursing problems that arise in patients with chronic kidney failure undergoing hemodialysis are problems with excess fluid volume.The aim of this study was to describe increased fluid intake in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis at Ulin General Hospital of Banjarmasin.Methods: This was a descriptive cross sectional study. 80 respondents were taken using consecutive sampling. The instruments used in this study were questionnaire of demographic, knowledge, attitude, family support, involvement of health workers and Inter-Dialytic Weight Gain (IDWG) calculation sheets.Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents were women (53.8%), the education of respondents was high school (28.8%), the average age of respondents was 48.19 years old, most respondents had been undergoing hemodialysis for less than 12 months (57.5%), the frequency of hemodialysis was 2 times each week (93.8%), the level of knowledge was good (42.5%) and moderate (42.5%), the family support was good (86.3%), the attitude was positive (55%), the involvement of health workers was good (60%), and the majority of respondents had moderate IDWG criteria (47.5%).Conclusion: Almost half of patients with chronic kidney disease who were undergoing hemodialysis at Ulin General Hospital of Banjarmasin had moderate IDWG. Further study is needed to investigate related factors of excessive fluid intake in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Background: The study of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) in the management of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has provided conflicting results in terms of their effect on mortality. Objectives: The main purpose of this study was to evaluate mortality in ARDS patients who underwent NMBA. Methods: A retrospective secondary analysis of 4200 patients with ARDS was collected from two academic medical centers, Tehran, Iran. This study was performed to assess the impact of NMBAs use in ARDS patients with different subgroups including mild and moderate-to-severe ARDS, age more and less than 65 years, having medical turnover vs. not-having, and high acute nursing care vs. moderate to low nursing care. Results: Intensive care unit (ICU) mortality has occurred in 1169 (27.8%) participants. The mortality rate was 28.6% and 27.5% in patients with mild and moderate-to-severe ARDS, respectively. In the subjects without medical turnover, the moderate dose of NMBAs significantly reduces the mortality of patients (P=0.044). In patients who need high acute nursing care, increasing the NMBAs dose significantly reduces patients’ mortality (P=0.010). In addition, increasing the NMBAs doses significantly reduces ICU length of stay (LOS). Conclusion: This study provides evidence that the administration of different doses of NMBAs had no effect on patients’ mortality with mild or moderate-to-severe ARDS. However, higher doses of NMBAs than low doses increased the risk of mortality in patients over 80 years and can reduce the risk of death in patients less than 55 years.

Abstract In 2010 the Swedish government made a large investment to improve the quality of care for the “frailest older adults” but there have been few follow-ups of the care of this group. The aim of this study is to therefore describe use of care over the time in 2010-2014. Methods: In 2014, 9 National Quality Registries, 3 Care Registries (drug-, patient and death-registers) and the registry for care and social services for older persons (SOL) were individually matched to an older population in the Swedish Twin Registry (n≈45000). Identification of the “frailest older adults” was achieved via SOL and the Patient Registry. Results: 280 persons were identified as “frailest” in 2010 these were followed over time. About two thirds (60,7%) were women, mean age: 81.2±7.7, about one third (35%) lived in a nursing home, one third (34%) had more than three hospitals stays, almost three quarters (72.5%) had more than 19 hospital days and almost one third (28%) had more than seven outpatient care visits. By the end of 2012, 119 persons (42.5%) were deceased. Among those alive (n=161) 42 persons did not receive any inpatient care between 2010-2012, but more than 85% received outpatient care and 44.1% were living in nursing homes. In 2014, 90 persons (32.1%) were still alive and half of them lived in a nursing home. In conclusion, over time the use of care as well as the risk of mortality was high confirming the need of further improvement of the care for these persons.

Abstract Objectives Older people are recommended to take oral vitamin D supplements, but the main source of vitamin D is sunlight. Our aim was to explore whether active encouragement to spend time outdoors could increase the levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and increase the mental well-being of nursing home residents. Design A cluster randomized intervention trial. Setting Nursing homes in southern Sweden. Participants In total 40 people >65 years. Intervention The intervention group was encouraged to go outside for 20–30 minutes between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day for two months during the summer of 2018. Measurements We analyzed serum 25(OH)D before and after the summer. Data from SF-36 questionnaires measuring vitality and mental health were used for the analyses. Results In the intervention group, the baseline median (interquartile range (IQR)) of serum 25(OH)D was 42.5 (23.0) nmol/l and in the control group it was 52.0 (36.0) nmol/l. In the intervention group, the 25(OH)D levels increased significantly during the summer (p=0.011). In the control group, there was no significant change. The intervention group reported better self-perceived mental health after the summer compared to before the summer (p=0.015). In the control group, there was no difference in mental health. Conclusion Active encouragement to spend time outdoors during summertime improved the levels of serum 25(OH)D and self-perceived mental health significantly in older people in nursing homes and could complement or replace oral vitamin D supplementation in the summer.

Background Mobile technologies are being increasingly developed to support the practice of medicine, nursing, and public health, including HIV testing and prevention. Chatbots using artificial intelligence (AI) are novel mobile health strategies that can promote HIV testing and prevention among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Malaysia, a hard-to-reach population at elevated risk of HIV, yet little is known about the features that are important to this key population. Objective The aim of this study was to identify the barriers to and facilitators of Malaysian MSM’s acceptance of an AI chatbot designed to assist in HIV testing and prevention in relation to its perceived benefits, limitations, and preferred features among potential users. Methods We conducted 5 structured web-based focus group interviews with 31 MSM in Malaysia between July 2021 and September 2021. The interviews were first recorded, transcribed, coded, and thematically analyzed using NVivo (version 9; QSR International). Subsequently, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology was used to guide data analysis to map emerging themes related to the barriers to and facilitators of chatbot acceptance onto its 4 domains: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, and social influence. Results Multiple barriers and facilitators influencing MSM’s acceptance of an AI chatbot were identified for each domain. Performance expectancy (ie, the perceived usefulness of the AI chatbot) was influenced by MSM’s concerns about the AI chatbot’s ability to deliver accurate information, its effectiveness in information dissemination and problem-solving, and its ability to provide emotional support and raise health awareness. Convenience, cost, and technical errors influenced the AI chatbot’s effort expectancy (ie, the perceived ease of use). Efficient linkage to health care professionals and HIV self-testing was reported as a facilitating condition of MSM’s receptiveness to using an AI chatbot to access HIV testing. Participants stated that social influence (ie, sociopolitical climate) factors influencing the acceptance of mobile technology that addressed HIV in Malaysia included privacy concerns, pervasive stigma against homosexuality, and the criminalization of same-sex sexual behaviors. Key design strategies that could enhance MSM’s acceptance of an HIV prevention AI chatbot included an anonymous user setting; embedding the chatbot in MSM-friendly web-based platforms; and providing user-guiding questions and options related to HIV testing, prevention, and treatment. Conclusions This study provides important insights into key features and potential implementation strategies central to designing an AI chatbot as a culturally sensitive digital health tool to prevent stigmatized health conditions in vulnerable and systematically marginalized populations. Such features not only are crucial to designing effective user-centered and culturally situated mobile health interventions for MSM in Malaysia but also illuminate the importance of incorporating social stigma considerations into health technology implementation strategies.

Introduction. Proper hand hygiene is the main measure in the prevention and control of infection associated with healthcare. It describes how the pandemic period of 2020 has influenced the evolution of the degree of compliance with hand hygiene practices in health professionals at the Hospital Universitario Insular de Gran Canaria with respect to previous years. Methods. Descriptive cross-sectional study of direct observation on compliance with the five moments of hand hygiene in the 2018-2020 period. Adherence is described with the frequency distribution of the different moments in which it was indicated. Results. Total adherence has increased from 42.5% in 2018, to 47.6% in 2019, and 59.2% in 2020 (p <0.05). Total adherence was greater in the moments after contact with the patient (67%) than in the moments before contact (48%). The area with the highest adherence was dialysis (83%). There is a greater adherence in open areas than in hospitalization areas (65% vs 56%). Higher adherence was determined in physicians (73%) and nurses (74%), than in nursing assistants (50%) (p<0.05). Conclusions. In 2020 there was an increase in adherence to hand hygiene compared to previous years. A higher percentage of adherence was determined in physicians and nurses than in nursing assistants. We consider that the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has played a relevant role in this increase in adherence.

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of psychotropic use in nursing home residents, the extent to which psychotropic dosage is consistent with published guidelines, and the relationships between psychotropic class and psychiatric and behavioral disturbances. Six hundred forty-seven subjects, mean age 82.3 years, residing in 11 nursing homes in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia, were assessed using the Behavioral Pathology in Alzheimer's Disease Rating Scale (BEHAVE-AD), the Abbreviated Mental Test Scale, and the Even Briefer Assessment Scale for Depression (EBAS-DEP). Details of psychotropic prescription and diagnoses of depression, dementia, and psychosis were obtained from nursing home charts. Psychotropics were prescribed for 333 (51.5%) residents, 381 (58.9%) if “as required” (PRN) use is included. Prescription of multiple psychotropics was present in 148 (22.7%) residents. Antidepressants were prescribed for 19.8% of residents, with subtherapeutic doses less likely in residents on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. On logistic regression, the use of antidepressants was predicted by the affective disturbances subscale on the BEHAVE-AD. Only 30.4% of residents with significant depressive symptoms on the EBAS-DEP were prescribed antidepressants. Antipsychotics were prescribed for 21.3% residents at a mean dosage of 73 mg chlorpromazine equivalence. Residents on antipsychotics had significantly higher scores on the delusions, hallucinations, activity disturbance, and aggressiveness subscales of the BEHAVE-AD. On logistic regression, only the activity disturbance subscale and chart diagnoses of dementia and psychosis were significant predictors. Psychosis (58.8%) and behavioral disturbances (91.9%) were more prevalent in residents prescribed antipsychotics than in residents not prescribed antipsychotics (42.5% and 76.6%, respectively). High rates of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia remained in residents prescribed antipsychotics and high rates of depressive symptoms in residents prescribed antidepressants, suggesting a role for nonpharmacological strategies.

Background: This study analyzed the role of global self-esteem and selected sociodemographic variables in predicting life satisfaction of nursing students in Poland, Spain and Slovakia. Methods: The study subjects were full-time nursing students from three European countries. A diagnostic survey was used as a research method, while the Rosenberg self-esteem scale (SES) and the satisfaction with life scale (SWLS) were used to collect data. Results: The research was performed on a group of 1002 students. The mean age of those surveyed was 21.6 (±3.4). The results showed significant differences both in the level of the global self-esteem index (F = 40.74; p < 0.0001) and in the level of general satisfaction with life (F = 12.71; p < 0.0001). A comparison of the structure of results demonstrated that there were significantly fewer students with high self-esteem in Spain (11.06%) than in Poland (48.27%) and in Slovakia (42.05%), while more students with a high sense of life satisfaction were recorded in Spain (64.90%) than in Poland (37.87%) or in Slovakia (47.44%). A positive, statistically significant correlation was found between global self-esteem and satisfaction with life in the group of Slovak students (r = 0.37; p < 0.0001), Polish students (r = 0.31; p < 0.0001) and Spanish students (r = 0.26; p < 0.0001). Furthermore, a regression analysis proved that three variables explaining a total of 12% output variation were the predictors of life satisfaction in Polish students. The regression factor was positive (ßeta = 0.31; R2 = 0.12), which indicates a positive correlation and the largest share was attributed to global self-esteem (9%). In the group of Spanish students, global self-esteem explained 7% (ßeta = 0.27; R2 = 0.07) of the output variation and 14% in the group of Slovak students (ßeta = 0.38; R2 = 0.14). Conclusions: The global self-esteem demonstrates the predictive power of life satisfaction of nursing students, most clearly marked in the group of Slovak students. The measurement of the variables under consideration may facilitate the planning and implementation of programs aimed at increasing self-esteem among young people and promoting the well-being of nursing students.

O Ministério da Saúde tem norteado as ações de saúde no sentido de controlar e/ou melhorar a assistência. Em 1994, foi realizado, simultaneamente, estudo e pesquisa nacional para conhecer e avaliar a qualidade das ações em controle de infecção hospitalar. Os resultados apontam incidência média de infecção hospitalar 15,5% e freqüência de hospitais que executam procedimentos de risco corretamente 42,5%. O objetivo deste estudo é fazer relato da situação das comissões de controle de infecção hospitalar no contexto das políticas de saúde em Santa Catarina. O Programa de Controle de Infecção Hospitalar foi criado em 1992, tendo grande receptividade, sendo implantadas comissões em 90 hospitais, representando aumento significativo (7% em 1992, para 43%, em 1993). Existem, em todo o Estado, 177 comissões de controle de infecção hospitalar, totalizando 77%. Atualmente, são 16 hospitais acreditados em controle de infecção e 30 em preparação para avaliação da acreditação.

RESUMO Objetivo Descrever a frequência de profissionais de enfermagem de unidades hospitalares com alteração no padrão diurno de secreção de cortisol. Método Foram incluídos 56 profissionais de enfermagem randomicamente selecionados, alocados nas unidades ambulatório, clínica médica, clínica cirúrgica, centro cirúrgico, pronto socorro infantil e adulto, unidade de terapia intensiva adulto e pediátrica de um hospital universitário. Para avaliação do padrão diurno de secreção de cortisol foram coletadas amostras de saliva em dois dias úteis consecutivos de trabalho. Resultados 42,5% dos profissionais de enfermagem apresentaram padrão atípico de secreção de cortisol. Além disso, quanto maior o tempo de trabalho na profissão, maior a concentração de cortisol (r=0,346; p=0,020). Conclusão Mais de um terço da amostra de profissionais de enfermagem apresentou padrões atípicos de secreção de cortisol, sugerindo que estes profissionais podem estar expostos a uma sobrecarga não apenas mental, mas biológica, estando expostos ao risco para o adoecimento por doenças relacionadas ao estresse.

Objetivo: analisar as adaptações pós-operatórias de pessoas com estomias intestinais de eliminação com e sem complicação a partir da Escala de Adaptação a Ostomia de Eliminação. Método: estudo de abordagem quantitativa, prospectiva, com 56 pessoas com estomia em pós-operatório tardio. Utilizou-se questionário semiestruturado. Os dados foram analisados a partir de testes estatísticos não-paramétricos. Resultados: a maioria dos participantes possuía entre 54 e 69 anos (58,9%), ensino fundamental completo (41%), casados (53,6%), aposentados (66%) e colostomizados (71,4%). Do total, 48,2% apresentaram complicações relacionadas a estomia, como dermatites (19,6%). Na escala de adaptação, a média geral foi 144,7. As dimensões que apresentaram maior pontuação foram autocuidado (18,8) e autoconceito (42,5); e menor pontuação, interação sexual (15,1). O domínio suporte social/religioso mostrou-se significativamente diferente entre os grupos (p=0,031). Conclusão: Um quantitativo relevante da população possuía complicações e mostrou-se menos adaptado a estomia. Avaliação precoce pode ser uma estratégia para prevenção de complicações.

Aim: The Ostomy Life Study 2019 aimed to obtain a better understanding of the challenges faced by people with stoma. Methods: Online survey with participants from 17 countries. Findings: Of the 54 614 individuals invited to take part, 5187 responded; 62% of the respondents avoided physical and social activities because of their stoma and 37% had never consulted their stoma care nurse to have the fit of their stoma product checked. In a subgroup receiving questions on leakage (n=4209), output under the baseplate and leakage onto clothes were experienced within the previous month by 76% and 26% of respondents, respectively. Higher chance of leakage was associated with an irregular stoma shape and peristomal body profile; a stoma level at or below the skin surface; and the presence of creases, folds and other changes in the peristomal area. Conclusion: Leakage and access to a stoma care nurse to provide the necessary care and guidance remain important concerns for individuals with a stoma.

Background: To find out pattern and extent of use of OTC and other than OTC drugs among medical students, nursing and technician staff.Methods: Study began after taking permission and approval from Institutional Review Board (IRB). Medical student, nursing and technician staff of tertiary care teaching hospital was enrolled after written informed consent. Pre validated questionnaire regarding use of such use was administered to each participant.Results: A total of 200 participants responded to questionnaire, M:F ratio was 1:1.7. Majority of the participants had taken OTC drugs for cough/cold (72.6%) followed by headache/ body ache (71.1%). Paracetamol (81%) followed by Diclofenac (42.5%), ibuprofen (37.8%) were the most common drugs taken. About 85% participants had taken antimicrobial considering it as an OTC product. Most commonly used antimicrobials were metronidazole (19.4%) followed by levofloxacin (17.9%).Most common reason for self medication was the perception that the disease wasn’t serious (44.8%), favourable prior advertisement (34.3%). About 52% requested for drug by mentioning name of drug. Most (50.7%) felt that OTC drug improved their illness. 45.9% stopped when symptoms disappeared. Majority of the participants (57.2%) believed use of OTC drug is a good practice. Most of the participants (56.7%) believed they can treat symptoms with OTC drugs.64.7% participants believed use of OTC drug is beneficial for them. Most of the participants lack the knowledge for dose (73.6%) and frequency (68.2%) of drug. A substantial number of participants (58.61%) were taking drugs outside OTC list.Conclusions: Awareness and dangers of misuse of OTC medications among all the participants was less. Therefore it is suggested that proper education should be imparted regarding illness where self-administration of OTC drugs to be employed.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic relapsing illness primarily including Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis. The disease course often fluctuates over time, and requires maintenance therapy and acute interventions to target disease flares. IBD management requires a multidisciplinary approach, with care from physicians, nurses, dieticians, social workers and psychologists. Because nurses play a pivotal role in managing chronic disease, the aim of the present study was to assess and determine how many nurses work primarily with IBD patients in Canada.METHODS: A 29-question survey was developed using an Internet-based survey tool (www.surveymonkey.com) to investigate nursing demographics, IBD nursing roles and nursing services provided across Canada. Distribution included the Canadian Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology, Progress (AbbVie Corporation, USA) and BioAdvance (Janssen Inc, USA) coordinators (via e-mail), and online availability for 15 weeks.RESULTS: Of 275 survey respondents, 98.2% were female nurses, with 68.7% employed in full-time positions. Among them, 42.5% were between 51 and 60 years of age, and 32.4% were between 41 and 50 years of age. In addition, 53.8% were diploma-prepared registered nurses, 35.3% were Baccalaureate-prepared nurses and 4.4% were Masters-prepared nurses. Almost one-half (44% [n=121]) were employed in Ontario, followed by 19.6% (n=54) in Alberta and 9.1% (n=25) in British Columbia. All provinces were represented with the exception of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. Forty-three per cent (n=119) of nurses identified as working in endoscopy units. Of the 90% who responded as working with IBD patients, only 30% (n=79) had a primary role in IBD care. Among these 79 nurses with a primary role in IBD care, 79.7% worked with the adult population, 10.1% with the pediatric population, and 10.1% worked with both adult and pediatric patients. Their major service was an outpatient setting (67.1%).CONCLUSIONS: Survey results showed that only a small percentage of Canadian gastroenterology nurses provide clinical IBD care. Many have multiple roles and responsibilities, and provide a variety of services. The exact depth of care and service is unclear and further study is needed.

Methodology: A descriptive design used in the present study established was for a period from 1th \ September \ 2020 to 30th \ march \ 2021. The study was conducted on non-probability (purposive sample) of 40 nurses working at neonatal intensive care units in Al-Nasiriya city. A questionnaire format for the research purpose and composed of two part the first part including socio-demographic characteristics the second part including check list of nurses practice toward neonatal hypoglycemia. The reliability of the questionnaire was determined through a pilot study and the validity through a panel of (12) experts. The data were described statistically and analyzed through the use of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis approaches which are applied by using SPSS version 22.0.
Results: The results of the present study showed that (52.5%) of nurses at age (26-30) years. Regarding to nurses gender, all of them are females. Regarding to educational level, (42.5%) of nurses have nursing bachelor graduated. Also result about years of service of nurses, (77.5% & 100%) of nurses has (1-5) years of service in nursing and in NICU respectively. Regarding to participating in training session related to hypoglycemia in neonate, (17.5% & 2.5%) of nurses have participate in (1-2 &3-4) training session. According to the finding of the nurses' practice at the test the nurses have low level of practice toward neonatal hypoglycemia. Nurses indicated that the level mean of the score, there is low level of assessment of 40 (100%) at level (1-1.66) the mean of score and standard deviation are (1.25±0.087).
Conclusion: The study showed that low nurses’ level of practice toward neonatal hypoglycemia during study.
Recommendations: Nurses' training session on how to care for a neonate with hypoglycemia. Follow-up and evaluation of nurses' neonatal care practices in the NICU.

Background: Nurses and paramedical staff face a high risk of infection due to excessive COVID-19 exposure. In this study, SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were measured among nurses and paramedical staff, with an aim to determine the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 and the characteristics associated with it.Methods: After obtaining IEC Clearance and informed consent from the study subjects, a cross sectional study was conducted from August to September, 2020. Data was collected from 127 nurses and paramedical staff, Government general hospital, Kurnool, selected by simple random sampling, using a semi-structured questionnaire and chemiluminescence immunoassay test for which IgM antibodies cut off value was 10 AU/ml. Test results and participant characteristics were recorded and data was analysed by MS Excel 13. Results: Among the study participants, seroprevalence was found to be 2.4%. Majority were females (66.9%). Most of them were aged 20-29 (24.4%) followed by 40-49 (19.7%) and 50-59 (10.2%) years. 56.7% were working in COVID wards. 42.5% worked in 3-6 hour shifts.Conclusions: The present study did show a low prevalence of IgM among nurses and paramedical staff. This might be an indicator that the personal protection measures were effective. Further it can provide an overview of the current seroprevalence of the health care workers.

Skin diseases constitute an essential health and aesthetic problem in the elderly. The aim of the study was to evaluate the knowledge of the elderly residents of public nursing homes and participants of the University of the Third Age in Bialystok, Poland surrounding the factors influencing skin ageing, the awareness of skin conditions in agening skin, and the impact of skin ageing on the volunteers. The study was performed from April to June 2015 in Bialystok, in two groups: among 100 public nursing home residents (PNH) and 100 members of University of the Third Age (U3A), (all over 60 years old). The study made use of a diagnostic survey conducted via a questionnaire prepared by the authors. Nearly half of those surveyed (42.5%;n= 85) sunbathed in the past, while 28.0% (n= 56) of those surveyed now take part in this type of leisure activity. More than half of respondents (53.0%;n= 106) protected their skin using special protective preparations. A majority of Bialystok inhabitants surveyed (80.5%;n= 161) noticed the features of skin ageing. They reported birthmarks, fungal infections and bedsores as the main skin problems of the old age. Nearly half (40%) of respondents assessed their knowledge as average and 26.0% as poor. The study showed some statistical differences in the knowledge and awareness between the residents of public nursing homes and the students of the University of the Third Age, e.g., the use of the Internet by the U3A group for finding out information. There is a desire to receive education in the field of the agening skin conditions/diseases among the elderly because their level of knowledge is relatively poor. Education of seniors in this area can increase their awareness of the basic principles of skin care and prevention marking of skin ageing. The benefits of greater knowledge of seniors about the conditions of agening skin can help reduce the medical burden and reduce the incidence on certain skin diseases. Furthermore, there is a need for educating of the younger population on the factors of skin ageing to prevent certain skin conditions as they become older. Seniors should be professionally educated by qualified specialists; for example, dermatologists or cosmeticians, so that the information they receive is in line with evidence-based medicine.

Resultados Participaram 40 enfermeiros, 80% atuavam na área há mais de 24 meses, 42,5% eram especialistas em nefrologia. Eles indicaram 44 diagnósticos de enfermagem relevantes, os quais foram discutidos no contexto da enfermagem em hemodiálise. Conclusão Os diagnósticos identificados evidenciam as respostas humanas valorizadas pelos enfermeiros que atuam em hemodiálise.

Introduction. Appropriate infant feeding practices are critical to a child’s growth, health, and development during the first 1000 days of life. One in every six children worldwide receives a minimum acceptable diet. According to the EDHS 2016, the status of the minimum acceptable diet was 7 percent among children aged 6–23 months in Ethiopia. The study sought to ascertain the relationship between complementary feeding (CF) indicators and household food insecurity in children aged 6–23 months. Methods. A systematic sampling method was used to conduct a cross-sectional study of 536 mother-child pairs aged 6–23 months. The 24-hour dietary recall was used to collect data on CF practices using face-to-face interviews with socioeconomic and food security questionnaires. The relationship between complementary feeding indicators and household food insecurity was investigated using logistic regression analysis. The relationship between independent variables and complementary feeding indicators was determined using multivariate logistic regression. Results. Overall, a total of 67.9% of children received timely introduction of CF and Minimum Meal Frequency (MMF), Minimum Dietary Diversity (MDD), and Minimum Acceptable Diet were met by 61.7%, 42.5%, and 41.7%, respectively. Result of multivariate logistic regression showed there is significant association between household food security with MMF, MDD, and MAD [AOR: 2.02, 95% CI: (1.25–3.24); AOR: 1.55, 95% CI: (1.02–2.36); and AOR: 1.62, 9595% CI: (1.06–2.47)], respectively, while there was no association with introduction of CF [AOR = 0.87, 95% CI: (0.55–1.39)]. Conclusion. This study revealed that the rates of MMF, MDD, and MAD remained low in this study setting. Household socioeconomic status (wealth index, food security status, household income) and child age were found to be among the factors statistically significantly associated with complementary feeding practices indicators.

Leakage of stomal effluents underneath the baseplate or inappropriate removal of stoma appliances can cause peristomal skin complications (PSCs), which are known to have many negative implications for people with a stoma. While numerous studies have examined the causes of PSCs, less is known about what drives the risk of a PSC developing. To address this gap in knowledge, the largest multinational survey to date was conducted, including 4235 people with a stoma on four continents and in 13 countries. The survey revealed that, besides leakage, other factors, such as age, gender, time since surgery and type of stoma, also drive the risk of PSCs. The survey also revealed that having a PSC resulted in greater use of stoma accessories and more frequent contact with health professionals, increasing overall healthcare costs. Collectively, the survey results reveal a need for more awareness on the risk factors for PSCs, which subsequently could have a positive effect on healthcare spending.

Introduction: Breast Conserving Surgery (BCS) is oncologically safe for eligible patients with breast cancer and has enormous physical and psychological benefits. Despite this, the mastectomy rate in many centres is still very high. Nurses are frontline staff in healthcare settings and have great contact with the patients. The level of their awareness would have a great impact on patients eligible for breast conservation seeking expert opinion. This study explored the awareness, perception and acceptance of BCS among female nurses in a rural Nigeria tertiary hospital.
Methodology: A quasi-structured self-questionnaire was distributed to 235 nurses using a convenient sampling method. The responses on 219 adequately filled questionnaires were entered into an IBM SPSS Statistics Data Document (version 21.0) for analysis. Categorical variables were presented in counts and percentages. Association between the acceptance of BCS versus its awareness, equivalence to TM and years of nursing practice were tested using Chi-square probability test and a p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Result: The 219 participants had a good representation of junior and senior nurses among whom 80.4% were at least 45 years old and 82.2% were married. The nurses were mostly general nursing practitioners (76.7%) and 49.3% of the nurses had practised for a duration not less than 10 years of age. The 126 (57.5%) nurses, who described BCS as the surgical removal of a cancerous breast lump short of mastectomy, were considered to be aware of BCS irrespective of their understanding of complementary treatment modalities, eligibilities, comparative advantages to TM and certainty of its oncologic safety. The lack of ready access to radiotherapy centres (54.3%) and delay/overcrowding of these facilities (42.5%) were recognised respectively as major local challenges to BCS practices. The equivalence of BCS to TM was affirmed in 44.3% of the nurses and 35.6% had participated in managing breast cancer patients using the conservative surgical approach. 57.1% were willing to accept BCS or recommend it for an eligible friend or relative and no statistically significant association was observed among those who accepted BCS when matched with the level of awareness or the duration of nursing practice. A higher and significant level of acceptance of BCS was noted among those aware of its oncologic equivalence to TM (p-value = 0.000)
Conclusion: This study demonstrated gaps in knowledge of BCS among nurses who are stakeholders in assisting patients make the right decision. This knowledge gap in the perception of BCS will interfere with the ability of the nurse to adequately counsel patients in need of their expert opinion. The awareness of the oncologic equivalence of BCS to TM increased its acceptance significantly. An increase in public awareness and education of nurses is required to improve the acceptance rate of BCS in our practice. Caregivers should also devise effective means of communication to encourage eligible patients for breast conservation

Background: While the standard of care for suspected tracheo-innominate artery fistula (TIF) necessitates sternotomy, perioperative mortality remains high. Endovascular interventions have been attempted, but reports have been anecdotal. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the outcomes of endovascular management of TIF by pooling the existing evidence. Methods: An electronic database search of Ovid MEDLINE, Scopus, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Cochrane Controlled Trials Register was performed to identify all studies examining endovascular treatment of TIF. Patients greater than 14 years of age who underwent endovascular intervention for TIF were included. 25 studies consisting of 27 patients met the inclusion criteria. Results: 48.1% (13/27) of patients were male and median age was 39.0 [IQR 16.0, 47.5] years. Tracheostomy was present in 96.3% (26/27) of cases. Median duration from tracheostomy to TIF presentation was 2.2 months [0.5, 42.5]. On presentation, 84.6% (22/26) had tracheal hemorrhage, and 22.8% (6/27) were hemodynamically unstable. 96.3% (26/27) underwent covered stent graft placement while 1 patient (3.8%) had coil embolization. 18.5% (5/27) of patients required repeat endovascular intervention for recurrent bleeding, while 11.1% (3/27) required rescue sternotomy. Median hospital length of stay was 30 days [16.0, 46.5], and overall mortality was 29.6% (8/27) with a median follow-up time of 5 months [1.2, 11.5]. Conclusion: While uncommon, endovascular treatment of TIF may be a feasible alternative to sternotomy. The approach may be useful in those who are unable to undergo surgery or are likely to have adhesions from prior chest operations.

Purpose: To determine the relationships between hospital use of treating oncology practices and patient outcomes. Patients and Methods: Retrospective analysis of 397,646 Medicare beneficiaries who received anticancer therapy in 2012. Each beneficiary was associated with a practice; practices were ranked on the basis of risk-adjusted hospital use, that is, inpatient intensity. Outcomes included 30-day readmission, weekend admissions, intensive care unit stays in the last month of life, and hospice stay of ≥ 7 days. Outcomes were measured for each quartile of practice-level inpatient intensity. We fit multivariable logistic regression models to calculate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) for each outcome for each quartile of inpatient intensity. Results: Total 30-day readmissions were 22.8% and 31.9% (OR, 1.45; 95% CI, 1.39 to 1.50) for patients in practices with the lowest versus highest quartiles of inpatient intensity, respectively; unplanned readmissions were 19.8% and 27.1% (OR, 1.36; 95% CI, 1.31 to 1.41), respectively. The proportion of admissions that occurred on weekends was similar across quartiles. Patients of practices in the highest quartiles of inpatient intensity had higher rates of death in an ICU stay in the last month of life (25.5% versus 18.0%; OR, 1.33; 95% CI, 1.19 to 1.49) and a lower rate of hospice stay of at least 7 days (50.9% to 42.5%; OR, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.74 to 0.86). Conclusion: Medical oncology practices that seek to reduce hospitalizations should consider focusing initially on processes related to end-of-life care and care transitions.

Introduction. To describe the avoided costs and to analyze the effectiveness of intravenous antibiotic treatment in continuous perfusion in patients at Hospital at Home Units (HHU) administered using elastomeric infusion pumps (EIP) prepared in a Hospital Pharmacy Service (HPS). Materials and methods. Retrospective observational study of the number and type of EIP prepared in the HPS and of the treated patients. Study period: January 2017-December2018. Analyzed data: demographic data of patients, location of infection, responsible microorganism, medication and type of EIP, dose and duration of treatment and its effectiveness in terms of cure or non-cure or patient’s death. Economic valuation considering: costs of EIP, nursing time needed for preparation and cost of HHU care. Results. A total of 1,688 EIP to treat 102 patients resulted in 106 episodes of outpatient treatment of parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) for 1,409 days, thereby avoiding 1,409 days of hospital admission. A total of 59.8% of the patients were men and the mean age was 70.5 ± 17 years. A 31.1% and 68.9% of the cases were empirical and pathogen-directed treatments, respectively. The most used antimicrobials were piperacillin/tazobactam (42.7%), ceftazidime (24.5%), meropenem (19.8%), ceftolozane/tazobactam (2.8%), and cloxacillin (1.9%). Mean duration of treatment was 13.29 ± 8.60 days. Location of infection: respiratory (42.5%), urinary (17.9%), skin and soft tissue (12.3%), bacteraemia (11.3%), osteomyelitis (7.5%), abdominal (3.8%) and 4.7% in other locations. The cure rate was 84%. Total avoided cost: 580,788.28€ in the 24 months studied. Conclusion. This program represents very important economic savings for the health system, and the effectiveness of the antibiotic treatment has not been compromised.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the recording of clinical indication for prescribed sedative/hypnotic (SH) medications in a large, acute tertiary referral hospital. Design/methodology/approach – All hospital inpatients’ medications (n=367) were audited for prescription details regarding SH medications. Medical notes were then examined for evidence of a recorded indication for such medications. Findings – SH medications were prescribed to many hospital inpatients (42.5 per cent) during admission. An indication was documented in the nursing or medical records for 24.4 per cent of patients who were prescribed such medications. Nurses rather than by doctors prescribed most SH medications (74 vs 26 per cent, respectively, p=0.003). Some patients receiving SH medications were both over 65 and impaired in their mobility (19.2 per cent). The treatment indication was documented in 47 per cent. Practical implications – Most patients prescribed SH medications have nothing in their medical record explaining why these drugs are being used, including half of the elderly, less mobile patients. All health professionals dealing with SH medications and doctors in particular need to justify the use of such medications in the medical record. For the particularly high-risk groups where SH medications are potentially more dangerous, explicit guidance on why and how such medications are to be used must be provided by prescribers. Originality/value – For the first time, data are presented on documentation rates for clinical indication of prescribed SH medications across a large acute hospital, and highlights significant shortcomings in practice. This study should inform other organisations of the need to be mindful of facilitating greater compliance with good prescribing practice.

Electromyography enables the measurement of the intensity of muscle exertions which are demanded when working with hand-held tools and controls as well as when performing repetitive manual movements. Utilizing multi-channel recording devices, comprehensive physiological responses of working muscles can be quantified in figures and numbers, whereby more or less ergonomically designed tools lead to different physiological costs in terms of muscle strain associated with work. A computer-based system was developed for the suitable application of electromyography, a technique which requires differentiated and detailed knowledge of the possibilities and limitations as well as a substantial amount of experience. Software packages provide programs for the recording, analysis, and evaluation of myoelectric data. Knowledge about practical methods of appropriate recording and processing of myoelectric data which has been accumulated and further developed during the last decade has been fed into the program system. The same is true for a set of investigations already carried-out and published. Making use of the specifically developed and well-proven software packages which can be loaded into almost all PCs for recording, analyzing, and standardizing electromyographic data, even a user who until now is less familiar with these tasks gains access to electromyography as an efficient and important ergonomic method which is applicable with reasonable expenditure both in the laboratory and in the field.

Since Imre Bán’s paper on 16th century rhetoric and poetic handbooks from 1971 only a few scholars have made further inquiries into the oeuvre of Péter Károlyi. Following a short introduction to the scholarly works of the the author, the article focuses on meditations in 16th century Hungary. The first half the paper describes Károlyi’s preface written for Erzsébet Bocskai, and covers such themes as the concept of death, remembering and forgetting, while outlining the changing role of the author as a preacher in the text. The second half of the essay is devoted to examining the possible polemic contexts of this work, concentrating on the conflicts between the Reformed Church and Unitarianism in the 1570s.
The paper points out various characteristics of Károlyi’s text which are combined together with great success in describing the art of good death.

Sehingga perkembangan kemampuan caring mahasiswa perlu diperhatikan oleh institusi pendidikan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran kemampuan caring mahasiswa Fakultas Keperawatan Universitas Padjadjaran. Penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif ini menggunakan metode proportional stratified sampling. Total sampel terpilih sebanyak 240 mahasiswa. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah Caring Ability Inventory dan dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian di dapatkan bahwa setengah dari mahasiswa memiliki kemampuan caring pada kategori rendah (50%), kurang dari setengah mahasiswa pada kategori sedang (42,5%) dan sebagian kecil mahasiswa pada kategori tinggi (7,5%). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan caring mahasiswa sebagian besar adalah kategori rendah dan sedang. Fakultas Keperawatan Universitas Padjadjaran perlu meningkatkan perhatian terhadap perkembangan kemampuan caring mahasiswa. ABSTRACTCaring is the core of nursing values. This quantitative descriptive study used proportional stratified sampling method. In total240 students were selected as samples. Data were collected using an Indonesia version of Caring Ability Inventory and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that half of the students had low caring ability (50%), less than half students were in moderate category (42.5%) and a small percentage of students were in high category (7.5%). In conclusion, nursing students caring ability mostly were in low and moderate category. Faculty of Nursing, Padjadjaran University needs to improve attention to the development of students’ caring ability.
