Abstract Objective : We describe the Mayo Clinic experience in 797 newly-diagnosed patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) serially treated with 7+3 induction chemotherapy that included 3 days of daunorubicin at a daily dose of 60 mg/m2 (dauno-60; n=239) or 90 mg/m2 (dauno-90; n=52), or idarubicin 12 mg/m2 (IDA-12; n=506). Our objective was to compare overall (OS) and relapse-free (RFS) survival outcome. Methods : Newly-diagnosed AML patients seen at our institution and received intensive induction chemotherapy were identified from the Mayo Clinic AML database. Treatment period spanned from

Abstract Background: The PTLD-1 trial has demonstrated the efficacy and safety of 4 cycles of weekly rituximab followed by 4 cycles of CHOP-21 + G-CSF in CD20-positive PTLD after solid organ transplantation. Median overall survival (OS) was 6.6 years, a clear improvement over the preceding rituximab monotherapy trials (2.4 years). However, response to rituximab induction predicted OS after completion of therapy. Based on the hypothesis that rituximab consolidation might be sufficient treatment for patients already in a complete response (CR) after rituximab induction, trial treatment was chang

Climate change induced sea-level rise (SLR) is on its increase globally. Regionally the lowlands of China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and islands of the Malaysian, Indonesian and Philippine archipelagos are among the world’s most threatened regions. Sea-level rise has major impacts on the ecosystems and society. It threatens coastal populations, economic activities, and fragile ecosystems as mangroves, coastal salt-marches and wetlands. This paper provides a summary of the current state of knowledge of sea level-rise and its effects on both human and natural ecosystems. The focus is on coastal urban

Abstract Background Despite preventive measures, ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) persists as the most frequent healthcare-associated infection in intensive care units (ICUs),1 with high incidence and mortality rates.2,3 Here, we wanted to study the incidence of VAP in 192 Italian ICUs in the last decade. Secondly, we wanted to describe the clinical and microbiological characteristics. Finally, we wanted to assess the variables associated with their intra-ICU mortality. Methods In this multicentric observational study, data from 192 Italian ICUs were retrieved from the PROSAFE project, a
