Abstract:
Abstract Background and Aims In IgA nephropathy (IgAN), mesangial IgA deposition activates the complement systems and amplifies the local inflammation, resulting in renal injuries. Although previous studies based on repeat biopsies suggested that the change of MEST-C scores of Oxford classification might be related to the prognosis, there have been few reports about immunofluorescence (IF) changes in repeat biopsies. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the relationship between the changes in the degree of glomerular IgA and C3 depositions and clinical prognosis of IgAN based on repeat biopsy

Introduction: Coronary heart disease rates are increased among HIV-infected patients compared to control groups, with a relatively greater increase in women compared to men. Whether a similar pattern with respect to gender is true for ischemic stroke is not known. We assessed the hypothesis that the adjusted hazard ratio for ischemic stroke given HIV infection is greater among women compared to men. Methods: The study was conducted using data from an HIV observational clinical care cohort at a large Boston-based health care system. A control cohort of non-HIV-infected patients was matched in a

Abstract Introduction Cigarette smoking is a well-established risk factor for adverse perinatal outcomes, including preterm birth (PTB), fetal growth restriction (FGR), neonatal intensive care unit admission, and low birth weight. Fortunately, public health initiatives in the United States have contributed to the significant decline in cigarette smoking among pregnant and postpartum patients. However, as the rates of cigarette smoking decline, there has been a recent rise of electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use, or vaping. While many believe that vaping is a safer alternative, e-cigarette ae

Abstract Introduction Pelvic floor muscle (PFM) increased tone is known to play a key role in the physiopathology of different conditions presenting dyspareunia, namely vaginismus, vulvodynia, vulvar lichen sclerosus and atrophicus and genitourinary syndrome of menopause. Although physical therapy is considered first line treatment of PFM increased tone, no protocol thus far has been fully presented on how to manage manual therapy and vaginal dilators to treating this population. Objective To assess the effectiveness of a treatment protocol for women with dyspareunia. Methods Medical charts of
