Abstract:
The goal of our target article is to establish that electrophysiological data constrain models of short-term memory retention operations to schemes in which activated long-term memory is its representational basis. The temporary stores correspond to neural circuits involved in the perception and subsequent processing of the relevant information, and do not involve specialized neural circuits dedicated to the temporary holding of information outside of those embedded in long-term memory. The commentaries ranged from general agreement with the view that short-term memory stores correspond to activated long-term memory (e.g., Abry, Sato, Schwartz, Loevenbruck & Cathiard [Abry etal.], Cowan, Fuster, Grote, Hickok & Buchsbaum, Keenan, Hyönä & Kaakinen [Keenan et al.], Martin, Morra), to taking a definite exception to this view (e.g., Baddeley, Düzel, Logie & Della Sala, Kroger, Majerus, Van der Linden, Colette & Salmon [Majerus et al.], Vallar).

Abstract:
BackgroundPatients admitted to hospital at the weekend appear to be at increased risk of death compared with those admitted at other times. However, a ‘weekend effect’ has rarely been explored in mental health and there may also be other times of year when patients are vulnerable.AimsTo investigate the timing of suicide in high-risk mental health patients.MethodWe compared the incidence of suicide at the weekend v. during the week, and also in August (the month of junior doctor changeover) v. other months in in-patients, patients within 3 months of discharge and patients under the care of crisis resolution home treatment (CRHT) teams (2001–2013).ResultsThe incidence of suicide was lower at the weekends for each group (incidence rate ratio (IRR) = 0.88 (95% CI 0.79–0.99) for in-patients, IRR = 0.85 (95% CI 0.78–0.92) for post-discharge patients, IRR = 0.87 (95% CI 0.78–0.97) for CRHT patients). Patients who died by suicide were also less likely to have been admitted at weekends than during the week (IRR = 0.52 (95% CI 0.45–0.60)). The incidence of suicide in August was not significantly different from other months.ConclusionsWe found evidence of a weekend effect for suicide risk among high-risk mental health patients, but with a 12–15% lower incidence at weekends. Our study does not support the claim that safety is compromised at weekends, at least in mental health services.

Abstract:
With a focus on transport and information, and in recognition of the changing structure of neighbourhoods, South Port Day Links has developed and facilitated creative ways of linking people who are frail, are aged, who experience disabilities, or who are carers in their community. Day Links works at the community level and is successful because of the high level of participation by local residents. It has a primary health care approach with an emphasis on increasing and maintaining the social, as well as physical, aspects of people's lives which allows individuals to participate more fully in their community.

Abstract:
Recordings of noise exposure and annoyance were collected for a group of 148 individuals. The recordings represented three different types of working environments; control rooms (n=57), offices in industry (n=34) and offices in public administration (n=37). In the control rooms the noise was dominated by lower frequencies of a monotonous character, whereas the noise in the offices was more varying. Noise recordings and ratings of annoyance were made at the beginning, the middle and the end of five successive days. The noise exposure levels varied between 39 and 64 dB(A). The results of the study are discussed with respect to differences in the exposure time related changes of annoyance in low frequency and high frequency environments. The results indicate that the annoyance level is stable during a working day and thus, that it is not affected by exposure time. However, annoyance increased somewhat from the first to the fifth working day among the control room group workers, whereas a trend in the opposite direction was seen in the office group.

Abstract:
Objectives To evaluate the extent to which our current provision of diagnostic and interventional radiology services matches existing clinical demand and future government proposals as set out in the Royal College of Radiologists published guidance on providing seven-day acute care. Methods In June 2018, all UK radiology department audit leads were sent a questionnaire designed to assess compliance for each standard of the Royal College of Radiologists published guidance on providing seven-day acute care. Results 135 hospitals (68%) responded. Of those that responded, 96% of departments have a diagnostic radiologist rota for clinicians to discuss acute cases and review imaging and 48% of departments do not have a fully staffed consultant rota 24 h a day, seven days a week for interventional radiology. There is significant variance in MRI radiographer availability within departments, ranging from 18.8% during Saturday/Sunday evening/overnight up to a maximum of 63.9% during Saturday daytime. 11% of departments participate in a regional out of hours cross-organisation reporting rota. 40% of departments have no 24/7 RIS technical support and 34% have no PACS technical support out of hours. Conclusion There is a wide variation in practice across radiology departments in the UK. Although there are some standards that the majority of hospitals are achieving, there is a significant short-fall in fundamental aspects of providing acute seven-day care. The multifactorial nature in which these problems have arisen means there is no easy solution to combat these issues. There is a requirement for significant investment and political commitment to improve staffing and infrastructure in order to address the current situation. Advances in knowledge A UK wide evaluation of the current provision of seven-day working in radiology showing 54% of hospitals do not have a UK working-time regulations compliant Interventional radiology rota, severe lack of availability of acute MRI out of hours and significant deficiencies in providing technical support out of hours. A sustainable and efficient seven-day service is currently not being provided.

Abstract:
Taxi drivers in Korea are known to work long hours and receive low wages. In addition, there are various forms of working, so that they can work 12 hours a day for 2 shifts, work only at night or day time, and drive a car whole day alone (14–15 hours a day). We surveyed their specific hours of work, and smoking and caffeine consumption. In this study, 11 business sites were selected for taxi companies in Seoul considering region and workplace size, and survey was conducted for all taxi drivers belonging to the relevant business sites. The questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics, working hours and working conditions, violence experience, emotional labor status, physical and mental health status, sleep health, traffic accidents and traffic violation experience. A total of 698 respondents (39.6%) answered the questionnaire. 76.2% were working 25–26 days a month. 49.2% of the workers worked more than 60 hours per week and less than 70 hours per week. 52.8% of drivers were current smokers, and 65.9% of those who work fixed night shift were current smokers. The rate of taking caffeinated beverages was 90.4%, of which 75.5% were taking six or more cups a day. In the form of working for 14–15 hours a day alone and working in fixed night shift, more than 6 cups were consumed.Taxi drivers are forced to work long hours on their own due to their low wage structure, and the frequency of smoking and caffeine ingestion is very high in order to maintain long working hours. In order to improve this situation, the introduction of the monthly salary system and regulation of working time should be applied.

Abstract:
RETAINING EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHERS in long day care (LDC) is a pressing challenge for Australia's reform agenda in early childhood education and care (ECEC). Case study research with five early childhood teachers in LDC revealed individual and contextual factors that enabled and challenged the teachers to stay in LDC. Drawing on social constructivist approaches, the research contributes empirically based insights that support the recruitment and retention of early childhood teachers in LDC.
