Abstract:
AbstractObjectiveFe supplementation has been used to prevent anaemia in China; however, high Fe intake and body Fe stores may increase diabetes risk. The present study aimed to prospectively examine the association between Fe intake/stores and hyperglycaemia, and to assess the joint effects on anaemia.DesignWe followed 1056 healthy adults aged 20 years and older from 2002 to 2007. Body Fe stores were measured. Dietary data were collected using a 3 d food record and FFQ. Hyperglycaemia was defined as fasting plasma glucose >5·6 mmol/l.ResultsOf the participants, 28·8 % were anaemic at baseli

Prior work from ICECaP (Ravi et al, Eur Urol 2024) has shown that patients (pts) with very high-risk disease (i.e. 2 or 3 risk factors [RFs]: Gleason ≥8, PSA >20, ≥cT3 and/or cN1) have the poorest outcomes with RT+ADT for HRLPC, with 5-year metastasis-free survival (MFS) of ≤80%. We aimed to perform an IPD meta-analysis of the role of docetaxel with ADT+RT for HRLPC and specifically evaluate whether patients with very high-risk disease benefit from the add

We compared surgical care and outcomes over 4 eras in the population-based Mid-South Quality of Surgical Resection (MS-QSR) cohort, an ongoing regional surgical and pathologic quality improvement (QI) dissemination and implementation project. This 24 month study evaluated the effect of dietitian coaching combined with minimal endocrinologist follow up on the glycemic control and cardiovascular risks of diabetic participants, compared with conventional endocrinologist follow up. Participants with type 1 or type 2 diabetes were assigned to either the control group with conventional endocrinologist follow up (C; n = 50) or the dietitian-coached group (DC; n = 51) with on-site diabetes self-management education every 3 months combined with annual endocrinologist followup. The article presents the results of sonographic diagnosis of carotid atherosclerosis in 127 patients with ischemic stroke (IS) aged 38-74 year (average age 56±7 years). The comparison group (CG) consisted of 51 people with risk factors for cardiovascular diseases without a history of stroke. It has been established that arterial hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus are significantly more common among patients with IS than in patients of CG. The frequency of localization of atherosclerotic plaques on the walls of the carotid arteries was determined depending on the course of the stroke. Se

Abstract Rituximab-containing chemotherapy regimens constitute standard first-line therapy for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). Since June 2013, 190 patients ≥18 years of age with MCL in British Columbia have been treated with bendamustine and rituximab (BR). The overall response rate to BR was 88% (54% complete response). Of these, 61 of 89 patients (69%) aged ≤65 years received autologous stem cell transplantation and 141 of 190 patients (74%) from the entire cohort received maintenance rituximab.
