Abstract:
Seven field trials were completed over a three-year period (2016 to 2018) in southwestern Ontario, Canada, to assess weed control in conventional-till dicamba-resistant (DR) soybean with glyphosate/dicamba (2 : 1 ratio) applied postemergence (POST) at 3 doses (900, 1350, and 1800 g·ae·ha−1) and 3 application timings (up to 5, 15, and 25 cm weeds). There was minimal soybean injury (≤2%) from treatments evaluated. Glyphosate/dicamba applied at application timing of up to 5, 15, and 25 cm weeds, controlled Amaranthus spp. (pigweed spp.) 87–96, 94–99, and 99%; Ambrosia artemisiifolia (common ragweed) 93–99, 97–99, and 99–100%; Chenopodium album (lambsquarters) 89–99, 95–100, and 99–100%; Echinochloa crus-galli (barnyardgrass) 81–84, 94–96, and 96–97%; Setaria faberi (giant foxtail) 37–90, 77–98, and 99–100%; and Setaria viridis (green foxtail) 94–96, 99, and 99–100%, respectively. Additionally, glyphosate/dicamba applied POST at 900, 1350, and 1800 g·ae·ha−1 controlled Amaranthus spp. 90–97, 95–98, and 97–99%; A. artemisiifolia 95–98, 97–99, and 99–100%; C. album 92–99, 95–100, and 98–100%; E. crus-galli 84–88, 93-94, and 95-96%; S. faberi 74–95, 75–97, and 79–98%; and S. viridis 98, 98–99, and 98–100%, respectively. Weed interference reduced DR soybean yield as much as 51% compared to the highest yielding treatments. Results indicate that glyphosate/dicamba applied POST at the label doses can provide an adequate control of troublesome weeds in DR soybean. Weed control was generally most consistent when glyphosate/dicamba was applied at the highest registered dose in Ontario (1800 g·ae·ha−1) and when weeds were up to 25 cm tall.

Abstract:
SUMMARYWe conducted a cross-sectional seroepidemiological study in 2012–2013 to determine the seroprevalence of varicella-zoster virus (VZV) in adolescents and adults living in Korea, where varicella vaccination has been recommended universally at age 12–15 months since 2005. Residual serum samples were collected from 1196 healthy adults and adolescents aged ⩾10 years between November 2012 and March 2013. The fluorescent antibody to membrane antigen (FAMA) test and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were performed to determine the seroprevalence of VZV. The seroprevalences of VZV were compared between six age groups: 10–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, and ⩾60 years. The seroprevalence of VZV in the entire study cohort was 99·1% according to the FAMA test and 93·1% as determined by ELISA. The seroprevalences of the six age groups were as follows: 96·0%, 99·5%, 99·5%, 99·5%, 100%, and 100%, respectively, by the FAMA test, and 83·3%, 93·0%, 93·0%, 97·5%, 94·5%, and 97·5%, respectively, by ELISA. Seroprevalence increased significantly with age (P< 0·001); moreover, the seroprevalence in subjects aged 10–19 years was significantly lower than in other age groups (P< 0·001), as measured by both the FAMA test and ELISA. Thus, strategies to increase protective immunity against VZV in teenagers are necessary.

Abstract:
Field studies were conducted to determine if mesotrione alone or in combinations with other corn herbicides would control horseweed and other winter annual weeds associated with no-till corn. Mesotrione alone controlled horseweed 52 to 80% by 3 wk after treatment (WAT); however, by 7 WAT control diminished to between 37 to 68%, depending on mesotrione rate. Mesotrione at 0.16 kg ai/ha plus atrazine at 0.28 kg ai/ha controlled 99% of horseweed and annual bluegrass and 88% of yellow woodsorrel. Combinations of mesotrione at 0.16 kg/ha plus acetochlor at 1.79 kg ai/ha plus 1.12 kg ai/ha glyphosate (trimethylsulfonium salt of glyphosate) or 0.7 kg ai/ha paraquat provided 93% or greater control of all three weed species. Glyphosate alone also controlled all weed species 97 to 99%, while paraquat alone provided 99% control of annual bluegrass, 72% control of horseweed, and 36% control of yellow woodsorrel. Mixtures of paraquat plus acetochlor improved control of horseweed (93%) and yellow woodsorrel (73%) over control with either herbicide applied alone.

The present work is part of the debate on education and policy and is aimed at analyzing the relationship between education, school curriculum and the symbolic violence in the adolescent perspective of those who meet social-educational measures in the CREAS of Vitória (ES). It aims to analyze and reflect on the curriculum inadequacy in relation to the expectations of these adolescents. The supported hypothesis is that there is generally an inadequate school curriculum, mainly to meet the condition of those students who are under social-educational measures. The research shows that there is a large discrepancy between the regulation of measures and the practice in everyday school life of these adolescents. One of the major obstacles for this adjustment is the absence of leadership, that is, teachers who work with these young people, and the adolescents themselves have not been heard for the formulation of proposals. The result is a totally uninteresting school for them and also ineffective from a pedagogical point of view. In theory, the common theme in the analysis was based on the symbolic violence from Bourdieu and Passeron together with the discussions made by Apple and Candau.

This study discusses the historical memory of the first guerrilla groups from Brazil, organized by the National Revolutionary Movement (MNR), in 1966-1967, supported by Leonel Brizola and Cuba, at Caparaó region, boundaries between the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. It proposes the analysis of the little-known episode of the creation, idealism and outcome that involved the Caparaó Guerrilla, with guerrillas’ memories (most of them were ex-militaries), the agents of repression, the conservative sectors of society and the inhabitants from the communities surrounding the Caparaó National Park, presenting the different perceptions and representations about such Guerrilla. The historical context about this period of Brazilian history will be exposed. As methodology, the concept of memory will be used, which, in its ramifications, deals with oral history and bibliographic analysis, research in newspapers of the period (A Gazeta, O Globo, Jornal do Brasil, A Última Hora, Tribuna da Imprensa, Correio da Manhã, O Estado de São Paulo, Estado de Minas, O Diário da Tarde), in magazines (O Cruzeiro, Opinião e Revista Capixaba), documents from Department of Political and Social Order (DOPS), taking into account Public Arquives from both states (Espírito Santo e Minas Gerais), and documents from the National Information Service (SNI), which belongs to the National Archive.

No. of bitstreams: 1 tese_4466_.pdf: 2425211 bytes, checksum: c06327c9af7896b6c0acfd47735a1def (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-08-05
This present Dissertation - The Colony of Santa Isabel and its immigrants – intend to discuss the installation and aspects of life of Teutons immigrants in the colony of Santa Isabel, the first founded in the Espírito Santo, in the period between 1847 and 1889. To this end, we compare information found in the reports of the President of the Province, reports of the consuls of foreign countries, documents relating to the administration of the colony, records of marriages and criminal‘s process. The research itself has the intention to understand how foreigners, and their descendants, (re)build their existences in a land is completely different from what they were accustomed. We also try to understand, as some spaces of sociability were marked by differences of the group that settled there. Under the name of settler homogenizing (immigrant), or more specifically German settler, who remained strong religious differences reflected in various aspects of life such persons, including territorial, marking the trace of the location as "territory" of Catholics and Protestants. We also observe that the principle of religious tolerance has guided the actions of officers in the Province and the Empire, probably given the economic importance credited for the development of immigration. That means more than installing a Teuta‘s Colony, Santa Isabel is the cultural dynamic image of the "Germans" in the Espírito Santo.

Abstract:
Starting a new piece can become an extremely gratifying process if the options are constrained. The exercises and strategies contained in this chapter are based on the idea of constraints, limiting your framework in order to free your art, and more importantly, to be able to begin a new composition. Exercise 91 proposes the elaboration of a “compositional recipe”; number 92 incorporates the use of a matrix; numbers 93 and 94 deal with the duality of deconstruction-reconstruction. The goal of exercise 95 is to create a compositional plan and number 96 suggests an environment to imagine creative connections between diverse “worlds.” Exercise 97 uses quotations as triggers and 98 provides guidelines for a written paper. The Oblique Strategies of Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt are the source of exercise 99; number 100 provides suggestions on how to incorporate the computer as assistant in the creative process.

Abstract:
The paper presents quantitative estimations of the effect of containers, matrix materials, bentonite barrier and hard rock massif on ecological safety during geologic isolation of longlived RW. The estimations were obtained on the basis of mathematical modelling of radionuclides (Np-237, Tc-99, Pu-239, Zr-93) migration in bentonite barrier, forecasting contaminated underground water migration in fractured zones, experimental data on leaching rates of radionuclides immobilized in boron silicate glasses and mineral-like ceramics. Preliminary data obtained at one of the sites of the Nizhnekansky massif were used in calculations. Is was shown that choice of optimum performances of multibarrier system can ensure safe final isolation of long-lived, not heat-generating RW fractions in geologic disposal located at 600 m depth.

Abstract:
Within a framework of Lupinus varieties and samples assessment, we have found that the growing season of Lupinus albus L. was 93, Lupinus angustifolius L. – 99, and Lupinus luteus L. – 95 days under conditions of the Steppe Crimea. The average yield of white lupin seeds was 1.63 t/ha; blue or narrow-leafed lupin – 1.18 t/ha; yellow lupin – 0.72 t/ha. L. albus is more productive compared to L. angustifolius and L. luteus. The seed yield of all studied varieties and samples of white lupin was higher than that of the standard one ‘Michurinsky’. Samples CH-2-17 and CH-78-16 were the most high-yielding (1.77 and 1.74 t/ha, respectively). Variety ‘Belorozovy 144’ was the most promising among the representatives of narrow-leafed lupin; its yield reached 1.64 t/ha. The best in grain size was white lupin; 1000-grains weight was within the range of 200-222g. Varieties of narrowleafed lupin ‘Belorozovy 144’ and ‘Bryansky kormovoy’ contained the least amount of alkaloids (0.021 and 0.022%, respectively).

Abstract:
Electrostatic precipitator (ESP) modeling development has reached the point in which internal algorithms completely simulate the operation and particulate collection physics of full-scale units. The modern ESPVI 4.0 series of models by using advanced techniques are able to evaluate changes in a precipitator’s configuration and operation to optimize its performance. The author’s applied these techniques to ESPs’ at the Kashira Power Plant near Moscow, having relatively small specific collector area’s (SCA), whose performance will have to be enhanced to meet emerging standards. Advanced modeling techniques include determining electrode and particle properties, operation below back corona onset, and effects of improved electrodes and electrical conditions. The precipitators with collection efficiencies of 88.4 (without natural gas co-firing) up to 93% (with partial co-firing) are shown to be capable of efficiencies of up to 99% by application of modest changes in configuration and operation. The advanced modeling techniques described in this paper are not only important for Kashira, they are also applicable to other power stations requiring performance optimization.

Abstract:
Modular and unitary organisms are two absolutely different types of living beings. They can be seen in all components of the biota, including plants, animals, mushrooms and prokaryotes. Due to the peculiarities of the organization of modular objects, their structural evolution had a pseudo cyclic character. Homeotic transformations became usual. Significant channeling of semophilia revealed itself. Analysis of the results of biological evolution on a planetary scale is current from the perspective of the theory of modular organization.

Full text
Abstract:
Flow-alignment of sheared nematic polymers occurs in various flow-concentration regimes. Analytical descriptions of shear-aligned nematic monodomains have a long history across continuum, mesoscopic and mean-field kinetic models, sacrificing precision at each finer scale. Continuum Leslie-Ericksen theory applies to highly concentrated, weak flows of small molecular weight polymers, giving an explicit macroscopic alignment angle formula dependent only on Miesowicz viscosities. Mesoscopic tensor models apply at all concentrations and shear rates, but explicit “Leslie angle” formulas exist only in the weak shear limit (Cocchini et. al, 90; Bhave et. al, 93; Wang, 97; Rienacker and Hess, 99; Maffettone et. al, 00; Forest and Wang, 02; Forest et. al, 02c; Grecov and Rey, 02), with distinct behavior in dilute versus concentrated regimes. Exact probability distribution functions (pdf’s) of kinetic theory do not exist for highly concentrated nematic states, even without flow, although appealing flow-aligned approximations have been derived (Kuzuu and Doi, 83; Kuzuu and Doi, 84; Semenov, 83; Semenov, 86; Archer and Larson, 95; Kroger and Seller, 95), which offer a molecular theory basis for the Leslie alignment angle. A simpler problem concerns the dilute concentration regime where the unique quiescent equilibrium is isotropic, corresponding to a constant pdf, and whose weak shear deformation is robust to mesoscopic closure approximation (Forest and Wang, 02; Forest et. al, 02c): steady, flow-aligning, weakly anisotropic, and biaxial. The purpose of this paper is to explicitly construct the weakly anisotropic branch of stationary pdf’s by a weak-shear asymptotic expansion of kinetic theory. A second-moment pdf projection confirms mesoscopic model predictions, and further yields explicit Leslie angle and degree of alignment formulas in terms of molecular parameters and normalized shear rate.

In ASME 1993 International Gas Turbine and Aeroengine Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1993. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/93-gt-299.

Full text
Abstract:
Effects of tip clearance, secondary flow, skew and corner stall on the performance of a multi-stage compressor with controlled diffusion blading have been studied experimentally. Measurements between 1% and 99% annulus height were carried out in both the first and the third stages of a four-stage low-speed compressor with repeating-stage blading. Measurements were obtained at a datum rotor tip clearance and at a more aerodynamically desirable lower clearance. The consequence of the modified rotor tip clearance on both rotor and stator performance are examined in terms of loss coefficient and gas exit angle. Stator losses close to the casing are found to increase significantly when the clearance of an upstream rotor is increased. These increased stator losses cause 30% of the stage efficiency reduction which arises with increased rotor tip clearance. The deviation angles due to tip clearance from the multi-stage measurements are found to be similar to data from single stage machines with conventional blading which suggests that the unsteady flow phenomena associated with the multi-stage environment do not dominate the physics of the flow.
