We study the Galois module structure of some abelian extensions of an imaginary quadratic field. Our investigation is motivated by a well-known case in cyclotomic theory and work of M.J. Taylor. We consider extensions <i>N/L</i> where <i>N</i> (resp. <i>L</i> ) is the ray class field of conductor <i>lp{m+r} (resp. {it lp^{r} ) over some imaginary quadratic field ({it l} denotes an odd prime and {it p} belongs to a certain class of prime ideals). Let Г be a metacyclic group of order pq with p and q prime. We shall show that the Г-cohomology and character of a Г-lattice determine its genus. Let N/L be a Galois extension with group Г, then U(_N), the torsion-free units of N, is a Г-lattice and the isomorphism Q o U(_N) = Q o ɅS(_oo) gives its character. In certain cases we can determine its cohomology and thus its genus; in particular, when = h(_N) = 1 and L = Q we show that the genus of U(_N) depends only on the number of non-split, ramified primes in N/L. We shall also investigate U(_N) in the factorizability defect Grothendieck group.

Williamson, Peter. "On the Structure of Nonnegative Semigroups of Matrices." Thesis, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10012/4559.

Abstract:
The results presented here are concerned with questions of decomposability of multiplicative semigroups of matrices with nonnegative entries. Chapter 1 covers some preliminary results which become useful in the remainder of the exposition. Chapters 2 and 3 constitute an exposition of some recent known results on special semigroups. Chapter 2 explores conditions for decomposability of semigroups in terms of conditions derived from linear functionals and in Chapter 3, we give a complete proof of an extension of the celebrated Perron-Frobenius Theorem. No originality is claimed for the result

Abstract:
Cumulative effects, often minor individually but collectively significant, are continually being grappled with by researchers, policy makers and practitioners. Despite this the Canadian approach to cumulative effects assessment is thought by many to be ineffective. In this thesis I investigate the literature that surrounds cumulative effects and uncovered three distinct themes that occur chronologically: genesis, project-based approach and integration. During the genesis phase cumulative effects nomenclature, ideas and frameworks was created. The main theme of this era was to asses these effec

We use low molecular weight conductive polymer and we don’t use salt to fabricate electrospinning nanofibers.
