Abstract:
Background The prevalence of risk factors for poor outcomes from aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) varies widely and has not been fully elucidated to date in Vietnam. Understanding the risk and prognosis of aneurysmal SAH is important to reduce poor outcomes in Vietnam. The aim of this study, therefore, was to investigate the rate of poor outcome at 90 days of ictus and associated factors from aneurysmal SAH in the country. Methods We performed a multicenter prospective cohort study of patients (≥18 years) presenting with aneurysmal SAH to three central hospitals in Hanoi, Vietnam, from August 2019 to August 2020. We collected data on the characteristics, management, and outcomes of patients with aneurysmal SAH and compared these data between good (defined as modified Rankin Scale (mRS) of 0 to 3) and poor (mRS, 4–6) outcomes at 90 days of ictus. We assessed factors associated with poor outcomes using logistic regression analysis. Results Of 168 patients with aneurysmal SAH, 77/168 (45.8%) were men, and the median age was 57 years (IQR: 48–67). Up to 57/168 (33.9%) of these patients had poor outcomes at 90 days of ictus. Most patients underwent sudden-onset and severe headache (87.5%; 147/168) and were transferred from local to participating central hospitals (80.4%, 135/168), over half (57.1%, 92/161) of whom arrived in central hospitals after 24 hours of ictus, and the initial median World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (WFNS) grading score was 2 (IQR: 1–4). Nearly half of the patients (47.0%; 79/168) were treated with endovascular coiling, 37.5% (63/168) were treated with surgical clipping, the remaining patients (15.5%; 26/168) did not receive aneurysm repair, and late rebleeding and delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) occurred in 6.1% (10/164) and 10.4% (17/163) of patients, respectively. An initial WFNS grade of IV (odds ratio, OR: 15.285; 95% confidence interval, CI: 3.096–75.466) and a grade of V (OR: 162.965; 95% CI: 9.975–2662.318) were independently associated with poor outcomes. Additionally, both endovascular coiling (OR: 0.033; 95% CI: 0.005–0.235) and surgical clipping (OR: 0.046; 95% CI: 0.006–0.370) were inversely and independently associated with poor outcome. Late rebleeding (OR: 97.624; 95% CI: 5.653–1686.010) and DCI (OR: 15.209; 95% CI: 2.321–99.673) were also independently associated with poor outcome. Conclusions Improvements are needed in the management of aneurysmal SAH in Vietnam, such as increasing the number of aneurysm repairs, performing earlier aneurysm treatment by surgical clipping or endovascular coiling, and improving both aneurysm repairs and neurocritical care.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to explore the best coupling form of water and nitrogen in arid areas of northwest China. Field experiment was conducted in the oasis region of Shiyang River Basin, and the interactive impact of water and nitrogen nutrition on use of water and nitrogen of spring wheat was investigated. The results showed that nitrogen rate and irrigation in jointing and heading stages impacted on spring wheat yield remarkably. With nitrogen rate (168 kg/hm2), irrigation (90 mm) in jointing stage, and irrigation (70 mm) in heading stage, grain yield was higher. Water use efficiency would be high, when the irrigation in tillering and filling stages both were 30 mm. Soil mineral nitrogen accumulation was mainly nitrate nitrogen, which was positively correlated with nitrogen rate in earlier stage. Nitrogen rate and irrigation in jointing and filling stage impacted on plant nitrogen accumulation remarkably, plant nitrogen accumulation came to maximum when nitrogen rate (168 kg/hm2), irrigation (90 mm) in jointing stage and irrigation (70 mm) in filling stage were applied. And nitrogen use efficiency came to maximum under nitrogen rate (56 kg/hm2), irrigation (90 mm) in jointing stage. Considering high grain yield and use of water and nitrogen, the primary suggestion on mode of irrigation and nitrogen rate of spring wheat in Shiyang River Basin were nitrogen rate (168 kg/hm2), irrigation (90 mm) in jointing stage and irrigation (70 mm) in tillering, heading and filling stages.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background Medication shortages prevent patients from receiving optimal care. Despite the frequency with which medical trainees care for inpatients, no assessment of their experiences in medication shortage management has been performed. Objective We evaluated trainees' experiences managing medication shortages. Methods We performed a cross-sectional survey of trainees postgraduate year 2 (PGY-2) and above in medicine, anesthesiology, and emergency medicine departments at 2 academic centers in 2018–2019. Categorical and ordinal assessments evaluated shortage awareness, substitution availability, pharmacy and therapeutics committee-based restrictions, communication, and education. Regressions were performed to determine effect of PGY, department, and institution on responses. Results A total of 168 of 273 subjects completed the survey (62% response rate). Most (95%, 159 of 168) reported managing medication shortages during training; 51% (86 of 168) described managing clinically relevant shortages daily or weekly. Seventy-seven percent (129 of 168) noted equivalent alternatives were unavailable at least one-quarter of the time, and 43% (72 of 168) reported clinically necessary medications were restricted at least weekly. Fifty-four percent (89 of 168) and 64% (106 of 167) of respondents discussed clinically relevant shortages with supervising physicians or patients “some of the time” or less, respectively. Most respondents (90%, 151 of 168) reported they would benefit from shortage management training, but few (13%, 21 of 168) reported prior training. Conclusions Although trainees reported frequent involvement in clinically impactful shortage management, medication shortage communication between trainees and supervising physicians or patients appears sporadic. Medication shortage management training is uncommon but perceived as beneficial.

Abstract:
This study presents the development of geopolymer bricks synthetized from industrial waste, including fly ash mixed with concrete residue containing aluminosilicate compound. The above two ingredients are mixed according to five ratios: 100:0, 95:5, 90:10, 85:15, and 80:20. The mixture's physico-mechanical properties, in terms of water absorption and the compressive strength of the geopolymer bricks, are investigated according to the TIS 168-2546 standard. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses are used to investigate the microstructure and the elemental and phase composition of the brick specimens. The results indicate that the combination of fly ash and concrete residue represents a suitable approach to brick production, as required by the TIS 168–2546 standard.

Abstract:
Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) seed require soil temperature to be around 20C for efficient germination. This hinders early planting in cool soils. This study was conducted to determine how germinating seed of cucumber cultivars Earlipik 14 and Arkansas Little Leaf at 13.9, 15.6, and 20C in the dark affected protein formation. Seed were removed from moist chambers at 0, 12, 24, 48, 72, 84, 96, 120, and 168 h. Germination, defined as the radicle being at least 5 mm long, was determined at each time. Germinated and ungerminated seed was prepared for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. At 20C, 90% to 100% of seed had germinated by 48 h. At 15.6C, 20% to 50% of seed germinated by 168 h, and at 13.9C, ≈2% of seed had germinated by 168 h. For seed incubated at 20C, concentrations of proteins at 70.1 kDa decreased, while those at 37.4, 43.4, and 50 kDa increased after 24 h, which corresponded to formation and elongation of the majority of radicles. These changes were expressed later for seed germinated at 15.6 and 13.9C. Identification of the proteins is being attempted. The importance of these proteins in germination and early development will be discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract Samples of Chernobyl fuel debris such as corium and “lava” had been studied using repeated static leach test MCC-1 at temperature of 25 and 90 °C in distilled water and simulated seawater. A normalized 137Cs mass loss (NLCs) estimated for corium samples after 168 days in distilled and seawater was 3.2–3.5 g/m2 at 25 °C and 113–114 g/m2 at 90 °C. For “lava” samples NLCs varied from 1.4 to 13.2 g/m2 at 90 °C for 56 days (in distilled and seawater) and from 0.1 to 0.4 g/m2 at 25 °C in seawater for 140 days. Chemical durability of Chernobyl “lava” in distilled and seawater evaluated using 137Cs specific activity in leachates is higher than one for corium. Further study is proposed in order to obtain more quantitative data.

Abstract:
IntroductionThe objective of this study was to investigate the stability of ceftazidime and cephazolin in a 7.5% icodextrin or pH neutral peritoneal dialysis (PD) solution.MethodsCeftazidime and cephazolin were injected into either a 7.5% icodextrin or pH neutral PD bag to obtain the concentration of 125 mg/L of each antibiotic. A total of nine 7.5% icodextrin or pH neutral PD bags containing ceftazidime and cephazolin were prepared and stored at 1 of 3 different temperatures: 4°C in a domestic refrigerator; 25°C at room temperature; or 37°C (body temperature) in an incubator. An aliquot was withdrawn immediately before (0 hour) or after 12, 24, 48, 96, 120, 144, 168 and 336 hours of storage. Each sample was analyzed in duplicate for the concentration of ceftazidime and cephazolin using a stability-indicating high-performance liquid chromatography technique. Ceftazidime and cephazolin were considered stable if they retained more than 90% of their initial concentration. Samples were also assessed for pH, colour changes and evidence of precipitation immediately after preparation and on each day of analysis.ResultsCeftazidime and cephazolin in both types of PD solution retained more than 90% of their initial concentration for 168 and 336 hours respectively when stored at 4°C. Both of the antibiotics lost more than 10% of the initial concentration after 24 hours of storage at 25 or 37°C. There was no evidence of precipitation at any time under the tested storage conditions. Change in the pH and color was observed at 25 and 37°C, but not at 4°C.ConclusionPremixed ceftazidime and cephazolin in a 7.5% icodextrin or pH neutral PD solution is stable for at least 168 hours when refrigerated. This allows the preparation of PD bags in advance, avoiding the necessity for daily preparation. Both the antibiotics are stable for at least 24 hours at 25 and 37°C, permitting storage at room temperature and pre-warming of PD bags to body temperature prior to its administration.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction/Objective Massive transfusion protocols (MTPs) make it possible to deliver blood products to exsanguinating patients in an efficient, sustained, and immediate manner. However, overutilization of MTPs continues to remain a significant problem for hospital blood banks. The study aims to address the characteristics of possibly inappropriate MTP activations during the first phase (cooler) at a level 1 trauma academic medical center. Methods This was a retrospective review of 328 phase 1 MTPs out of 696 total MTPs performed during a two-year period (Jan 1, 2017 and Dec 31, 2018) and divided into three categories: trauma, non-trauma surgery, and medicine services. We assumed that a possibly inappropriate MTP for trauma cases would show an Assessment of Blood Component (ABC) score of 1 or less and physicians used clinical discretion. For possibly inappropriate MTP non- trauma surgical and medicine cases, we devised a new system where we looked at only whether the blood pressure was equal to or less than 90 mm Hg and/or the pulse was greater than or equal to 120 beats per minute. If there was a score of 0 where there were neither vital sign criteria, then the MTP was considered possibly inappropriate. Results For trauma service, there were 43/168 (25.6%) cases that had an ABC score of 0, 49/168 (29.2%) cases that had an ABC score of 1, 53/168 (31.5%) cases that had an ABC score of 2, 21/168 (12.5%) cases that had an ABC score of 3, and only 2/168 (1.2%) case that had an ABC score of 4. Non-trauma surgery service had 31/51 (60.8%) cases with a new score of 0, 20/51 (39.2%) cases with a new score of 1, and 0/51 (0%) cases with a new score of 2. Medicine services had 57/109 (52.3%) patients with a new score of 0, 47/109 (43.1%) patients with a new score of 1, and 5/109 (4.6%) patients with a new score of 2. Non-trauma surgery service had the greatest possibly inappropriate MTP activations [31/51 cases (60.8%)], followed by trauma [92/168 (54.8%) cases] and medicine [57/109 (52.3%) cases]. Conclusion Our study shows greater overutilization with MTPs using clinical judgment than with using the ABC criteria. Non-trauma surgery service had the greatest number of possibly inappropriate MTP activations at our hospital without having a significantly abnormal pulse or blood pressure. While ABC criteria is already liberal for activating an MTP, physician discretion appears to be more liberal in activating a possibly inappropriate MTP.

The difficulty of storage and conservation of entomopathogenic nematodes (ENPs) is one of the major obstacles for the expansion of its use in the control of biological pest and in the maintenance of collections of these organisms. The objective of this study was to evaluate cryopreservation as a storage and conservation method for ENPs, using glycerol as cryoprotectant. Infective juveniles (IJs) of the species Heterorhabditis amazonensis (RSC 05), H. bacteriophora (HP88), Steinernema feltiae (Sn) and S. carpocapse (IBCB-n02) were subjected to the following treatments: (A) immersion in glycerol at different concentrations (10, 13 and 15%); (B) different exposure times of the isolates to glycerol (24 and 48 hours); and (C) two freezing times in liquid nitrogen (LN) at –196 ºC (24 and 168 hours). Each treatment was replicated four times, and the design was completely randomized in a factorial 3x2x2 (glycerol concentrations x glycerol exposure time x freezing time in LN). IJs survival was evaluated after each exposure time to glycerol and freezing time in LN. Data were subjected to analysis of variance, and means were compared by the Tukey test. S. feltiae and S. carpocapse survived when exposed to glycerol at 10, 13 and 15% for 24 and 48 hours. After storage in LN for 24 and 168 hours, only S. feltiae survived when exposed to glycerol for 48 hours at concentrations of 10, 13 and 15%, with 40.5; 58.2; and 57.7% survival, respectively. S. feltiae was able to infect Galleria mellonella larvae after freezing. However, for the freezing time of 168 hours, 90% reduction in infectivity was observed.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate prescribing practices for elderly patients started on apixaban in multiple practice settings.<br/> DESIGN: Retrospective, chart review.<br/> SETTING: One outpatient and three inpatient settings in Arizona and Massachusetts.<br/> PATIENT, PARTICIPANTS: Patients who received a new order for apixaban between July 1, 2015, and December 31, 2016. Inclusion criteria included adults 65 years of age and older who were receiving apixaban for atrial fibrillation or venous thromboembolism (VTE) at a current treatment dose.<br/> There were 1,045 patients included, the average age was 78 years, 52% were male, and 90% had atrial fibrillation.<br/> MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Appropriate prescribing of apixaban based on Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-labeling (age, weight, serum creatinine).<br/> RESULTS: Six patients who were on hemodialysis were excluded from the analysis, leaving 1,039 patients to be analyzed. 16.2% (168/1,039) of patients had an incorrect dose of apixaban prescribed based on their indication. Of those, 75% (126/168) were taking the medication for atrial fibrillation and 25% (42/168) for VTE. For those with atrial fibrillation (n = 126), the majority of inappropriate orders resulted from doses that were lower than indicated (113/126).<br/> CONCLUSION: This research suggests that elderly patients may receive inappropriately lower doses of apixaban than indicated, which may decrease the effectiveness of the medication. This research supports the fact that pharmacists can play a vital role in anticoagulation stewardship by verifying apixaban doses for accuracy.

Abstract:
Objectives. To determine rates of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine adherence to the 2011 and 2016 Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations in the United States. Methods. We conducted a retrospective cohort study by using the 2011 to 2017 Marketscan data for beneficiaries aged 9 to 26 years who had at least 1 claim for HPV vaccination between January 1, 2011, and January 1, 2017. According to the 2011 ACIP recommendation, adherence is defined as 30 to 90 days between the first and second vaccination and 168 to 212 days between the first and third vaccination. According to the 2016 recommendation, preadolescents are classified as adherent if they had 2 claims of vaccination within 168 to 212 days. We calculated proportions of completion and adherence by recommendation. Results. Among patients classified under the 2011 ACIP recommendation (n = 2 164 096), 8.3% completed all 3 doses of the vaccine series. Of those who completed, 69.6% were considered adherent to the recommended schedule. Completion and adherence increased to 9.6% and 70.8%, respectively, among patients who were classified under the 2016 ACIP recommendation. Conclusions. Simpler recommendations lead to better adherence to the HPV vaccination schedule.

Abstract:
Abstract Background: fludarabine (F) has become the standard first line therapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in younger patients. Treatment of early stage patients with chlorambucil without risk stratification has not been shown to prolong survival. In recent years effective and potentially curative approaches such as nucleosides analogues, stem cell transplantation or monoclonal antibodies have been developed. The attraction of monoclonal antibodies is based on selective targeting of tumor - relevant surface markers and a distinct mechanism of action (antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity). Aims: to assess the efficacy, safety and quality of life of F in previously untreated B-cell CLL patients in a group of medical institutions in Uruguay during 11 years (1995–2006). Methods: 168 patients between the period 1995 – 2006 were evaluated.120 of them received F intravenous formulation (1995–2006) and 48 the oral one (2002–2006). Age: 48 – 85 years old, media 67 years old. Gender: male 90, female 78. Inclusion criteria for B-cell CLL was Binet stages B, C and A progressive (Ap), 18 to 85 years old, non multiorganic failure, performance status 0 – 2 (WHO), written informed consent. First condition was non previous treatment. Staging: Binet A 12/168, B 116/168 & C 40/168. Treatment: as first line therapy all the patients received (minimum): 6 cycles of i.v. Fludarabine (Fludara®, Schering) 25 mg/m2/daily (5 days) e/30 days or Oral Fludarabine, 40 mg/m2/daily (5 days), 6 cycles. Results: on this B-cell CLL cohort the overall response rate (ORR) was 78% (CR+PR), 80% of them have immunophenotypic response. Safety: on the 1100 cycles in 168 patients, the toxicity was: 1 AIHA, 2 pancytopenia, 3 plaquetopenia. Grade 3–4 infection rate was 1,3%. No alopecia was observed in any patient. Kaposi sarcoma (0,7%). Mortality rate: 1,7% (3/168 patients). Other adverse factors to overall survival were, age over 65 (p=0,0001) and hepatic impairment (p=0,0001). Toxicity: (WHO>2): granulocytopenia 28%, thrombocytopenia 8%, infection 2%. Although fludarabine-treated patients experienced more significant myelosuppression, no difference in the treatment group was demonstrated. Causes of death: Richter 12%, sepsis 5%, associated disease 34%, second malignancy 17% and others 30%. Comparing oral with intravenous formulation in overall survival the results were: CLL 34% vs 36% (p= NS). Conclusions: fludarabine monofosfate (Fludara®) looks like an effective and safe treatment for B-cell CLL. The oral and intravenous formulations have a similar response rate in elderly and young patients. The challenge remains to integrate new information to apply novel therapies in a disease-specific and risk-adapted maner. A longer follow up and a larger trial, might be needed to confirm these results.

Abstract:
This paper presents a proposal of a new configuration of an optical concentrator for photovoltaic application which may enhance the efficiency of solar cells. Bee-eyes array Fresnel lenses concentrator proposed here provide high concentration factor which is greater than1000x at the 20th zone. In addition, the system also provides room for increasing the number of zones to achieve the high concentration factor if needs arise. The transmission efficiency greater than 90% has been achieved with f-number of ≥1.25. Mathematical relations derived to obtain flux distribution at the absorber plane and the transmission efficiency as well as the position of the solar cell were used in the ray tracing simulations for 6, 18, 36, 60, 90, 126, 168, 216, 270, and 330 suns concentration systems. A transmission efficiency is linearly decreasing with the increase in the number of arrays in which the transmission efficiency of 94.42% was recorded at the array of 6 suns and 74.98% at 330 suns.

Abstract:
Partial and almost complete barium exchange on clinoptilolite is performed and structurally studied for different durations (2 h, 24 h, 72 h, 168 h, 12 d, 22 d) at room temperature and 90 °C of the ion exchange process. Continuing ion exchange up to the 22nd day is proved by EDS analyses data and powder XRD (intensity changes of 020 and 200 peaks). Rietveld structure refinement was first performed on the maximum Ba exchanged clinoptilolite at 90 °C for 22 days (3.04 atoms per unit cell). Four barium positions and 9 H2O sites were refined. The split positions Ba2 and BaK (around M3 site in channel C) were found mostly occupied by 2.23 atoms per unit cell. The rest of refined samples showed different occupations of the positions of incoming Ba2+ and outgoing cations (Na+, Ca2+, K+, Mg2+) during ion exchange, describing extra-framework cationic movements, which are released easily without preferable directions. The exchanges at 90 °C and room temperature were found proceeding similarly up to the 2nd hour, but then at room temperature the process is slowed and at 22nd day 1.64 barium atoms per unit cell are structurally refined.

Abstract:
3062 Background: HuC242-DM4 is a novel, targeted anti-cancer agent in development for the treatment of CanAg-expressing tumors such as carcinomas of the colon and pancreas. The compound is formed by the conjugation of the potent cytotoxic maytansinoid drug, DM4, to the humanized monoclonal antibody, huC242. This agent was highly active across a broad spectrum of CanAg-expressing human tumor xenograft models. Methods: Patients were enrolled with metastatic or inoperable colorectal, pancreatic, and other CanAg-expressing tumors who have failed standard therapy (about 95% of pts. had received = 4 prior chemotherapy regimens). Results: Thirty patients were treated with huC242-DM4, receiving a single intravenous (IV) infusion once every three weeks. Cohorts of 3 patients initially were enrolled on each dose level. Patients have received huC242-DM4 at 18, 36, 60, 90, 126, 168, 223, and 297 mg/m2. To date, dose limiting toxicity (DLT) was experienced by two of six patients treated at the 223 mg/m2 dose level during their second cycle of treatment. The patients experienced decreased visual acuity, corneal deposits and keratitis. Both patients were subsequently treated with lubricating eye drops. At present, these adverse events have markedly improved in one patient, while the other patient has completely returned to baseline. Of 10 patients treated at the168 mg/m2 dose level (including two patients who were dose reduced to 168 mg/m2), seven patients have received at least two cycles of treatment. One patient had grade 3 diarrhea and dehydration during his second cycle at 168 mg/m2. The latter improved with intravenous fluids. Preliminary pharmacokinetic data reveal a half-life of huC242-DM4 of about 5 days in patients with low plasma CanAg levels. In patients with high plasma CanAg levels (>900 units/mL), clearance of huC242-DM4 is increased. There has been no clinically significant myelosuppression and no formation of antibody to humanized antibody (HAHA) or drug (HADA). One patient had a 36% decline in CEA (not associated with tumor shrinkage). Conclusions: HuC242-DM4 was well tolerated at the 168 mg/m2 dose level. The MTD is not yet defined and approaches to prevent /ameliorate ocular toxicity are planned. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract:
Purpose The data describing the compatibility of tobramycin and ceftazidime in icodextrin-based peritoneal dialysis (PD) solution is limited. The objective of this study was to assess the chemical stability of tobramycin and ceftazidime in icodextrin PD solution in polyvinyl chloride containers. Methods Commercially available 2-L bags of icodextrin 7.5% PD solution were used for each sample. Nine tobramycin study samples were prepared by adding 80 mg tobramycin HCl to each bag. Nine ceftazidime samples were prepared by adding 1000 mg ceftazidime to each bag. Three bags of tobramycin–icodextrin solution were stored under each of the following conditions: refrigeration (4°C), room temperature (25°C), and body temperature (37°C). Three bags of ceftazidime–icodextrin solution were also stored at each of the respective temperatures. Samples were withdrawn from each bag immediately after preparation and at predetermined intervals (1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 168, and 336 hours after preparation). Solutions were visually inspected for precipitation, cloudiness, and discoloration at each sampling interval. All samples were immediately frozen (–80°C) after collection and stored prior to assay. Total concentrations of tobramycin and ceftazidime in dialysate fluid were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. The last time point when tobramycin or ceftazidime concentration was >90% from baseline was used to denote stability. Results All solutions were clear in appearance and no color change or precipitation was observed during the study. For tobramycin, under refrigeration, a mean of 94.6% ± 2.3% of the initial concentration remained at 336 hours (14 days); at room temperature, 90.5% ± 4.3% remained at 168 hours (7 days); at body temperature, 90.0% ± 8.1% remained at 24 hours. For ceftazidime, under refrigeration, a mean of 98.0% ± 0.3% of the initial concentration remained at 168 hours (7 days); at room temperature, 91.6% ± 2.0% remained at 48 hours; at body temperature, 93.9% ± 1.1% remained at 8 hours. Stability was not assessed beyond these respective time points. Conclusion Premixed tobramycin–icodextrin PD solution remains stable for 336 hours (14 days) when refrigerated (4°C) and for 168 hours (7 days) at room temperature (25°C). Ceftazidime–icodextrin PD solution is stable for 168 hours and 48 hours, respectively, when stored at 4°C and 25°C. It is recommended that the bags be kept refrigerated whenever possible. Tobramycin–icodextrin solution stored at body temperature was stable up to 24 hours, and ceftazidime–icodextrin solutions up to 8 hours, permitting the practice of pre-warming solutions prior to administration.

Abstract:
With drip irrigation systems, a part of the area is wetted at the soil surface. This raises the question of whether to program fertilizer rates on the total or wetted area of the plot. The objective of this investigation was to study the response of unstaked tomato plants (Lycopersicon lycopersicum L. Karst.) to drip application of fertilizers on the basis of total versus wetted surface area. Apart from the conventional broadcast and drip application of NPK fertilizers in liquid form, four other treatments were applied consisting of two rates of NPK, i.e., 224, 88 and 168 kg ha−1 on total plot area basis, and 56, 22 and 42 kg ha−1 on wetted surface area basis, factorially combined with 1.2- and-2.4-m lateral spacings, with N through drip, P and K banded. The study also included drip irrigation at 1.0 and 0.5 times the daily evapotranspiration (ET) rate factorially combined with drip application of NPK at 1.0, 0.75 and 0.5 times and broadcast application at 1.0 times the NPK rate. The NPK were, respectively, at 224, 88 and 168 kg ha−1. At the full grown stage, available water in the plant root zone was 60–100%. Root growth, soil temperature, and thermal conductivity were positively influenced by canopy cover and soil moisture regime. The development pattern indicated that 74% of the total root weight was confined to the top 15-cm soil layer. At the time of fruiting, the root weight declined in the soil layer with high water content. Drip irrigation equal to 0.5 ET required 25% less fertilizer than irrigation equal to ET, but irrigation at the latter rate and application of fertilizers to supply 224, 88 and 168 kg ha−1 of NPK, respectively, gave the highest yield of 90 t ha−1.Key words: Drip irrigation, root growth, spacing, multiple rows, fertilizer

Abstract:
Ginsenoside Rg3 is a bioactive compound from Panax ginseng and exhibits diverse notable biological properties. Glycosylation catalyzed by uridine diphosphate-dependent glycosyltransferase (UGT) is the final biosynthetic step of ginsenoside Rg3 and determines its diverse pharmacological activities. In the present study, promiscuous UGT Bs-YjiC from Bacillus subtilis 168 was expressed in Escherichia coli and purified via one-step nickel chelate affinity chromatography. The in vitro glycosylation reaction demonstrated Bs-Yjic could selectively glycosylate the C12 hydroxyl group of ginsenoside Rg3 to synthesize an unnatural ginsenoside Rd12. Ginsenoside Rd12 was about 40-fold more water-soluble than that of ginsenoside Rg3 (90 μM). Furthermore, in vitro cytotoxicity of ginsenoside Rd12 against diverse cancer cells was much stronger than that of ginsenoside Rg3. Our studies report the UGT-catalyzed synthesis of unnatural ginsenoside Rd12 for the first time. Ginsenoside Rd12 with antiproliferative activity might be further exploited as a potential anticancer drug.

Abstract:
We conducted a longitudinal community-based survey between August 1991 and August 1992 started with a pilot study in May 1991 in two rural villages which involved 497 children aged 0-59 monhs, 58 community health workers (CWHs), 44 community representatives, and 5 health center personnel. The qualitative component was carried out using in-depth interviews with the mothers, CWHs, and health personnel. It appeared that the three terms for diarrhea used in thecommunity were similar to medical terminology. However the community perception was that only cases of diarrhea with dehydration should be referred to the health center (HC) for tretment; bloody diarrhea was not considered to be referred. Through case findings, 168 (33.8%) diarrheal episodes were identified among 141 children (1.2 episodes per child). Twenty-two of 168 cases (13.1%) had bloody stool, shigella was isolated in 9 (41%) of these patients. No death occurred in this study. Diagnostic agreement on bloody and watery stool specimens between HC personnel and CHWs was analyzed using data from the 72 stool specimens that were seen by both parties, which showed a kappa coefficient of 0.50. Breast feeding (90%) nand additionalk food (89%) were given during diarrhea in almost all cases. Oral rehydration salts solution was given in 80% odf cases. The study shows that the existing treatment guidelines in the HCs were not properly followed by the health personnel.

Abstract:
Medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCADH) deficiency, an autosomal recessive inherited disorder, is the most common genetic disorder in mitochondrial β-oxidation in humans. In addition to one prevalent disease-causing mutation (K304E), a series of rarer mutations has been reported, but none of these has yet been characterized in detail. We report here on the biochemical characterization of the purified recombinant mutant protein in which threonine is replaced by alanine at position 168 of the mature protein (T168A-MCADH). It is the first mutation to be found in patients that is located in the active site of the enzyme. Thr-168 is hydrogen-bonded to the flavin N(5) of the cofactor FAD. The thermostability of T168A-MCADH is markedly decreased compared with human wild-type MCADH (hwt-MCADH). Catalytic activity with ferricenium as acceptor is lowered by 80% and with the natural acceptor electron-transferring flavoprotein by over 90% compared with hwt-MCADH. In the mutant the extent of flavin semiquinone formed on reduction is approx. 50% that of hwt-MCADH. The pK reflected by the pH-dependence of Vmax is shifted from approx. 8.2 (hwt-MCADH) to approx. 7 (T168A-MCADH) and the rates of enzyme flavin reduction (stopped-flow measurements) are only approx. 1/10 those of the parent enzyme. These properties are discussed in the light of the possible mechanisms leading to disease in humans.

Abstract:
Field studies were conducted in 2000 and 2001 in Plains, GA, to determine peanut and weed response to the residual herbicides sulfentrazone, imazapic, diclosulam, and flumioxazin. Herbicide treatments included sulfentrazone applied preemergence (PRE) or preplant incorporated (PPI) at 112, 168, 224, and 280 g ai/ha, imazapic postemergence (POST) at 71 g ai/ha, diclosulam PPI at 26 g ai/ha, and flumioxazin PRE at 88 g ai/ha. Peanut exhibited early-season injury from all herbicide treatments, ranging from 0 to 10% for sulfentrazone PPI or PRE, 10% for imazapic, 3 to 23% for flumioxazin, and 1 to 7% for diclosulam. Yields were similar for sulfentrazone PPI- or PRE-treated and flumioxazin-, imazapic-, and diclosulam-treated peanut. Yellow nutsedge control was 83% or greater with all rates of sulfentrazone PRE or PPI, 83 and 90% with diclosulam, and 96 and 99% with imazapic, respectively. Flumioxazin did not control yellow nutsedge or wild poinsettia. Tall morningglory control was 82% or greater with imazapic, diclosulam, flumioxazin, and sulfentrazone PPI or PRE at 168 g/ha or higher. Florida beggarweed control was 88% or greater with diclosulam, flumioxazin, and sulfentrazone PRE at 224 and 280 g/ha. Overall, peanut tolerance to sulfentrazone at 112 to 280 g/ha PPI and PRE was high and yield was equivalent to the currently registered peanut residual herbicides.

The objectives of this research work are to investigate their structural behaviors and modes of failure and to propose their design equations. The specimens were built from single PFRP C-section, having three cross-sectional dimensions of 76×22×6 mm, 102×29×6 mm and 152×43×10 mm. A total of 42 specimens with slenderness ratios ranging from 21 to 168 were tested. The compression members can be classified as short and long. The short compression members have linear behavior up to 90% to 95% of the ultimate crushing loads. The long compression members have linear behavior up to 80-90% of the flexural buckling loads. By comparing and fitting the test results with the design equations as presented in the ASCE Structural Plastics Design Manual, the design equations that can be used to predict the ultimate compressive stress of the compression members were proposed.

Abstract:
Intraarterial blood pressure (BP) response to bench press weight lifting (WL) was evaluated in 11 children. Aortic systolic and diastolic pressures and heart rate (HR) were measured during WL. Baseline systolic and diastolic pressures were 120 and 81 mmHg, and HR was 86 bpm. Subjects lifted to voluntary fatigue weights equaling 60, 75, 90, and 100% of their predetermined one-repetition maximum (1RM). For each weight lifting condition, BP and HR increased as more repetitions were completed. Peak systolic pressure was 168, 177, 166, and 162 mmHg, peak diastolic pressure was 125, 139, 133, and 130 mmHg, and peak heart rate was 142, 148, 142, and 139 bpm at 60, 75, 90, and 100% 1RM, respectively. Peak BP and HR were greater during WL than rest but did not differ between conditions. The relative BP response to WL in children was similar to adult values. For all conditions, pressures increased as more repetitions were completed. It was concluded that peak pressures occur at voluntary fatigue, independent of the combination of resistance and repetitions used to achieve fatigue.

Abstract:
The Music Apperception Test (MAT) asks respondents to “tell a story to the music.” Brief compositions portray basic emotions followed by 30-s silent periods. The MAT relies on the emotional import of music, so narratives vary for content, settings, and outcomes. Stories are recorded and transcribed for coding. Thirty-seven MAT variables in ten categories of response are described: Fluency, Latency, Time to Termination, Pace, Content, Interaction, Off-Task Response, Voice, Narrative Style, and Affective Fit. Provisional norms for children, adolescents, and adults, are based on 2,016 responses of 168 individuals. Split-half and test–retest reliabilities for quantitative variables, latency and fluency, exceed .90. Current research is summarized, clinical application is discussed, and recommendations are made for future research.

Abstract:
In Central Slovenia within a long term static experiment IOSDV we investigated the impact of mineral nitrogen (N) fertilisation (0, 65, 130, 195 kg/ha) on the N content and the N amount in winter wheat (larger roots, stems, spikes and leaves) in EC 81/82 and EC 90/91, employing three systems of management: farmyard manure ploughing in before forecrop maize, straw ploughing in and green manure, no organic fertilisation. At EC 81/82 the N content in larger roots was around twice as high as the N content in stems and around twice as low as the N content in spikes and leaves. There was 80% of the whole N amount in plant located in the spikes and leaves (33&ndash;168 kg/ha) in EC 81/82 and 90% in EC 90/91. Calculated N recovery from mineral fertiliser was 68&ndash;87%; it increased with the increasing N rates in the system with farmyard manure ploughing in and in the system with no organic fertilisation, but not in the system with straw ploughing in and green manure. Between EC 81/82 and EC 90/91 wheat gained from 4 to 34 kg N/ha, but there were more important translocations of N inside the plants, which were higher at higher mineral N rates. There was a significant impact of management system on the N uptake at the highest mineral N rate.

Abstract:
Purpose: To compare the dynamics of maximal oxygen uptake (), blood lactate ([La]b), total energy expenditure (Etot), and contributions of the aerobic (Eaer), alactic anaerobic (Ean,al), and lactic anaerobic (Ean,lac) metabolic energy pathways over 4 consecutive 25-m laps (L0–25, L25–50, etc) of a 100-m maximal freestyle swim. Methods: Elite swimmers comprising 26 juniors (age = 16 [1] y) and 23 seniors (age = 24 [5] y) performed 100 m at maximal speed and then 3 trials (25, 50, and 75 m) at the same pace as that of the 100 m. [La]b was collected, and was measured 20 s postexercise. Results: The estimated energetic contributions for the 100-m trial are presented as mean (SD): Eaer, 51% (8%); Ean,al, 18% (2%); Ean,lac, 31% (9%). increased from L0–25 to L25–50 (mean = 3.5 L·min−1; 90% confidence interval [CI], 3.4–3.7 L·min−1 to mean = 4.2 L·min−1; 90% CI, 4.0–4.3 L·min−1) and then stabilized in the 2nd 50 m (mean = 4.1 L·min−1; 90% CI, 3.9–4.3 L·min−1 to mean = 4.2 L·min−1; 90% CI, 4.0–4.4 L·min−1). Etot (juniors, 138 [18] kJ; seniors, 168 [26] kJ), Ean,al (juniors, 27 [3] kJ; seniors, 30 [3] kJ), and Ean,lac (juniors, 38 [12] kJ; seniors, 62 [24] kJ) were 11–58% higher in seniors. Faster swimmers (n = 26) had higher , 90% CI 4.4–4.8 L·min−1 vs 3.9 L·min−1, 90% CI 3.6–4.2 L·min−1), and Eaer power was associated with fast performances (P < .001). Conclusion: Faster swimmers were characterized by higher and less time to reach the highest at ∼50 m of the 100-m swim. Anaerobic qualities become more important with age.

Abstract:
AbstractWe evaluate the impact of adding two-way coupling between atmosphere and ocean to the Met Office deterministic global forecast model. As part of preoperational testing of this coupled NWP configuration we have three years of daily forecasts, run in parallel to the uncoupled operational forecasts. Skill in the middle and upper troposphere out to T + 168 h is generally increased compared to the uncoupled model. Improvements are strongest in the tropics and largely neutral in midlatitudes. We attribute the additional skill in the atmosphere to the ability of the coupled model to predict sea surface temperature (SST) variability in the (sub)tropics with greater skill than persisted SSTs as used in uncoupled forecasts. In the midlatitude, ocean skill for SST is currently marginally worse than persistence, possibly explaining why there is no additional skill for the atmosphere in midlatitudes. Sea ice is predicted more skillfully than persistence out to day 7 but the impact of this on skill in the atmosphere is difficult to verify. Two-way air–sea coupling benefits tropical cyclone forecasts by reducing median track and central pressure errors by around 5%, predominantly from T + 90 to T + 132 h. Benefits from coupling are largest for large cyclones, and for smaller storms coupling can be detrimental. In this study skill in forecasts of the Madden–Julian oscillation does not change with two-way air–sea coupling out to T + 168 h.

Abstract:
Two α -galactosidase (P1 and P2) and one invertase present in the culture of Aspergillus terreus grown on wheat straw for 168 h at 28ºC were partially purified by gel filtration and hydrophobic interaction chromatographies. Optimum pH and temperatures for P1, P2 and invertase preparations were 4.5-5.0, 5.5 and 4.0 and 60, 55 and 65ºC, respectively. The K M app for Ï -nitrophenyl-α -D-galactopyranoside were 1.32 mM and 0.72 mM for P1 and P2, respectively, while the K M app value for invertase, using sacarose as a substrate was 15.66 mM. Enzyme preparations P1 and P2 maintained their activities after pre-incubation for 3 h at 50ºC and invertase maintained about 90% after 6 h at 55 ºC. P1 and P2 presented different inhibition sensitivities by Ag+, D-galactose, and SDS. All enzyme preparations hydrolyzed galacto-ologosaccharides present in soymolasses.
