Abstract:

Abstract:
Radio over fiber (RoF) system with the coherent detection offers high linearity for the transparent transport of high-frequency microwave signals, and better receiver sensitivity compared with intensity-modulated direct detection systems. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the performance of digital modulation for coherent detection of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme on RoF system at 10 Gbps up to 100 km fiber length. The results show that coherent detection of OFDM-RoF system with 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) has the value of bit error rate (BER) and the symbol error rate (SER) is very low and its constellation is better compared with other modulation formats (4-QAM, quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8-PSK and 16-PSK), which BER 16-QAM is 0.053 and SER is 15.7%. The results also show that BER value of 4-QAM and QPSK relatively similar to fiber length variations. In general, an increasing value of the BER and SER for each modulation format are almost equal to the fiber length of 60-70 km (Region I and II). However, there is a significant increase in the value of BER in fiber length of 80-100 km (Region III. A and III. B) for the modulation of 4-QAM, QPSK, 8-PSK, and 16-PSK.

Abstract:
High-order modulations are necessary to improve the bandwidth efficiency of the satellite communication system. However, the non-linear characteristic of satellite channels limits the application of high-order modulations. In this paper, we propose a new 7-point constellation which is expected to be effectively applied to the satellite communication system, and combine it with non-binary low-density parity-check (NB-LDPC) codes over Galois field GF(7) to guarantee the reliability of the data transmission. The exact expression for the average symbol error probability (SEP) of 7-order quadrature amplitude modulation (7-QAM) over the Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel is derived, and the non-linear distortion over satellite channels is also analyzed. Simulation results reveal that, compared with the traditional 8-order phase-shift keying (8-PSK), the 7-QAM method can achieve about 3 dB gain over the AWGN channel without channel coding at symbol error rate (SER) of 10 - 6 . Moreover, the proposed combined coded modulation scheme also has better SER performance than the NB-LDPC coded 8-PSK modulation scheme over the non-linear satellite channel.

Abstract:
An all-optical comparator is desirable to realize large-capacity, fully-transparent, and energy-efficient communication systems, as it is considered to be a fundamental component to perform most of the operations, including packet switching, label recognition, error detection and correction, and so on. However, most of the previous studies have been confined to the on–off keying (OOK) modulation format, not phase-shift keying (PSK) modulation. In this paper, the author provides a novel optical comparator designed for quadrature PSK (QPSK)-modulated signal, which comprises a code word with 8-bit length, using a serially-cascaded delay line interferometer. The proposed comparator yields constellations having the information of a Hamming distance based on the designed code, when several patterns of QPSK signal are injected into the comparator. The paper experimentally demonstrates the feasibility of the optical comparison operation for 8-bit QPSK-modulated return-to-zero (RZ) signal at 10 Gbaud.

Abstract:
Instability of the local oscillator causes phase noise – a phenomenon that is a disadvantage and is considered to be a major obstacle in the functioning of coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) systems. An attempt has been made in this paper to reduce the effects of common phase errors generated by phase noise. In this paper, a least mean square (LMS) based algorithm is proposed for estimation of phase noise. Using this proposed algorithm, the major problem of phase ambiguity caused by cycle slip is avoided and the bit error rate is greatly improved. Further, there is no requirement for modifying the frame structure of OFDM using this algorithm. A CO-OFDM system with the 8-PSK technique is used to implement the algorithm concerned. Furthermore, the algorithm, using the 8-PSK modulation technique, is analyzed and compared with the existing QPSK technique and with other algorithms. The investigations reveal that 8-PSK outperforms existing LMS algorithms using other techniques and significantly reduces the bit error rate.

In this paper, WDM Ro-FSO communication system has designed (10 Gbps×8λ) for transmissions 80 Gbps data rate via the largest possible distance under clear air, heavy rain, and heavy fog atmosphere conditions of FSO link, with test the best wavelengths performance of (193.1 to 93.8) THz that each one (wavelength) carry 10 Gbps by employ BER analyzer at receiver channels. The electric signals produced by phase shift keying (PSK) modulation technique modulated the information (10 Gbps) on RF signal (20 GHz). The results of transporting 80 Gbps were 5 km under clear air weather condition, 1.2 km under heavy rain, and 0.2 km under heavy fog condition. Finally, the different wavelengths that carry high-value data rate are tested by measurement of the BER and Q factor for each received channel, and the theoretical model of PSK modulation is analyzed.

Abstract:
This paper demonstrates an analytical approach on the bit error rate (BER) performance evaluation of a multi- carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) communication link operating over terrestrial free space optical (FSO) channel considering effect of atmospheric turbulence The turbulence induced intensity fading is statistically modeled by Gamma-Gamma PDF (probability density function). Bit error rate performance improvement is proposed using photo detector spatial diversity with Equal Gain Combining (EGC) and Turbo Coding. Analysis is carried out with different bandwidth efficient phase shift keying (PSK) based sub-carrier intensity modulation (SIM) with direct detection. Numerical simulation results of proposed analytical model indicate that, sub-carrier intensity modulation scheme; number of receiver photo detectors, turbo coding parameter and link length should be optimally engineered for ensuring system reliability. It can be inferred from the simulation that, a reliable communication link ( BER) can be established over a link length of 4 Km in strong turbulence fading condition using an array of 4 PIN photo detectors, 8-ary PSK based sub-carrier intensity modulation scheme and appropriate turbo coding parameter with an average 10.2 dB CINR (Carrier to Interference and Noise Ratio) requirement per photo detector. Besides, more than 130 dB average CINR gain is also confirmed from BPSK modulated, un-coded SISO (single input-single output) system for maintaining targeted BER () in presence of strong turbulence fading.

Abstract:
Noise in the communication channel is well established to be a threat to digital bit transmission, resulting in many mistakes at the bit level. Different modulation methods are studied in terms of BER, probability of error and SNR to better comprehend this. In the presence of specific levels of noise in the communication channel, this analysis yields an interesting conclusion that advises the employment of particular modulation methods. A comprehensive analysis of several modulation schemes has been considered. Those include On-Off Key modulation (OOK), Binary Phase Shift Key (BPSK), Quadrature Phase Shift Key (QPSK), Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM) and 8-Phase Shift Key (8-PSK). This analysis can aid in the selection of a modulation approach based on the channel condition.

Furthermore, we proposed an OCC vehicular system architecture with artificial intelligence (AI) functionalities, where dimmable spatial 8-phase shift keying (DS8-PSK) is employed as one out of two modulation schemes to form a hybrid waveform. Further demonstration of simulating the blurring process on a transmitter image, as well as our proposed method of using a neural network as a decoder for DS8-PSK, is provided in detail. Abstract:
A wide range of multimedia applications must be supported by the modern fifth generation (5G) wireless communication systems for realizing the diverse applications in smart cities. The diverse applications such as real-time monitoring of roads, smart homes, smart industries, etc., for a sustainable smart city emphasizes a robust and efficient image transmission. In this paper, the influence of maximal ratio combining (MRC) on the reception of images with different orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) versions is studied. The different OFDM versions considered here are the fast Fourier transform (FFT) based OFDM and discrete cosine transform (DCT) based OFDM. A comparison between diverse modulation levels for the images transmitted through different OFDM methodologies, along with variation in a number of receiving antennas for MRC, is proposed for additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh fading channels. The diverse modulation levels used are binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8-PSK, and 16-PSK. The parameters that are used to compare different versions of OFDM for MRC antenna configurations are signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) vs. bit error rate (BER) and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) at the receiver as an estimation parameter for the received image quality.

Abstract:
Like in GSM network the co-channel interference (CCI) is popular in EDGE network due to the problem of reusing frequency in distant cells. Although the distance between cells using the same frequencies is quite far but CCI still causes significant effect to the channel capacity rather than noise. In fact, many solutions were introduced to reduce the CCI accompanied with improving network capacity such as using MIMO scheme or SAIC scheme. The paper describes a novel receiver model which provides better performance than that of a SAIC system as well as smaller size and cost than a MIMO system. This proposed receiver uses two co-located antennas with difference polarizations to improve the total performance of the system. In addition, this receiver can be applied effectively in high-modulation scheme, for instant, 8-PSK modulation format in an EDGE network and /or in presence of more than one dominant interference.

Innovations in the field of wireless communication are growing very rapidly in line with the behavior of modern societies that have high mobility, need of the flexible services, easy access, and high speed data transfer to facilitate any activities of its users. The needs of every user of any variety are more than just voice, video, data transfer, up to a demanding streaming multimedia capabilities and reliability of the communication system used. One of the factors that affect the quality and speed of data transfer in wireless communications is modulation. The development of technological modulation allows data transfer rate to become faster, more resistant to noise, and have high security (encryption) in order to secure data sent over the lead.
The implementation of digital modulator PSK (Phase Shift Keying Modulation) and QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) on FPGA is designed to simplify the design of a hardware by representing the input which is prepared by using the VHDL programming language. The input will be programmed by logic gates contained in the FPGA into a circuit that functions as a digital modulator. This device can map the input bits into a modulator output that has been mapped in accordance with the coordinates of the constellation.
The expected results of the implementation are three types of digital modulator, namely: BPSK, QPSK and 16-QAM to be implemented on FPGA Xilinx Spartan-6 XC6SLX45 CSG324C; modulation type to be used can be selected by entering input on the programs implemented in the FPGA. In the design used input from laptop devices with UART interface and data types for input is ASCII 8 bit for later analysis simulation results modulation of the input to each modulator using Modelsim for simulation design and Chipscope for simulation system design implemented in the FPGA.

Free Space Optics (FSO) is one of the emerging technology which is thoroughly being popular and is basically using optical signals for the communication. The paper evaluates the bit error rate performance of the Free space Optics (FSO) system. To design a high performance communication link for the atmospheric FSO channel, it is of great importance to characterize the channel with proper model. The performance of the highly efficient, high data rate system is limited by the certain constraints like scintillation effects and atmospheric turbulence. The FSO communication system using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique which is known for its increased robustness against frequency selective fading, narrow-band interference and high channel efficiency. The performance of the modulation techniques- Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK), Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) and 8-PSK are studied in the Lognormal and Negative Exponential channel. The obtained results are the comparative study of Bit Error Rate (BER) vs. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), which is quite useful for analyse the system performance with different channel models for various modulation techniques.

Long cables and harsh environments create a limiting challenge to standard serial bit rates due to high cable impedance and component availability. Keying techniques are often used to improve the robustness and speed of data links over long cables. Frequency shift keying (FSK) is a common implementation where data is encoded by specific frequencies on the data line. Amplitude shift keying (ASK) and phase shift keying (PSK) work on similar principles. In this project we apply quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), a combination of PSK and ASK, and carry it over multiple frequency channels simultaneously using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). QAM over OFDM is a digital communications technique similar to those used in the telecommunications industry for digital subscriber line (DSL) connections and cellular networks. Using our data link, laboratory tests have demonstrated data rates of up to 3.8 Mbps over a 5000 ft (1524 m) single conductor wireline cable with less than 1e-8 bit error rate. Higher data rates are possible if error mitigation and correction coding is used. Gray encoding is an error mitigation technique where nearby points on the QAM constellation are similar in value so the errors are off only by least significant bits. A prototype point to point link protocol was developed in which the cable bandwidth is assessed empirically to optimize the OFDM by allowing for correction of cable distortion at each frequency independently. The protocol can enable use of the developed data link for a variety of tools with little to no changes by hiding all the complexity from the tool. Future versions of the protocol will automatically detect and correct transmission errors, allow for data buffering/retransmission and provide feedback as to the quality of the link. However, this new approach to the problem requires more complex computation to encode the data and signal generation electronics to produce the required waveform. One of the key challenges to full implementation of this concept on high temperature electronics is that a downhole fast Fourier transform (FFT) is required to decode the QAM information for downlink and an inverse FFT (IFFT) is required to efficiently encode data for uplink. The IFFT allows combination of multiple QAM data streams into a time series which can be converted to analog waveforms. High temperature testing of FFT and IFFT performance on the RelChip RC10001 microcontroller is included here. Also included here are the details of development of a high temperature digital to analog converter (DAC) to create composite signals and a high temperature line driver to boost analog signal transmission. This paper describes the communication architecture, the systems developed for high temperature implementation, and evaluations/implementations on high temperature computation devices.

Abstract:
The hybrid signals are the combined signals with multi-modulation mode. With multi-modulation, the disadvantages of single-modulation (such as FSK, PSK and PPM) can be eliminated. By taking the advantages of different modulations, the performance of range resolving, Doppler resolving and low probability of intercept (LPI) of the signal can be improved. FSK/PSK radar signal is the signal with both FSK and PSK modulation at one time. It is with large Bandwidth Time product (BT), thumbtack-like ambiguity function and well ability of Anti-EMI. The FSK/PSK signals of which the frequency-hopping and bi-phase sequences were randomly chosen often had high side lobe level. With the simulation and analysis using MATLAB, the method of FSK modulation is made analysis. As a result, the automatic modulation recognition is one of the necessary functions.

Abstract:
Presenilin-2 (PS2) is one of the three proteins that are dominantly mutated in familial Alzheimer’s disease (FAD). It forms the catalytic core of the γ-secretase complex—a function shared with its homolog presenilin-1 (PS1)—the enzyme ultimately responsible of amyloid-β (Aβ) formation. Besides its enzymatic activity, PS2 is a multifunctional protein, being specifically involved, independently of γ-secretase activity, in the modulation of several cellular processes, such as Ca2+ signalling, mitochondrial function, inter-organelle communication, and autophagy. As for the former, evidence has accumulated that supports the involvement of PS2 at different levels, ranging from organelle Ca2+ handling to Ca2+ entry through plasma membrane channels. Thus FAD-linked PS2 mutations impact on multiple aspects of cell and tissue physiology, including bioenergetics and brain network excitability. In this contribution, we summarize the main findings on PS2, primarily as a modulator of Ca2+ homeostasis, with particular emphasis on the role of its mutations in the pathogenesis of FAD. Identification of cell pathways and molecules that are specifically targeted by PS2 mutants, as well as of common targets shared with PS1 mutants, will be fundamental to disentangle the complexity of memory loss and brain degeneration that occurs in Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

This paper details the design of integrated balanced PSK modulator using finline coplanar line hybrid junction. The PSK signal output is in suspended stripline with incident wave carrier in finline. Schottky barrier Diode MA4E2037 has been used for modulation. The balanced configuration offers high isolation between the carrier input port and the modulated carrier output port and thus the pulse width variations and amplitude deviations are suppressed. An insertion loss imbalance of±1.5 dB with an average loss of 2 dB in the two switching states has been achieved over 38.9 to 40 GHz. The phase imbalance is±10 degrees with phase switching from 180 to 199 degrees As the PSK output signal is in suspended stripline, two BPSK modulators can be easily combined together to work as QPSK modulator.

Today digital communication is widely used in telecommunication sector in which the information is coded in the form of bits. There are many techniques that are implemented for modulation in digital communication some of them are BPSK, QPSK, M-ary PSK, GMSK. While transmitting an image there is always a challenge to retain the quality of an image by using these digital modulation techniques. In this paper GMSK technique is used for transmitting an image. The GMSK modulation technique is widely used in GSM techniques. By using GMSK modulation technique, which carries the information with high data rate and this is very important for image transmission. The proposed system gives better results than other modulation techniques like BPSK and M-ary PSK.

This paper investigates an adaptive M-ary phaseshiftkeying (M-PSK) modulation scheme over Rayleigh flatfading channels. The data rate is adapted according to thechannel state. At the receiver, the fading is estimated using pilot symbols. To cancel the channel impact, we correct the received signal by dividing it by the estimated value of the fading. So, we propose to adjust the modulation level by examining the statistics of the corrected signal. In contrast to the previous works on the adaptive M-PSK modulation techniques, our modulation switching protocol takes into account the channel estimation error variance. Moreover, we derive a new closed-form expression for the average bit error rate of the considered system.

Abstract:
No, Phase RecoveryABSTRACTThe digital communication systems, one of the benefits coding techniques are as bandwidth efficiency. The communication channel, the presence of noise will disrupt and degrade the performance of digital communication systems. This leads to error detection of the carrier, resulting in a change of bits or symbols at the receiver side. To reduce the detection error, there is a need carrier synchronization at the receiver side to obtain similar data with the data sent. Simulation of carrier synchronization in this study using the carrier phase recovery method in digital modulation M-PSK and M-QAM modulation with levels 4 to 32, using Matlab software version 7.9. The results of system testing has been done on the Eb / No ranging from 0 to 30 dB shows, an increase in the performance of the system on the M-PSK modulation from 0.01352 to 0.8546, and the M-QAM modulation from 0.0256 to 0 , 7867. Abstract:
The paper proposes an automatic modulation recognition scheme based on instantaneous features of intercepted signals. The modulation classifier can discriminate modulations such as Amplitude Modulation (AM), Double Side Band (DSB), Single Side Band (SSB), Frequency Modulation (FM), M-ary Amplitude Shift Keying (M-ASK), M-ary Frequency Shift Keying (M-FSK), M-ary Phase Shift Keying (M-PSK) and M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (M-QAM) without any prior information. The scheme is with simple structure, computationally simpler, and suitable for real-time processing. And the recognition parameters are anti-noise, and insensitive to frequency offset, phase offset and timing error. To evaluate the performance of the scheme, several experiments with signals in Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel were carried out in the MATLAB by varying the values of both the main modulation parameters and the signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). The results show that the approach can achieve high recognition accuracy even at low SNR.

Abstract:
A generalized modulation identification scheme is developed and presented. With the help of this scheme, the automatic modulation classification and recognition of wireless communication signals with a priori unknown parameters are possible effectively. The special features of the procedure are the possibility to adapt it dynamically to nearly all modulation types, and the capability to identify. The developed scheme based on wavelet transform and statistical parameters has been used to identify M-ary PSK, M-ary QAM, GMSK, and M-ary FSK modulations. The simulated results show that the correct modulation identification is possible to a lower bound of 5 dB. The identification percentage has been analyzed based on the confusion matrix. When SNR is above 5 dB, the probability of detection of the proposed system is more than 0.968. The performance of the proposed scheme has been compared with existing methods and found it will identify all digital modulation schemes with low SNR.

Abstract:
Based on the phase distribution which is defined in this paper, a new classification algorithm of M-ary phase shift keying (PSK) signals is proposed. To classify the modulation type of the M-ary PSK signal, the phase distribution of the unclassified signal is calculated firstly, and then the characters of the signal modulation are extracted by computing the FFT of the phase distribution. Moreover, the method is improved in this paper that it is extended to MPSK baseband signals with frequency offset, and the calculation complexity is reduced. Simulation result shows that the accuracy rate of the classification of BPSK, QPSK and 8PSK signals can reach 98.5% when the symbol length is 500, SNR is 3dB, and 16PSK signals can also be well classified when the SNR improves to 9dB.

System on multicarrier technique is one that has a frequency of orthogonal to each other by using a narrow bandwidth. The weakness of the system on which occurred in mobile channel due to the technique of the time on a channel so that orthogonalitas on a subchannel would pose intercarrier interference and missing (ICI). This research aims to analyze the intercarrier interference (ICI) on the system on MIMO using BPSK and QPSK modulation in fading channel. In terms of values and graph of Bit Error Rate (BER) is proportional to the energy per Bit to noise (Eb/no). This research also aims to find out the influence of frequency on the system on-MIMO offset. The results of the comparison of the system of on-frequency offset value with MIMO that applies fruit 2, 4 and 6 kHz, a frequency of 2 kHz offset produces the most good. On the calculation of the 5 Eb N0 BPSK modulation with dB on the value of the offset frequency of 2 kHz getting the value of the Bit Error Rate 0.0037, for the value of the frequency offset 4 kHz in modulation BPSK BER 0.0058 and get value for value frequency offset of 6 kHz on modulation BPSK get the value of the BER of 0.0114.

Abstract:
Mutations in the highly homologous presenilin genes encoding presenilin-1 and presenilin-2 (PS1 and PS2) are linked to early-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, apart from a role in early development, neither the normal function of the presenilins nor the mechanisms by which mutant proteins cause AD are well understood. We describe here the properties of a novel human interactor of the presenilins named ubiquilin. Yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) interaction, glutathione S-transferase pull-down experiments, and colocalization of the proteins expressed in vivo, together with coimmunoprecipitation and cell fractionation studies, provide compelling evidence that ubiquilin interacts with both PS1 and PS2. Ubiquilin is noteworthy since it contains multiple ubiquitin-related domains typically thought to be involved in targeting proteins for degradation. However, we show that ubiquilin promotes presenilin protein accumulation. Pulse-labeling experiments indicate that ubiquilin facilitates increased presenilin synthesis without substantially changing presenilin protein half-life. Immunohistochemistry of human brain tissue with ubiquilin-specific antibodies revealed prominent staining of neurons. Moreover, the anti-ubiquilin antibodies robustly stained neurofibrillary tangles and Lewy bodies in AD and Parkinson's disease affected brains, respectively. Our results indicate that ubiquilin may be an important modulator of presenilin protein accumulation and that ubiquilin protein is associated with neuropathological neurofibrillary tangles and Lewy body inclusions in diseased brain.
