Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to decipher the means by which the identities of particular people, specifically unaccompanied and separated child asylum-seekers, are socially constructed as risk. Theorized here as "risk identity", this has occurred within a global context increasingly preoccupied with security. Racialized and imbued with ideological notions of citizenship, this preoccupation and the anxieties contained within it, are effectively yet unduly transferred onto individuals, who for a variety of reasons not innately related to security, are seen as undesirable. The "risk identity" classification becomes the means by Which their exclusion is legitimized and perpetuated. The increased movement of unaccompanied and separated children across international borders has occurred within this global context. Positioned largely in opposition to citizens of the industrialized west, unaccompanied and separated children seeking asylum in Canada are constructed as risk in myriad ways. Based on 13 interviews, 9 with stakeholders and 4 with youth, this study highlights four interconnected categories of risk, which serve to construct unaccompanied and separated minors as risk. These are anti-refugee discourse, anti-youth discourse, as it relates to juvenile justice discourse, prejudicial attitudes and the fear of difference, and securitization discourse.

AbstractIntroduction: - An estimated number of 40 to 80 new-born babies are being abandoned by their mother in Kampala –Uganda annually. These children are usually dumped into dust bins, on streets, on hospital facilities, in bushes or in pit latrines. Aim:-The aim of this study was to investigate the goals of the organizations/institutions working with child abandonment in Kampala, to find out whom they collaborated with, to examine how the staff working with the organization/institution perceive the women who abandon and issue behind. Furthermore their personal incentives to continue to work with the problem, Method: A qualitative approach was used in this study and face to face semi-structured interview were conducted, since this was the best way to explore feelings, thoughts and attitudes of the respondents who gave answers to complicated questions. Research Questions: What are the main goals of the organizations/institutions and with whom do they collaborate with? What are their major hinders and needs? Do they see any progress? What are their perceptions of the mothers who abandon their new-born babies as well as the issues behind this cruel action? When did the staff became aware of this problem and what are the incentives driving them to continue do this work? Results: The results of the study were consistent with the research namely; the role of the organizations was reported being rescuing of the abandoned babies. First they are taken to the hospital during the first critical hours, thereafter are taken. to children court to get a permission to keep them in the children’s home; or find adoptive parent for these children who can give them love, care and education. Tracing mothers or family members was on the agenda, and in some case eventual re-unification was possible. The hinder which were met by the organization while doing their work were financial resources, misinformation about the organizations in the community, poor flow of information, lack of facilities to accommodate abandoned children, and poor collaboration with the government. Conclusion: The organizations/institutions are doing a good work, but procedures which are used at the moment are unfortunately not enough to reduce the problem. Therefore acute and new even radical approaches are needed to be put into consideration.

The issue of abandoned children in Austrian government policy in Venice The purpose of this study was to analyse two aspects of the same problem: the issue of the external wet nurse, meaning giving custody of abandoned children to carers outside the foundling hospital, and the lifelong maintenance of these children. However, the study of source documents brought to light additional issues: Was the abandoned child legitimate or illegitimate? Was the increase in abandoned children, alleged by the Austrian government, real or it was a perception due to increased public expenditure on the maintenance of abandoned children? What archival sources give insight into the reasons why thousands of parents abandoned their children? Did the Austrian Government propose an alternative to the complex and costly organisation of wet-nursing in rural areas? What kind of abuse was committed, and to what extent, against these children and of treasury funds? What was the purpose of the closing of the Casa di Sant'Alvise? What laws were enacted by the government, in favour of abandoned children? And, above all, what value did the Austrian government place on the life of an abandoned child? To all of these important questions, this research has attempted to provide an answer<br>La questione degli esposti nella politica del Governo austriaco a Venezia Scopo del lavoro è stato quello di analizzare due aspetti dello stesso problema: la questione del baliatico esterno, ossia l’affidamento del bambino abbandonato a una balia fuori dell’Istituto, e il mantenimento “a vita” delle esposte. Tuttavia lo studio dei documenti ha portato alla luce ulteriori questioni: Il bambino abbandonato era legittimo o illegittimo? L’aumento degli abbandoni, lamentato dal Governo austriaco, era reale oppure si trattò di una ‘percezione’ dovuta all’aumento della spesa pubblica per il mantenimento degli esposti? Quali fonti archivistiche testimoniano i motivi per cui migliaia di genitori abbandonarono i propri figli? Alla complessa e dispendiosa organizzazione del baliatico in campagna, venne proposto un altro metodo dal Governo austriaco? To constitute the research design, strategies such as participator observation, semi-structured interviews, sentence-completion techniques, drawings and stories from children s books were used with five children, being three males and two females. Vigotsky s historic-cultural approach constitutes the theoretical basis upon which this research was developed, interconnected with González Rey s epistemology and qualitative methodology, and his content analysis approach for analyzing children s speech. A brief historic overview was made on the issue of abandoned children in Brazil, in which historical contexts are presented up to the present time, as well as the conditions for institutionalizing children before and after the ECA, the Child and Adolescent Act. Findings from the studied children and their speech are that although ECA guarantees children a place as subjects with rights, an adult centered view still dominates and tries to shut children s voices. This research, thus, tries to understand the significance and meanings of abandonment for the children from that particular instituion and how it echoes in the constitution of their subjectivities. The contents revealed from the analysis of the children s speech might alert the authorities about the importance of having children participate actively in the planning of public policies related to children, as well as the importance of the investment, within the institutions, not only on the pedagogical and structural factors, but also on the human factor, considered beyond the professional skills, in order to include the caring and emotional dimensions which are fundamental to the constituion of self-governing and healthy subjectivities.<br>Este estudo tem como objetivo a compreensão dos significados e sentidos do abandono atribuídos por crianças que se encontram em uma instituição de abrigo na cidade de Goiânia-GO. Na construção do corpus da pesquisa, foram utilizadas a observação participante e as entrevistas semi-estruturadas, técnicas de complementação de frases, desenhos e história de livros infantis, com cinco crianças, sendo três do sexo masculino e duas do sexo feminino. A abordagem histórico-cultural de Vigotsky constitui a base teórica sobre a qual se desenvolve a pesquisa, em articulação com a epistemologia e metodologia qualitativa de González Rey, e a proposta de análise de conteúdo do mesmo autor para estudar a fala das crianças. Realizou-se um breve panorama da história do abandono no Brasil, em que se resgatam os contextos históricos até os dias atuais, condições da institucionalização de crianças, antes e depois do Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente ECA. Constata-se na fala das crianças pesquisadas, que, apesar da proposta do ECA de assegurar à criança o lugar de sujeito de direitos, predomina a visão adultocêntrica que invariavelmente tenta calar a voz da criança. Busca-se assim, compreender os significados e sentidos do abandono para as crianças naquela instituição e sua repercussão na constituição de sua subjetividade. Os conteúdos revelados na análise das falas das crianças podem alertar as autoridades sobre a importância da participação ativa da criança no planejamento de políticas públicas que a ela dizem respeito, assim como da importância do investimento, dentro das instituições não só no fator pedagógico ou estrutural, mas no fator humano, considerando além de sua capacitação profissional, as dimensões afetivas e emocionais, imprescindíveis na constituição de subjetividades autônomas e saudáveis.

Abstract:
Whisper was a reject, living in a world so polluted and damaged that many humans and animals alike were born with defects. She'd grown up in an outcast camp far from any village, and those who lived in the camp were like her: disfigured. But on her sixteenth birthday, Whisper's father came to take her back to the village where she was to fill her mother's vacated spot and perform duties for the family. Her job was to cook, clean, wash the clothes, and maintain the family property. At night she was chained to the doghouse. Her uncle decided that Whisper could make far more money for the family by other means. He escorted her to the city where he brought her to the Purgatory Palace which was full of people like her, people with disfigurements who had been abandoned by their families and lived in the city for one reason only -to beg for money. Whisper refused to beg, and instead used the violin she'd received from her mother, and played songs for the money she earned. This became tolerable for a time. But Whisper missed her forest home with an ache as cold as the city and she missed the other rejects from the camp in the woods. When she was accused of attacking a store attendant, she found herself in jail. She was rescued by Solomon, a man who had heard her songs on the street corners and said that she played as only a genius could. He offered her a place at The Conservatory of Music, where she would study the violin with him. Whisper accepted this offer but even though she was warm, safe, and played music every day, she did not fit in at The University and knew that she never would. This is a young adult novel about Whisper, trying to find a place in a world that doesn't accept her. It is a story of rejection, pollution and social status. Whisper discovers that through perseverance, friends and determination, anyone can find a way to fit.

A metodologia consistiu em acompanhar o cotidiano de crianças e adolescentes por meio do método cartográfico, que busca acompanhar e realizar a leitura dos campos de força e sentidos existentes entre os atores da pesquisa. A partir do conhecimento do cotidiano da casa lar, chegou-se a eixos de análise que trataram: a) das relações entre disciplina e afetos; b) sobre os sentimentos que atravessam as relações na Casa Lar; c) das perspectivas para o futuro e para a saída da Casa Lar d) a dimensão do direito a história no processo de acolhimento. Como considerações finais, percebe-se que no processo de acolhimento institucional estão presentes dois modos de significar a infância, que estão em constante conflito e diálogo: uma significada pelas pessoas ao redor que pensam e tratam as crianças de acordo com a visão delas (infância pensada e vivida pela Casa Lar), que é a infância sofrida, abandonada, marcada pelo abandono e violência, e a infância vivida e narrada pelos moradores da Casa Lar. A maneira que a instituição tem de enxergar a infância se reflete na maneira como ela trata as crianças e jovens: são crianças de uma classe social baixa, que carregam o estigma de serem de famílias pouco convencionais, vasculhadas e acompanhadas pelos mais diversos tipos de dispositivos de control... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo)<br>Abstract: The present thesis attempted to understand the implications generated on childhood and the process of institutional host of children and institutionally accepted in a city of the interior of Paraná. The methodology consisted of monitoring children and adolescent's daily life with the use of cartographic method. Starting from the facts(data) of the nursing home daily life, we ended up to analysis axes that dealt about: a)the relationship between discipline and affection; b)the feelings that interweave relationships in Casa Lar; c)the prospects for the future and leaving of Casa Lar; d) the extent to right to history in the reception( hosting) process. As a final consideration, two approaches to represent infancy which are in constant conflict and dialogue in the process of institutional protection are evident. The first one is signified by the people around them that consider and deal with the children according to their perception; that is, a suffered and abandoned childhood marked by neglect and violence. The second one is childhood experienced and narrated by the people (inhabitants) of Casa Lar. The way the institution perceives childhood is reflected in the way it treats children and young people. They are low social class children who carry the stigma of being from poorly structured families, scrutinized and violated by social control devices when they are out of the institutional reception (hosting) system. In these six intertwining fictional short stories, one fateful decision ripples through the lives of multiple generations. Annie is an unmarried young mother during World War II when she leaves her young daughter in the care of a childless couple. When Annie fails to return for the child after days and then years, a new and fragile family is formed only to be tested by Annie's eventual return. The other stories in this collection follow the daughters and granddaughters who have to navigate their own lives in the shadow of this abandonment. Spanning multiple decades, Annie's decision remains a pivotal psychological scar imprinted in her descendants and those left to care for the child that she could not.

Qual encontro é necessário? Qual encontro é permitido? Há educação na rua? Esta pesquisa apresenta um olhar sobre o fazer de um grupo de educadores sociais e meninos de rua, em Campinas/SP, e tem como objetivo inventariar e analisar suas práticas educativas, entre os anos de 2006 a 2010. Há meninos e há educadores nas ruas. Uma relação acontece... Um entrelugar efêmero brota... Para regar o broto: arte. Canetinhas, papéis, pipas, varetas, tintas, olhos, corpos, trabalho, suor. Observa-se a relação estabelecida entre esses pares, esses corpos educadores entre si. O encontro suficientemente bom de educadores e meninos os levam a construir saberes e metodologias que mostram possibilidades além rua, da droga, da contenção. This research provides a glimpse into the making of street educators and street children in Campinas, and aims to survey and analyze educational practices carried out by educators, between the years 2006 to 2010. There are boys and there are educators in the streets, a relationship happens. The space between ephemeral flows. To water the bud: art. Pens, papers, pipes, rods, paints, eyes, bodies, work, sweat. Observe the relationship between these pairs, these bodies between themselves educators. The finding enough good teachers and boys take them to build knowledge and methodologies that show possibilities beyond the street, drugs, restraint. Discutimos como uma determinada urbanização corporativa, que valoriza e desvaloriza o espaço urbano conforme os interesses das grandes empresas, provoca o deslocamento de algumas crianças e adolescentes das regiões e cidades periféricas para as áreas centrais, buscando no espaço público maneiras diversas de viver a vida privada. Igualmente, discutimos como os usos do espaço urbano das áreas centrais novamente afastam e escondem crianças e adolescentes em situação de rua. Para tanto, apresentamos as transformações da situação de rua de crianças e adolescentes imbricadas ao processo de urbanização da cidade, desde a sua constituição até os dias atuais, considerando a relação existente entre crianças e adolescentes em situação de rua e as políticas sociais e urbanas. Analisamos, ainda, como as recentes políticas sociais incidem na cidade, debatendo o adensamento normativo ocorrido a partir da década de 1980 que modificou as ações direcionadas aos pobres, os recentes planos federais para diminuição dos índices de pobreza, e as adaptações ocorridas na execução das normas no momento em que estas se territorializam na cidade de Campinas<br>Abstract: This dissertation proposes to analyze the uses of the territory and the process of urbanization from the existence of homeless children and adolescents in the city of Campinas / SP. We discuss how a particular corporate urbanization, which values and devalues the urban space according to the interests of big business, causes the displacement of some children and teenagers from regions and cities peripheral to the central areas, seeking in the public space in different ways to live a private life .Also, we discuss how the uses of urban space in the central areas back away and hide homeless children and adolescents. Therefore, we present the transformations of homeless children and adolescents intertwined in the process of urbanization of the city, since its establishment until today, considering the relationship between homeless children and adolescents and the social and urban policies. Cette thèse étudie le phénomène de l'infanticide et de l'abandon d'enfants en Chine, de 1689 à1840, à travers les descriptions qu'en font les missionnaires catholiques, dans leur oeuvre d'évangélisation des enfants, qu'il s'agisse des jésuites ou bien des prêtres des Missions Étrangères de Paris. Nous confrontons ces témoignages avec d'autres sources, de nature différente, afin d'approcher la réalité du phénomène, ses raisons, les réactions qu'il suscite et les actions menées par les autorités chinoises et les missionnaires européens. Nous mettons en lumière l'oeuvre de l'enfance et la place majeure du baptême pour les missionnaires catholiques.En explorant une riche documentation, nous présentons, dans une première partie, les points de vue différents des missionnaires catholiques, d'autres voyageurs occidentaux, ainsi que de lettrés et de mandarins chinois. Les missionnaires, en diffusant leurs témoignages, eux,cherchent aussi à attirer des ressources pour secourir les enfants misérables. Les écrits de voyageurs britanniques s'attachent à démontrer la supériorité des Européens face à la« barbarie chinoise ». Les petites filles sont les premières victimes de l'infanticide et de l'exposition, d'abord en raison du statut d'infériorité de la femme, et d'une série de causes conjoncturelles autant que structurelles. Cette partie présente aussi l'organisation des hospices chinois, à travers des sources chinoises abondantes, rarement utilisées par l'historiographie occidentale, en la comparant à celle des hospices occidentaux.Espérant convertir le plus grand nombre de païens possible, les missionnaires catholiques se consacrent essentiellement au baptême des petits enfants moribonds. Ils se soucient d'abord de ces âmes qui, en échappant aux limbes des enfants, vont glorifier éternellement le Seigneur.Avec l'interdiction du christianisme en Chine, au XVIIIe siècle, après la querelle des rites, ils jugent préférable de recruter des catéchistes pour baptiser les enfants exposés mourants, plutôt que de fonder des hospices catholiques. Des femmes converties constituent alors un levier majeur de cette oeuvre. La situation change après les Guerres de l'opium. À partir de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle, la mission française peut bénéficier de la protection de son État.L'originalité de cette recherche est de convoquer une approche anthropologique, d'histoire du genre et d'histoire religieuse, tout en s'insérant dans le contexte historique de la mission asiatique et globale, ainsi que du processus de la colonisation. Nous espérons que cette étude offrira un nouvel éclairage sur l'image de la Chine aux yeux des Européens à l'époque de 'expansion de la civilisation occidentale et, en même temps, qu'elle contribuera à enrichir la compréhension de la différence entre la culture occidentale catholique et la culture chinoise<br>This thesis deals with the phenomenon of infanticide and abandoned children in China from1689 to 1840, through the descriptions of the Catholic missionaries, and the evangelization ofchildren by the Jesuits and the priests of the Paris Foreign Missions. By comparing thedifferent visions of various sources, this study attempts to reveal the reality of thephenomenon and its reasons, its reactions and the actions taken by the Chinese authority, aswell as by the European missionaries. It also highlights the work of childhood and theimportance of baptism for these Catholic missionaries.By exploring a rich literature, we bring, in the first part, different points of view brought byCatholic missionaries, by other Western travelers, and by the Chinese scholars and mandarins.The missionaries' testimonies are meant to attract more resources to help these miserablechildren. The writings of British travelers show the superiority of Europeans versus "Chinesebarbarism". Small girls are the first victims of infanticide and exposure, which is explained bythe status of inferiority of women, and by a series of cyclical and structural causes. This partalso presents the organization of Chinese hospices by comparing it to that of Westernhospices through abundant Chinese sources, which are barely used by Westernhistoriography.Hoping to convert as many pagans as possible, these Catholic missionaries devotedthemselves to this work of baptism of moribund children. They cared first of all about thesesouls who, by escaping the limbo of the children, will eternally glorify the Lord. In thecontext of the prohibition of Christianity in China in the eighteenth century after the RitesControversies, they thought it would be more appropriate to recruit some catechists to baptizethe dying exposed children than to establish the Catholic hospices. The Christian women werean important force in this work as well. The situation has been changed after the Opium Wars.From the second half of the nineteenth century, the French mission was under the protectionof its state.The originality of this research is to bring together anthropology, gender history and religioushistory, and to insert the study into the historical context of the asian mission and the globalmission, as well as the process of colonization. We hope that this research will shed new lighton the image of China in the eyes of Europeans at the time of the expansion of Westerncivilization and, at the same time, that it will contribute to enriching the understanding of thedifference between Western Catholic culture and Chinese culture

El índice de casos que surgen a diario sobre el maltrato infantil ha incrementado en los últimos años haciéndolo alarmante. Estas situaciones llevan a los menores a alejarse de sus familias y partir del hogar a una temprana edad, por lo que solo les queda refugiarse en las calles y obligándolos a saltar etapas importantes en su vida como lo es la infancia. Es por ello que el gobierno busca ayudar a esta población infantil en riesgo y vulnerable, brindándoles alimentación y protección. Sin embargo, las infraestructuras que buscan atender estos casos no cumplen ni son adecuados para brindar atención a los infantes según un estudio realizado por la defensoría del pueblo. Es por ello que el proyecto busca identificar las principales características de este usuario infante, así como sus principales necesidades y requerimientos básicos para una mejor calidad de vida. Por lo que el principal reto del proyecto es generar un nuevo planteamiento o reinterpretación al paquete funcional típico de la tipología de albergue incluyendo un área de psicológia para el tratamiento de mejora del infante, con la finalidad que este se integre de manera progresiva con la sociedad y posiblemente se integre a nuevas familias. Para cumplir este objetivo se diseñó este centro de asistencia infantil dotado de espacios flexibles y adaptables con la intención de cambiar la percepción del infante que tiene por un espacio cerrado y rígido a uno libre donde pueda expresarse sin restricciones y desarrollar su interrelación con otros infantes y otros usuarios del proyecto.<br>The rate of cases that arise daily about child abuse has increased in recent years making it alarming. These situations lead minors to move away from their families and leave home at an early age, so they only have to take refuge in the streets and forcing them to skip important stages in their lives such as childhood. That is why the government seeks to help this child population at risk and vulnerable, providing them with food and protection. However, the infrastructures that seek to attend these cases are neither compliant nor adequate to provide care for infants, according to a study conducted by the Ombudsman's Office. That is why the project seeks to identify the main characteristics of this infant user, as well as their main needs and basic requirements for a better quality of life. Therefore, the main challenge of the project is to generate a new approach or reinterpretation of the typical functional package of the shelter typology, including a psychological center for the treatment of improvement of the infant, with the purpose that this is progressively integrated with society and possibly join new families. Este estudo, fundamentado numa perspectiva comparatista, estabelecendo conexões entre Literatura Infantil/Juvenil e sociedade, procura apresentar possíveis relações interdiscursivas e intertextuais existentes entre a parábola A Volta do Filho Pródigo, As Aventuras de Pinóquio de Carlo Collodi, Reinações de Narizinho de Monteiro Lobato, Eu & Mim Mesmo de Flávio e de Souza e Tchau de Lygia Bojunga. Por meio desses textos, que se mostram como narrativas simbólicas, pretendeu-se examinar a maneira pela qual a literatura para crianças vem a imbricar processos de reprodução e renovação de valores sociais, enfatizando os processos discursivos, em especial, os processos que colocam em discussão valores provenientes de uma educação que privilegia a moral exemplar. O trabalho encontrou suporte nas ideias sobre dialogismo de Mikhail Bakhtin, levando em conta questões de ordem interacionista e aquelas referentes aos diálogos intertextuais, procurando evidenciar princípios morais e ideológicos veiculados por tais textos, traços do discurso monológico e polifônico, elementos que contribuem para confirmar o fato de que a Literatura para crianças e jovens não se apresenta como uma arte inocente, mas desempenha papel significativo na sociedade como instrumento transmissor de ideologias, assumindo grande relevância na construção de identidades e na maneira de pensar e apreender o mundo.<br>This study based on a comparative perspective, establishing connections between childrens Literature/youth and society, presents interdiscursive and intertextual relations between the parable of Return of the Prodigal Son, The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, Reinações de Narizinho by Monteiro Lobato, I & Myself by Flavio de Souza and Bye by Lygia Bojunga. Through these symbolic narratives was possible to examine the way in which childrens literature imbricates processes of reproduction and renewal of social values, and the social discourses that show values from an education which sets a moral standard. This study finds support in Mikhail Bakhtins dialogism ideas, taking into account issues arising interactionism, which make reference to intertextual dialogue, putting in evidence the moral and ideologic principles , and monologic and polyphonic elements to show that literature for children and young adults is not presented as an innocent form of art in society. In fact, it plays a significant role in society, as an ideology transmitter, helping to build identities, and new ways to learn and to look into our world.

Esta pesquisa possui como tema o abandono de crianças e adolescentes em Instituições Totais. Teve início em 2010, a partir de uma notícia publicada pela Folha de São Paulo sobre uma menina que se encontrava esquecida em uma instituição psiquiátrica há mais de quatro anos. Além dela, outras crianças vivem situações semelhantes, pelo país afora. São crianças que se encontram esquecidas pelas famílias e pelas instituições. Sem formação e cuidados adequados, estão expostas a diversas situações de abuso e violência de todos os gêneros. Tal histórico e experiência propiciam a exploração sexual e econômica, a extrema marginalização nas ruas e em instituições psiquiátricas, além de constantes passagens por Fundações Casa. Neste sentido, um discurso que legitima a exclusão é construído para responder à completa ausência de reflexão sobre decisões banalizadas que operam à revelia do sujeito humano. É um discurso que legitima o desamparo a fim de se manter a exclusão. Mesmo diante de uma aparência de inclusão, os sistemas sociais de assistência àqueles que se encontram em situação de desamparo operam de modo impessoal e segregador. A partir da análise de um discurso construído ao longo da trajetória institucional da adolescente, desde seu nascimento até completar dezenove anos, por meio da consulta de seu processo judicial, foram levantadas importantes questões a respeito do caráter político do sofrimento psíquico e de como a subjetividade é negada e mortificada pela legitimação de um discurso médico-jurídico por meio da construção de uma identidade doente e reduzida a esta finalidade. A institucionalização do saber psicológico assume a totalidade das funções de controle social que determinam o padrão de conduta socialmente aceito e a partir dessa regulação, as condutas perturbadoras que precisam ser assistidas dentro dos inúmeros serviços maquiadamente assistencialistas que trazem em seu bojo os fundamentos da exclusão e do aniquilamento do suposto sujeito psíquico<br>This research has as its theme the abandonment of children and adolescents in Total Institutions. Started in 2010, from some news published by Folha de Sao Paulo, about a girl who was forgotten in a psychiatric institution for more than four years. There are other children living in similar situation all over the country who are neglected by their families and by Institutions. Without training and proper care, these children are exposed to several situations of abuse and violence of all kind. Such historical and experience give rise to economic and sexual exploitation, the extreme marginalization in the streets and in psychiatric institutions, and also for their attendance at House Foundations. In this sense, a discourse that legitimizes the exclusion is built to respond to a complete absence of reflection over trivialized decisions which operate in absentia of human being. It is a discourse that legitimizes the helplessness in order to maintain the exclusion. Even before an apparent inclusion, the social assistance systems to those who find themselves in a helplessness situation operate in an impersonal and segregationist way. From the analysis of a speech built along the trajectory of institutional teenager, from birth till nineteen, by consulting his lawsuit, there were raised important issues concerning to a political character of a suffering psychic and how the subjectivity is denied and mortified by the legitimation of a speech medico legal through a construction of a sick identity and reduced to this purpose. The institutionalization of psychological knowledge takes over all of the social functions that determine a standard of social behavior accepted from that regulation, disturbing comportment which need to be assisted within numerous pretended to be social care services that bring in its concept the fundaments of exclusion and annihilation of the alleged psychic person

L’abandon de l’enfant se présente sous deux jours contraires : récurrent dans la mythologie et la littérature, il n’est quasiment pas mentionné en tant que fait social dans les textes grecs d’époques archaïque et classique. L’historien possède fort peu de sources pour déterminer les circonstances et l’ampleur de l’exposition des nouveau-nés dans la civilisation grecque. Les ouvrages modernes la présentent souvent comme un acte anodin et fréquent, au point que les philosophes la préconiseraient à des fins eugénistes. Pourtant, une analyse rigoureuse des textes permet de dresser un bilan plus nuancé. Le jugement des chercheurs paraît influencé à tort par l’omniprésence des enfants abandonnés dans la littérature. Depuis les mythes fondateurs jusqu’à la Comédie nouvelle, des héros sont exposés à la naissance après un viol, un oracle ou un revers de fortune. Une étude littéraire de ce thème consistera alors à repérer des constantes transgénériques et des jeux d’intertextualité, mais aussi à mettre en lumière les spécificités de chaque genre. L’abandon se révèle ainsi être un motif polymorphe et non propre à la tragédie, malgré la célébrité actuelle d’Œdipe<br>The abandonment of children is paradoxically twofold : though recurrent in mythology and literature, it is almost not mentioned as a social fact in Greek texts from the Archaic and Classical periods. Historians have very few sources at their disposal to determine the circumstances and the extent of newborn exposure in Greek civilization. Modern works often present it as a widespread act, to such a point that philosophers would advocate it for eugenic purposes. However, a rigorous analysis of the texts leads to more moderate conclusions. In their assessments, the scholars seem to be wrongly influenced by the omnipresence of abandoned children in literature. From the founding myths to the New comedy, heroes are exposed at birth after a rape, an oracle or a reversal of fortune. A literary study of that theme will then consist in spotting transgeneric constants and intertextual hints, but also in bringing to light the particularities of each genre. So abandonment appears to be a polymorphic pattern, not a distinctive feature of tragedy, in spite of the current celebrity of Oedipus

O abandono e os abusos vivenciados podem interferir no desenvolvimento psicológico das crianças. O presente estudo teve como objetivo descrever o perfil das crianças vitimizadas do ponto de vista dos dados sociodemográficos e verificar os itens mais frequentes em Desenhos de Figura Humana (DFH) de crianças abandonadas, negligenciadas, sexualmente abusadas e fisicamente abusadas a partir da comparação com os DFHs de crianças que não tiveram essas vivências. Participaram deste estudo 378 crianças e adolescentes, com idades entre 6 anos e 12 anos, 11 meses e 29 dias de idade e nível sócio-econômico baixo ou médio-baixo. Os participantes foram divididos em dois grupos: grupo clínico (281) e grupo de comparação (97). O grupo clínico, para fins de análise, foi agrupado com base nas diferentes tipologias de vitimização sofridas. A idade média para o primeiro ingresso no acolhimento institucional é de 6,8 anos para meninas e 7,5 anos para meninos, sendo que 35,6% dos participantes do grupo clínico vivem em um abrigo por um a três anos. As vivências de vitimização faziam parte da vida da maioria das crianças e adolescentes do grupo clínico há mais de um ano e 56,2% das vítimas de abuso sexual e de abuso físico sofriam violação sistemática. O DFH refletiu indicadores dessas vivências. A identificação dos Indicadores Emocionais do DFH que diferenciam (p < 0,1) o grupo clínico do grupo de comparação, por tipologia e sexo, resultaram na construção de cinco escalas avaliativas: duas escalas para abuso sexual (uma para meninas, outra para meninos), uma escala para abuso físico em meninos, duas escalas para abandono e negligência (uma para meninas e outra para meninos). Os achados se refletem em avanço para a área da avaliação psicológica, pois os critérios para a avaliação das crianças vitimizadas estão adaptados a sua realidade.<br>Abandonment and abuse experienced by children can interfere in their psychological development. The present study aimed at describing the profile of victimized children in terms of demographic data and checking the most frequent items in Human Figure Drawings (HFD) of neglected, abandoned, sexually and physically abused children in comparison of HFDs of children who have not had those experiences. Participated in this study 378 children and adolescents, aged from 6 to 12 years old, low and middle-low SES. They were divided into two groups: clinic (281) and comparison (97) groups. The clinic group was split based on the different types of victimization. As results, the mean age of first violence experience was 6.8 years old for girls and 7.5 years old for boys, and 35.6% of the clinic group lives in a shelter from one to three years. The majority of children and adolescents have been victimized for more than a year and 56.2% of them who were sexually and physically abused suffered systematic violence. HFD indicators reflected the experience of victimization. The emotional indicators of HFD which differentiate (p < 0,1) the clinic group from the comparison group, by typology and sex, resulted in the construction of five assessment scales: two for sexual abuse (one for girls and one for boys), one for boys physical abuse and two for abandonment and negligence (one for girls and one for boys). Results reflect advances to the psychological assessment area since the criteria for the evaluation of victimized children are adapted to their reality.

It recognizes that the right to integrate early childhood education, moreover, the right to community living, to complement the right to family life. It argues that the host institution figure as a symbol of the failure of the state. It believes that ensuring human rights, among these early childhood education, is effective measure to protect children and may contribute to that are not institutionalized, since education is a human right end in itself and means for achieving other rights, amid the struggle to democratize the right to education. Of the twelve institutional placement organizations in the city of João Pessoa/PB that participated initially, four were involved in all stages of research. We conducted interviews and reports were analyzed using qualitative procedures of categorization and content analysis. We also use documents containing information about the process of institutionalization of children. As the host institution has the character of the provisional and exceptional and must be well beyond the law. The study reveals, among other things, that the network of care to children struggling to function effectively, the idea of trampling System of Guarantee of Rights of Children and Adolescents. The institutional placement organizations outside the duty to protect children bump into difficulties like lack/inadequacy of effective public policies.<br>Este trabalho analisa o processo de institucionalização de crianças de 0 a 5 anos de idade, através da medida de acolhimento institucional, considerando o direito humano à educação infantil no Município de João Pessoa/PB. Reflete sobre o papel do Estado brasileiro na formulação de políticas públicas, entre estas, a política educacional, com ênfase na educação infantil visando materializar os direitos das crianças, tendo em vista a proteção integral (Constituição Federal do Brasil de 1988, Artigo 227). Entende que a medida de acolhimento institucional tem sido muito mais um processo de ocultação da negação de direitos da criança. Reconhece que o direito à educação infantil integra, outrossim, o direito à convivência comunitária, em complementação ao direito à convivência familiar. Argumenta que a entidade de acolhimento institucional figura mais como símbolo da omissão do Estado. Entende que a garantia de direitos humanos, entre estes a educação infantil, é medida efetiva de proteção das crianças, podendo contribuir para que não sejam institucionalizadas, uma vez que a educação é um direito humano fim em si mesmo e meio para a consecução de outros direitos, em meio à luta pela democratização do direito à educação. Das doze entidades de acolhimento institucional do município de João Pessoa/PB que participaram inicialmente, quatro estiveram envolvidas em todas as etapas da pesquisa. Realizamos entrevistas e os relatos foram analisados através de procedimentos qualitativos de categorização e análise de conteúdo. Também utilizamos documentos contendo informações acerca do processo de institucionalização de crianças. A medida de acolhimento institucional tem caráter de provisoriedade e excepcionalidade e assim precisa ser para além da legislação. O estudo revela, entre outras coisas, que a rede de atendimento à criança enfrenta dificuldades para funcionar efetivamente, atropelando a ideia de Sistema de Garantia de Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente. As entidades de acolhimento institucional frente ao dever de proteger as crianças esbarram em dificuldades do tipo falta/insuficiência de políticas públicas efetivas.

Portanto, este trabalho teve por objetivo apresentar e discutir quais os conceitos e os principais fatores associados ao abandono do tratamento de saúde mental entre crianças, adolescentes e suas famílias, em publicações científicas. Foram consultadas as bases de dados Scielo, Lilacs, Medline, PubMed e NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information), ultilizando - se artigos publicados desde o primeiro estudo divulgado em 1956, através dos seguintes descritores: “pacientes desistentes do tratamento”, “abandono”, “dropout” e “desistência do paciente”, correlacionados à “saúde mental” e “crianças e adolescentes”. Os resultados encontrados evidenciaram o predomínio de trabalhos quantitativos, com significativas divergências conceituais e sobre os resultados produzidos. Alguns fatores foram levantados com maior recorrência entre os estudos como possivelmente associados ao abandono do tratamento entre crianças e adolescentes, tais como a monoparentalidade e sobrecarga do cuidado na figura de um único cuidador; uso abusivo de substâncias psicoativas entre os jovens e seus pais; violência intrafamiliar; baixa escolaridade dos pais; baixo capital econômico; discrepâncias entre as expectativas dos familiares e profissionais quanto ao tratamento; atitudes e comportamentos do terapeuta como empatia e disponibilidade subjetiva; pouca clareza sobre os objetivos e métodos de tratamento; dificuldades na marcação; formas de acolhimento; vinculo terapêutico frágil, natureza das fontes de encaminhamento, dentre outros. Discute-se que conhecer os possíveis preditores para o abandono do tratamento de saúde mental possibilita que os profissionais possam identificar precocemente pacientes pertencentes ao grupo de risco para abandono, oportunizando-lhes trabalhar preventivamente e mais diretamente aspectos que dificultam a permanência desses pacientes e seus familiares na instituição. Apesar da significativa contribuição destes estudos para a produção do conhecimento científico, ressalva – se a necessidade de novos estudos de cunho qualitativo junto aos familiares, usuários e profissionais do CAPSi, a fim de compreender melhor a realidade desse espaço de cuidado tão diverso dos modelos de tratamento ofertados em outros países.

O presente estudo visa investigar a supervisão psicanalítica da ludoterapia de crianças que sofreram trauma e abandono, a partir da contribuição dos processos de transferência e contratransferência. Faz um estudo das relações transferenciais e contratransferenciais percebidas de forma mais destacada nas supervisões, utilizando como principal embasamento teórico, a literatura baseada na psicanálise inglesa, principalmente as concepções Kleinianas e pós-Kleinianas, partindo do pensamento de Freud, cujas formulações originaram e serviram de ponto de partida para os desenvolvimentos da teoria e da técnica psicanalítica. Ao discutir o trauma, o abandono, a ludoterapia e a supervisão psicanalítica, nesses contextos, utiliza-se, também, de elaborações teóricas de autores, como Anne Alvarez e contemporâneos, os quais tiveram grande interlocução com as teorias de Melanie Klein, e também conhecimentos provenientes de estudos e pesquisas de outras áreas que são compatíveis com esta orientação. Como material clínico, faz uso de transcrições de sessões de supervisão nas quais estão incluídas as transcrições de sessões feitas pelos psicoterapeutas para a supervisão. Para a análise do material, adota a postura investigativa própria da situação de supervisão psicanalítica sobre o que acontece nas relações paciente/supervisionando e supervisionando/supervisor. Conclui que o trauma e o abandono provocam perturbações e desorganizações psíquicas nas crianças que os sofrem, que são percebidas e vivenciadas de forma específica na sua relação com seu psicoterapeuta e na situação de supervisão. As dificuldades apresentadas na ludoterapia de crianças traumatizadas e abandonadas na instituição - as angústias mobilizadas pela realidade física e emocional delas, a transmissão dos sentimentos negativos do trauma e do abandono e convites à atuação e ao abandono do lugar de psicólogo e supervisor fazem parte da avalanche de sentimentos perturbadores, transferenciais e contratransferenciais, que envolvem psicólogos e supervisores no trabalho clínico com as crianças traumatizadas.<br>This study investigates the psychoanalytical supervision of the play therapy with children of have suffered trauma and abandonment, taking into account the transference and the countertransference processes in the supervision of these psychotherapeutic processes, in the view of the English psychoanalysis, in special of Melanie Klein and her followers. The discussion of the concepts of trauma and abandonment, and of the psychoanalytical supervision of play therapy in these contexts, considered also several authors who have great affinity with Kleins ideas, such as Anne Alvarez, as well as researches in other fields that were compatible with the same theoretical approach. The clinical material analysed was based in the transcriptions of the play therapy sessions with the children, brought by their psychotherapists to supervision. For this analysis it was adopted an investigative approach compatible with the psychoanalytical supervision, focussing in the relationship patient/psychotherapist, and in the relationship psychotherapist/supervisor. The investigation concluded that trauma and abandonment can cause psychological disorders in the children that were exposed to them, and these experiences have also specific influences in the child/psychotherapist relationship as well as in the psychotherapists supervision. The difficulties presented in the play therapy of traumatized and abandoned children living in a public institution, as well as the anguishes that their physical and emotional reality mobilized in their environment and in the psychotherapist, the transmission of the negative feelings related to their traumatic experiences and, the constant challenges to have acting-outs and to leave the role of psychotherapist and of supervisor, are all important elements in the transference and countertransference of the emotional disorder, that psychotherapist and supervisor have to face in their clinical work.

Dissertação de Mestrado em Psicopatologia e Psicologia Clínica<br>Com a presente investigação pretendemos aceder à compreensão das consequências psicológicas do abandono e do acolhimento temporário das crianças, com o objectivo de realizarmos um estudo exploratório sobre o Abandono Psicológico. Na revisão bibliográfica, atendendo ao facto de que a problemática do Abandono se relaciona com as questões ligadas à formação, insuficiência e/ou rompimento de Vínculos Afectivos e aos maus-tratos infantis, procuramos explorar teoricamente esses conceitos, pelo que a fundamentação teórica assenta em diversas reflexões acerca desses aspectos, antecedidos de um enquadramento da criança e da família ao longo da história e do enquadramento jurídico até à actualidade. A metodologia apresentada é a de utilização de um Questionário, que construímos e aplicámos numa amostra aleatória, constituída por cinquenta profissionais que exercem funções em Centros de Acolhimento Temporário de Menores em Risco. Através da sua aplicação, procuramos conhecer quais os sinais psicológicos consensualmente aceites pelos profissionais como de sofrimento psicológico das crianças acolhidas. Paralelamente, procurámos também saber quais as percepções dos profissionais sobre o seu papel para a organização afectiva das crianças acolhidas e sobre o actual sistema de acolhimento temporário. Verificamos que os profissionais identificam de forma consensual alguns sinais de sofrimento psicológico nas crianças acolhidas temporariamente, corroborando em muitos aspectos, as teorias apresentadas por diferentes autores. Conclui-se da necessidade dos técnicos dos centros de acolhimento temporário terem uma formação específica na área das crianças em risco, necessária para detectar e corrigir os tipos de afecto que estas crianças podem vir a apresentar (segundo a teoria de Guex) e da necessidade das crianças acolhidas temporariamente serem o mais rapidamente entregues às suas "famílias de adopção", de forma a receberem a constância do amor necessária ao seu desenvolvimento. Com base nos estudos de Guex, ao reconhecer em adultos sinais abandónicos da infância, é lícito inferir, com grande grau de possibilidade e de probabilidade, que muitas crianças apresentam sinais de mal-estar que podem ser considerados precursores de sintomas abandónicos.

The research was carried out on 60 children living in childcare facilities in four cities in the State of São Paulo, both boys and girls aged from six years and six months to ten years. All the children within this age bracket were tested with the CBCL (Child Behavior Checklist for ages 6-18). Those who presented clinical and/or borderline symptoms related to internalizing factors (anxiety, depression, withdrawn and somatic complaints) and/or externalizing factors such as breaking rules and aggressive behavior, as well as total problems, were selected for this survey. The participants were tested in three different moments: T0 (before any intervention), T1 (20 sessions/weeks after T0) and T2 (six months after T1), with the following instruments: WISC-III (2002), the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (cubes and vocabulary sub-tests) and the AUQEI test (a questionnaire to evaluate life quality in children and adolescents). The children were organised into three groups: an experimental group (EG, which received the ST), a control group (CG, the waiting list) and a placebo group (PG, which received placebo therapy). New evaluations using the same instruments were carried out as follows: in the EG after 20 weekly sessions with TS (T1) and six months after T1 (T2); in the PG and CG after 20 weekly sessions/weeks (T1). There was no T2 in the PG and CG. Results of the intervention with ST showed that children in the EG presented statistically significant improvement as regards symptoms related to internalizing, externalizing factors and total problems. This change prevailed six months after the therapy was concluded. In the CG improvement in externalizing factors was obtained in the aggressive behavior scale in T1. However, the EG presented a higher average of improvement in relation to CG in this scale.We observed that research participants expressed their aggressiveness and explosive emotions through ST.It was also found that the therapeutic process revealed not only the psychopathological dynamics, but also the children s potentiality and capacities. Building scenarios led to greater adaptability to the difficult circumstances faced by the participants. Miniatures, with their symbolic potential, and playing with sand facilitated connecting and integrating with unconscious aspects that were repressed and defensive as a result of traumatic experiences. Symbolic playing in a free and protected space favored creativity and imagination, as well as the expression of traumatic narratives. Results from T1 and T2 showed significantly reduced clinical symptoms and pathological forms of behavior<br>Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo investigar o efeito da Terapia do Sandplay (TS) no tratamento de crianças vítimas de trauma por abuso, negligência e abandono. A pesquisa foi realizada com 60 crianças que viviam em instituições de acolhimento em quatro cidades do Estado de São Paulo, com idades entre seis anos e seis meses a 10 anos, de ambos os sexos. Todas as crianças dentro desses critérios foram testadas pelo instrumento CBCL (Child Behavior Checklist for ages 6-18). Aquelas que apresentavam sintomas clínicos e/ou limítrofes relacionados a fatores internalizantes (ansiedade, depressão, retraimento e queixas somáticas) e/ou externalizantes (violação de regras e comportamento agressivo) e Total de Problemas foram selecionadas para esta pesquisa. As crianças foram divididas em três grupos: grupo experimental (GE), que recebeu a TS em 20 sessões semanais); grupo de controle (GC), lista de espera em 20 semanas e grupo placebo (GP), que recebeu terapia placebo em 20 sessões semanais. Os participantes foram testados em três momentos: T0 (antes da intervenção), T1 (20 sessões e/ou 20 semanas) e T2 (apenas para o GE, seis meses após o tratamento), por meio da utilização dos seguintes instrumentos: CBCL/6-18, WISC-III (2002), Escala de Inteligência Wechsler para Crianças (subtestes Cubos e Vocabulário) e AUQEI (Questionário de Avaliação de Qualidade de Vida em Crianças e Adolescentes). Os resultados da intervenção com a TS demonstraram que as crianças do GE apresentaram melhoras estatisticamente significativas, nos sintomas ligados aos fatores internalizantes, externalizantes e Total de Problemas. Essa mudança permaneceu após seis meses do término da terapia. No GC houve mudança significativa em relação aos fatores externalizantes, no entanto esta foi menor que no GE. O GE também apresentou melhoras significativas em relação aos dois grupos. Em T1 o GE apresentou melhoras no WISC vocabulário e em T2 no WISC Cubos. Não houve alteração no teste de qualidade de vida AUQEI que apresentou avaliação de boa qualidade de vida já em T0. Pudemos observar que, por meio da TS, os participantes desta pesquisa expressaram sua agressividade e emoções explosivas. As miniaturas, com seu potencial simbólico, e o brincar na areia facilitaram a conexão e a integração com aspectos inconscientes, reprimidos e defensivos, devido a vivências traumáticas. O brincar simbólico no espaço livre e protegido favoreceu a criatividade e imaginação, assim como a expressão de conteúdos traumáticos

The methodology is inspired by the analysis of the Foucauldian discourse and elements of ethnography such as observation in field diary, informal conversations and semi-structured interview. The theoretical analysis articulates a set of concepts developed by Michel Foucault, some of them central: discourse, power-knowledge, subjectivation processes and subject position, beyond the concept of curriculum in a post-critical view. The management of these conceptual tools is directed towards the investigation of the discourse of the reception, which concerns the process of protective help to the abandoned child and adolescent disclosed in the curricular practices of the shelter in question. The central problem of this research is: how the discourse of reception to the child and adolescent in social vulnerability has disclosed in the curricular practices of the investigated shelter and what subject positions are demanded in this discourse. For this, I research how the child and the adolescent has named, characterized and invented in the curriculum of that shelter. I also investigate the individual and collective actions witnessed in everyday situations and the relations of power-knowledge imbricated there. The general argument developed is that there is in the curriculum of the investigated institution a constant confrontation of discursive truths about the reception. Thus , the processes of subjectivation in curricular practices, as a place of production and creation of social meanings, especially demarcate the minor subject positions of an abandoned, poor, delinquent, cursed, right-wing and resilient. The metaphor of the snow white story comes into the picture in this investigation by looking at the witch character's mirror as the curriculum of the Resilience shelter, in other words, the place where the speeches are spread. The witch, on the other hand, is the reflection of the children and adolescents marked by the abandonment being the personification of the evil of the witch subject the representativity of the positions of subject produced in the middle of relations of power and knowledge.

This paper uses a religious instrument to benefit the mental health of some children. The goal of this thesis is to study the effects of mandala drawings in children between the ages of 8 and 12, victimized by abandonment, living in shelters. The effects studied here refer to stress, anxiety and worrying, depressive moods, interest in social and school activities and cognitive and physical fatigue. It is a qualitative as well as quantitative research that highlights the meanings and the processes measured both in terms of quantity and frequency. The tools utilized were: the CAD Clinical Assessment of Depression; Child Stress Symptoms Inventory (Escala Stress Infantil), questionnaires for the technical staff; printed religious mandalas; printed coloring drawings; and printed drawings of a circle. The sample included 34 children, 12 males and 22 females. All children were sheltered at Associação dos Amigos do Menor pelo Esporte Maior (AMEM) in São Paulo at the time of the research. These children were enrolled in the elementary school from 2nd to 6ª grade, corresponding to the third and seventh grade in 2009. The children were divided into two groups: a control group (doing coloring of printed drawings) and experimental group (doing mandala painting). Each group comprised 17 children. The data obtained confirmed the hypothesis, i.e. the mandala drawings induced changes in the children s behavior, promoting meaningful improvements regarding children stress, depression, anxiety and worrying, in their school and social interests as well as in their cognitive and physical behavior. Hence, we could say that the mandala drawing technique was an enriching and efficient activity for the psychic life of these children. It allowed access to the creative ludic world of the children, encouraged a way of self-discovery and enlivenment of their creative ability, enabled a more balanced relationship between self and ego, generated serenity and well-being, lessened stress and depression, which resulted in moments of emotional transformation, inner contact, order, stabilization and harmony, therefore allowing better integration. This thesis demonstrates that a religious tool, developed by millennial cultures, aiming the connection of the individual with their center and with God, can be applied to a group of children, generating that connection. Os efeitos aqui estudados referem-se ao stress, à ansiedade e à preocupação, ao humor depressivo, ao interesse pelas atividades sociais e escolares e à fadiga cognitiva e física. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa e quantitativa, que privilegia os significados e os processos mensurados em termos de quantidade e de freqüência. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: teste CAD Clinical Assessment of Depression; teste ESI Escala Stress Infantil; questionário para equipe técnica; desenho impresso de mandalas religiosas; desenho impresso de figuras para colorir; e desenho impresso de um círculo. A amostra foi de 34 crianças, sendo 12 do sexo masculino e 22 do sexo feminino. Todas as crianças estavam abrigadas na Associação dos Amigos do Menor pelo Esporte Maior (AMEM) na cidade de São Paulo no momento da pesquisa. Essas crianças encontram-se matriculadas no ensino fundamental da 2ª à 6ª série que corresponde ao 3º ano e ao 7º ano de 2009. As crianças foram divididas em dois grupos: grupo controle (realização de pintura de desenhos impressos) e grupo experimental (realização de pintura de mandalas). Ambos eram formados por 17 crianças. Os dados obtidos confirmam a hipótese, isto é, o desenho da mandala proporciona uma mudança no comportamento nas crianças, promovendo melhoras significativas no quadro de stress infantil, de depressão, de ansiedade e de preocupação, nos interesses sociais e escolares e na atitude cognitiva e física. Portanto, podemos dizer que a técnica do desenho da mandala foi uma atividade enriquecedora e eficiente para a vida psíquica destas crianças. Ela proporcionou acesso ao mundo lúdico criativo da criança, promoveu um meio de autodescoberta e um avivamento da capacidade criativa, possibilitou um relacionamento mais equilibrado entre ego-Self, gerou tranqüilidade e bem-estar, diminuiu o stress e a depressão, o que acarretou momentos de transformação emocional, de contato interior, de ordem, de centramento e de harmonia, o que implica em uma maior integração. Esta tese demonstrou que um instrumento religioso, desenvolvido por culturas milenares com objetivo de proporcionar uma ligação do indivíduo com seu centro e com Deus, pode ser aplicado em um grupo de crianças, gerando essa ligação. Tal constatação pode ser percebida através da sensação de bem-estar e de tranqüilidade observados nos testes e relatados pelas crianças

Cette thèse est un effort de plus pour analyser le « phénomène de la dévolution » pendant la période de mise en relation, prenant en compte les raisons évoquées par les adoptants pour rendre les enfants et les effets sur les enfants et les adolescents. Nous comprenons que la connaissance des risques et l'évaluation des différents niveaux du processus d'adoption peuvent permettre des interventions qui réduisent les échecs dans la construction des nouveaux liens de filiation. L'objectif est d'analyser le phénomène par le versant psychique, en tenant compte de la complexité de la filiation adoptive. Nous émettons l'hypothèse que l'adoption a tendance à échouer dans les cas suivants : il n’y a chez l'adoptant aucun désir légitime d'avoir un enfant (certaines demandes peuvent être qualifiées de perverses) ; l'enfant ne correspond pas à l'enfant imaginé et fantasmé par les parents (considérant une certaine tension entre le désir de procréer et celui d'adopter) ; il y a une recherche de réparation par l’adoption ; les imagos parentaux inscrits chez l’enfant interfèrent dans le processus de filiation ; les équipes institutionnelles ne parviennent pas à évaluer les requérants, à accompagner la période de mise en relation et / ou à préparer les enfants. Sur la base de la proposition méthodologique de la métapsychologie, nous avons guidé la recherche sur la construction de cas de 10 enfants et adolescents sur la base de dossiers, de procédures judiciaires (destitution, agrément et adoption) et d'entretiens avec des équipes des institutions d'accueil. Dans ce contexte, l'interface de la psychanalyse avec le droit a permis une meilleure compréhension et une réflexion plus large sur le thème. Nous nous appuyons dans notre étude sur l'enseignement de Lacan : le désir est essentiel pour nouer de liens avec l'autre. Il convient de noter que, malgré les nombreuses avancées dans le domaine de l’adoption, il reste encore beaucoup à faire, notamment en ce qui concerne la transformation des enfants et des adolescents en sujets de droit, comme changement de paradigme<br>This thesis is one more effort to analyze the "return phenomenon" in the cohabitation stage, considering the reasons of the adopters for the return and its effects on children and adolescents. We understand that knowledge of risks and the evaluation of the different levels of the adoption process can provide interventions that reduce the failures in the construction of the new bonds. The objective is to analyze the phenomenon by the psychic view, taking into account the complexity of the adoptive filiation. We hypothetize that the adoption tends to fail in the following cases: there is no true desire on the part of the adopter to have a child (some demands may be characterized as perverse); the child does not correspond to the child imagined or fantasized by the parents (consider a certain tension between the desire of procreating and the one of adopting); there is a search for reparation by the adoption; the parental imagos inscribed in the child interfere in the process of filiation ; there is a failure on the part of the institutional teams in the evaluation of the applicants, in the follow up of the cohabitation stage and or in the preparation of the children. Based on the methodological proposition of metapsychology, we guided the research by the construction of 10 cases of children and adolescent based on the dossiers, on the juridical processes (dismissal, habilitation and adoption) and on the interviews with children's home teams. In that context, the interface of psychoanalysis with the law allowed for a better understanding and broad reflection on the subject. We have supported our study in Lacan's teaching : desire is essential in the construction of the link with the other. It should be pointed out that despite the many advances in the field of adoption, there is still much to be achieved, especially on the issue of transforming children and adolescents into subjects of rights, as a paradigm change

A evolução da infecção para a doença durante a vida é estimada em 5-10% em relação a um adulto imunocompetente, porém, na criança estima-se 43%. Esta pesquisa foi um estudo observacional, analítico, que objetivou analisar o perfil epidemiológico e os fatores relacionados ao abandono do tratamento da ILTB. Foram analisados os indivíduos até 15 anos de idade que estavam em tratamento para ILTB, nos PCT dos municípios prioritários, ou seja, os mais populosos da Grande Vitória: Vitória, Vila Velha, Serra e Cariacica, nos locais que utilizam a ficha de notificação do tratamento da ILTB. A ficha foi utilizada como instrumento de coleta dos dados. O período pesquisado foi de julho de 2009 a agosto de 2010. Foram encontrados 144 indivíduos em tratamento para ILTB, sendo 140 (97,22%), a indicação foi de serem contatos de TB, 46 (31,94%) abandonaram o tratamento, e 98 (68,06%) concluíram o tratamento. A maioria dos indivíduos era contato de TB, e quando foi analisada a situação da baciloscopia (BAAR) do caso índice do contato, a maioria tanto do grupo que abandonou, quanto do grupo que concluiu o tratamento, 97,62% e 87,91% (p=0,06), respectivamente, eram positivos. Quanto ao tipo de contato, o domiciliar foi o mais frequente, e também entre os dois grupos, tanto os que abandonaram quanto os que concluíram, totalizaram 81,82% e 84,21% (p=0,72), respectivamente, seguidos de outros, que foram os tios, avós, que moravam próximos. As crianças e adolescentes avaliados tinham na sua maioria cicatriz da vacina BCG (Bacilo de Calmette e Guérin) presentes, e tinha na sua maioria o Rx de tórax normal. Analisou-se também se indivíduos adolescentes (&#8805;10 anos), apresentaram mais chance de abandonar o tratamento da ILTB, em relação às crianças com menos de 10 anos de idade, pois as mesmas necessitam ajuda dos seus cuidadores para uso da medicação, porém, a maioria de ambos os grupos, concluíram o tratamento, adolescentes 75% e crianças 64,13% (p=0,17). Este estudo reforça a necessidade do controle dos contatos dos doentes da TB, identificando prioritariamente as crianças e adolescentes e desenvolvendo estratégias para a adesão ao tratamento da ILTB. O estudo também pode estimular a melhoria do sistema de notificação dos casos de tratamento da ILTB, já que, apesar da orientação do MS, a sua implantação ainda não foi padronizada<br>Controling of Tuberculosis (TB) one of the measures used in Brazil is the treatment of latent infection by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (ILTB), which is made in the TB Control Program (PCT). The evolution of the infection to disease during the life is estimated at 5-10% related to immunocompetent adult, however, in child is estimated 43%.This research was an observational and analytical study, which aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile and factors related to renunciation of treatment for ILTB. Individuals were analyzed until 15 years old who were undergoing treatment for ILTB, in the PCT of the priority municipalities of Vitória, Vila Velha, Serra and Cariacica, which are the sites that used the notification form of treatment for ILTB. The form was used as a tool for data collection. The research period was between July 2009 and August 2010. 144 individuals were found in treatment for ILTB, and 140 (97,22%), the majority of nomination was TB contacts, 46 (31.94%) abandoned the treatment, and 98 (68.06%) completed the treatment. Most individuals were contacts of TB, and when was analyzed the situation of the bacilloscopy (BAAR) of the index case of contact, the majority of both the group that left, and the group that completed treatment, 97,62% e 87,91% (p=0,06), respectively, were positive. Regarding the type of contact, the home was the most frequent, and also between the two groups, both those abandoned and those who completed, totaled 81,82% e 84,21% (p=0,72), respectively, followed by others, who were uncles, grandparents , who lived nearby. Children and teenagers were evaluated mostly had scar of BCG (Bacillus of Calmette and Guérin) present, and had mostly a normal chest X-ray. Teenagers (&#8805; 10 years old), were checked if they had more chances to leave the treatment of ILTB, comparing with less than 10 years old, because the same need caregivers help for use of medication, however, the majority of both groups, concluded the treatment, teenagers 75% and children 64,13% (p=0.17). This study reinforces the need to control the contacts of patients, identifying priority children and teenagers and developing strategies for treatment adherence. The study can also stimulate the improvement of notification s system since, despite the orientation of MOH, its implementation has not yet been standardized

Adota como marco os princípios constitucionais inseridos na Carta magna de 1988, que influenciaram na adoção de uma nova hermenêutica jurídica no que diz respeito às relações familiares em especial a relação paterno filial. Com a C/F de 1988 houve uma profunda mudança operada no Direito de família, que alterou o seu perfil para o de uma unidade de afeto e de solidariedade, sendo a mesma reconhecida como uma entidade instrumental voltada para priorizar os interesses de seus componentes, em especial os da criança e do adolescente, cujo assentamento passa a ser feito pelo princípio de proteção integral do menor. A supervalorização do afeto pelo Estado definiu o que seria uma relação familiar satisfatória diferenciando-a de outras relações ocorridas na vida cotidiana. Ações pedindo indenizações por dano moral são constantemente impetradas no intuito de condenar os pais abandônicos por responsabilidade civil, expandido a raio da ação estatal no âmbito do direito de família. A supervalorização do afeto pelo legislador nas atuais relações familiares propiciou a que o Estado ampliasse a sua ingerência no seio da família, intervindo numa seara que não é, por suas particularidades, afeita a estas interferências. Com o escopo de sistematização do debate deste tema no estado da arte especializado, bem como na dogmática respectiva, operacionalizou-se pesquisa bibliográfica, com auxílio do método lógico-dedutivo. Procedeu-se leituras sucessivas e cruzadas de textos dos especialistas e dos dogmatizadores, registrando-os em fichamentos revisados frequentemente, sobretudo quando do cotejamento de ideias e conceitos contrastantes. Na lide com texto legal, procedeu-se a análise hermenêutica do art. 1.513 do Código Civil em vigor, que consagra o princípio da liberdade ou da não-intervenção na ótica do Direito de Família. Resulta da convergência da revisão de literatura e aplicação da hermenêutica jurídica o reconhecimento de que este princípio mantém relação direta com o princípio da autonomia privada, que também deve existir no âmbito do Direito de Família, evitando assim, uma maior interferência do Estado. Como filtro de seleção de artigos-científicos que adensam a argumentação aqui arrolada, cotejada e construída, usa-se bancos de dados como a Biblioteca Virtual de Revistas Científicas Brasileiras (Scielo), dos quais são arregimentadas e selecionadas produções pertinentes à temática, além do Banco de Teses e Dissertações da CAPES/Domínio Público.<br>The theme of this dissertation is the State Interference in Family Relationships. It adopts as a landmark the constitutional principles included in the Charter magna 1988 that influenced the adoption of a new legal hermeneutics with regard to family relationships in particular the parental-filial relationship. After the 1988 C/F a profound change was produced in Family Law, which changed the profile of the parental-filial relationship to a unit of affection and solidarity, being recognized as an instrumental entity aimed to prioritize the interests of its constituents, especially those of children and adolescents, whose settlement shall be done by the principle of full protection of the minor. The overvaluation of affection by the State defined what would be a satisfactory familiar relationship, distinguishing it from other relationships that occur in everyday life. Law suits demanding compensation for moral damages are constantly filed, in order to convict alienated parents for civil liability, and expanding the radius of state action within family law. The overvaluation of affection by the legislature on the current family relationships allowed the State to broaden its interference in the family, intervening in a field that is not, in its particulars, accustomed to these interferences. With the scope of discussion systematization on this theme in the art of specialized State, as well as in its respective dogmatic concept, literature searching was supported by aid of logical-deductive method. Successive and crossed readings were carried out on texts of experts and dogmatism thinkers, who recorded them in files frequently reviewed, especially when there is a readback of contrasting ideas and concepts. When dealing with the legal text, hermeneutic analysis was proceeded of article 1513 of the Civil Code in force, which enforces the principle of freedom or non-intervention in the optics of Family Law. Consequence from the convergence of a literature review and application of legal hermeneutics is the recognition that this principle has direct relation to the principle of private autonomy, which must also exist under the Family Law, thus avoiding greater State interference. As a selection filter of scientific articles that deepen this discussion here constructed and checked, databases such as from the Virtual Library of Brazilian Journals (Scielo), from which are collected and selected productions relevant to the topic, besides Bank of Theses and Dissertations from CAPES / Public Domain.

Ma recherche vise à la vie psychique et sociale des enfants dans les orphelinats chinois. Ces enfants sont souvent abandonnés à cause de leur handicap. Ils sont placés aussi du fait de la défaillance de leurs parents consécutive à un décès, un paupérisme, un emprisonnement, ou des difficultés qu'ils subissent les conduisant à l'abandon de l'enfant. Je m'interroge sur la façon dont les enfants dans les orphelinats chinois vont s'organiser psychiquement et socialement pour faire face à ce double traumatisme : celui de l'abandon, celui du placement. Pour vérifier les effets de la carence affective croisée avec l'abandon et l'institutionnalisation, une recherche exploratoire qui consiste en l'observation sur le terrain et les entretiens avec 3 nurses est réalisée au sein de deux orphelinats chinois. Et puis, le recueil des données s'est déroulé auprès de 16 enfants de 7 à 12 ans avec ces outils méthodologiques: l'entretien auprès des enfants, le dessin et le test des contes. L'analyse des données recueillies est basée sur trois vecteurs qui fondent l'organisation de la vie psychique d'un individu : la représentation de soi, la représentation de son lien à l'autre, les mécanismes de défense et d'adaptation mis en oeuvre. La présentation des résultats est scindée en deux parties : étude globale des données (étude globale des entretiens ; étude globale de dessins ; étude globale du test des contes) et études de cas (7 cas parmi les échantillons sont choisis pour des études approfondies). Les résultats montrent que les enfants présentent des défaillances dans lareprésentation de soi qui se décèlent par les atteintes dans l'estime de soi et par des sentiments négatifs, des défaillances dans la relation à l'autre de l'ordre de la pathologie du lien, et que pour faire face à leur situation, certains enfants peuvent entrer dans un processus de résilience qui s'observe par les mécanismes de défense qu'ils utilisent ou par la référence à un tuteur de résilience<br>My research aims to psychic and social life of children in Chinese orphanages. These children are often abandoned because of their disability. They are placed as a result of the failure of their parents following a death, pauperism, imprisonment, or the difficulties they face leading to the abandonment of the child. I wonder how these children in Chineseorphanages will organize themselves socially and psychologically to deal with the double trauma: abandonment and placement. To test the effects of emotional deprivation crossed with the abandonment and institutionalization, an exploratory research, which consists of field observation and interviews with three nurses is carried out in two Chinese orphanages. And then, the data collection was conducted with 16 children from 7 to 12 years with the methodological tools: the interview with children, drawing and testing stories. The analysis of data collected is based on three vectors that underlie the organization of the psychic life of an individual : self-representation, representation of his relationship with others, defense mechanisms implemented. The presentation of results is divided into two parts: comprehensive study of data (comprehensive study of the interviews, comprehensive study of the drawings, comprehensive study of the test stories) and case studies (7 cases among the samples are selected for in-depth studies). The results show that these children have deficiencies in self-representation which are detected by the self-esteem damaged and negative feelings, deficiencies in their relationship with others of the order of pathology of the link, and to deal with their situation, some children may enter into a process of resilience which is observed by the defense mechanisms they use or by reference to a guardian of resilience

Essa dissertação tem por objetivo analisar as políticas públicas de assistência à infância e à juventude órfã, desamparada, abandonada e/ou infratora na cidade de Caxias do Sul – RS, entre os anos de 1962 e 1992. Busca estabelecer reflexões que transitam em duas direções: por um lado, investiga as relações dessas políticas municipais com as diretrizes das políticas públicas nacionais, inscritas no contexto da Doutrina de Segurança Nacional da ditadura civil-militar (1964-1985), e personificadas pela atuação da Fundação Nacional do Bem-Estar do Menor e das Fundações Estaduais de Bem-Estar do Menor. Essas diretrizes, amparadas juridicamente pela “Doutrina de Situação Irregular” legitimada no Código de Menores de 1979, buscavam formas de controle e contenção da infância carenciada, criminalizando e responsabilizando as crianças e jovens pela situação de pobreza em que se encontravam. Por outro lado, procura situar possíveis descontinuidades entre as ações desempenhadas pelo poder público municipal e as políticas normativas nacionais, já que a cidade de Caxias do Sul contou com um serviço assistencial municipalizado, a Comissão Municipal de Amparo à Infância, criado em 1962. Considera, também, as transformações da área da assistência pública após a promulgação da Constituição de 1988 e do Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente, que trouxe consigo a noção de “Proteção Integral” e de garantia de direitos. Para a realização da pesquisa, foram utilizadas fontes institucionais, periódicas e orais, categorizadas tematicamente e analisadas de acordo com a narrativa cronológica do trabalho. Em um primeiro momento, considerou-se a trajetória da institucionalização de crianças e jovens no Brasil e no Rio Grande do Sul, dando-se especial destaque às transformações ocorridas ao longo da ditadura civil-militar e do processo de redemocratização do país. Em seguida, a realidade assistencial da cidade de Caxias do Sul foi analisada a partir de uma subdivisão que contemplou primeiramente as décadas de 1960 e 1970 e, posteriormente, as transformações da década de 1980 e 1990, até a criação do Conselho Tutelar da cidade, em 1992. As políticas públicas para a assistência ou institucionalização de crianças e jovens de Caxias do Sul combinaram benemerência, proteção e filantropia, enquadradas dentro da lógica da “Situação Irregular”, conjuntura que vai gradualmente se modificando ao longo da década de 1980, com a autocrítica e a transformação das instituições. No que se refere aos infratores, as iniciativas caxienses transitaram entre o confinamento, a reclusão e algumas ações de reeducação, sobretudo no período da redemocratização brasileira e da transformação das políticas nacionais para a infância. Episódios de desrespeito aos direitos humanos, estigmatização por parte da imprensa e extermínios de crianças e jovens pobres fizeram parte da realidade caxiense do período. Por outro lado, Caxias do Sul criou importantes instâncias protetivas, abrindo caminho para a reestruturação de sua rede de proteção dentro da lógica da garantia de direitos do Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente.<br>This dissertation has as its main objective analyze the public policies of assistance to orphan, helpless, abandoned and/or offending childhood and youth in Caxias do Sul / RS, between 1962 and 1992. It searches to establish reflections that move toward two directions: on one hand, it investigates the relations of these municipal policies with the guidelines of the national public policies, entered in the context of the Doctrine of the National Security of the civil-military dictatorship (1964- 1985) and personified through the performance of National Foundation for the Welfare of Minors, and the State Foundations of Welfare of Minors. These guidelines, legally protected by the ‘Irregular Situation Doctrine”, legitimated in the Minors Code of 1979, sought forms of control and contention of the deprived childhood, criminalizing and putting responsibility in the children and young people for the poverty situation in which they found themselves. On the other hand, it searches to place possible discontinuities among the actions performed by the municipal government and the national regulatory policies, since Caxias do Sul had an assistance service municipalized, the Municipal Commission for the Support of Children, created in 1962. It also considers the transformations in the public assistance area after the Constitution of 1988 and the Statute of Child and Adolescent were enacted. They brought with them the notion of ‘Full Protection” and the guarantee of the rights. To execute this research, institutional, periodical, and oral sources were used and they were categorized thematically and analyzed according to the chronological narrative of the research. In the first moment, the trajectory of the institutionalization of children and teenagers in Brazil and in Rio Grande do Sul was considered, emphasizing the transformations occurred during the civil-military dictatorship and the process of bringing back the democracy to the country. Following, the caring reality in Caxias do Sul was analyzed from a subdivision that considered first the 1960s and the 1970s and, after, the transformations in the decades of 1980s and 1990s, until the creation of Tutelary Council in town, in 1992. The public policies to assistance or institutionalization of children and teenagers in Caxias do Sul matched benevolence, protection and philanthropy, situated inside a logical of the ‘Irregular Situation”, conjuncture that modifies gradually along the 1980s, with the self-criticism and the transformation of the institutions. In relation to the offenders, the initiatives from Caxias do Sul moved between the confinement and some reeducation actions, mainly when democracy was coming back to Brazil and in the moments of transformation of the national policies to infancy. Episodes of disrespect to the human rights, stigmatization by the press and extermination of deprived children and teenagers were part of the reality from Caxias do Sul in that period. On the other hand, Caxias do Sul created important protective instances, opening ways to the restructuration of its net of protection inside de logical of the guarantee of the rights from the Statute of Child and Adolescent.

Conventional interpretations agree that Islamic jurisprudence officially prohibits adoption. Anthropologists have thus tended to presume that adoption does not exist in the Muslim world. This dissertation explores a conflicted and complex array of practices--extra-legal, illegal, customary, and religiously valorized--that fill the lacuna which official proscription leaves open. It focuses particularly upon two such practices: secret adoptions, which are considered a criminal activity and therefore create a fragile legal fiction of family continuity; and kafala (tutelage-fostering) which is religiously encouraged but creates an equally fragile family unit in which there is no continuity. The dissertation further addresses the failure of the one legal practice (kafala) to absorb the rapidly increasing number of "illegitimate" and unwanted children, and the consequent emergence of what has recently been identified as a national crisis: that of abandoned children. The dissertation explores legal, historic, literary, sociological, and administrative literature, and is based on field research combining interviews and participant volunteering. I examine adoption as a practice and juxtapose legal apparatus, state and bureaucratic edifice, the world of development and philanthropy, individual and family stories, and elements of the cultural repertoire to depict the highly fluid world of secret adoptions and kafala within Moroccan society. Through adoptions, kafala, and abandoned children, this dissertation analyzes core symbols and institutions in Moroccan society--family, state, social politics, affect--and performs a cultural critique of their internal mechanisms.

Thesis (M Social Work)--Stellenbosch University, 2014.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Thousands of children are being abandoned in South Africa each year, consequently entering the child-care and protection system. The Children’s Act 38 of 2005, which governs all practices involving children in South Africa, clearly advocates for adoption as the superior form of intervention in cases of abandonment. Yet adoption continues to be one of the most under-utilised childcare practices in South Africa, especially by the black, majority population. This is unfortunately despite the fact that most of the adoptable children are from the black population group. This study therefore aimed to investigate the views of adoption social workers regarding the practice of trans-racial adoptions of abandoned children. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were employed for this study. A combination of exploratory and descriptive research designs was utilised as the framework for the research approach. Data was collected by means of a semi-structured interview schedule, which was conducted during personal interviews with social work professionals. The findings of the empirical investigation revealed that according to the views of the social workers under-graduate social work training was largely inadequate in preparing social workers to work in the field of adoption. It was also found that social workers felt that the importance of permanency planning in all work with children was not comprehensively explored during under-graduate studies. Findings further indicated that trans-racial adoption is viewed positively amongst adoption social workers, and is regarded as the far superior alternative to foster-care or institutional care for children who have been abandoned. It was however found that in cases of abandonment, adoption might be an under-utilised option amongst child-protection workers. Children available for adoption were reported as being predominantly from the black population group, while it was indicated that the majority of parents wanting to adopt are from the white community. In line with this, it was noted that there are not many prospective adoptive parents from the black community. Of significance was therefore the finding that very few adoption organisations have active recruitment programmes focused on recruiting black adoptive parents, inevitably bringing trans-racial adoption to the fore. One of the most important recommendations of this study is therefore that adoption organisations should develop and implement recruitment programmes, which specifically target prospective black adopters in an effort to increase the potential pool of black adopters. In addition, the recommendations emphasised the importance of adequate education of social workers in order to ensure that the Children’s Act 38 of 2005 is adequately understood and implemented in cases of abandonment. Ensuring that social workers move towards adoption as fast as possible in cases of abandonment can not only increase the chances of the child being adopted, but can also help to prevent developmental problems associated with institutional care.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Duisende kinders word jaarliks in Suid-Afrika deur hulle ouers verlaat (“abandon”), en betree gevolglik die kindersorg en beskermingsisteem. Die Kinderwet 38 van 2005, wat alle praktyke rakende kinders in Suid Afrika reguleer, promoveer duidelik aanneming as die beste vorm van intervensie in gevalle van kinderverlating. Steeds bly aanneming egter een van die mees onderbenutte kindersorg praktyke in Suid-Afrika, veral onder die swart meerderheidsbevolking. Dit ten spyte van die feit dat meeste aanneembare kinders uit die swart bevolkingsgroep kom. Hierdie studie was daarop gemik om die menings van aannemings-maatskaplike werkers rakende die praktyk van inter-ras aannemings van kinders wat deur hulle ouers verlaat is te ondersoek. Beide kwantitatiewe en kwalitatiewe benaderings is toegepas vir hierdie studie. ‘n Kombinasie van ondersoekende en beskrywende navorsingsontwerpe is gebruik as die raamwerk vir die navorsingsbenadering. Data is versamel deur middel van ‘n semi-gestruktureerde onderhoud skedule wat uitgevoer is tydens persoonlike onderhoude met maatskaplike werkers. Die empiriese ondersoek het bevind dat die maatskaplike werkers van mening was dat voorgraadse opleiding in maatskaplike werk grootliks onvoldoende was om maatskaplike werkers voor te berei vir werk op die gebied van aanneming. Daar is ook bevind dat maatskaplike werkers die standpunt huldig dat die belangrikheid van permanensie-beplanning in alle werk met kinders nie omvattend verken is tydens voorgraadse studies nie. Verdere bevinding dui daarop dat inter-ras aanneming positief beskou word deur aannemings-maatskaplike werkers en dat dit by verre as die beste alternatief tot pleegsorg of institisionele sorg vir kinders wat deur hulle ouers verlaat is, beskou word. Daar is egter bevind dat in gevalle van kinderverlating die opsie van aanneming onderbenut mag wees deur kinderbeskermings werkers. Daar is aangedui dat kinders wat beskikbaar is vir aanneming grootliks uit die swart meerderheids bevolkingsgroep kom, terwyl daar ook aangedui is dat die meerderheid van ouers wat kinders wil aanneem uit die wit gemeenskap kom. Daar is aangedui dat min van die prospektiewe aannemings ouers uit die swart gemeenskap kom. ‘n Betekenisvolle bevinding was gevolglik dat baie min aannemings-organisasies aktiewe werwingsprogramme het wat daarop fokus om swart aannemingsouers te werf, wat noodwendig inter-ras aanneming na vore bring. Een van die belangrikste aanbevelings van hierdie studie is dus dat aannemings-organisasies werwingsprogramme moet ontwikkel en implementeer wat spesifiek prospektiewe swart aannemers teiken in ‘n poging om die poel van swart aannemers te vergroot. Verder beklemtoon die aanbevelings die belangrikheid van voldoende opleiding van maatskaplike werkers ten einde te verseker dat die Kinderwet 38 van 2005 voldoende verstaan word en geïmplementeer word in gevalle van kinderverlating. Deur toe te sien dat maatskaplike werkers so gou moontlik beweeg na aanneming in gevalle van kinderverlating verbeter nie slegs die kind se kans om aangeneem te word nie, maar dit kan ook help om die ontwikkelingsprobleme geassosieer met institusionele versorging te voorkom.

As abandonment is a pressing issue in South Africa, it is important to grow the body of literature so that these children and their adoptive families can be given effective help and support. This study focused on the relationship between adoptive parents and their previously abandoned, adopted children. Emphasis was placed on exploring this relationship and capturing the narrative of these adoptive parents as they provided an account of their experiences in adopting an abandoned child. To help guide this exploration, this study looked at how the experience of being abandoned affects the relationship between the adoptive parent and their adopted child. The study then focused on how good enough parenting ameliorated these early adverse experiences and finally explored the type of help sought by adoptive parents to help their children. The research design employed for this study was qualitative in nature and semi-structured interviews were conducted with five adoptive mothers in Johannesburg. Thematic content analysis was used to obtain themes and interpret the data. The findings of this study revealed that the adopting of abandoned children was a challenging journey yet, given that these adoptive mothers have been good enough caregivers to their children, providing them with consistency and stability in care, they have inspired the birth of relationships that feel more secure. In addition, the findings pointed out that the tracking of the relationship between adoptive parents and the adopted child from pre-pubescent years into pubescent years is likely to reveal more about the relationship.<br>MT2017

This research study explores the ways in which children from diverse family backgrounds can construct or reconstruct their God representations. These were probed by using 'object relations theory' and 'matemal deprivation theory' as means of further gaining insight into children's initial formulations of interpersonal and emotional relationships and how these were translated into the way they imagined God to be for themselves, given their age-group. Parallels were drawn between the interface of psychology and theology by using theories on faith development. There is a clear acknowledgment that there are certain steps of development that individuals go through in their growth at both psychological and spiritual levels. This confirms that there is a need for these two disciplines to draw from each other as means of creating conducive climate to allow for an integrated approach towards formulations of spiritual development among children. Through the use of questionnaires the children were given the opportunity to explore images of God and to also express these in the form of a drawing. The content analysis of this study demonstrated that there were no distinct differences on how children perceived God between abandoned children being raised in an institutional setting and those children being raised by biological parents. This finding highlighted the fact that there are other factors that impact children's spiritual development. These include care, nurture and emotional security. Abstract:
Legislation in South Africa pertaining to the care and protection of children is presently being revised and changed. Should alternative care be necessary for a vulnerable child, the Children's Act 38/2005 prioritises a foster care placement over a child and youth care centre of which a Children's Home is a part. Given the steady decline in traditional family living due to, amongst other things HIV/AIDS, poverty and unemployment in South Africa, the dominant view of family care being prioritised may not always be feasible in reality. The study researched this view by hearing the voices of children and their caregivers, in both foster care and in Children's Homes by conducting a qualitative study based on the exploratory and descriptive designs A purposive sampling strategy was used as there were clear criteria for the selection of participants. There were two sample groups. One consisted of child participants and the other consisted of caregivers viz. foster parents and child-care workers. Caregivers were included for the purposes of enhancing reliability, validity and trustworthiness of the study. Data was collected by means of semi-structured in depth interviews with the child participants. Two focus groups were held with the caregivers; one with the foster parents and the other with the child-care workers. Both the in depth interviews as well as the focus group discussions were guided by similar themes that were linked to the main objectives of the study. The findings revealed that children's voices were largely absent in decisions pertaining to their well being; that they preferred to live with families of origin as opposed to alternative care and should they be placed in alternative care, foster care was preferred to Children's Homes. The findings further emphasized the need for infrastructural support such as family preservation programmes, financial and social work support for all poverty stricken families and strengthened human resources for Children's Homes. Recommendations therefore centred around ways in which to capacitate families of origin; ways of including children in decision making and the necessary infrastructural support to ensure optimum care for vulnerable children.<br>Thesis (M.A.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, 2007

This study which was conducted in a shelter for girl street children in KwaZuluNatal explored the programmes available to the girl street child and the current evaluation strategies for such programmes. The aim of the research was to provide insight into what criteria or indices children and service providers think should be used to evaluate the effectiveness of programmes for street children. Qualitative research methodology using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach guided the research and allowed for in-depth discussions with the children living in the shelters as well as the staff involved. The children were between 12-18 years of age. Data were obtained through separate multiple focus group sessions with children and staff at the shelter. Seven focus group sessions were held with the children and three focus group sessions were held with the staff at the shelter. The sessions were tape-recorded and then transcribed. The major findings of the study indicated that the children overall were enjoying their stay in the shelter. However, inconsistencies were identified between the experiences of the children and the work conducted by the staff members. Further, the findings of this study showed that programmes at the shelter being studied were evaluated, but the effectiveness of these evaluation strategies has been questioned.
