The relative DNA content of cellular samples from 54 patients affected by breast carcinomas and 20 affected by benign breast lesions (including 11 fibroadenomas) was measured by flow cytometry. All normal tissue samples and 17/20 (85%) specimens from benign lesions exhibited a cytometrically diploid DNA distribution, 3/20 (15%) benign lesions an abnormal DNA content, and 35/54 (65%) carcinomas at least one aneuploid cell subpopulation. Furthermore, 9/54 (17%) tumors were characterized by the presence of more than one aneuploid cell subpopulation. The results also indicate that flow cytometry c

Abstract Objectives Smoking during pregnancy is a leading and modifiable risk factor for fetal growth restriction (FGR) and low birthweight (<10th centile). We studied the effects of smoking in the development of early and late FGR or low birthweight, as well as in uteroplacental and fetoplacental hemodynamics of growth-restricted fetuses. Methods Retrospective cohort study of 5,537 consecutive singleton pregnancies delivered at ≤34 + 0 (“early delivery” group, n=95) and >34 + 0 (“late delivery” group, n=5,442) weeks of gestation. Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella are pathogenic bacteria that can contaminate food products during or after processing. Ready-to-eat (RTE) food does not undergo any treatment to ensure its safety before consumption, and therefore risk of foodborne disease must be considered if these pathogens are present in the food. To evaluate the prevalence of these pathogens in RTE food, 140 RTE fish product samples, 501 RTE meat product samples, 462 RTE dairy samples, and 123 RTE dishes and desserts, providing a total of 1,226 samples, were collected from retail stores and food industry and analyzed

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is a hearing loss of >30 dB in at least three consecutive frequencies that occurs in 3 days. The aim of this study was to investigate anxiety and depression caused by sudden, idiopathic, one-sided hearing loss. The levels of anxiety and depression in patients with this type of hearing loss were determined using the Beck Anxiety Scale (BAS) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) at the time of the patient's first visit. In total, 56 patients (32 men and 24 women) with a mean age of 32.8 ± 9.9 years (range: 20 to 58 years) were selected as the patient group

Abstract Background The American College of Cardiology (ACC) recognizes HIV as a risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). However, 2019 guidelines do not address people living with HIV (PLWH), aside from stating that their Risk Estimator Plus tool, which is used to calculate a 10-year risk for ASCVD and advise management, likely underestimates CVD risk in PLWH. This quality assessment project examines rates of ACC guideline adherence for ASCVD prevention for PLWH who have calculated risk scores in the low (< 7.5%), intermediate (> 7.5% & < 20%),
