<p dir="RTL">إن الفيديو التفاعلى من الاتجاهات الحديثة لتكنولوجيا التعليم باعتباره أهم وأحدث أدوات التعليم. ويمكن أن يستخدمه كوسيلة لتعليم أي مادة من مواد اللغة العربية في الجامعة منها الخط العربي. وفي قسم إدارة التربية الإسلامية بجامعة رادين إينتان الإسلامية الحكومية لامبونج يعلم فيه الخط العربي لدى الطلبة في الفصل الرابع بصفاته المادة الواجبة, ويعلم معلم الخط العربي احيانا باستخدم السبورة الطباشيرية في تعليمه وكذالك يستخدم التكنولوحيا مثل فور فوين ولم يسنخدم الفيديو التفاعلي في تعليمه. وهدف هذا البحث هو معرفة فعالية استخدام الفيديو التفاعلى في تعليم الخط العربي لطلاب هذه الجامعة. واستخدم هذا البحث المنهج التجريبي بتصميم المجموعتين وبالمدخل الكمي. وأما البيانات التي أخذها الكاتب في هذا البحث هي نتيجة الاختبار القبلي والبعدي لهتين المجموعتين. ونتيجة المعادلة ( 70،70) أي على الدرجة "جيد " التي حصل الطلبة عليها أكبر وأعلى من نتيجة المعيارية ( 70،00 ) التي قرر الكاتب عليها تدل على أن هذا الفيديوا فعال. ودرجة فعاليته بالمقارنة بين نتيجة الاختبار القبلي (57،56 ) والاختبار البعدي (70،70). وأما نتيجة الفرق بينهما (13،14 ) فهي تدل على أن وسيلة الفيديو لها درجة فعالية. وبعبارة أخرى، أن استخدام الفيديو التفاعلي يؤثر جوهريا في تحسين كتابة الطلبة.</p><p dir="RTL"> </p><p>The interactive video from the modern trends of education technology as the most important and latest tools of education. And can be used as a means to teach any material of the Arabic language at the university, including Arabic calligraphy. In the Department of Islamic Education Department at Radin Intan Islamic State University Lampung teaches Arabic calligraphy to students in the fourth grade in terms of the subject matter. The Arabic calligraphy teacher is sometimes taught using the chalkboard in his teaching, as well as using the technology like Fur Fuen and we do not use interactive video in his education. The aim of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using interactive video in teaching Arabic calligraphy to students of this university. This research used the experimental approach in the design of both groups and quantitative input. The data taken by the author in this study are the result of the tribal and post-test of the two groups. As a result of the equation (70,70), that is, on the "good" score, which the students obtained higher and higher than the standard result (70.00), which the writer decided to indicate that this video is effective. (57.56) and post-test (70.70). The result of the difference between them (13,14) indicates that the video method has an effective degree. In other words, the use of interactive video fundamentally affects the improvement of student writing.</p>

Ganitri (Elaeocarpus sphaericus (Gaertn.) K. Schum.) adalah pohon cepat tumbuh yang banyak ditemukan di Sukabumi. Kayu ini tumbuh di hampir semua wilayah Indonesia. Tulisan ini menyajikan hasil pengujian sifat dasar (struktur anatomi, kimia, sifat fisis dan mekanis) kayu ganitri yang diambil dari hutan rakyat di daerah Sukabumi. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui potensi penggunan kayu ganitri berdasarkan sifat dasar dan penggunaan kayu oleh masyarakat sekitar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kayu ganitri memiliki kayu teras berwarna kuning dan kayu gubal berwarna putih. Corak kayu polos dan tekstur halus. Arah serat lurus sampai berpadu, kayu lunak, tidak mengkilap, dan tidak berbau. Berdasarkan nilai dimensi serat dan nilai turunannya, kayu ganitri termasuk ke dalam Kelas Mutu II. Kayu ganitri memiliki kadar holoselulosa dan selulosa yang tinggi (70,70% dan 54,58%), kadar sedang untuk lignin 21,60%, ekstraktif alkohol-benzena 3,47%, dan kadar abu 0,81%. Dengan berat jenis (BJ) kering udara 0,35 kayu ganitri termasuk ke dalam Kelas Kuat IV. Kayu tersebut disarankan untuk digunakan sebagai bahan bangunan konstruksi ringan, perkakas, furnitur, kayu lapis, papan sambung dan produk panel. Basic Properties of Ganitri Wood (Elaeocarpus sphaericus (Gaertn.) K. Schum from Sukabumi and Its Potential UsesAbsractGanitri (Elaeocarpus sphaericus (Gaertn.) K. Schum.) is a fastgrowing tree that is widely found in Sukabumi, West Java. It grows in all part of Indonesia. A research was carried out to investigate basic properties (anatomical, physical, mechanical, and chemical) of ganitri wood from the community forest of Sukabumi. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential use of ganitri wood based on its basic properties and local utilization. The results showed that the color of ganitri sapwood was white , and it was not clearly demarcated from the yellow, with fewer figure patterns. The texture was fine with straight to interlocked grain. The wood was soft, not lustrous, and no special odor. Based on the fibre dimensions and derivative values, the quality of ganitri wood fell in Class II as a raw material for pulp and paper. Ganitri had high holocellulose and cellulose levels (70.70% and 54.58%), moderate level in lignin (21.60%), and it contained 3.47% extractive soluble in alcohol-benzene, and 0.81% ash. Based on its air dry specific gravity (0,35), ganitri wood could be classified into wood Strength Class IV. The potential uses of ganitri are for lightweight construction material, tools, furniture, plywood, connecting boards, and other panel products.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini merupakan suatu penelitian tindakan kelas yang berkolaborasi dengan guru matematika di sekolah sehingga tujuan penelitian adalah untuk memperbaiki proses pembelajaran sehingga memiliki dampak pada upaya peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kelas VIIc MTs Diniyah Puteri Pekanbaru. Secara teoritis dipilihlah suatu proses pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan masalah di kelas tersebut adalah Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) sebagai penerapannya. Pada penelitian ini didesain dengan menerapkan pendekatan PMRI berdasarkan karakteristik PMRI. Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua siklus untuk memperbaiki proses pembelajaran dan melihat kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dengan menggunakan lembar pengamatan pada siklus 1 dan siklus 2 maka terjadi perbaikan proses pembelajaran yang terlihat dari kegiatan aktifan siswa dalam belajar, bekerja sama, rasa ingin tahu , diskusi dan memberikan respon pada presentasi kelompok. Selanjutnya jika ditinjau tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa maka diperoleh rata-rata 63.15 dengan ketuntasan sebanyak 11 siswa sedangkan pada siklus II memperoleh rata-rata 70,70 dengan ketuntasan sebanyak 15 siswa. Secara klasikal terjadi peningkatan ketuntasan sebanyak 4 orang dari siklus 1 ke siklus 2 maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan PMRI dapat memperbaiki proses pembelajaran dan meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kelas VIIc MTs Diniyah Puteri Pekanbaru.ABSTRACTThis research is a classroom action research in collaboration with schools mathematics teachers so that the purpose of research is to improve the learning process so as to have an impact on improving the students' mathematical problem solving ability VIIc grade MTs Diniyah Puteri Pekanbaru. Theoretically chosen a learning process that is appropriate to the problem in the class is Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) as its application. In this study was designed to implement an approach based on the characteristics PMRI. The study consisted of two cycles to improve the learning process and see the students' mathematical problem solving ability. Based on the analysis of data using observation sheet in cycle 1 and cycle 2, the improvements were visible learning process of the students in learning activities, working together, curiosity, discussion and responses to the group presentation. Furthermore, if the review test students' mathematical problem solving ability then gained an average of 63.15 with a mastery of as many as 11 students while in the second cycle obtain an average of 70.70 with a mastery of as many as 15 students. Traditionally an increase of completeness of 4 people from cycle 1 to cycle 2 it could be concluded that PMRI approach could improve the learning process and improve students' mathematical problem solving ability class VIIc MTs Diniyah Puteri Pekanbaru.

Abstract:
En Afrique, notamment dans les zones rurales, la modicité des moyens de subsistance prédispose les populations à se détourner des médicaments modernes onéreux et souvent inaccessibles. Le coût et la disponibilité de ces principes actifs modernes les rendent quasiment, hors de portée d’une grande majorité des populations. La phytothérapie à base d'extraits de plantes est une pratique courante dans la médecine traditionnelle africaine. C’est dans ce cadre que s’inscrit ce travail, dont l’objectif était de lister les vertus thérapeutiques et alimentaires d’Annona senegalensis. Ainsi, une étude ethnobotanique, sous forme d’un questionnaire, a été menée dans quatre (4) régions du Sénégal à la fin de l’hivernage 2020. Les résultats ont montré que les feuilles sont les plus sollicitées (70,70%), suivies de la tige pour 47,80% des personnes interrogées. Ces organes sont utilisés essentiellement dans le traitement de maladies diverses telles que : les maux de tête (75,70%), la diarrhée (70,20%), les maux de ventre (51,20% et la dysenterie 40,00%. La macération (75,50%), la décoction (46,20%) et la pulvérisation (20,10%) sont les modes de préparation les plus fréquents. Les fruits ovoïdes sphériques jusqu’à 4 cm de diamètre, jaune orangé à maturité, avec une pulpe jaunâtre, sucrée sont consommés dans 94,2% des cas, mais ne font l’objet d’aucune transformation. Les graines, de 8 à 11mm de diamètre, ne sont pas consommées au Sénégal. Ces résultats constituent un apport dans la mise en place de données ethnobotaniques sur Annona senegalensis qui devraient mener vers des investigations phytochimiques et pharmacologiques. In Africa, especially in rural areas low livelihoods predispose people to turn away from expensive and often inaccessible modern drugs. The cost and the availability of these modern active substances make them almost beyond the reach of a large majority of populations. Phytotherapy based on plant extracts is a common practice in traditional African medicine. It is in this context that this work fits, the objective of which, was to list the therapeutic and nutritional virtues of Annona senegalensis. Thus, an ethnobotanical study in the form of a questionnaire was carried out in four (4) regions of Senegal at the end of the 2020 rainy season. The results showed that the leaves are the most solicited (70.70%), followed by the stem for 47.80% of respondents. These organs are used mainly in the treatment of various diseases such as: headaches (75.70%), diarrhea (70.20%), stomach aches (51.20% and dysentery 40%. Maceration (75.5%), decoction (46.2%) and pulverization (20.10%) are the most frequent methods of preparation. Spherical ovoid fruits up to 4 cm in diameter, orange-yellow when ripe, with a yellowish, sweet pulp are consumed in 94.20% of cases, but are not processed. The seeds, 8 to 11 mm in diameter, are not consumed in Senegal. These results constitute a contribution to the establishment of ethnobotanical data on Annona senegalensis which should lead to phytochemical and pharmacological investigations.

Abstract:
This thesis explores formative assessment and feedback in China. The study examined how Chinese students at a university in China experienced different feedback types from their Chinese instructors, and what their attitudes towards those were. A mixed-methods approach, using a self-administered, electronically distributed questionnaire and a semi-structured, one-on-one, face-to-face interview, was employed to this end. A total of 232 students – mostly undergraduates – took part, each of whom completed the questionnaire and 30 of whom were interviewed. A large number of students conveyed an awareness of the formative potential of feedback as well as an expectation towards it playing this role, primarily in terms of learning improvement and being psychologically supportive. Marks and grades were shown to play a dominating and not always unsupportive role. The majority of participants reported overall positive effects of the feedback they were given on aspects of their learning and psychology. However, many felt the feedback they received to be qualitatively as well as quantitatively insufficient. The study aimed to shed light on a research area and geographical context where accounts in English from a Western perspective are limited. The overarching conclusion of the study’s findings is that there appears to be significant convergence between scholars’ and Chinese students’ expectations of effective feedback. A key recommendation for future research is to conduct further studies into students’ perceptions of feedback in non-Western contexts.

Abstract:
The work aims to demonstrate that at the heart of Eriugena’s approach to Christian theology there lies a profoundly philosophical interest in the necessity of a cardinal shift in the paradigms of thinking – namely, that from the metaphysical to the dialectical one, which wins him a reputation of the ‘Hegel of the ninth century,’ as scholars in Post-Hegelian Germany called him. The prime concern of Eriugena’s discourse is to prove that the actual adoption of the salvific truth of Christ’s revelation about all humans’ Sonship to God (resulting in their return to union with Him) directly depends on the way the truth of God’s Oneness is consistently thought of. It is exactly the dialectic of the universal and particular which allows Eriugena both to tackle the dichotomy between being and non-being (called by him the fundamental division) and to proceed towards raising a question how the totality of God’s being can be approached so as to let him radically reconsider a predominantly metaphysical view of creation the theological reflection traditionally relies on. According to the dialectical understanding of unity (with a strong appeal to a dialectically coherent treatment of contradiction) that Eriugena does adhere to, the reality of creation cannot be thought of, and therefore known, otherwise than in the way of being inseparable from the universal Principle of all. This is the Principle abandoned by nothing, unless the mind corrupted by the senses thinks otherwise and, following the metaphysical pattern of dichotomy (as that of the fundamental division), improperly sets the creation and its Principle apart. Restoration of the mind to the proper rational motion of recta ratio (right reason) freed, as Eriugena argues, from the dictates of senses therefore becomes the way of both the epistemological breakthrough to the infinite whole and practical return (reditus) from the world of finite things (the corrupt mind’s construct) to living in the divine reality of creation. The work’s argument is based on the assumption of close affinity between Eriugena’s discourse and that of his Islamic contemporaries (Allaf, al-Nazzam, al-Kindi, and others), who developed their dialectical ideas within the Mu’tazilah tradition of a philosophically disciplined approach to the truth of God’s Oneness. In particular, al-Nazzam’s engagement with Parmenides’ Periphyseon and his resistance to the danger of a dualistic interpretation of its ontology seem to provoke Eriugena’s innovative approach to Christian theology with a view to suggesting a mode of overcoming dualism as the main obstacle on the way to the Truth revealed. This vision of the meaning of Eriugena’s undertaking allows us not only to better understand the novelty of his approach to Christian theology, but also reconsider some of the key points of his discourse that seem to have become a sort of commonplace in Eriugenian studies: 1. Unlike the prevalent opinion, not the forms of the division of Nature but the modes of interpreting being and non-being are to be understood to constitute the genuine subject-matter of each book of the Periphyseon and, hence, of the five parts of his system. 2. The fourfold division of Nature is to be interpreted not as a basic structure of the system offered by Eriugena, but as a means of introducing dialectic to the body of theology by refuting Augustine’s metaphysical vision of a hierarchical model of the universe and indicating the way of resolution of the cardinally theological contradiction – God does and does not create at the same time. 3. All this gives reason to disagree with a general tendency of associating Eriugena’s work with exploration of the division of God’s Nature and to reinterpret it as an immense anti-division project to be understood as an important turn in the history of Christian thought entirely focused on the truth of God’s Oneness and human life in conformity to it. *** I affirm that this thesis is entirely my own work and has not been submitted for examination in any form elsewhere.

La ricerca affronta il rapporto tra il Partito comunista italiano e le organizzazioni della sinistra extraparlamentare nate nel biennio 1968-1969. Sulla base di documentazione d’archivio e fonti a stampa, vengono ricostruite ed analizzate le relazioni tra questi due soggetti nel periodo compreso tra la fine degli anni Sessanta e la metà del decennio successivo, quando i principali gruppi politici della sinistra extraparlamentare si dotarono di una struttura organizzativa più stabile che segnava una discontinuità con l’esperienza precedente. Nel corso della prima metà degli anni Settanta, i rapporti tra il PCI e queste organizzazioni furono complessi e talvolta contraddittori. Il conflitto si consumò prevalentemente sulla reciproca pretesa di possedere l’esclusiva rappresentanza politica del fermento sociale che attraversava il paese in quegli anni: il PCI rappresentando se stesso come l’unica forza politica capace di mediare tra movimenti sociali e istituzioni; i gruppi della sinistra parlamentare come «avanguardie» di un irrealizzabile progetto «rivoluzionario».
The aim of the research is to reconstruct and interpret the relationship between the Italian Communist Party and the Radical Left-Wing Groups in Italy from 1969 to 1976. Based on researches in the archives of the Italian Communist Party, Ministry of Interior and small archives that conserve unpublished documents of the groups, the paper will focus on the constant attention and monitoring that the Italian Communist Party addressed to the extreme left groups and on how those political organizations have been changed their approach and strategy toward the PCI during this period. During the first half of the Seventies, the relationship between the PCI and these organizations were complex and sometimes contradictory. The conflict was consumed mainly on the mutual claim to possess the exclusive political representation of the social unrest that crossed the country in those years: the PCI representing himself as the only political force capable of mediating between social movements and institutions; the Radical Left-Wing Groups as «avant-garde» of a unfeasible «revolutionary» project.

Abstract:
Workplace based assessment (WPBA) was introduced into clinical radiology training in 2010. The purpose of the study was to investigate its implementation by addressing research questions concerning the assessments’ day-to-day realisation, the participants’ influence upon their enactment, and the utility of the process. The prior history of the introduction of WPBA into postgraduate medical training and the Royal College of Radiologists’ guidance regarding the assessments’ usage served as reference points for the study findings. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken with 20 radiologists (12 trainers, 8 trainees) in order to discover their opinions of the implementation and usage of WPBA in radiology. The interview data were subjected to thematic analysis in order to identify issues of importance to interviewees, address the research questions and suggest any means of improving the assessments. The analysis showed that most interviewees thought that WPBA had a formative purpose, as per central guidance, although some assessors felt it could be used summatively in certain circumstances. The day to day realisation of the assessments was subject to some variation, and although this might be seen as inevitable due to differing circumstances, there was evidence of both trainees and trainers manipulating the process to suit their own purposes. There was also evidence of some trainers frankly adapting the assessments’ usage depending upon trainees’ seniority or time in an attachment. Interviewees described various weaknesses of the process, including the peremptory nature of some assessments, failure to identify underperforming trainees and poor assessor preparedness when WPBA was introduced. Reference to published literature from other postgraduate medical specialties showed that many of these problems were generic in nature, rather than confined to radiology. Suggested means by which WPBA could be improved included joint trainee and trainer leadership of the process, better training of assessors and refinement of the assessments themselves.

The urban campus will not be an isolated enclave in the future. The quality and vitality of the campus will affect and be influenced by the character of the surrounding neighborhoods. Therefore, it is significant to enhance the relationship of the campus with the surrounding community to create a vital, diverse, and attractive environment. This thesis proposes transitional urban campus boundaries as a future form of the educational environment that contributes to shaping an attractive physical setting for the university, fostering neighborhood amenities and enhancing the relationship between them. The interpretation of this concept is explored through the design exercise in transforming MIT's campus boundaries into transitional boundaries. It addresses the potentials for future redevelopment and transit development as a revitalization mechanism. A series of relevant planning strategies and urban design guidelines will be set up to achieve the design goal. This study is a qualitative evaluation of the urban form that is best suited for a successful transitional boundary between city and campus.

Aquatic vegetation is commonly present in rivers in many forms. This thesis consists of two studies, which examine the flow structure around a patch of emergent, rigid vegetation in a laboratory channel. The vegetation patch is represented by an array of circular cylinders in a staggered arrangement. The first study investigates flow structure and deposition pattern associated with a long patch of vegetation located at the sidewall of a channel (i.e. a partially vegetated channel). Along the flow-parallel edge of the patch, a shear layer is formed due to the velocity difference between the open region and the vegetated region. Coherent vortices are formed via Kelvin-Helmholtz stability in the shear layer, which also induces an edge wave. Both the energetic vortices and the edge wave enhance the lateral mass transport. Particles were introduced to the flow in order to observe the patterns of net deposition within and around the patch. There are two sources of particle flux to the patch: the advection of particles across the upstream leading edge and the lateral dispersion of particles from the adjacent open channel. The relative contribution of these two supplies determines the spatial pattern of net deposition in the patch. A simple model was developed to find the empirical value of the lateral dispersion coefficient. Longitudinal and lateral length scales were found to determine the region where particles cannot be delivered and the net deposition is limited by particle-supply. In the second study, a circular patch of emergent model vegetation located in the middle of the channel was examined. Its diameter was smaller than the channel width. Velocity measurements and flow visualization were conducted to study the turbulent wake behind the patch. Compared to the wake behind a solid obstruction, the wake behind a patch of vegetation (i.e. a porous obstruction) is different. Because of its porosity, some of the flow can pass through the patch, so that directly downstream of the patch there is a region of steady stream-wise velocity with no transverse velocity. This region is called the steady wake and it is also observed from the flow visualization. Unlike the wake behind a solid obstruction, the formation of a von-Karman vortex street behind a porous obstruction is delayed until the end of the steady wake region. As the stem density decreases (i.e. the patch becomes sparser), the velocity deficit in the steady wake region decreases and the length of the steady wake increase.

Elle s'inscrit dans le cadre d'une plus vaste étude issue d'une Action concertée entre le Secrétariat aux aînés du ministère de la Famille (Famille-SA), le ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) et le Fonds de recherche du Québec-Société et culture (FRQSC). Cette plus vaste étude, qui vise à mettre en valeur les pratiques de bientraitance en milieux d'hébergement, s'arrime aux mesures 6, 8 et 50 prévues par le Plan d'action gouvernemental pour contrer la maltraitance envers les personnes ainées (PAM) 2017-2022. Privilégiant une approche qualitative pour notre étude, des entrevues individuelles semi-dirigées auprès de dix préposés aux bénéficiaires ont permis d'énoncer que, lorsqu'il est question de bientraitance, une attention particulière doit être portée aux relations interpersonnelles, aux savoir-être et aux savoir-faire. La bientraitance apparaît à la fois comme une disposition et une pratique qui s'appuie sur la capacité de "prendre soin" et l'adaptabilité. Si les participantes ont tendance à se responsabiliser et à individualiser cette notion, les résultats démontrent que le contexte culturel, qu'il soit organisationnel ou sociopolitique, influence considérablement la capacité à mettre en œuvre la bientraitance. Les préposés aux bénéficiaires disposeraient de savoirs suffisants, pourtant elles parviendraient difficilement à les mettre à profit en raison de leurs structures de travail. Selon la perspective théorique de l'éthique du care, la présence d'obstacles culturels, occasionnée par un manque de considération pour l'ensemble des métiers du "prendre soin", limiterait considérablement leurs pratiques. La recherche se conclue sur l'importance de mettre en valeur les métiers du care et réitère la nécessité pour le travailleur social d'encourager un vison "buttom-up" lors des prises de décisions portant sur la qualité de vie des personnes ainées hébergées.
This study highlights the involvement of beneficiaries' agents in the advent of good care practices in Quebec's nursing home. It is part of a larger study resulting from a concerted action between the Seniors Secretariat of the Ministry of Family (Famille-SA), the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture [Fund of Quebec-Society and Culture Research] (FRQSC). This larger study, which aims to highlight good care practices in nursing homes, ties in with measures 6, 8 and 50 of the Government Action Plan to Counter Elder Mistreatment (PAM) 2017-2022. Favoring a qualitative approach for our study, semi-directed individual interviews with ten beneficiaries' agents made it possible to state that when it comes to good care practices, special attention must be paid to interpersonal relations, interpersonal skills, and attitudes. Good care appears to be both a disposition and a practice that relies on the ability to "take care" and adaptability. If the participants tend to take responsibility for themselves and to individualize this notion, the results show that the cultural context, whether organizational or socio-political, considerably influences the level of treatment. The beneficiaries' agents would have sufficient knowledge, yet they would find it difficult to put this knowledge to good use because of their work structures. According to the theoretical perspective of the ethics of care, the presence of cultural obstacles, caused by a lack of consideration for all the "caring" professions, would considerably limit their practices. The research concludes on the importance of highlighting the care professions and reiterates the need for the social worker to encourage a "ground-up" vision when making decisions about the quality of life of elderly people in assisted accommodations.

User productivity is a key component of an integrated sustainable building design framework, as a consideration in addition to operating and construction costs associated with sustainable building practices. Research has shown that employee productivity increases as visible light levels rise in the workplace. Incorporating efficient lighting systems into sustainable building techniques can potentially increase user productivity while reducing electricity costs. This paper presents a single criterion approach that captures the trade-offs between costs, users, and current building standards. A model has been created to explore the feasible design space of a commercial workspace by populating a repository of both active and passive lighting components that can be accessed to generate various lighting designs. A genetic algorithm is used to optimize potential lighting choices in a given workspace, and allows the designer to explore Pareto optimal productivity solutions that best fit the desired application. The result is an optimal solution for a given workspace lighting configuration that captures user productivity while minimizing operating costs.

Abstract:
We propose a novel, high degree of freedom variable stiffness joint for use in a miniature snake-like robot for minimally invasive surgeries via granular jamming. By pulling granule filled membrane-columns under vacuum, the columns and joint stiffen as the granular matter begin to jam. In our experiments, we achieved a four-fold increase in stiffness, and the stiffness can be achieved while the columns are straight or bent. Current flexible manipulators in industrial and medical robotics have followed two dominating methods of actuation and stiffness control. The first method is the continuum manipulator, which utilizes tendons or rods to bend the manipulator in a continuous fashion. The second method is classified as the highly articulated robot, where the manipulator is comprised of multiple segments linked by motor-driven universal joints. Like the latter, our manipulator is highly articulated, however stiffness of each joint can be independently controlled by the granular jamming principle. This paper studies the effect of grain type and vacuum pressure for stiffness tuning. We found that granules with a matte surface were able to achieve higher stiffnesses, with a cube shape exhibiting the highest stiffness, but at the cost of high levels of hysteresis.

The aim of this paper is to define a process to expand the overall reachable workspace of the 5R mechanism and to conduct feasible path planning between configurations within that space, even in cases where the initial and final configurations exist in different modes. It is known that if a mechanism has multiple working modes, there is a unique workspace for each configuration, and they are often only partially connected to each other in a complex manner. Serial singularities allow the mechanism to remain stiff and controllable. These regions are utilised to link disconnected workspaces to maximise the overall reachable workspace to form the global workspace road map. This paper focuses on the 2-DOF path planning of the 5R planar mechanism. A generalised method for analysing complex workspaces of parallel mechanisms is proposed, the rotary disk search for finding the connected reachable workspace, a strategy for global path finding by analysing the global workspace road map and local path generation are discussed.

Level set topology optimization defines the solution using the level set function values stored at the nodes of a regular finite element grid. These values represent a signed distance function which indicates the distance from each node to the structural boundaries. During optimization, nodal sensitivities are used to update the level set function values, moving the boundaries to create a more optimal structure. This paper presents two applications of the 3D level set topology optimization procedure aiming to minimize structural compliance subject to a volume constraint. The first application is the internal structure of a light subsonic aircraft wing. The results suggest that an alternative arrangement of ribs and sparse may be a more optimal solution for wing structures. The second application is the internal trabecular bone structure of an os-calcis. Comparison of the modeled optimal structure and the real internal structure suggest the internal bone structure is mechanically optimal.

In this work, the effect of nonlinear damping in presence of geometric nonlinearities and magnetic stiffness nonlinearities in vibration isolation system is investigated. The dynamic behavior of the isolation system design is modeled. Harmonic Balance Method (HBM) is used to investigate the dynamic behavior of the vibration isolation system in response to sinusoidal input waveform. Results obtained using the HBM are compared to the results from numerical simulation attained using Runge-kutta method. Results show that introducing nonlinear viscous damping into the vibration isolation system suppresses frequency jump phenomena observed in Duffing-type vibration isolation systems. Additionally, results show that nonlinear damping can suppress transmissibility around resonant peak. For frequencies lower than resonant frequency the effect of nonlinear damping is minimum compared to a linear isolation system. Beyond resonant frequency higher nonlinear damping may slightly alter transmissibility of the isolation system.

Owing to the exceptional low thermal conductivity, Si/Ge superlattices becomes an attractive thermoelectric material to convert thermal energy into electric power. The heat conduction process in Si/Ge superlattices is studied by employing the molecular dynamics (MD) simulation in this paper. For the purpose of investigating the role of Si and Ge interface to the contribution of overall thermal conductivity reduction in Si/Ge superlattices, convergent and divergent cone nanostructures are designed as interfaces between Si layer and Ge layer. By keeping fixed temperature difference between the left and right sides of Si/Ge superlattices with constant length, the spatial distribution of temperature and temporal evolution of heat flux flowing through Si/Ge superlattices are calculated. Comparing with the Si/Ge superlattices with even interface, the nanostructured interface contributes to impede the heat conduction between Si and Ge atoms. Si/Ge superlattices with divergent cone interface presents the most excellent performance among all the simulated cases. The design of nanostructured interface paves a promising path to enhance the efficiency of Si/Ge thermoelectric material.

The 1-D model of the KTM SI engine built for simulations in Ricardo Wave software is validated with 98% accuracy against experimental test results. The performance parameters thus obtained, as a combined effect, show an average improvement of 7.02% throughout the engine’s speed range. With the co-existence of variable length intake runners and variable intake valve opening timing, the required number of variations to boost the engine performance are found to be reduced making variable intake assembly more feasible.

Abstract:
To analyze the fire behavior in the dynamic pressure environment, a series of n-heptane pool fire experiments were conducted in an 8.11m × 4.16m × 1.67m simulated aircraft cargo compartment. The compartment is capable of mimicking flight environment from taking off to landing of the aircraft according to the standards of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by a pressure control system. Pool fires with 30cm diameter were tested under the dynamic pressure from 101kPa to 45kPa with various depressurization rates of 10kPa/min, 15kPa/min, 20kPa/min and 25kPa/min. Fire behavior such as burning rate, oscillation frequency and flame temperature were analyzed. The results revealed that the dynamic pressure influences the burning rate not only during the depressurization stage but also after depressurization. The oscillation frequency increases with the pressure decrease but has no relationship with depressurization rate. The flame temperature at different heights shows various tendencies with pressure.
