I argue that the new practice of cattle herders’ encroachments on city roads poses some socio-economic risks such as environmental decay, air pollution, displacement of urban livelihoods, road accidents and non-violent conflicts. Abstract:
Field measurements and numerical modelling were used to study the acoustic performance of a low screen in an urban road setting. The results show the usefulness of low screens as well as suggests improvements in screen design. For the measurements, an acoustic screen built up from concrete modules was temporarily installed beside a small park on the reservation between a two-lane road and a track for walking and cycling. A larger traffic system, of which the two-lane road is a part, determines the daytime equivalent noise level within the urban area. The screen height was about 1.4 m as measur

Professional road crash investigation, complemented by intelligent analysis and dynamic actions provide the foundation for road safety reform. However, to date, the real potential resulting from police investigative findings have not been fully realised due to the lack of streamlined connectivity from the crash scene to the reform process. Such deficiencies include inadequate investigations, inadequate data management, convoluted processes, system delays, inadequate analysis and limited immediate and mid-term actions which should be generated following thorough and efficient investigations. Abstract In recent years, around the world, there has been work underway on systems, which will increase not only the comfort of traveling but, above all, the safety and reliability of the road traffic. The systems in this field, designed to replace human beings in the future, thus eliminating their mistakes on the road, already have their prototypes. However, these prototypes are still being improved and require a lot of work so they could operate fully and reliably. The subject of the publication is a compilation of two new concepts in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems. These concep

Based on the simulation program, it is possible to modify a shape of a building façade to obtain favourable conditions of acoustical climate. The favourable conditions are searched for in a form of a recess in a building façade creating a vertical niche. Observing the recess parameters and the building position in relation to the road, the range of the total positive effect is defined. The applied simulation program considers a road structure and traffic composition as well as influence of surrounding objects. Adjusting the modelling accuracy, the simulation model validation range is defined.

This paper investigates noise annoyance from wind turbines of different sizes and in different acoustic surroundings. A listening test was conducted where wind turbine noises were rated alone and together with background sounds from a deciduous forest, a busy city and road traffic. A magnitude production procedure was implemented which showed high correlation between repeated measurements and the results were analysed using A-weighted sound levels, signal-to-noise ratios and time varying loudness and partial loudness. Ratings for wind turbine sound heard alone showed no coherent statistically

This work is part of a study dealing with city-dwellers' quality of life. Noise is known to be an important factor influencing the quality of life. In order to diagnose it properly, we propose a noise monitoring system of urban areas. It is based on the use of large microphone arrays in order to extract the radiated sound field from each passing-by vehicle in typical urban scenes. A machine learning algorithm is trained so as to classify these extracted signals in clusters combining both the vehicle type and the driving conditions. This system makes it possible to monitor the evolution of the
