Abstract:
Background and aims: Oral mucosa is prone to various lesions. Some of these lesions can be early signs of a particular disease or even malignancy in the body. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency distribution of oral biopsies from 2009 to 2019. Methods: In this analytical descriptive cross-sectional study, 621 records of the oral cavity biopsies performed in the pathology department of Shahid Sadoughi hospital were analyzed. Age, gender, type of lesion, site of lesion, histopathological diagnosis, year of referral, and medical specialist who performed the biopsy were included in the study checklist. The data were analyzed using chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis test in SPSS version 25.0. Results: Of 621 biopsies, 308 specimens belonged to men (49.6%) and 313 specimens belonged to women (50.4%). The mean age of patients was 46.58±21.08 years, ranging from 6 months to 95 years. The most affected areas were the tongue (33%), lower lip (29.1%) and cheeks (17.7%). squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) (27.9%), inflammatory lesions (26.1%), mucocele (14.8%), and ulcers (8.5%) were the most frequent lesions. There was a significant difference in the age of individuals with different lesions (P<0.001). Conclusion: The most frequent lesion diagnosed in biopsies was SCC. The most frequently affected sites were tongue and cheek. Lesions were more frequent in women and were most frequently seen in the fourth, fifth, and sixth decades of life.

ImportanceTelemedicine can increase access to care, but uptake has been low among people living in rural areas. The Veterans Health Administration initially encouraged telemedicine uptake in rural areas, but telemedicine expansion efforts have broadened since the COVID-19 pandemic.ObjectiveTo examine changes over time in rural-urban differences in telemedicine use for primary care and for mental health integration services among Veterans Affairs (VA) beneficiaries.Design, Setting, and ParticipantsThis cohort study examined 63.5 million primary care and 3.6 million mental health integration visits across 138 VA health care systems nationally from March 16, 2019, to December 15, 2021. Statistical analysis took place from December 2021 to January 2023.ExposuresHealth care systems with most clinic locations designated as rural.Main Outcomes and MeasuresFor every system, monthly visit counts for primary care and mental health integration specialties were aggregated from 12 months before to 21 months after pandemic onset. Visits were categorized as in person or telemedicine, including video. A difference-in-difference approach was used to examine associations in visit modality by health care system rurality and pandemic onset. Regression models also adjusted for health care system size as well as relevant patient characteristics (eg, demographic characteristics, comorbidities, broadband internet access, and tablet access).ResultsThe study included 63 541 577 primary care visits (6 313 349 unique patients) and 3 621 653 mental health integration visits (972 578 unique patients) (6 329 124 unique patients among the cohort; mean [SD] age, 61.4 [17.1] years; 5 730 747 men [90.5%]; 1 091 241 non-Hispanic Black patients [17.2%]; and 4 198 777 non-Hispanic White patients [66.3%]). In fully adjusted models for primary care services before the pandemic, rural VA health care systems had higher proportions of telemedicine use than urban ones (34% [95% CI, 30%-38%] vs 29% [95% CI, 27%-32%]) but lower proportions of telemedicine use than urban health care systems after pandemic onset (55% [95% CI, 50%-59%] vs 60% [95% CI, 58%-62%]), signifying a 36% reduction in the odds of telemedicine use (odds ratio [OR], 0.64; 95% CI, 0.54-0.76). The rural-urban telemedicine gap was even larger for mental health integration (OR, 0.49; 95% CI, 0.35-0.67) than for primary care services. Few video visits occurred across rural and urban health care systems (unadjusted percentages: before the pandemic, 2% vs 1%; after the pandemic, 4% vs 8%). Nonetheless, there were rural-urban divides for video visits in both primary care (OR, 0.28; 95% CI, 0.19-0.40) and mental health integration services (OR, 0.34; 95% CI, 0.21-0.56).Conclusions and RelevanceThis study suggests that, despite initial telemedicine gains at rural VA health care sites, the pandemic was associated with an increase in the rural-urban telemedicine divide across the VA health care system. To ensure equitable access to care, the VA health care system’s coordinated telemedicine response may benefit from addressing rural disparities in structural capacity (eg, internet bandwidth) and from tailoring technology to encourage adoption among rural users.

3013 Background: ABBV-621 is a potent tumor-necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) receptor agonist fusion protein that induces apoptotic cell death, particularly in DR4/5 expressing tumor models. Methods: Patients (pts) with previously treated solid tumors and ECOG 0–2 were administered ABBV-621 (2.5–15 mg/kg IV) on day (D) 1 (dose level [DL] 1) or D1D8 (DL2 and beyond) of each 21-day cycle. Dose escalation (DE) was guided by a Bayesian continual reassessment method. In addition to PK studies, blood-based PD markers of apoptosis (M30, M65) and drug binding were assessed. Results: As of 14 December 2018, 57 pts were enrolled in the DE portion, of which 30% had pancreatic, 23% colorectal cancer, and 47% other tumor types; 13 were KRAS mutant. Median age was 61 yrs. 60% were male; pts had a median of 4 prior regimens (range 1–10). Pts per DL: 2.5 (5 on D1, 16 on D1D8), 3.75 (12), 5 (6), 6.5 (6), 8.5 (4), 11 (4), and 15 mg/kg (4). Median duration of ABBV-621 exposure was 2 cycles (range 1–11). Seven pts had dose-limiting toxicities: respiratory failure (5 mg/kg; Grade 5, the only treatment-related death), blood bilirubin increased (3.75, 6.5 mg/kg), nausea (3.75 mg/kg), fatigue (3.75 mg/kg), increased ALT (2.5, 3.75, 6.5, 15 mg/kg), and increased AST (6.5 mg/kg). Summary of AEs is shown in Table. Clinical trial information: NCT03082209. A partial response (duration 20 weeks) was observed in a pt with pancreatic cancer (2.5 mg/kg D1D8). 27 pts had stable disease (6 pts for > 12 weeks). ABBV-621 PK was linear (mean ± SD clearance was 1.79 mL/h/kg ± 0.44) with a terminal half-life of 36.7 ± 5.55 h (n = 49). ABBV-621 bound to decoy receptors on neutrophils for up to 168 h; the duration of binding was dose-dependent. M30 and M65 increased at 8, 24, and 48 h following ABBV-621, but effect was independent of dose. Conclusions: ABBV-621 shows evidence of antitumor activity and effect on blood-based markers of apoptosis, with acceptable toxicity (MTD not reached). NCT03082209.[Table: see text]

The research is concerned about studying the absorption spectrum of the solution coumarin dye C47. The chloroform solvent was used with C47 dye in three different concentrations 10-4, 10-5 and 10-6 M. The laser dye solution was prepared by dissolving the required amount of dye in chloroform alcohol, while studying absorption spectrum before and after irradiation with gamma ray by cobalt-60 source 60Co at exposure time, which are 0, 4, 6 and 18 hours with different absorbed doses 0, 136, 204 and 612 Gy. The results show that red shift in the absorption spectrum was increased by increasing the concentration of laser dye solutions , while the increase of gamma dose led to increase the red shift after irradiation, as the exposure period and irradiation dose increased from gamma ray at 60Co source. Furthermore, the decrease in the concentrations of laser dye solutions shifts the absorption spectrum peak towards the short wavelength blue shift.

В условиях Краснодарского края в 2021–2022 годах проводились исследования по применению 6-фурфуриламинопурина (0,075 г/л) в трёх дозах (0,5, 0,75 и 1,0 л/га) на землянике садовой сорта Клери, в результате которых было выявлено положительное влияние препарата как на биометрические показатели растений и элементы структуры урожая, так и на количество и качество полученной продукции. Отмечено, что значительный прирост по элементам структуры урожая был получен при обработке регулятором роста растений на основе 6-фурфуриламинопурина в норме 0,75 л/га. Так, увеличение среднего количества ягод на цветоносе в 2021–2022 годах составляло 31,1%. Масса ягод земляники возросла на 6,1–13,7% при среднем значении в контрольном варианте 14,37 г. Полученные в опытных вариантах ягоды отличались лучшими вкусовыми качествами и более сбалансированным биохимическим составом. Так, сумма сахаров в ягодах земляники садовой в вариантах с применением 0,075 г/л 6-фурфуриламинопурина возросла на 3,3–8,4%, а сумма сухих веществ — на 3,4–7,9% по сравнению с вариантом без обработки регулятором роста растений. Содержание витамина С в ягодах земляники увеличилось на 2,2–3,8% при 76,4 мг/100 г в контрольном варианте. Также выявлено положительное влияние регулятора роста на урожайность земляники. Максимальная прибавка урожая за 2 года была получена при применении препарата в дозе 0,75 л/г, она составила 0,5 т/га. Опрыскивание рассады земляники садовой сорта Клери через 2 недели после высадки 6-фурфуриламинопурином (0,075 г/л) благоприятно сказалось на росте и развитии культуры, улучшении продуктивности и качественных показателей ягод земляники, а также способствовало лучшей приживаемости высаженной рассады и снижению стресса у растений This article reports on the application of three rates (0.5, 0.75 and 1.0 l ha-1) of 6-furfurylaminopurine (0.075 g/l) when growing strawberry (Kleri) in the Krasnodar region in 2021–2022. A positive effect was indicated on plant biometry, productivity as well as product quantity and quality. The growth stimulator based on 6-furfurylaminopurine (0.75 l ha-1) significantly improved plant productivity. The number of strawberries per peduncle grew by 31.1% in 2021–2022. The mass of strawberries increased by 6.1–13.7% under the average value of 14.37 g in a control. The application of the growth stumulator resulted in the product of better taste with more balanced biochemistry. Treating strawberries with 0.075 g/l of 6-furfurylaminopurine led to the increase of sugars by 3.3–8.4%, dry matter — by 3.4–7.9%. The content of vitamin C grew by 2.2–3.8% versus 76.4 mg/100 g in the control. The growth stimulator had positive impact on strawberry productivity. The highest yield increase of 0.5 l ha-1 was observed under the application of 0.75 l ha-1 of the preparation. Spraying strawberry with 6-furfurylaminopurine (0.075 g/l) 2 weeks after planting improved plant growth, development, productivity, quality, and stress-resistance.

To determine the role of endothelin-1 (ET-1) and its receptors in the regulation of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) release, male Wistar rats were divided into six groups and subjected to the following treatments for 1 wk with or without ABT-627 (an ETA receptor antagonist, 5 mg·kg−1·day−1 in drinking water) or A-192621 (an ETB-receptor antagonist, 30 mg·kg−1·day−1 by oral gavage): control (Con), ET-1 (5 ng·kg−1·min−1 iv), Con + ABT-627, Con + A-192621, ET-1 + ABT-627, and ET-1 + A-192621. Baseline mean arterial pressure (MAP, mmHg) was higher ( P < 0.05) in Con + A-192621 (122 ± 4) and ET-1 + A-192621 (119 ± 4) groups compared with Con (104 ± 6), ET1 (106 ± 3), Con + ABT-627 (104 ± 3), and ET1 + ABT-627 (100 ± 3) groups. Intravenous administration of CGRP8–37 (a CGRP receptor antagonist, 1 mg/kg) increased MAP ( P < 0.05) in ET-1 (13 ± 1), Con + A-192621 (12 ± 1), and ET-1 + A-192621 (15 ± 3) groups compared with Con (4 ± 1), Con-ABT-627 (4 ± 1), and ET-1 + ABT-627 (5 ± 1) groups. Plasma CGRP levels (in pg/ml) were increased ( P < 0.05) in ET-1 (57.5 ± 6.1), Con + A-192621 (53.9 ± 3.4), and ET-1 + A-192621 (60.4 ± 3.0) groups compared with Con (40.4 ± 1.6), Con + ABT-627 (40.0 ± 2.9), and ET-1 + ABT-627 (42.6 ± 1.9) groups. Plasma ET-1 levels (in pg/ml) were higher ( P < 0.05) in ET-1 (2.8 ± 0.2), ET-1 + ABT-627 (3.2 ± 0.4), Con + A-192621 (3.3 ± 0.4), and ET-1 + A-192621 (4.6 ± 0.3) groups compared with Con (1.1 ± 0.2) and Con-ABT-627 (1.3 ± 0.2) groups. Therefore, our data show that ET-1 infusion leads to increased CGRP release via activation of the ETA receptor, which plays a compensatory role in preventing ET-1-induced elevation in blood pressure.

BackgroundThe interrater reliability of 2 new inpatient functional short-form measures, Activity Measure for Post-Acute Care (AM-PAC) “6-Clicks” basic mobility and daily activity scores, has yet to be established.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to examine the interrater reliability of AM-PAC “6-Clicks” measures.DesignA prospective observational study was conducted.MethodsFour pairs of physical therapists rated basic mobility and 4 pairs of occupational therapists rated daily activity of patients in 1 of 4 hospital services. One therapist in a pair was the primary therapist directing the assessment while the other therapist observed. Each therapist was unaware of the other's AM-PAC “6-Clicks” scores. Reliability was assessed with intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), Bland-Altman plots, and weighted kappa.ResultsThe ICCs for the overall reliability of basic mobility and daily activity were .849 (95% confidence interval [CI]=.784, .895) and .783 (95% CI=.696, .847), respectively. The ICCs for the reliability of each pair of raters ranged from .581 (95% CI=.260, .789) to .960 (95% CI=.897, .983) for basic mobility and .316 (95% CI=−.061, .611) to .907 (95% CI=.801, .958) for daily activity. The weighted kappa values for item agreement ranged from .492 (95% CI=.382, .601) to .712 (95% CI=.607, .816) for basic mobility and .251 (95% CI=.057, .445) to .751 (95% CI=.653, .848) for daily activity. Mean differences between raters' scores were near zero.LimitationsRaters were from one health system. Each pair of raters assessed different patients in different services.ConclusionsThe ICCs for AM-PAC “6-Clicks” total scores were very high. Levels of agreement varied across pairs of raters, from large to nearly perfect for physical therapists and from moderate to nearly perfect for occupational therapists. Levels of agreement for individual item scores ranged from small to very large.

AbstractTwo new minerals shchurovskyite, ideally K2CaCu6O2(AsO4)4, and dmisokolovite, ideally K3Cu5AlO2(AsO4)4, are found in sublimates of the Arsenatnaya fumarole at the Second scoriacone of the Northern Breakthrough of the Great Tolbachik Fissure Eruption, Tolbachik volcano, Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia. They are associated with one another and with johillerite, bradaczekite, tilasite, melanarsite, tenorite, hematite, aphthitalite, langbeinite, orthoclase, etc. Shchurovskyiteoccurs as coarse tabular or prismatic crystals up to 0.15 mm in size or anhedral grains forming parallel aggregates and crusts up to 1.5 cm × 2 cm across. Dmisokolovite forms tabular, prismatic or dipyramidal crystals up to 0.2 mm in size, commonly combined in clusters or crusts up to0.7 cm × 1.5 cm across. Both minerals are transparent with a vitreous lustre. They are brittle, with Mohs' hardness ≈3. Shchurovskyite is olive-green or olive drab. Dmisokolovite is bright emerald-green to light green. Dcalc = 4.28 (shchurovskyite) and 4.26 (dmisokolovite)g cm–3. Both are optically biaxial; shchurovskyite: (+), α = 1.795(5), β = 1.800(5), γ = 1.810(6), 2Vmeas = 70(15)°; dmisokolovite: (–), α = 1.758(7), β = 1.782(7), γ = 1.805(8), 2Vmeas = 85(5)°. K and Ca are located in channels of the quasi-framework. BackgroundThe impact of delay in diagnosis on the disease severity and functional loss has been shown previously In Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients.ObjectivesThis study aimed to evaluate the impact of 6 month-delay in diagnosis on patients` clinical outcomes and functional outcomes in the PsA patients under bDMARD therapy using a national database.MethodsTReasure is a national, multicentre, longitudinal, and observational database, initiated in Turkey in 2017 and now includes 17 centres [1]. PsA patients with/out more than 6 months from the onset of symptoms to diagnosis were evaluated. Demographic characteristics of the patients (age, gender, delay in diagnosis), smoking (ever), BMI, and CCI score were calculated. PsA and associated disease characteristics; dactylitis, enthesitis, uveitis, IBD, sacroiliitis by mNY, disease activity at bDMARD initiation; SJC (66 joints), TJC (68 joints), ASDAS-CRP, ASDAS-ESR, BASDAI, ESR, CRP, VAS (physician global, patient global), function and quality of life; BASFI (>40 mm), HAQ-DI (<0.5, 0.5-1.0, >1.0), EQ5D, were assessed and compared between two groups.ResultsIn TReasure database, the time between symptom to diagnosis was known in 865/911 (94.9%) of PsA patients. More than 6 months of delay in diagnosis was present in 627/865 (72.4%) patients. In delayed-diagnosis group time from symptom onset to initiation of bDMARD was longer (6.1 (3.3-6.1) vs 2.4 (0.8-7.1) years, p<0.001). Patients with delay in diagnosis of PsA had more sacroiliitis (57.3% vs 46.2%, p=0.014) according to mNY criteria. However, dactylitis was more common in patients with less than 6 months of delay in diagnosis (31.2% vs 19.1%, p<0.001).Patients’ ASDAS-CRP and VAS-Physician Global score were slightly higher, while other activity parameters were similar; (ASDAS-ESR, BASDAI, BASMI, VAS patient global, SJC and TJC) (Table 1). There was no difference between the median (IQR) BASFI and HAQ-DI scores in delayed-diagnosis group, whereas BASFI and HAQ-DI categories showed worse function and quality of life. EQ5D showed similar result with slightly worse scores in delayed-diagnosis group.ConclusionApproximately three-quarters of PsA patients using bDMARDs have a delay of at least 6 months in diagnosis. Delay in diagnosis significantly prolongs the time until bDMARD initiation. The most important clinical finding in earlier diagnosis group is dactylitis. Axial involvement may be a reason, perhaps the result, of the delay in diagnosis. Since the delay in diagnosis is related to poor function and quality of life, efforts should be made for early diagnosis at every stage.Reference[1]Kalyoncu U, et al. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo principal determinar el contenido de sacarosa de seis (6) cultivares de caña de azúcar, dentro de un plan estratégico para seleccionar clones de alto contenido de sacarosa, precocidad y resistencia a enfermedades y plagas que posibiliten el desarrollo de la producción artesanal de azúcar de la región. El trabajo en referencia se efectuó en el Centro de Investigación de Allpahuayo, propiedad del Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana (IIAP), ubicado en la carretera Iquitos-Nauta, a la altura del km. 20. El suelo donde se desarrolló el experimento presenta un pH de 4.5 y es de textura franco arcillosa, con un promedio de materia orgánica de 2.7%, alto nivel de aluminio (62.27%) y baja saturación de bases. Los tratamientos en estudio correspondieron a los siguientes cultivares: NCO 310, CO 622, PR 980, L 6025, PHIL 5333 y “caña brava”, los que fueron instalados con diseño experimental de bloque completo randomizado. El cultivar que obtuvo el primer lugar en contenido de sacarosa fue el NCO 310, con 20.037 de pol, y el último lugar correspondió al cultivar CO 622, con 15.927 de po1.

Abstract:
The epidemiology of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections varies among populations depending on their demographic characteristics and exposure. This study describes the prevalence of HSV 1/2 IgG and IgM antibodies among individuals over a period of 5 years. A retrospective study was conducted to collect data on cases tested for HSV-1 and HSV-2 IgG and IgM antibodies for different medical conditions over five years between January 2014 and December 2018. 620 samples were tested for HSV 1/2 IgG and IgM during the study period. The total HSV seropositivity in the study population was 68% (422/620). The total seropositivity excluding children below 6 months of age was 65.3% (313/479). HSV-IgG seropositivity was significantly higher in married individuals (p<0.001, 95% CI 1.61–3.69). The HSV IgG seropositivity was significantly higher in children under the age of 6 months (N=109, 77.30%) than in children between 7 and 24 months old (27.6%) (Chi-square for linear trend, p<0.001), and it then tends to increase with age more than 24 months (Chi-square for linear trend, p=0.011). Eleven children showed laboratory evidence of recent HSV infection (6.2%) as indicated by HSV IgM antibodies and had diverse clinical conditions. HSV infection is highly prevalent in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Infection is most probably acquired during early childhood, and the tendency increases with age. However, a significant number of mothers are at risk of infection and transferring the infection to their fetuses.

ImportanceIt is currently unclear whether high-resolution computed tomography can preoperatively identify pathologic tumor invasion for ground-glass opacity lung adenocarcinoma.ObjectivesTo evaluate the diagnostic value of high-resolution computed tomography for identifying pathologic tumor invasion for ground-glass opacity featured lung tumors.Design, Setting, and ParticipantsThis prospective, multicenter diagnostic study enrolled patients with suspicious malignant ground-glass opacity nodules less than or equal to 30 mm from November 2019 to July 2021. Thoracic high-resolution computed tomography was performed, and pathologic tumor invasion (invasive adenocarcinoma vs adenocarcinoma in situ or minimally invasive adenocarcinoma) was estimated before surgery. Pathologic nonadenocarcinoma, benign diseases, or those without surgery were excluded from analyses; 673 patients were recruited, and 620 patients were included in the analysis. Statistical analysis was performed from October 2021 to January 2022.ExposurePatients were grouped according to pathologic tumor invasion.Main Outcomes and MeasuresPrimary end point was diagnostic yield for pathologic tumor invasion. Secondary end point was diagnostic value of radiologic parameters.ResultsAmong 620 patients (442 [71.3%] female; mean [SD] age, 53.5 [12.0] years) with 622 nodules, 287 (46.1%) pure ground-glass opacity nodules and 335 (53.9%) part-solid nodules were analyzed. The median (range) size of nodules was 12.1 (3.8-30.0) mm; 47 adenocarcinomas in situ, 342 minimally invasive adenocarcinomas, and 233 invasive adenocarcinomas were confirmed. Overall, diagnostic accuracy was 83.0% (516 of 622; 95% CI, 79.8%-85.8%), diagnostic sensitivity was 82.4% (192 of 233; 95% CI, 76.9%-87.1%), and diagnostic specificity was 83.3% (324 of 389; 95% CI, 79.2%-86.9%). For tumors less than or equal to 10 mm, 3.6% (8 of 224) were diagnosed as invasive adenocarcinomas. The diagnostic accuracy was 96.0% (215 of 224; 95% CI, 92.5%-98.1%), diagnostic specificity was 97.2% (210 of 216; 95% CI, 94.1%-99.0%); for tumors greater than 20 mm, 6.9% (6 of 87) were diagnosed as adenocarcinomas in situ or minimally invasive adenocarcinomas. The diagnostic accuracy was 93.1% (81 of 87; 95% CI, 85.6%-97.4%) and diagnostic sensitivity was 97.5% (79 of 81; 95% CI, 91.4%-99.7%). For tumors between 10 to 20 mm, the diagnostic accuracy was 70.7% (220 of 311; 95% CI, 65.3%-75.7%), diagnostic sensitivity was 75.0% (108 of 144; 95% CI, 67.1%-81.8%), and diagnostic specificity was 67.1% (112 of 167; 95% CI, 59.4%-74.1%). Tumor size (odds ratio, 1.28; 95% CI, 1.18-1.39) and solid component size (odds ratio, 1.31; 95% CI, 1.22-1.42) could each independently serve as identifiers of pathologic invasive adenocarcinoma. When the cutoff value of solid component size was 6 mm, the diagnostic sensitivity was 84.6% (95% CI, 78.8%-89.4%) and specificity was 82.9% (95% CI, 75.6%-88.7%).Conclusions and relevanceIn this diagnostic study, radiologic analysis showed good performance in identifying pathologic tumor invasion for ground-glass opacity–featured lung adenocarcinoma, especially for tumors less than or equal to 10 mm and greater than 20 mm; these results suggest that a solid component size of 6 mm could be clinically applied to distinguish pathologic tumor invasion.

In the Rostov region, among cereal crops, winter wheat occupies a leading position in terms of the sown area. Breeders have developed wheat varieties, a productivity potential of which is 1.5–2 times higher than their actual yield in production. One of the most important factors that can destabilize gross grain harvests and reduce productivity are parasitic organisms, the most dangerous of which are rust pathogens (Puccinia triticina, P.striiformis, P.graminis). Brown rust (pathogen Puccinia triticina Erikss.) is one of the dangerous wheat diseases. The genetic diversity of cultivated varieties according to resistance types and genes that control it, provides reliable wheat protection against this pathogen. The purpose of the current study was to identify leaf rust resistance genes (Lr-genes) using marker selection for the winter bread wheat lines. The study was carried out in 2020–2021. The objects of research were 311 winter bread wheat lines of the FSBSI Agricultural Research Center «Donskoy». In the study of winter bread wheat lines, there were used such methods as DNA isolation using CTAB, PCR, and electrophoresis on agarose gels. Using molecular markers, there have been identified 24 samples with a functional allele of the Lr10 gene (1672, 518/21 (1), 595/21 (1) 595 (4), 625/21, 626/21, etc.), 49 samples with the dominant allele Lr26 (1105, 502/21, 526/21 (1), 526/21 (2), 529/21 (12), 557/21, etc.), 13 lines with the resistance allele of the Lr37 gene (1105, 1609, 1610, 1611, 1612, 1613, 1615, etc.). There was also found that the Lr17a gene was not detected in the studied lines.

In medical workers from the 2nd group, besides non-pharmacological therapy, received the drug Varenicline, 195 out of 305 (64%) persons completely stopped smoking; In the 1st group of Medical workers receiving non-drug therapy, 177 out of 316 (56% ) cases completely quit smoking (OR= 1.40; 95% CI: 1.01-1.93; p=0.0423). 6 months after the end of the treatment program, in the first group 84 (26.7%) medical workers) in the 2nd group - 31 medical workers (10.2%) restarted smoking, (OR=3.02, 95% CI: 2.05-5.02; p<0.00001). Conclusion. Thus, the antismoking program, including drug Varenicline and, if necessary, nicotine-replacement therapy, as well as non-drug effects, including psycho-social support; psychotherapy; breathing exercises; acupuncture; an increase in physical activity showed higher efficacy compared with the antismoking program without Varenicline, moreover, high efficacy remained even after the treatment carried out for 6 months.

AbstractIntravascular catheter tip colonization was prospectively evaluated in critically ill neonates to determine its relationship to the type of device used, duration of catheterization, insertion site and nosocomial bloodstream infection. Sixty-one percent (376 of 621) of all intravascular catheter tips were retrieved from 91 infants. Thirteen percent (41 of 310) of peripheral intravenous, 14% (6 of 42) of umbilical, 21% (3 of 11) of central venous, 36% (4 of 11) of peripheral arterial and 100% (2 of 2) of femoral catheters were colonized. Duration of catheterization was significantly longer for colonized lines (p < .001). Eight of 26 (30.8%) peripheral intravenous catheters remaining in place for more than three days were colonized, compared with 33 of 284 (11.6%) at three days or less (p= 0.012). Coagulase-negative staphylococcus was the organism most frequently isolated from catheter tips and bloodstream infections. Catheter colonization rates in this population were higher than those found in adults. Heavily manipulated devices and those in place for longer periods of time were the most frequently colonized.

Background:Most of the patients suffering from autoimmune and rheumatic diseases (AIRD) are on immunomodulator or immunosuppressive therapies and they are susceptible to infections including COVID19.Objectives:To assess the risk factors for hospitalization with COVID-19 in patients with AIRDMethods:A single centre retrospective observational study including patients with AIRD who had contracted COVID-19. Data was collected from all patients attending our clinic from September 2020 to January 2021. Patients with COVID-19 were divided into hospitalized and non-hospitalized groups. Clinical, demographic, ongoing medications, comorbidities and post COVID flare data were collected and analysed using crosstabs-chi square and Mann-Whitney U test.Results:520 patients with AIRD were screened over the study duration, of which 52 patients who had contracted COVID-19 were included in the study. Amongst them, 19 patients (36.5%) required hospitalization. The common symptoms in the hospitalized patients over non-hospitalized were fever (63.2% vs 57.6), fatigue (42.1% vs 21.2%), headache (36.8% vs 18.2%), abdominal pain (26.3% vs 6.1%), myalgias (36.8 vs 18.2%) and dyspnea (31.6% vs 18.2%). The most common rheumatic conditions seen in both the groups were RA (42.1% vs 30.3%), SPA (26.3% vs 36.4%), and SLE with other CTD’s (15.8% vs 24.2%). 6 patients (11.5%) required ICU stay, 3 patients (5.7%) were ventilated, and 2 (3.8%) patients died.Patients requiring hospitalization were aged >50 years (p=0.018), had DM type II (p=0.003), HTN (p=0.035), multimorbidity (p=0.021), and a higher CORAD score (p<0.001). Usage of CsDMARDS, bDMARDS, TsDMARDS, corticosteroids did not show a significant difference between both the groups. Patients with >2 years of disease duration required hospitalization in comparison to <2 years of duration but this was not statistically significant.84.2% of hospitalized and 69.7% of non-hospitalized patients stopped anti-rheumatic treatment and disease flare was seen in 47.4% and 39.4% patients respectively.Conclusion:The rheumatic disease and their medications did not increase the risk of COVID-19 hospitalization in this study. However, higher age, DM II, HTN, and high CORAD score were found to be associated with hospitalization in AIRD patients. AbstractKudryavtsevaite, ideally Na3MgFe3+Ti4O12, is a new mineral from kimberlitic rocks of the Orapa area, Botswana. It occurs as rare prismatic crystals, up to 100 μm m across, associated with Mg-rich ilmenite, freudenbergite and ulvöspinel. Kudryavtsevaite is opaque with a vitreous lustre and shows a black streak. It is brittle; the Vickers hardness (VHN100) is 901 kg mm−2 (range: 876–925) (Mohs hardness ∼6). In reflected light, kudryavtsevaite is moderately bireflectant and very weakly pleochroic from dark grey to a slightly bluish grey. Under crossed polars, it is very weakly anisotropic with greyish-bluish rotation tints. Internal reflections are absent. Reflectance values (%), Rmin and Rmax, are: 21.3, 25.4 (471.1 nm), 20.6, 24.1 (548.3 nm), 20.0, 23.5 (586.6 nm) and 19.1, 22.4 (652.3 nm).Kudryavtsevaite is orthorhombic, space group Pnma, with a = 27.714(1), b = 2.9881(3), c = 11.3564(6) Å, V = 940.5(1) Å3, and Z = 4. The crystal structure [R1 = 0.0168 for 819 reflections with I > 2σ(I)] consists of edge-sharing and corner-sharing chains composed of Mg, Fe3+ and Ti atoms coordinated by six atoms of oxygen and running along the b axis, with Na filling the tunnels formed by the chains. The eight strongest powder-diffraction lines [d in Å (I/I0) (hkl)] are: 7.17 (100) (301), 4.84 (70) (302), 2.973 (35) (901), 2.841 (50) (004), 2.706 (50) (902), 2.541 (50) (312), 2.450 (70) (611), and 2.296 (45) (612). The average results of 12 electron microprobe analyses gave (wt.%): Na2O 16.46(15), CaO 1.01(3), MgO 5.31(5), Fe2O3 22.24(32), Cr2O3 1.05(6), Al2O3 0.03(2), TiO2 53.81(50), total 99.91, corresponding to the empirical formula (Na2.89Ca0.10)Σ2.99(Ti3.67Fe1.523+Mg0.72Cr0.08)Σ5.99O12, or ideally Na3MgFe3+Ti4O12.The new mineral has been approved by the IMA-CNMNC and named for Galina Kudryavtseva (1947–2006), a well known Russian mineralogist and founder of the Diamond Mineralogy Laboratory and scientific school for investigation of diamond mineralogy and geochemistry at the Lomonosov State University in Moscow, Russia.

Abstract.The amount of water storage change in Tangnaihai basin is obtained by using monthly gravity field data, which is derived from GRACE satellite between 2003 and 2008, with Gaussian filter. Combined with the same time period monthly precipitation data of the regional meteorological stations, we analysis spatial-temporal variation trend of water storge change in Tangnaihai basin for nearly 6 years. Results show that the spatial distribution of water storge change in Tangnaihai basin has obvious difference,water storge change is more in west than in east area.Water storge change has obviously seasonal variation change, and it has the same process with precipitation.The trend of water storge change increase in annual in study area. Water storge change increased from 2003 to 2008 in totally in Tangnaihai basin.The average rate is 0.5 mm/month,and water storge change reduced about 6.1*106 m3.

Background and Aim: Antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) are added to animal feed to stimulate growth and increase livestock productivity. However, the regular use of antibiotics in animal diets has a considerable contribution to the occurrence of antibiotic resistance in livestock and humans. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum), turmeric (Curcuma domestica), and wild ginger (Curcuma xanthorrhiza), Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus brevis as an alternative to AGPs. Materials and Methods: The antibacterial activities and probiotic stimulatory effects of herbs were screened through the disc diffusion method and optical densitometry. The inhibitory ability of probiotics against pathogens was also tested through the disc diffusion method. The adhesion ability of probiotics was tested by mixing the optimal herbal combinations with broiler intestinal epithelial cells (105 cells/ml). The cells were then subjected to Gram staining, and the number of adherent bacteria was calculated. Results: The test results showed that 3.13% ethanolic wild ginger extract had the highest inhibitory activity against Salmonella Enteritidis, followed by ethanolic red ginger extract and aqueous wild ginger extract at the same concentration. The three extracts also supported the growth of L. acidophilus and L. brevis. Further tests showed that the combination of 3.13% ethanolic red ginger extract had the highest inhibitory activity against S. Enteritidis, followed by ethanolic and aqueous wild ginger extract at the same concentration. The three extracts also supported the growth of L. acidophilus and L. brevis. Further tests showed that the combination of 3.13% ethanolic red ginger extract and 3.13% aqueous wild ginger extract had the best inhibitory effect on the growth of S. Enteritidis. The stimulatory effect of the combinations of herbal extract on the growth of L. acidophilus (0.18±0.00) and L. brevis (0.21±0.01) was better than those of individual extract, positive controls, and the glucose control. L. acidophilus and L. brevis had a weak inhibitory effect on the growth of S. Enteritidis (<6 mm). The adhesion ability of L. acidophilus (420.00±28.21) and L. brevis (259.33±24.03) was stronger than that of S. Enteritidis (202.00±14.00) under treatment with combined extracts. Conclusion: The tested combinations of herbs and probiotics can adhere to the intestinal tract. Given this characteristic, herb and probiotic combinations may be developed as an alternative to conventional AGPs.

Field experiments were carried out during rabi seasons of 2015-16 and 2016-17 at the Research Farm, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Wheat variety PBW 621 was sown on three dates (D1: 4th week of October, D2: 2nd week of November and D3: 4th week of November) with two irrigation levels (I1: IW/ CPE = 0.9, I2: At CRI, 5-6 weeks after 1st irrigation, 3-4/5-6 weeks after 2nd irrigation, 2/4 weeks after 3rd irrigation as per dates of sowing) and mulch application (M1: without mulch, M2: straw mulch @ 5 t ha-1). Earlier sown mulch applied crop with four post-sowing irrigations produced highest (5312.5 kg ha-1) and late sown without mulch application crop with irrigation @IW/CPE = 0.9 produced lowest grain yield (3900.5 kg ha-1). Simulation results depicted -1.1 to 16.8 per cent deviation in crop yield, -1.4 to -21.0 per cent in water use and 12.7 to 45.5 per cent in water productivity. Increase in temperature from 1oC to 3oC decreased wheat yield by 6.3 to 27.0 per cent under D1 and 3.3 to 17.6 per cent under D2, however, it increased from 8.1 to 16.2 per cent under D3, indicating D3 as most appropriate under future warming scenarios. Increase in CO2 concentration decreased water use and increased yield and water productivity.

Abstract Approximately one third of the world’s population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Developing novel vaccines to protect against pulmonary tuberculosis is a public health priority. In this study, a Hybrid 1 (H1) subunit vaccine containing a recombinant fusion protein of Ag85B and ESAT-6 was paired with a two-component CAF01 liposomal adjuvant system developed and manufactured by Statens Serum Institut. A phase I clinical study was performed to evaluate H1:CAF01 in healthy non-BCG vaccinated adult male and female subjects between the ages of 18 and 55 years old. The subjects were randomized into four groups including H1 alone or H1 with 125/25µg, 313/125µg or 625/125µg CAF01 and were vaccinated on study days 0 and 56. PBMCs harvested approximately 150 weeks post vaccination were used to assess antigen specific responses by a 13-color intracellular cytokine staining assay. Vaccination with H1:CAF01 resulted in statistically significant Ag85B-specific CD4 polyfunctional CD154+ T cells compared to H1 alone. ESAT-6 stimulation resulted in detection of CD4 polyfunctional CD154+ T cells responses that were not elevated to a statistically significant extent compared to H1 alone. This is the first demonstration of the persistence of an antigen-specific cellular immune response up to 3 years after vaccination in a clinical trial using H1:CAF01 vaccination.

BackgroundSystemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) SLE often mimics the symptoms of other diseases, and the interval between symptom onset and diagnosis remains long in these patients.ObjectivesTo examine the variables associated with a delay to diagnosis and their impact in damage accrual and mortality in patients with SLE.MethodsGLADEL a multi-ethnic, multi-national Latin-American SLE inception cohort was studied. Patients were recruited based on the physicians’ diagnosis but 97% fulfilled the ACR criteria. Delay to diagnosis was defined as ≥6 months from the first ACR criterion to SLE diagnosis. Socio-demographic, clinical/laboratory, disease activity, damage and mortality were compared using descriptive statistical tests. Multivariable Cox regression (HR) model with damage accrual and mortality as the end points were performed.ResultsOf the 1437 included in this analysis, the median delay to diagnosis was 5.9 months (Q1-Q3 2.4–16.1) and 721 (50.2%) had ≥6 months delay in SLE diagnosis. Patients with delay in diagnosis were more frequently of female gender, older age at diagnosis, mestizo ethnicity and without medical insurance. The characteristics of patients according to delay in diagnosis are depicted in Table 1. Delay to diagnosis did not impact on disease outcome: damage accrual [HR 1.21 (IC 95% 0.78-1.88; p=0.39)] and mortality [HR 1.30, CI 95% 0.84-2.01; p= 0.24)], after adjusting for age at SLE diagnosis, gender, ethnicity and socioeconomic status.ConclusionIn the GLADEL cohort, delay to diagnosis was associated to sex, age, thrombosis, sicca syndrome, cutaneous and neurological involvement. Furthermore, delay to diagnosis had no apparent negative impact on disease outcome (damage accrual and mortality). e16071 Background: To report long term Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in a prospective series of 629 patients with intermediate or high-risk clinically localized prostate cancer treated with either IMRT or IMRT + HDR. Methods: Between December 1999 and December 2010, 629 patients (pts) with PSA›10, Gleason score›6 and/or T2b-T3 N0 M0 prostate cancer entered the study. Pts were prospectively assigned to one of the two treatment groups: 76 Gy HD-3D-IMRT to the prostate in 38 fractions (group 1; 315 patients) or 46 Gy LD-3D-CRT+ 16 Gy HDR-B given in 2 fractions of 8 Gy (group 2, 316 patients), limiting the maximum rectal dose to 85% of the prescribed dose. Both groups were well balanced taking into account patient’s as well as tumors’ characteristics. Toxicities were scored by the EORTC /RTOG morbidity grading scales. Special attention to local, regional or distant recurrence, survival, late effects, PSA and testosterone levels as well as HRQOL was done. Results: All pts completed treatment. None pts included in group 1 or 2 had grade 3 or more rectal toxicity. With a mean follow-up of 96 m, the 8-year free-from-failure survival was 90.7% and 98.3% (p<0.02) in group 1 and 2 respectively; free-from-metastases survival 96.9% and 97.9% (p<0,08)for group 1 and 2; and cause-specific survival 97.4% and 98.3% (p<0.09). HRQoL was evaluated before treatment, at 3 months interval during the first year follow up and in a yearly basis until 10-year. I-PSS and EORTC’s QLQ-C30 with PR-25 were used. I-PSS scores at 1, 3 and 6 months and at 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 years follow-up were 6.39, 5.00, 2.52, 2.21, 2.35, 3.65 and 1.43 for group 1 pts and 1.50, 1.10, 1.01, 1.05, 0.89, 0.66, 0.67 for group 2 pts. Global HRQoL scores at 1, 3 and 6 months and at 1, 2, 3 and 5 years follow up were 5.56, 5.75, 5.33, 6.00, 5.40, 5.58 and 5.11 for group 1 pts and 5.60, 6.40, 5.78, 5.89, 5.83, 6.37, 6.00 for group 2 pts, being found to be statistically significant at 3 and 5 years follow up (p<0,001 and p<0,024). Conclusions: High-dose 3D-IMRT + HDR brachytherapy was found to be a method of escalating the dose to the prostate that not only increased the chances of cure for patients if not increased their long-term Health Related Quality of Life.

AbstractUpper Carboniferous heating and melting of the middle orogenic crust associated with the emplacement of syntectonic granitoids are documented in the Upper Gneissic Unit of the Livradois area (central part of the French Massif Central). Crustal melting post-dates peak metamorphism conditions (800-625°C, 10-8 kb) dated at 360 ± 4 Ma (U-Th-Pb on monazite). The P-T evolution of the metamorphic series indicates that Barrovian metamorphism was followed by a decompression (from 10 ± 1 kbar to 6 ± 1 kbar) associated with either a decrease in temperature in the southern part of the series or with an increase in temperature (of about 150°C) in the northern part of the series. This evolution records the first step of the exhumation of the series coeval with granitoids intrusion, of which the emplacements were dated at 315 ± 4 and 311 ± 18 Ma (U-Pb on zircon). The final stage of the exhumation is associated with an isobaric cooling of the whole series. Similarity of 40Ar/39Ar ages for biotite in the paragneisses (307-300 Ma) and K-feldspar in the granitoids (306-300 Ma) document rapid cooling for this stage. Moreover dextral reverse mylonites, at the border and the northern part of the metamorphic series indicate north-south compression coeval with the unroofing of the series. Youngest 40Ar-39Ar ages on K-feldspar (274.6 ± 5 Ma) combined with normal shearing in mylonites limiting the Carboniferous Brassac-les-Mines basin document the late Carboniferous-early Permian stage of extension coeval with the upwelling of the Velay granitic dome.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a known predictor of unfavorable outcome in patients treated at the ICU, irrespective of the disease. However, data on the potential influence of serum creatinine (sCr) on hospital admission on the outcome in patients suffering from aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is scarce. A total of 369 consecutive patients suffering from SAH were included in this retrospective cohort study. Patients were divided into good-grade (WFNS I–III) versus poor-grade (WFNS IV–V). Outcome was assessed according to the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) after 6 months and stratified into favorable (mRS 0–2) versus unfavorable (mRS 3–6). SAH patients with sCr levels <1.0 mg/dL achieved significantly a favorable outcome more often compared to patients with sCr levels ≥1.0 mg/dL (p = 0.003). In the multivariable analysis, higher levels of sCr (p = 0.014, OR 2.4; 95% CI 1.2–4.7), poor-grade on admission (p < 0.001, OR 9.8; 95% CI 5.6–17.2), age over 65 years (p < 0.001, OR 3.3; 95% CI 1.7–6.1), and delayed cerebral ischemia (p < 0.001, OR 7.9; 95% CI 3.7–17.1) were independently associated with an unfavorable outcome. We identified increased sCr on admission as a predictor for unfavorable functional outcome after SAH. Further studies elucidating the pathophysiology of this association are necessary.

Abstract The acetic acid bacterium (AAB) Gluconobacter oxydans incompletely oxidizes a wide variety of carbohydrates and is therefore used industrially for oxidative biotransformations. For G. oxydans, no system was available that allows regulatable plasmid-based expression. We found that the l-arabinose-inducible PBAD promoter and the transcriptional regulator AraC from Escherichia coli MC4100 performed very well in G. oxydans. The respective pBBR1-based plasmids showed very low basal expression of the reporters β-glucuronidase and mNeonGreen, up to 480-fold induction with 1% l-arabinose, and tunability from 0.1 to 1% l-arabinose. In G. oxydans 621H, l-arabinose was oxidized by the membrane-bound glucose dehydrogenase, which is absent in the multi-deletion strain BP.6. Nevertheless, AraC-PBAD performed similar in both strains in the exponential phase, indicating that a gene knockout is not required for application of AraC-PBAD in wild-type G. oxydans strains. However, the oxidation product arabinonic acid strongly contributed to the acidification of the growth medium in 621H cultures during the stationary phase, which resulted in drastically decreased reporter activities in 621H (pH 3.3) but not in BP.6 cultures (pH 4.4). These activities could be strongly increased quickly solely by incubating stationary cells in d-mannitol-free medium adjusted to pH 6, indicating that the reporters were hardly degraded yet rather became inactive. In a pH-controlled bioreactor, these reporter activities remained high in the stationary phase (pH 6). Finally, we created a multiple cloning vector with araC-PBAD based on pBBR1MCS-5. Together, we demonstrated superior functionality and good tunability of an AraC-PBAD system in G. oxydans that could possibly also be used in other AAB. Key points • We found the AraC-PBADsystem from E. coli MC4100 was well tunable in G. oxydans. • In the absence of AraC orl-arabinose, expression from PBADwas extremely low. • This araC-PBADsystem could also be fully functional in other acetic acid bacteria.

Lattice parameters for four Cu–Si alloys containing 2.2, 4.3, 6.4 and 8.7 at.% Si in the solid-solution range have been calculated in the temperature range 303–928 K. The lattice parameters increase slowly in a nonlinear manner with rise in temperature. The calculated linear thermal-expansion coefficients (α) at room temperature increase with increasing solute concentration (Si) but decrease almost linearly with increasing temperature, the rate of decrease being higher for alloys with higher solute concentration. All the alloys have almost the same average α value (α av ~ 16.0 × 10−6 K−1), which is the value of α at the temperature interval 615–625 K for all the alloy compositions.

6121 Background: Efficiency of clinical trials may be improved by stratifying according to competing event risk. We aimed to test whether effect and sample size estimates would be altered when adjusting for competing event risk, using data from the SWOG 8794 trial of adjuvant radiation therapy (RT) for high-risk post-operative prostate cancer. Methods: The primary outcome was metastasis-free survival (MFS), defined as time to first occurrence of metastasis or death from any cause (i.e., competing mortality (CM)). We developed separate risk scores for time to metastasis and CM using backward stepwise competing risks regression. Risk factors for metastasis were PSA, Gleason score, and seminal vesicle invasion, and for CM were age, performance status, and Charlson comorbidity index. Treatment effects were estimated using Cox models adjusted for risk scores. We identified an enriched subgroup of 75 patients at high risk of metastasis and low risk of CM, based on risk score cutoffs. Sample size estimates assumed type I and II error of 0.10 and 0.20, and accrual and follow-up times of 6 and 6 years. Results: The mean CM risk score was significantly lower in the RT vs. control arm (p=0.001). The effect of RT on MFS (HR 0.70; 95% CI, 0.53-0.92; p=0.010) was attenuated when controlling for metastasis and CM risk (HR 0.76; 95% CI, 0.58-1.00; p=0.049). The hazard for CM was reduced by RT (HR 0.82; 95% CI, 0.59-1.14; p=0.24), but this effect was attenuated when controlling for CM risk (HR 0.94; 95% CI, 0.67-1.31; p=0.71). In contrast, there was no difference in the adjusted and unadjusted HRs for metastasis (0.50; 95% CI, 0.31-0.81; p=0.005 and 0.49; 95% CI, 0.30-0.81; p=0.005). Compared to the whole cohort, the enriched subgroup had the same baseline 10-year incidence of MFS (40%; 95% CI 22-57%), but a higher incidence of metastasis (30% (95% CI, 15-47%) vs. 20% (95% CI, 15-26%)). A randomized trial in an enriched population could have achieved 80% power with 44% less patients (313 vs. 709 patients, respectively), due to the differing event composition. Conclusions: Stratification based on competing event risk may improve the design and efficiency of clinical trials. These findings should be externally validated.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between attitudes towards physical activity and self-esteem of high school students. Three different scales were used on 626 adolescents in total who lived in Sivas, found by random sampling method. The first scale is “the Personal Information Scale” consisting of 6 items to determine the demographical characteristics of the participants; the second scale is “the Cognitive Behavioral Physical Activity Questionnaire (CBPA)”, which was developed by Schembre et al. (2015) and was adapted to Turkish by Eskiler et al. (2016) to determine the participants’ attitudes towards physical activity; and the last scale is “the Self-Esteem Scale” by Rosenberg (1965) and adapted to Turkish by Çuhadaroğlu (1985) to determine the levels of self-esteem of the participants. The study data was analyzed by SPSS 25 package software. The obtained data were represented as values of frequency (f), percentage (%), average (x-), and standard deviation (±). Pearson Correlation analysis was applied in order to determine the effect of physical activity attitudes on self-esteem. The age average of the participants was determined to be 16,28 (±0,97). The gender distribution was 312 females and 314 males, and the number of those who were participating in licensed sports was 336, and that of those who were not was 290. It was determined that there was a positive correlation between the participants’ attitude towards physical activity and their self-esteem. In conclusion, a positive correlation was found between the attitude towards physical activity and self-esteem. In the study, it was suggested that the tendencies towards physical activity should be protected.

PurposeThis study evaluated whether the combination of the synthetic rexinoid bexarotene with first-line cisplatin/vinorelbine therapy provides additional survival benefit in patients with advanced non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Patients and MethodsPatients with stage IIIB with pleural effusion or stage IV NSCLC and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0 to 1 were randomly assigned to open-label bexarotene 400 mg/m2/d with cisplatin/vinorelbine or to cisplatin/vinorelbine alone. Antilipid agents were initiated on or before day 1 in the bexarotene arm. Primary efficacy end point was overall survival. Primary, secondary and supportive efficacy analyses were conducted.ResultsA total of 623 patients (312 control, 311 bexarotene) were enrolled. Overall, no significant difference in survival occurred between the two treatment groups. However, an unplanned retrospective analysis showed that a subpopulation of bexarotene patients (n = 98 of 306) who experienced National Cancer Institute grade 3/4 hypertriglyceridemia had longer median survival compared with control patients (12.3 v 9.9 months; log-rank P = .08). Within that subgroup, those who benefited the most included males, smokers, those with stage IV disease, and those with a 6-month prior weight loss of 5% or more. Incidence, type and severity of grade 3/4 adverse events were comparable between arms, except for leukopenia (higher in chemotherapy arm) and hyperlipemia, hypothyroidism, dyspnea, and headache (higher in chemotherapy/bexarotene arm).ConclusionThe addition of bexarotene to first-line chemotherapy did not increase survival in patients with advanced NSCLC. However, a subgroup (32%) of bexarotene-treated patients developing high-grade hypertriglyceridemia appeared to have better survival (12.3 months) than controls; thus triglyceride response may be a biomarker of survival benefit with bexarotene.

Objective The main aim of this study was to assess prelacteal feeding practice and its determinant factors among mothers having children less than 6 months of age in Bure district, Northwest Ethiopia. Design Community-based cross-sectional study design. Setting Northern Ethiopia. Participants The present study was conducted among 621 mothers who had children less than 6 months of age in Bure district, Northwest Ethiopia, from 1 March 2019 to 30 March 2019. Primary outcome Mothers prelacteal feeding practice, modelled using multivariable logistic regression. Secondary outcome Determinant factors of prelacteal feeding practice. Results This study found that the prevalence of prelacteal feeding practice was 11.6% ((95% CI 9.0% to 14.2%)). Delayed initiation of breast feeding (adjusted OR, AOR=5.4, 95% CI 2.2 to 13.5), mothers who did not get counselling of breast feeding (AOR=2.9, 95% CI 1.2 to 7.2), home delivery (AOR=6.9, 95% CI 2.2 to 21.5), primiparous mothers (AOR=4.1, 95% CI 1.4 to 12.2), a newborn with history of neonatal illness (AOR=3.3, 95% CI 1.3 to 8.5) and lack of postnatal care visits (AOR=3.9, 95% CI 1.3 to 11.8) were determinant factors of prelacteal feeding practice. Conclusions Delayed initiation of breast feeding, mothers who did not get counselling of breast feeding, home delivery, primiparous mothers, newborns with a history of neonatal illness and lack of postnatal care visits were determinant factors of prelacteal feeding practice. Therefore, healthcare workers should provide a home to home health education for mothers on the merits of early initiation of breast feeding, promote institutional delivery, enhance maternal health-seeking behaviour and encourage mothers to have postnatal care visits is recommended.

The relevance of this work lies in the lack of information in the scientific literature on the existence of differences between sow families in herds of laboratory mini-pigs. The study aims to establish whether or not there are differences between the reproductive traits of the sows of the mini-sows of IC&G SB RAS. The following criteria were selected as difference criteria: newborn piglet weight, piglet weight at one month of age, sow weight on day 5 after farrowing, number of piglets in the nest, and their survival from 0 to 30 and from 6 to 30 days of age. The study was based on the zootechnical record of the mini-pigs of the IGCC SB RAS (2013– 2020), which included information on 2315 newborn and 622-month-old piglets from 311 clutches of 135 sows of different ages. The genealogical structure of the herd is represented by three families: KB1902, KB1906, and KB1910. The study showed differences between all three families in terms of newborn piglet weight, as evidenced by the Kruskal-Wallis test (57.57***). The authors found no differences in the age composition of the sows, their multiple births, and the survival of the offspring. For piglet weight at one month of age and sow weight at day 5 post farrowing, establishing the validity of the differences must be further tested. The trait ranking showed that in the progeny of sows KB1902 and KB1906 the predominant sows had a live weight of 601–700g, but in the KB1910 family, the progeny had a live weight of 701–800g. The main reason for the differences between sow families in terms of largeness appears to be heredity.

Daily turnover of normal uric acid ranges from 498-1392 mg/day, miscible pool is 767-1650 mg, reabsorption is 8064 mg/day, renal excretion is 262-620 mg/day and intestine 186-313 mg/day. The dynamics of uric acid is influenced by factors of food, drink, age, history of disease, and genetic. High purine dietary consumption increases blood uric acid by 1-2 mg/dL, 213-290 g/day fructose drinks increases 0.52-1.7 mg/dL, 1.5 g/kgBW sucrose increases 0.61 mg/dL, and 10-20 ml/kgBW beer increases 0.50-0.92 mg/dL. The ABCG2 gene plays a role in bringing uric acid out of the body by 114.31-162.73 mg/dL, SLC2A9 of 5.43-20.17 mg/dL, and SLC22A12 of 5.77-6.71 mg/dL. The data described the homeostasis of uric acid and the magnitude of the impact of environmental (consumption of food, beverages, and lifestyle) and genetic factors. AbstractSmoking cessation method effectiveness is discussed among socially disadvantaged smokers. Our aim was to measure real-life effectiveness of the choice of a multi-component group intervention in comparison with individual usual care. We report an observational study (N = 100). Disadvantaged smokers were screened with a validated tool. We designed a multi-component structured behavioural group intervention, delivered in weekly group sessions during 6 weeks. Usual care consisted of individual visits. Both groups received free nicotine replacement therapy. We observed 33 smokers participating in the group intervention, while 67 received usual care. Abstinence at 6 weeks was 24.2% (n = 8) in the group intervention versus 11.9% (n = 8) in usual care (p = .115). Also, 36.4% (n = 12) of group intervention patients had reduced their cigarette consumption versus 16.4% (n = 11) in usual care (p = .026). In addition, 6.1% (n = 2) dropped out of group versus 31.3% (n = 21) in usual care (p = .005). Finally, 6 months after their first visit, 15.2% (n = 5) of group intervention patients and 4.5% (n = 3) in usual care were abstinent (p = .111). Group intervention choice versus usual care might facilitate smoking abstinence, reduction, and follow-up adherence.

Abstract Cathodoluminescence mapping is used as a contactless method to probe the electron concentration gradient of Te-doped GaAs nanowires. The room temperature and low temperature (10 K) cathodoluminescence analysis method previously developed for GaAs:Si is first validated on five GaAs:Te thin film samples, before extending it to the two GaAs:Te NW samples. We evidence an electron concentration gradient ranging from below 1 × 1018 cm−3 to 3.3 ×1018 cm−3 along the axis of a GaAs:Te nanowire grown at 640 °C, and a homogeneous electron concentration of around 6–8 × 1017 cm−3 along the axis of a GaAs:Te nanowire grown at 620 °C. The differences in the electron concentration levels and gradients between the two nanowires is attributed to different Te incorporation efficiencies by vapor–solid and vapor–liquid–solid processes.

Background: Azilsartan and olmesartan are members of ARBs, used in the management of hypertension. Objective was to evaluate efficacy of azilsartan with olmesartan in patients of hypertension. Methods: A randomized, prospective, open label, comparative study was carried out in Pharmacology and Medicine department at Dr. RPGMC Kangra at Tanda, HP. The study stretched over one year and blood pressure was monitored at first, third and sixth month. Out of 69 patients, 35 patients in group A were prescribed tablet azilsartan 40 mg/day and 34 patients in group B patients were prescribed tablet olmesartan 20 mg/day. Tablet chlorthalidone 12.5 mg/day was add on in both the groups. Data was presented as mean+SD. Student’s t test was used and p value <0.05 was considered significant. Results: In group A, systolic blood pressure (SBP) values improved from baseline of 153±10 mmHg to 111±18 mmHg (p<0.001) at 3 months and 109±6.1 mmHg (p<0.001) at 6 months and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) values from baseline of 87±7 mmHg to 67.1±4.6 mmHg (p<0.001) at 3 months and 67.6±2.5 mmHg (p < 0.001) at 6 months. In group B, SBP values improved from baseline of 154±8.5 mmHg to 127±3.6 mmHg (p<0.001) at 3 months and 123±4 mmHg (p<0.001) at 6 months and DBP values from baseline of 85±6.5mm Hg to 75.7±3.3 mmHg (p<0.001) at 3 months and 73±3.3 mmHg (p<0.001) at 6 months. On intergroup comparison improvement in hypertension was better in azilsartan group (p<0.001). Conclusions: The study concluded that azilsartan is significantly better than olmesartan in controlling the hypertension.

Abstract There is growing evidence of molecular differences in prostate tumors by race or ancestry, which may contribute to the disproportionate burden of aggressive prostate cancer for African American men. Here we investigated whether RNA expression of 310 genes or non-coding RNAs that have shown differential expression (p&lt;0.05) in prostate tumors by race/ancestry in past studies were associated with prostate tumor aggressiveness among African American men. We accessed formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded prostate tumor tissue for 191 African American men with prostate cancer who underwent radical prostatectomy at the University of Maryland Medical Center from 1992-2021, as well as paired normal prostate tissue for a subset of the men (n=105). We generated RNA expression data using the ThermoFisher Human Clariom D array. Using Wilcoxon tests, we compared prostate tumor RNA expression by tumor aggressiveness (total Gleason score, GS, &gt;=7 vs. &lt;=6). The Benjamini-Hochberg False Discovery Rate approach was used to adjust for multiple comparisons. Of the 310 genes/non-coding RNAs, 110 were significantly associated with GS (p&lt;0.05), and 65 remained significant after multiple comparison adjustment (q&lt;0.05). Almost all (60/65) of the top findings tended to have lower expression in higher- vs. lower-grade tumors. There were several findings with q&lt;0.01, which included B-cell CLL/lymphoma 2 (BCL2; median and IQR for GS&lt;=6: 4.6, 4.3-4.8 and GS&gt;=7: 4.3, 4.0-4.5; p=9.90E-05; q=0.01) and zinc finger homeobox 3 (ZFHX3; median and IQR for GS&lt;=6: 4.0, 3.7-4.7 and GS&gt;=7: 3.7, 3.5-4.0; p=1.30E-04; q=0.01). Notably, both genes were found to have lower expression in prostate tumor tissue in African American men compared to European American men in previous studies. Therefore, the direction of our findings with GS (lower expression for higher-grade tumors) is consistent with a potential role of these genes in prostate cancer disparities. The genes that had higher expression in higher- vs. lower-grade tumors in our study included several genes that have shown higher expression in tumor tissue from African American men than European American men in previous studies. These included splicing factor 1 (SF1; median and IQR for GS&lt;=6: 3.5, 3.1-5.1 and GS&gt;=7: 4.6, 3.3-7.4; p=5.60E-03; q=0.04), uroplakin 3B-like (UPK3BL; median and IQR for GS&lt;=6: 6.1, 4.9-7.7 and GS&gt;=7: 7.4, 5.5-9.3; p=7.20E-03; q= 0.04), and RNA binding motif protein 6 (RBM6; median and IQR for GS&lt;=6: 9.6, 8.2-10.7 and GS&gt;=7: 10.3, 8.9-12.1; p=0.01; q=0.05). While replication is needed, these findings add to growing evidence that RNA expression differences in prostate tumors by race or ancestry may contribute to prostate tumor aggressiveness and prostate cancer disparities. Background:Hypospadias is associated with twinning. The incidence of hypospadias in monochorionic and dichorionic male twins is, however, yet to be determined.Methods:All medical records of monochorionic and dichorionic twins admitted to our neonatal nursery between January 2004 and August 2013 were reviewed for the presence of hypospadias.Results:A total of 350 monochorionic and 303 dichorionic male twins were included in the study. The incidence of hypospadias in monochorionic and dichorionic groups was 4% (14/350) and 1% (3/303) (p= .016) respectively. In 11 of the 15 twin couples, hypospadias occurred in the twin with the lowest birth weight. The rate of hypospadias in twin infants small-for-gestational-age group was 10% (6/60) compared with 2% (11/593) in the appropriate-for-gestational-age group (p= .002). In a multivariate analysis, both monochorionicity and small-for-gestational-age were independently associated with hypospadias, odds ratio 4.1 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.1–14.7) and 6.1 (95% CI: 2.2–17.2) respectively.Conclusions: The incidence of hypospadias is four-fold higher in monochorionic twins compared with dichorionic twins. Hypospadias is also independently associated with small-for-gestational-age.

Objective: To establish reference values for the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and 2-minute walk test (2MWT) distances, to investigate the correlation between these 2 tests, and to establish prediction equations for these distances in healthy populations of Belgium and Vietnam. Design: Cross-sectional study. Subjects and methods: The 6MWT and 2MWT were administered to a convenience sample of 239 Belgian and 303 Vietnamese participants between the ages of 18 and 80 years. Results: The mean (standard deviation; SD) 2MWT distances were 215 (32.8) m for Belgian participants and 156 (25.5) m for Vietnamese participants. The mean (SD) 6MWT distances were 625 (90.7) m for Belgian participants and 449 (70.4) m for Vietnamese participants. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the 2 tests was 0.901 (p < 0.001) for Belgian participants and 0.871 (p < 0.001) for Vietnamese participants. Age and sex were the 2 most important predictors of walking distance, followed by body mass index for Belgium and height for Vietnam. The adjusted R² ranged from 0.31 to 0.49 across 4 predictive equations. Conclusion: These results can be used to determine the presence of walking performance deficits and to guide future studies. The 2MWT is suggested as a useful and convenient alternative to the 6MWT for assessing walking performance in clinical practice.
