Abstract:
We have examined the association, dissociation, and exchange of the 5S specific transcription factor (TFIIIA) with somatic- and oocyte-type 5S DNA. The factor associates faster with somatic than with oocyte 5S DNA, and the rate of complex formation is accelerated by vector DNA. Once formed, the TFIIIA-5S DNA complex is stable for greater than 4 h in the absence of free 5S DNA, and its dissociation is identical for somatic and for oocyte 5S DNA. In the presence of free 5S DNA, the factor transfers promptly from the complex to the free 5S DNA site. Unexpectedly, the direct exchange of factor between 5S DNA sites leads to proteolysis at the C-terminal arm of TFIIIA.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present the comprehensive literature review on 5S and suggest possible gaps from the point of view of researchers and practitioners. The manuscript presents the overview of 5S implementation and highlights the achievements realized from deployment of 5S initiatives for sustainable performance of organizations. Design/methodology/approach The paper critically examines the literature on 5S, analyzes and reviews it systematically. The study highlights the critical barriers and success factors for sustainable 5S implementation in the organizations in the competitive world. Findings 5S is an outstanding Japanese philosophy for the development of any type organization all over the world. This study bring out the concept of 5S, requirements for its holistic implementation, relationship with other lean tools, benefits, success factors and obstacles in 5S implementation. The significant contributions through 5S initiatives in the organization like production, quality, safety and effective utilization of workspace for the sustained organizational improvement have also been highlighted in the study. Practical implications The literature on assortment of 5S technique has been so far very limited. The present paper reviews large number of research publications related to 5S to highlight the significance of 5S philosophy in the sustainable organizational improvement across the world. It foregrounds the approach advised by the various researchers, practitioners and appraises censoriously the reason behind the demand of 5S program in the organization. The needful steps and obstacles are also foreground for the effective implementation of 5S in the organization. Originality/value The paper presents a comprehensive review of literature publications in the area of 5S and their assortment to develop an understanding of the significance and implementation of 5S in the organizations. The paper will be helpful or useful to researchers, safety executives, development professionals and managers in the organizations.

Dados citogenéticos de Loricariidae (Siluriformes) revelam uma extensiva variação de número diploide e plasticidade cromossômica no grupo. Nestes peixes, a localização in situ de sítios de rDNA 5S em regiões co-localizadas a sítios teloméricos intersticiais (ITS) evidenciaram o envolvimento de múltiplos clusters de rDNA 5S em rearranjos cromossômicos nas subfamílias Loricariinae e Ancistrinae. Vestígios de sequências (TTAGGG)n em sítios internos podem corresponder à locais de rearranjos cromossômicos e também são considerados como pontos quentes para quebras cromossômicas, os “sítios frágeis”. Este trabalho teve como objetivo a caracterização molecular de segmentos duplicados (SD) de rDNA 5S, discutir seu envolvimento como sítio frágil, além da sua localização in situ em duas populações de Rineloricaria latirostris. Rineloricaria latirostris (rio das Pedras) apresentou 2n = 46 cromossomos e 5 pares marcados com rDNA 5S, além de um par portador de ITS/rDNA 5S co-localizado, enquanto R. latirostris (rio Piumhi) apresentou 2n = 48 cromossomos, 2 pares com sítios para rDNA 5S e ausência de ITS. Fragmentos isolados de rDNA 5S de 222 pb mostraram identidade com rDNAs 5S de outras espécies, além disso um amplificado de 702 pb apresentou inserção de um segmento do TE hAT em sua sequência, clone rDNA 5S degenerado. Ensaios de dupla-FISH evidenciaram a co-localização de rDNA 5S/rDNA 5S degenerado, rDNA 5S/hAT e ITS/rDNA 5S em R. latirostris do rio das Pedras, enquanto na outra população estudada apenas marcações de rDNA 5S foram detectadas. Segundo nossos dados, a invasão do TE hAT no rDNA 5S gerou a região de SD rDNA 5S degenerado, a qual atuou como sítio frágil para quebras cromossômicas e fusão Robertsoniana (Rb) em Rineloricaria. Assim, a evidência do SD rDNA 5S em pontos de fusão Rb em outras espécies sugerem que esta região é um sítio frágil para genomas de Loricariidae e, poderia explicar parte dos eventos Robertsonianos neste grupo de peixes.APOIO: Fundação Araucária, CNPq.

Abstract:
A novel 5S RNA-protein (RNP) complex in human and mouse cells has been analyzed using patient autoantibodies. The RNP is small (approximately 7S) and contains most of the nonribosome-associated 5S RNA molecules in HeLa cells. The 5S RNA in the particle is matured at its 3' end, consistent with the results of in vivo pulse-chase experiments which indicate that this RNP represents a later step in 5S biogenesis than a previously described 5S*/La protein complex. The protein moiety of the 5S RNP has been identified as ribosomal protein L5, which is known to be released from ribosomes in a complex with 5S after various treatments of the 60S subunit. Indirect immunofluorescence indicates that the L5/5S complex is concentrated in the nucleolus. L5 may therefore play a role in delivering 5S rRNA to the nucleolus for assembly into ribosomes.

Abstract The organization of genes for 5S rRNA in the methanogenic archaebacterium Methanococcus (M .) voltae and their nucleotide sequences have been determined. M. voltae possesses three 5S rRNA genes, one of them is organized in an rRNA transcriptional unit coding for 16S-23S-5S rRNA. The other two are associated with seven tRNA genes in a putative transcriptional unit composed of 5′-tRNAThr-tRNAPro-tRNATyr-tRNALys - 5S rRNA-tRNAAsp-tRNALys - 5S rRNA-tRNAAsp-3′. Coding regions plus spacers of the tRNALys-5S rRNA-tRNAAsp block of this gene cluster occur twice with identical sequence. The 5S rRNA from this cluster displays considerable sequence divergence to the rRNA operon-linked 5S rRNA gene. Comparison of the M. voltae 5S rRNA sequences with those from M. vannielii revealed that the operon-linked genes on one hand and the tRNA-linked 5S genes on the other share a greater sequence homology than the two types of genes within each of the two organisms. This indicates an independent evolution of the two sets of 5S rRNA genes without selective pressure from other ribosomal components or, alternatively, lateral gene transfer.

I denna studie undersöktes implementeringen av verktyget 5S på ett anonymt distributionsföretag som vi valt att benämna Distrib. Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur väl implementeringen av verktyget 5S har fungerat för att förbättra ordning och reda i företagets lagerverksamhet. Den undersökningsmetod som använts bestod av semistrukturerade intervjuer av respondenter på två av verksamhetens lager samt ledningen. I dessa intervjuer har fokus legat på hur implementeringen genomförts, åsikter om genomförandet samt resultatet av denna implementering. De teorier studien baserats på var av relevans och kunde ställas mot den empiri som samlats genom intervjuerna. Med dessa intervjuer kan vi se att ledningen och medarbetarna haft delade åsikter och uppfattningar om genomförandet samt resultatet av implementeringen. Genom dessa åsikter och uppfattningar kunde slutsatser dras om hur väl implementeringen av verktyget 5S har fungerat på Distrib.

ABB Capacitors Ludvika started their LEAN-project in november 2010, but still has not the whole factory been introduced to the LEAN-tool called 5S. 5S is only implemented on the ”easiest” work-areas. By implementing 5S, at the workingstation called inburkningen, would make the workstation and the area around it much more structured, clean and systematized. The operators are a little bit skeptical to the work that includes continuous improvement today, because they can not see any progresses. If 5S were implememted the operators would be able to avoid searching for tools because with 5S, each tool will have a specified place at the workstation. 5S would simplify the cooperation between the shifts, because 5S includes clear instructions for how the workstations will be cleaned after each shift. This report will include my recommendations, thoughts and opinions regarding however ABB Capacitors Ludvika should implement or not implement the LEAN-tool 5S. And if they decides to follow my recommendations also how they should implement it to get a successfull result.

Chez Arabidopsis thaliana, les gènes d'ADNr 5S sont retrouvés dans l'hétérochromatine péricentromérique des chromosomes 3,4 et un locus est présent sur chaque bras du chromosome 5. Dans le cadre de la cartographie à grande échelle du génome d'Arabidopsis, des YAC et des BAC ont été cartographiés pour les chromosomes 3,4 et le locus mineur du chromosome 5. Par marche sur chromosome à l'aide de YAC, nous avons cartographié des YAC pour le locus majeur du chromosome 5. Nous avons alors isolé des unités spécifiques de chaque locus mettant en évidence un polymorphisme de restrictions spécifique pour chaque chromosome. Au cours de cette étude , nous avons révélé deux types d'unités d'ADNr 5S présentant des tailles de 500 pb pour la majorité des unités et de 251 pb. L'accumulation de séquences d'unités d'ADNr 5S pour chaque a démontré qu'il existe des signatures spécifiques dans la région flanquante en aval de la région transcrite.

Elektroskandia Sverige AB är Sveriges ledande el-teknikgrossist som säljer och marknadsför system och elmaterial. Verksamhetens centrallager är placerat i Örebro där detta examensarbete utfördes i deras returavdelning.  Paket och andra föremål är placerade överallt på arbetsplatsen och detta har orsakat att arbetsytan inte används effektivt. Förväxlingar av paket förekommer och de inlånade operatörerna har svårigheter med att veta vilka rutiner de ska arbeta efter. För att undersöka detta problem valde författarna i denna undersökning att granska situationen i nuläget. Med hjälp av vetenskapliga artiklar, litteraturstudier och intervju med ett liknande företag, som har behandlat ett likadant problem, kunde ett flertal förbättringsförslag tas fram. Dessa förbättringsförslag har tagits fram med hjälp av 5S-metoden, som är en metod att skapa en välorganiserad och funktionell arbetsplats. Metoden 5S är oftast det första konkreta steget som används till att påbörja Lean och kommer vara starten för Elektroskandias fortsatta resa inom detta område.  Förbättringsförslaget är ett underlag för Elektroskandia om hur 5S-metoden ska implementeras på returavdelningen och vad som är viktigt att tänka på före utförandet. Målet med denna implementering på returavdelningen är att öka effektiviteten och spara tid. För att returavdelningens process ska bli ännu effektivare samt skapa en bättre arbetsmiljö på arbetsplatsen behöver verksamheten som fortsatt arbete reducera omställningstiden vid hantering av returpapper och åtgärda brister inom ergonomi.
Elektroskandia Sweden AB is Sweden's leading electrical engineering wholesaler that sells and markets systems and electrical materials. Operation's central warehouse is located in Orebro where the thesis was performed on their return department. Today return department is lacking orderliness, and there is no standardized work routine. This has resulted in that each of the operators working in his own way. Packages and other objects are placed everywhere on the workplace and this leads to a smaller workspace, confusion of packets and difficulties for new operators. To treat the problem, the current situation was investigated and analyzed. Then with the help of scientific articles, literature reviews and interviews with a similar company that has dealt with such a problem could a number of suggestions for improvement developed. These proposed improvements have been developed using the 5S method, which is a method for creating a well-organized and functional workplace. The method is usually the first concrete step that is used to start with Lean and will be the start of Elektroskandia's continuing journey within it. Improvement proposal provides the basis for Elektroskandia how 5S method should be implemented on the return department, and what is important to think about before beginning with the implementation. The goal with this implementation is to increase efficiency and save time. To return the department's process to become more efficient and create a better working environment in the workplace so be business as continued efforts to reduce the changeover time in the handling of waste paper and lack of ergonomics. As further work to develop the return department process to be more efficient and create a better working environment Elektroskandia needs to reduce the changeover time in the handling of return paper and also work with ergonomics in the workplace.

Då byggbranschen idag står inför stora förändringar bör arbetsplatserna bli mer effektiva. Rörelse och väntan är två stora slöserier som kostar mycket pengar för företagen. Denna rapport ska undersöka hur produktionsprocessen kan effektiviseras med hjälp av Leanverktyget 5S. Bakgrunden till problemet är tidsförluster i produktionen där företagen lägger mycket tid på onödiga slöserier såsom väntan och materialhantering. Arbetet har utförts tillsammans med NCC Constructionen där tre byggarbetsplatser i Norrköpings region har studerats. De frågor som skulle besvaras var: Var ligger de största slöserierna när 5S inte används? Hur påverkas slöserierna när 5S används? Hur kan arbetsmetoden 5S förbättras inför kommande byggen? Resultatet som kommit fram efter studien var att rörelse och väntan är de största slöserierna när 5S inte används. Vad som kunde ses på arbetsplatsen som bedrev arbete med 5S var att väntan minskade dock var rörelsen fortfarande kvar men avsevärt reducerad. Det som tydligt kan förbättras inför kommande byggen är en kombination av att utbilda yrkesarbetarna i vad 5S handlar om och hur engagemanget kan öka för att få en så effektiv arbetsplats som möjligt.

Resumo: Na busca de maior velocidade e agilidade nas organizações, para enfrentar com êxito o mercado cada vez mais competitivo, é acentuada a demanda por tecnologia de informação em rede corporativa de dados, como também de metodologias de tratamento de informações que proporcionem melhor desempenho dos recursos de informática utilizados, através de uma utilização disciplinada dos mesmos. Neste sentido, com base na experiência bem sucedida de aplicação do 5S em uma empresa de grande porte e com base nos estudos desenvolvidos acerca do 5S convencional, desenvolveuse uma proposta de metodologia para aplicação do 5S em Rede Corporativa de Dados, testou-se sua viabilidade e foram identificados os benefícios decorrentes de sua aplicação

Inom byggproduktion finns det många onödiga aktiviteter som hindrar projekt från att genomföras mer flödeseffektivt. För att undvika misshushållning med resurser behöver arbetsplatsen och den oftast medföljande kulturen, få mer ordning och reda. Ett arbetssätt för att åstadkomma just detta finns att hämta från 5S-metoden. NCC, som är ett av de ledande byggföretagen i norra Europa, har kunnat se vilka fördelar som går att hämta av 5S och har inom en av sina avdelningar, Lean Construction, arbetat fram en metodanpassning som visar på vad företaget ska arbeta med inom metoden. Problemet är dock att företaget inte har kunnat se hur de praktiskt ska kunna genomföra metodtillämpningen – Material om vad som ska göras finns, men inte hur, när eller vem som ska göra det. Examensarbetet som denna rapport redovisar, avser att ge NCC en tydligare bild av hur de praktiskt ska införa metoden inom sin produktionsverksamhet. För att göra detta har intervjuer och fältobservationer gjorts på två av företagets projekt i Umeå, med syftet att fastställa de problemområden som hindrar NCC från att arbeta flödeseffektivt. Framförallt fanns det problem med städning, materialdisposition, kommunikation och den inställning som finns till att arbeta strukturerat och ordningsamt. I analysdelen har sedan de belysta problemområdena, tillsammans med teori kring 5S-metoden, sammanställts till det lösningsförslag som visar på hur planeringsarbetet och genomförandet av metodtillämpningen kan gå till.
Within production in the building industry, there are many unnecessary activities that prevent projects from flow efficiency. To ensure resources are being used to their full capacity, there must be a better structure, both within the workplace and within the workplace culture. To achieve this you can use the 5S-method. NCC, one of the largest construction companies in northern Europe, has seen the many benefits they can gain by using the 5S-method. In one of the companies departments, Lean Construction, they have developed and adapted the method within NCC to clarify what steps the company should take to achieve a more flow efficient production. A problem is that the company has struggled to implement the method - They have information about what should be done, but not about who should do it, how, and where. This study aims to help NCC get a better picture about how they should practically adopt the method within their everyday production. To achieve this goal, interviews and field observations have been made at two of NCC:s projects in Umeå, with the purpose of defining their problem areas that prevents projects from working flow efficient. Primarily, there were problems with maintaining a clean worksite, material disposition, communication, and an attitude towards organized work. In the research episode of this report the problem areas have been analyzed together with the theories about the 5S-method, and have been compiled to illustrate a solution, showing how the planning and implementation of the 5S-method can be enacted.

Abstract:
The work purpose is to analyze the flow and implement 5S in one of the sections in the production at Gotlands Gummifabrik AB. The implementation is based on 5S theory that stands for sort, set in order, shine, standardize and sustain. A line diagram has been used to structure quantitative data in form of order logs where reportedtime is compared to planed time for an article. To identify reasons why planned time are not achieved interviews has been made with coworkers and management. The reasons has been structure in a cause-effect diagram in relation to how many who pointed out the same cause. A process flow analysis has been made together withlayout flow chart to provide a clear picture of the flow and transportation. After the implementation an evaluation discuss has been conducted with the staff that’s been working with the 5S program. The key theory’s that’s been used in the report are lean, overlap of operations, “hörnstensmodellen” which is a part of TQM and culture.The result shows that 50 % of the planned times for an article are not achieved because of different factors such as paint templates, humans, unforeseen stops, wrong times, washing machine and blasting. The result also show that the causes vary depending on the article. To improve the flow, new realistic times must be developedand the flow needs to be more technical, but also the organization needs to work with mental aspects such as leadership, communication, motivation, employees etc. The result of implementing 5S has contributed to more efficient work where employees feel motivated and participation in work, also management has shown greater commitment to their process.
Syftet med arbetet är att analysera flödet och implementera 5S i metall-förberedningen hos Gotland Gummifabrik AB. Implementering har genomförts med hjälp av 5S teori som står för sortera, strukturera, städa, standardisera och skapa vana. Ett linjediagram har används för att strukturera kvantitativ data i form av orderlogg där rapporterade tider jämförs med planerade tider. Intervjuer med anställda och ledningen har utförts för att identifiera orsaker till varför planerade tider inte uppnås. Orsakerna har strukturerats i ett orsaks-verkan-diagram med koppling till hur många som påpekat samma orsak. En processflödesanalys har gjorts tillsammans med ett layoutflödesschema för att ge en överskådlig bild av flödet och dess transportsträckor. Efter implementering har en utvärderingsdiskussion skett med personalen som arbetat med 5S programmet. Huvudsakliga teorier som används i arbetet är lean, överlappning av operationer, hörnstensmodellen och kultur. Resultatet av flödet visar att 50 % av de planerade tiderna för en artikel inte uppnås på grund av flertalet olika faktorer som lackmallar, människan, oförutsedda stopp, felaktiga tider, tvättmaskin och blästring. Resultatet redogör också att orsaker varierar beroende på artikel. För att förbättra flödet måste nya realistiska tider tas fram och flödet behöver bli mer tekniskt samt att organisationen behöver arbeta med mentala aspekter som kommunikation, ledarskap, motivation, medarbetare m.m. Resultatet för implementering av 5S har bidragit till ett mer effektivt arbete där medarbetarna känner sig motiverade och delaktiga till arbetet och att ledningen visat ett större engagemang för deras process.

Abstract:
The 5S system consists of 5 series of activities designed to improve workplace organization and standardization. These five activities begin with the letter S: Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. The key targets of 5S are to improve workplace morale, safety and efficiency and to reduce cost. In this study, industrial application of measurable 5S in a steel service center is explained. 5S performance index has been defined as a numerical basis for the measurement of 5S success. Numerical results provide objective evaluation. So, by analyzing the result of 5S performance index, improvement areas on 5S can be easily determined. This study indicates that by well-organized 5S program, 5S performance index steadily increases from the start time of 5S activities to 10 weeks after the start time. After 10 weeks, 5S performance index is maintained around desired value 100%.

Abstract The "Shock Stabilized Supersonic Spray System" is currently designed for operation at oxygen supply pressures of 250 psig or 500 psig. It sprays both powder and wire. Low heat losses result in flame-jet temperatures appreciably higher than for chamber type geometries. Increased spray rates and deposit efficiencies result. Simultaneous powder and wire spraying can lead to zero coating stress allowing unlimited thickness build-up. Post flame quenching during wire spraying reduces liquid droplet temperatures nearly eliminating "splashing", while keeping the substrate cool.

A reestruturação pós-guerra foi tão eficiente que ficou denominado como milagre econômico japonês, partindo de boas gestões governamentais e muita dedicação. Assim veio surgir o sistema 5S, desenvolvido inicialmente pelo Engenheiro Químico, Kaoru Ishikawa em 1950. Marcado por muitas destruições no cenário nacional, sistema produtivo, organizacional, limpeza, higiene, segurança e disciplina, acabou gerando uma grande deficiência competitiva no país. Com a crise instalada na década de 50, surgiu a ferramenta de qualidade"5S", que se consolidou no ambiente japonês e vem sendo base para gestão qualidade atualmente. A ferramenta 5s é um conceito, é uma atitude de vida e é uma prática muito simples de ser implantada nas organizações públicas e privadas. Tal ferramenta tem o fundamento de transformar o ambiente das organizações que desejam fazer melhorias, mantendo a competitividade do negócio como uma necessidade nos dias atuais. Mesmo havendo interesse na utilização da ferramenta, muitas organizações desistem pelas dificuldades encontradas na implementação. Neste trabalho foi feito um estudo bibliográfico de toda estrutura do método“5S” por meio de estudo de caso. Foi feita uma descrição detalhada de como implantouu-se a ferramenta em uma oganização do ramo de usinagem de peças automotiva.
