Abstract:
Background. DSM-5 proposes a new trait model of personality for the diagnosis of personality disorders. This model constitutes five major domains encompassing maladaptive personality traits that are considered as pathological ends of famous five factor model. There domains were named as antagonism (agreeableness), detachment (extraversion), disinhibition (conscientiousness), negative affectivity (neuroticism), and psychoticism (openness). Inventory used to operationalize this model is called Personality Inventory for DSM-V. This study utilizes brief form of the inventory with twenty-five items

Abstract Neonatal Holstein calves may have limited liver bile production and secretion, which could limit fat digestion and absorption. Eighty 2- to 5-d old Holstein bull calves were randomly assigned to one of 4 treatments using a randomized complete block design. Treatments were: 1) BS0: Control, no biosalt added to milk replacer; 2) BW1/2: BS fed at 0.175 g/d; 3) BS1: BS fed at 0.35 g/d; and 4) BS2: BS fed at 0.70 g/d. Calves were fed 2x/d at 0630 and 1800 h along with free choice water and a 22% CP mini-pelleted calf starter. The MR was fed at 0.567 kg/d for d 1–14, then increased to 0.85

Abstract:
DSM-IV-TR classifies hypochondriasis as a complex somatoform disorder, characterised by physical complaints for which no organic cause could be identified. DSM-5 replaced it with two new diagnostic terms: somatic symptoms disorder and illness anxiety disorder. The distinction was based on the presence or absence of somatic symptoms, and concerns have been raised with regards to the validity of these new diagnostic concepts. While there has recently been an increase in recognising the role of the underlying anxiety in this condition, the psychological needs of individuals with hypochondriasis r

Understanding of inferences and non-literal language, such as idioms, is critical for successful communication and academic learning. Assessment of inferential and idiom comprehension is essential for children who are showing difficulties in these areas so that appropriate intervention and support can be provided. There is very little information on the typical development of these specific areas of verbal comprehension in the literature and there are very few current assessments of inferential and idiom comprehension for British school-aged children. While many assessments that do exist have

The neurotransmitters serotonin (5-HT) and dopamine (DA) play roles in eating disorders, mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety, and in the regulation of locomotion. The 5-HT2C receptor is one of fourteen 5-HT receptor subtypes that is expressed in regions of the brain including the hippocampus, amygdala, dorsal striatum, nucleus accumbens (NA) and substantia nigra, and is therefore implicated in behaviours and disorders associated with these regions. 5-HT has been shown to exert both a tonic and phasic inhibitory control, through the 5-HT2C receptor, on the firing rate and bursting ac

Temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis (TLE-HS) is the most common type of pharmaco-resistant epilepsy. It is characterised by recurrent focal onset seizure that affects the medial part of the temporal lobe, in particular, the hippocampus. Patients with TLE-HS suffer from typical aura symptoms, especially epigastric aura, in addition to psychological symptoms which include dysmnestic symptoms such as memory impairment and fear. Chronic neuropathic pain, as a result of nerve injury or dysfunction in the nervous system, is poorly understood and is usually inadequately treated with analgesics such as morphine. It is characterised by hyperalgesia (an increased sensitivity to a mild noxious stimulus), allodynia (interpretation of a normally innocuous stimulus as noxious) and spontaneous pain (with no precipitating stimulus). Central sensitisation may be due to changes within the central nervous system and particularly the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, which may help to explain the abnormal pain responses observed in hum

Alzheimer’s disease is a chronic, neurodegenerative disease characterised by amyloid plaque accumulation, neurofibrillary tangles and eventual neuronal cell loss. The complex aetiology exhibited in late-onset Alzheimer’s disease presents a considerable challenge in the field of genetics, with identified variants from genome-wide association studies collectively only explaining about a third of disease incidence. As such, new avenues are being explored to elucidate underlying mechanisms associated with disease onset and progression. In 2014, the first epigenome-wide association studies in Alzhe

Els fàrmacs antidepressius necessiten unes quantes setmanes per aconseguir una resposta clínica (Trivedi et al., 2006).
