AbstractA useful tool for organizing jobs is the 5S methodology, which is essentially a program structured in five stages to obtain systematically: organization, cleanliness and standardization in the workplace, thus contributing to improving productivity, reducing quality nonconformities and job security problems, being a method that involves employees from all hierarchical levels using standards and discipline. Being a Japanese method for organizing, cleaning, developing and sustaining a productive job, the origin of the name comes from five Japanese words that start with the S sound, respectively: Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke. This technique was also adopted by the organizations from the strong economies and, by translating the five words from Japanese into English, resulting in an identical name of this methodology: Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, Sustain.

Abstract:
Dementia is a clinical syndrome of loss of intellectual capability. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the dominant subtype of dementia and is common among the elderly. Because of impaired memory and disturbed executive functioning, the elderly with AD often have difficulty to perform oral hygiene practice and are at high risk of dental caries and periodontal diseases. These dental problems are ambulatory care-sensitive conditions where effective community dental care can help prevent the need for hospital admission. Community dental care practitioners can formulate effective strategies for the elderly with AD to reduce their risk of dental diseases. One of these strategies is to integrate 5S into oral hygiene practice. 5S was originally developed for organising spaces for people to work efficiently, effectively, and safely. It consists of five steps which are (i) sorting to remove unnecessary items, (ii) setting-in-order to place the items in order of flow, (iii) shining to clean and maintain the environment, (iv) standardising to establish discipline for good oral hygiene habits, and (v) sustaining to keep 5S going by auditing and improving the environment and oral hygiene practice. This system helps the elderly with AD to put things where they belong and keep the workplace clean. Moreover, it facilitates the elderly with AD to perform oral hygiene practice without wasting time and risking injury. This paper discusses the use of 5S to help the elderly with AD build and sustain an effective oral hygiene practice habit to improve their oral health.

Abstract:
Purpose – Semiconductor wafer fabrication (FAB) is recognized as one of the most complex manufacturing systems. A newly built FAB has to pass various audits from its customer before the customer's wafers are initially produced. 5S audit is one of them. In order to comply with customer (auditor) expectations toward 5S practice, this paper assists wafer fabrication managers in allocating the limited resources to places that are valued most by their customer. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – This paper applied Yang's refined Kano model to Ho's 5S checklist to prioritise these checkpoints for a FAB. An empirical study based on Ho's 5S checklist from experienced internal auditors (respondents) to prioritise 5S activities was explored to justify its feasibility for a FAB and importance-satisfaction for customer. Findings – An empirical study in a case FAB demonstrated how the refined model prioritised 5S activities based on Ho's 5S checklist. The result of this study further showed that quality attributes possess different identities, which could offer management more framable scopes to implement 5S practice and sustain 5S scene management. Research limitations/implications – Since this empirical study was focused on a 300-mm wafer fabrication company, the results and findings may not generally explain other wafer-size fabrications. Practical implications – This study was applied to a real-world case of a newly built 300-mm semiconductor fabrication in Taiwan. It is a straightforward bridge to link a methodology in a practical manner to disseminate information to both researchers and practitioners. Originality/value – From the adoption of the refined Kano model, specific required check points for 5S practice are transformed from subjective, conceptual and linguistic practice to be identified, quantified and prioritised for semiconductor wafer fabrication under resources constraints to cater customer's 5S expectations and to generate more attention in building-up a much more robust scene management. This paper provided a systemic way to prioritise 5S activities for a semiconductor wafer fabrication.

The implementation of lean techniques in the Portuguese Air Force, specifically in the F-16 supply chain, was a success due to the reduction in the budget of €1.5M to support the F-16 weapons system. Since 2010, the maintenance of F-16 aircraft at Air Base No. 5, started to use the Kanban system, which led to an optimization in repair processes. Due to a digitalization of processes, this project aims to study the incorporation of artificial intelligence in lean techniques. According to F-16 supply chain, this project divides in three steps. The first one is about stock leveling to obtain a greater knowledge of the behavior of materials through the definition of key performance indicators. The second and third step are defined by creation of a control dashboard with artificial intelligence. Finally, it's defined an action plan for the implementation of the 5S methodology, which is also incorporated with artificial intelligence.

Abstract:
A high level of competitiveness of the market has forced corporations to reinvent themselves in order to survive. From this perspective, the food industry is extremely competitive and requires continuous improvement processes to meet the standards of their consumers. Objectives: This article aims to identify failures in the production line and propose improvements in its process, using the Lean methodology in a restaurant located in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Through observations of the production process, meetings with managers and interviews with the employees, two Lean tools were applied, the 5S and the Heijunka, to identify the restaurant's problems and suggest improvements. With the implementation of 5S, it was possible to identify failures in the storage, the organization of physical space and equipment also in the garbage sorting. To solve these issues, changes were made, improvement of the classification of stored materials, layout modifications, equipment reorganization, purchase of selective trash cans and confection of explanatory posters to guide employees on how to organize and clean the work environment, aiming at the improvement of processes. Applying Heijunka, it was found that the menu was one of the restaurant's problems due to the large amount of available dishes, which turned the waiting time longer and a bigger inventory. The problem was solved by updating the menu to make it leaner. The use of Lean tools made possible the improvements in the establishment's processes, leveling the production, reducing the waiting time of the orders, solving the problem of stock variety, providing a reduction in waste and customer complaints in the restaurant.

Abstract:
Abstract Lean is a methodology that concentrates on monitoring a process or a system, analyzing it, minimizing waste within the system, and increasing productivity simultaneously. On the other hand, 5S, which is an abbreviation for Sort, Set-In-Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, is a principle utilized to eliminate Process wastes which may include: wasted time, wasted space, and wasted inventory. The scope of this paper is to showcase the importance of employees’ contribution in continuous improvement initiatives and culture of capitalizing on the benefit of lessons learnt and knowledge sharing. The program began with educating maintenance team about Lean Principles, 5S Programs, DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) methodology and their importance. Then, sessions of brainstorming and data collection were conducted. In addition, employees were encouraged to use A3 papers to draft a comparison between current state and future state of any process, step, or a procedure which they think can be performed in a better, faster, safer, and more efficient manner. Next, a weekly continuous improvement meeting was held by quality committee which consisted of members from maintenance, quality & reliability, and management teams to review each improvement idea and take a proper action. The positive impact of Lean, 5S and DMAIC have been proved working and helped drilling business unit to exploit cost saving opportunities, maintain a perfect record of service quality with client, and improve maintenance productivity. This includes 100% client satisfaction and operating efficiency, 50% reduction in equipment turnaround time, over 100% increase in number of equipment maintained per month and decrease in overtime man-hours by 90%. These results were achieved after close monitoring and controlling of the overall process conducted for over 52 weeks (From Q3 2020 to Q3 2021) and more than 60 improvement ideas implemented. Improvement ideas were received, reviewed, analyzed, further enhanced, and immediately implemented to ensure the end results are obtained. The improvement ideas and lessons learnt register was built to document, give credit, and protect intellectual property of the idea owner and recognize top contributors to the register. This success story of performance elevation, cost reduction, process optimization and best practices implementation can be cascaded to other departments and companies delivering products and services to the petroleum industry.

Abstract:
In order to ensure the development and competitiveness of an organization, it is essential to continuously enhance processes, particularly those that generate revenue, i.e. business processes, as well as to introduce innovations. One of the business processes at BBS-Dizain Ltd that needs to be enhanced is the catering service. The aim of the research is to examine possibilities for shortening order processing times at BBS-Dizain Ltd. The research concluded that the average rating of order processing time at the restaurant given by the employees of BBS-Dizain Ltd (internal customers) was higher (4 points) than the rating given by visitors (external customers) (3.49 points). A contingency analysis showed that there was no correlation between the ratings given by external and internal customers; therefore, the restaurant’s personnel did not critically assess their performance in terms of order processing time. Since changes in the demand for the dishes on the menu of the restaurant exceeded 25%, and none of the dishes on the menu was a leader in terms of revenue generated, there were no dishes, the cooking process of which BBS-Dizain Ltd needed to optimize. The chefs of BBS-Dizain Ltd could enhance their skills in preparing Group AY meals, as the demand for them was relatively steady. Rearranging the workplace of a chef, using the 5S methodology, and replacing the worktop for the chef with a freezer allows significantly – two-fold – reducing the number of the steps made during the shift. However, rearranging the restaurant’s storeroom, using the 5S methodology, allows saving 95 % time spent on searching for things needed. Therefore, the possibilities to reduce order processing times at the restaurant of BBS-Dizain Ltd involve decreasing unnecessary movements of chefs at their workplaces and reducing the time spent on searching for things in the storeroom.

Abstract:
The flow rate distribution at the entrance of the core plays a key role for reactor design since it has important implications for the performance, and efficient safety of a nuclear reactor. When the coolant passes from the downcomer to the core, it changes direction due to the inertia force and the curvature of the bottom vessel head. The internal components inside lower plenum work to homogenize the flow distribution. Their purpose is to prevent the formation of instabilities and the creation of vortices due to the flow reversal. In the frame of EDF’s new reactor design there is a desire to identify an optimal flow diffuser. The future intention is to study five different types of flow diffuser including EPR, VVER, Konvoï, APR+ and Westinghouse to look at the pros and cons of each design. The authors underline that the geometries of each Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) and associated diffuser device are quite different therefore a generic form needs to be used to make an equivalent comparison. The goal of the present work is to find the optimal mesh refinement and associated numerical parameters for the simulation of the lower plenum flow. This work is a preliminary step for a future study to compare existing diffuser concepts. Thus in the future work only the section containing the flow diffuser structure will be changed. The PIRT methodology is applied to better define the physical phenomena and key parameters that will influence the flow distribution at the entrance of the core. In order to better understand the fluid distribution and the function of the diffuser component, 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations are launched to improve our knowledge on the flow pattern inside the lower plenum. Both the geometry and mesh are generated by Salomé1. Simulations are carried out using Code_Saturne2, an EDF in-house open-source CFD code. The generic test case is a 1/5 scale EDF “BORA” 4 loop mock-up with a flow rate of 0.1 m3/s injected into each cold leg. The unsteady flow algorithm with standard k-epsilon turbulence model has been used with a full explicit meshing except for the reactor core where a porous approach is adopted. The physical time for each calculation case is 5s for a converged simulation. Mesh sensitivity tests have been carried out ranging from 8 million cells to 28 million cells. A mesh of 22 million cells is found to provide the most appropriate balance between simulation quality and feasibility. Due to the size of the simulations, high performance computers are necessary to provide timely results. The results indicate that CFD can provide extra capacity to engineers for reactor design to evaluate the pros and cons of different existing diffuser concepts.
