Comparative studies of the effect of hydrogenation on creep regularities of the titanium alloy of the Ti–Al–V system in the fine-grained (dav ≈ 7 μm) and ultrafine-grained (dav ≈ 0.3 μm) states are performed for the creep rates in the interval 10-7–10–5 s-1 at temperatures in the range 723–823 K. Hydrogenation of the alloy to 0.23 % is found to lead to a decrease in the steady creep rate and increase in the time to failure with simultaneous decrease in the value of deformation to failure. Possible reasons for the violation of the creep power law for the hydrogenated alloy are discussed.

Abstract:
A recent model of celestial e-vector analysis by the bee assumes that polarization information is transformed into modulation of perceived brightness while the bee scans the sky by rotating its field of view. It is shown that the suggested simple strategy to read compass information from the polarization pattern of the sky in natural conditions can work only in a part of the sky close to the zenith. The bee would need a different strategy for other regions of the sky.

We have compared by means of rocket immunoelectrophoresis the amount of CF1-complex in N. tabacum mutants with that in the wild type N. tabacum var. John William’s Broadleaf. Some of these mutants differ from the wild type not only by higher photosynthetic and photorespiratory activities but also by their chloroplast structure. The amount of CF1, present was related to the chlorophyll content. However, no correlation between the amount of CF1, present and a higher photosynthetic and photorespiratory activity was found. On the other hand the molar ratio of CF1, to chlorophyll seems to depend in

Abstract Chloramphenicol is a widely used antibiotic with low levels of toxicity. However, scanning electron microscopy revealed morphological changes in human erythrocytes when they interacted in vitro with therapeutical concentrations of chloram phenicol. To explain this shape change, a study concerned with the possible interactions of this antibiotic with bilayers built-up of phospholipids located in either side of the red cell membrane was performed by X-ray diffraction. Results indicated that chloramphenicol was unable to perturb in any significant extent the structure of the phospholipid

To explain the high specificity, high reaction rate, and high thermodynamic efficiency in enzymatic processes, cooperation of the enzyme with a molecular transfer unit is assumed. A “kinetic equilibrium of forces” is suggested, which enables high reaction rates to occur under equilibrium conditions and a thorough examination of the substrate to be made without consumption of free energy. In case of ATPases, ion-binding proteins are the most probable transfer units. By analyzing the elementary effect in muscle contraction it is shown that the new theorem may be of substantial value in elucidati

Though qualitative features may emerge by way of the accumulation of rather unspecific quantitative changes, it is reasonable to assume that at least in some cases specific combinations of regulatory parts of the genome initiated new directions of evolution, leading to novel
