I examine ‘herders – urban residents’ conflicts. Herders roam their cattle from outskirts to city roads, disrupting traffic and leaving behind trails of excrement and offensive smells causing dangerous nuisance. I argue that the new practice of cattle herders’ encroachments on city roads poses some socio-economic risks such as environmental decay, air pollution, displacement of urban livelihoods, road accidents and non-violent conflicts. Outer segments of vertebrate photoreceptor cells contain an abundantly expressed membrane protein that migrates with an apparent molecular mass of 220-290 kDa by SDS gel electrophoresis. Twenty years ago, immunocytochemical studies localized the 290 kDa frog protein to the rims of the photoreceptor disks and since then it has been generally believed that this rim protein is responsible for the filaments observed that link adjacent disks and/or disks to the plasma membrane. Due to its localization and abundance in the outer segment, this protein is likely a good candidate for involvement

Abstract:
Accelerated bridge construction (ABC) methods have been increasingly used in recent years to reduce the impact of construction operations on traffic and mobility. ABC methods, however, often require a higher initial cost, more planning, and additional design coordination. Several tools have been developed to assist decision-makers in the selection of conventional staged construction or ABC methods based on bridge characteristics and requirements. Most of these existing tools, however, are qualitative and depend on the subjective opinion of decision-makers/experts. Accordingly, there is a need

Abstract:
Obtaining timely information across the state roadway network is important for monitoring the condition of the roads and operating characteristics of traffic. One of the most significant challenges in winter roadway maintenance is identifying emerging or deteriorating conditions before significant crashes occur. For instance, almost all modern vehicles have accelerometers, anti-lock brake (ABS) and traction control systems. This data can be read from the Controller Area Network (CAN) of the vehicle, and combined with GPS coordinates and cellular connectivity, can provide valuable on-the-ground

The habitats within Biscayne National Park consist of rocky coast lines, Biscayne Bay (a shallow water bay), over 40 mangrove islands, and coral reefs. This ecosystem lies near the large metropolitan area of Miami, suburban development, a nuclear power plant, and has several canals that drain from the mainland into Biscayne National Park or close to park boundaries. As a result of the park?s proximity to a large population, it endures heavy usage. The park is a popular destination for anglers and boaters. All the aforementioned factors put stressors on the park ecosystem. The South Florida/Car

Abstract:
The Southeast Coast Network (SECN), with the support of the National Park Service (NPS) Vegetation Mapping Inventory Program, described and mapped vegetation at Cumberland Island National Seashore (CUIS). This mapping effort was accomplished through collaboration with the Southeast regional office of NatureServe (Raleigh/Durham, N.C.). The mapping area was 15,163.4 hectares (ha), encompassing the entire boundary of the seashore plus an additional buffered area. NatureServe ecologists identified plant associations for the seashore and a remote sensing specialist from the Southeast Coast Network

Bridges often serve as key links in local and national transportation networks. Bridge closures can result in severe costs, not only in the form of repair or replacement, but also in the form of economic losses related to medium- and long-term interruption of businesses and disruption to surrounding communities. In addition, continuous functionality of bridges is very important after any seismic event for emergency response and recovery purposes. Considering the importance of these structures, the associated structural design philosophy is shifting from collapse prevention to maintaining funct
