As a cognitive process, metaphorical reasoning is inevitable, but not necessarily innocent or neutral. It is well known that the conceptual domains of love and sex have received substantial attention within cognitive linguistics. However, a source domain that merits further exploration from a gender ideology perspective is that of the hunt. For this reason, following an approach that links cognitive linguistics with critical discourse analysis this article examines the conceptualisation of love, seduction and the search for a partner/husband through hunting metaphors, focusing on the discursiv

Abstract:
This thesis examines the growth of psychotherapy as a discipline in the Soviet Union between 1956 and 1985, looking at the types of treatment that existed in this period, the tasks that psychotherapy was to perform according to physicians who promoted it, and their efforts to establish it as a distinct medical speciality and popularise it within the Soviet healthcare system. It looks at how different challenges encountered by the promoters of psychotherapy influenced its practice and the discourse around it, and how it was shaped by a broader political, social and cultural context of the USSR.

The inversion of seismo-volcanic events is performed to retrieve the source geometry and to determine volumetric budgets of the source. Such observations have shown to be an important tool for the seismological monitoring of volcanoes. We developed a novel technique for the non-linear constrained inversion of low frequency seismo-volcanic events. Unconstrained linear inversion methods work well when a dense network of broadband seismometers is available. The aim of this research project was to devise a viable synthetic route to perfluoropolyethers. Current commercial processes are elaborate but inefficient and hence are limited in application by cost. The approach undertaken in this project consisted of essentially two steps; (1) the free radical addition of a polyether to a fluorinated olefin and (2) the direct fluorination of the polyadducts derived from the addition process (scheme i) (Rf = polyfluoroalkyl, Rf(^1) = perfluoroalkyl) The research work was carried out in two phases. In the last decade the near-surface mounted (NSM) strengthening technique using carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP) has been increasingly used to improve the load carrying capacity of concrete members. Compared to externally bonded reinforcement (EBR), the NSM system presents considerable advantages. This technique consists in the insertion of carbon fibre reinforced polymer laminate strips into pre-cut slits opened in the concrete cover of the elements to be strengthened. CFRP reinforcement is bonded to concrete with an appropriate groove filler, typically epoxy adhesive or cement grout.
