Abstract:
This study analyzes the weight control strategies in Abidjan and the issues that motivate them. The study covers 400 Abidjanes from 18 to older, including 05 persons mainly from the medical corps. From the quantitative and qualitative approaches focused respectively on a survey and open interviews, focus groups and direct observation, the results show that the cult of thinness gradually became fad, so that young people and adults seniors are the faithful. weight control strategies are structured primarily around food restriction and not sedentary. Implicit issues such efforts are among others seeking health and esthetics or beauty of the body. Despite these efforts, most of the faithful of the thinness of Abidjan lapse back into the overweight and obesity because sport and thought food restriction as effective ways to lose weight can not achieve their objective (thinness) and long term.

Abstract:
Abstract. Every year, rains cause material damage and human losses, in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire). The objective of this study is to contribute to the characterization of the rain hazard in the District of Abidjan. The available data are made up of daily rainfall from a historical station “Abidjan airport” (1961–2014) and an academic network of rain gauges (21) progressively implemented in Abidjan since 2015. A descriptive analysis (date of occurrence, rainfall depth, mean wet days intensity and number of rainy days) on the Highest Cumulative Rainfall Periods (HCRP: 60 d) is conducted on the long-term station. The periods of highest risk of flooding during the long and short rainy seasons are characterized. The Experimental variograms of extreme rainfalls derived from the current network, allow to evaluate their extensions according to the rainy season.

Abstract:This article examines the effects of the post-2002 sociopolitical crisis in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, on urban and peri-urban agriculture. Based on the case study of Abidjan, it argues for a conceptualization of sustainability that includes social as well as environmental dimensions and focuses on coping strategies of producers and merchants. In Abidjan, these strategies included internal migration within the city and its periphery, the use of organic fertilizers, and changes in market structure. The study illustrates how such strategies allowed producers to continue to supply produce to the market, despite the difficulties of war.

Abstract:
The Abidjan Port in Ivory Coast has the second highest volume of Container Throughput in West Africa and aims to become a hub Port for the region and one of the most developed Port in Africa in the coming years. In this article, several Forecasting Models are applied to accurately forecast the Abidjan Port Container Throughput. These models are the Grey model, the Linear Regression model, the Double Exponential Smoothing model and a Combination Forecast model. After the application of each model, their results have been compared with the mean absolute percentage error. From their results, the Double Exponential Smoothing model has got the smallest error and been found to have the best data available on the research work, becoming at the same time, the best forecasting model for the Abidjan Port Container Throughput. A forecast of the Abidjan Port Container Throughput was finally made for the period covering the year 2015 up to the year 2020.

The objective of thisstudywas to determine the level of contamination of chickenmeat and eggscollectedfrompoultryfarms in Ivory Coast by antibiotics (sulfadiazine, sulfadimethoxine, sarafloxacin and oxytetracycline). To carry out thiswork, thirty (30) samples of chickenflesh and thirty-six (36) samples of eggswerecollected on the two sites (Abidjan point kilometer 17 and Agnibilékrou). Thesesampleswereprocessed and thenassayed on a SHIMADZU chromatographic system consisting of a sample changer, a high pressure binary HPLC pump and a UV-Visible absorption detector. The results of the analyses showed the presence of antibiotics in the chickenmeatcollected in Abidjan and Agnibilékrou with variable levels. In Abidjan, apartfromsarafloxacin, the levels of the otherantibioticsdetected in the chickenmeatwereabove the European Union standards. In Agnibilékrou, they are all outside the standards except for oxytetracycline. Regardingeggsamples, the resultsshowed the presence of only one antibioticmolecule (sulfadiazine) in eggsamplestaken in Abidjan and Agnibilékrou withlevelsbelow the standard set by the European Union.

Abstract:
Abstract From 2008 to 2017, the city of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire experienced several Aedes-borne disease epidemics which required control of the vector mosquito population based on the reduction of larval habitats and insecticidal sprays for adult mosquitoes. This study was undertaken to assess the insecticide susceptibility status of Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus) in the city of Abidjan. Immature Ae. aegypti were sampled from several larval habitats within seven communes of Abidjan and reared to adults. Three to five days old F1 emerged adults were tested for susceptibility using insecticide-impregnated papers and the synergist piperonyl butoxide (PBO) following WHO bioassay guidelines. The results showed that Ae. aegypti populations from Abidjan were resistant to 0.1% propoxur, and 1% fenitrothion, with mortality rates ranging from 0% to 54.2%. Reduced susceptibility (93.4–97.5% mortality) was observed to 0.05% deltamethrin, 0.75% permethrin, 0.05% lambda-cyhalothrin, 5% malathion, and 0.8% chlorpyrifos-methyl. This reduced susceptibility varied depending on the insecticide and the collection site. The restoration of mortality when the mosquitoes were pre-exposed to the synergist PBO suggests that increased activity of oxidases could be contributing to resistance. Three kdr mutations (V410L, V1016I, and F1534C) were present in populations tested, with low frequencies for the Leu410 (0.28) and Ile1016 (0.32) alleles and high frequencies for the Cys1534 allele (0.96). These findings will be used to inform future arbovirus vector control activities in Abidjan.

Abstract:
A new ivorian society is being built from different sociocultural groups assembled in abidjan. But the diversity of civilization values makes the social integration of individuals difficult. This favours the development of marginal behaviours heightened, in other respects, by the appeal to an imported legislation regarded as the only one capable of evenning and harmonizing collective and individual conducts all over the national territory. The greatest number of criminals pricipally concerns young people coming from the low-classes of the society. The measures taken by the authorities to curls criminality prove in effectual. Actual structures of prevention and of the treatment of the offenders devised in a programme of planned actions are indispensable to stop criminality in general and juvenile crime in particular. The affirmation of a realpolitical willingness in the struggle against crime seems to be the only success-token

Abstract:
Peri-urban breeding is a hot topic in a world increasingly characterized by urban growth. However, the link between city and breeding in the large agglomerations of West Africa remains less studied under the prism of metropolisation. Knowing that moderns poultry and pig productions have flourished in Abidjan since the mid-1970s without officially dedicated space, this thesis questions the influence of metropolisation on their territorialization on the Ivorian economic capital periphery. In a cross-section of urban and rural geography, our field surveys allowed us to grasp, on the one hand, a tendency to relocate « step by step » at the time of the old buds of Abidjan's spatial expansion. On the other hand, we see the creation of new farms or a renewed dynamics of poultry farms located farther from the metropolis, notably in Agnibilékrou, Assinie, Jacqueville or Agboville. While the structural land routes and the financial possibilities of industrialists reorganize the poultry production area, things are lesser for pig farms. Thus, the variability of responses at the producer level alone would tend to stabilize with clearer regional agro-industrial development

Abstract:
In Abidjan, deficiencies of space occurred the multiplication of under-equipped district in where, live poor populations. In this environment of precariousness, the conditions of mobility of the populations are more difficult because in particular of a bad system of public transport. In these districts, the walking is the principal mode used and the majority of displacements are restricted in space and less diversified. According to whether proximity, internal or not displacement, it is initially the walking, then the communal taxi woro-woro and the minibus gbaka or transport by bus; but the latter is of more difficult access because its network does not serve these districts. To solve the problem of mobility of these poor populations, the report initially proposes to master the planning of the city of Abidjan, to develop the sector of the services of taxis and minibus by the reorganization of the market of public transport, in a logic of complementarily (intermodality) of the various modes or existing services of transport

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is firstly to analyze the contribution of women et work in the ivory coast and secondly, to evaluate the consequences of their working status on their married life. Two major periods brought on significant charges in the employment of women in the ivory coast. These vears beetween 1946 and 1964, and 1964 and 1983, leading to more political charges than a radical restructurating of society. Namely, the abolition of froced labour (5 april 1946), the enforcement of the civil code in 1964 and the making of new laws concerning the population and more specifically women in 1983. In the first part of our work, we evaluate the degree of integration of women in the urban economy of the ivory coast. Traditional view regarding the place of women in society and the poor schooling received by girls do of course hinder this process. In the second part, we examine the legislator's standpoint as reflected by the labour laws which stipulate that "women are entitled to work professionally without their husband's consent", and the reality

Abstract:

Abstract:
With a population of nearly four million inhabitants, the district of Abidjan is subject to various changes : economic, social, cultural, environmental and health, and rapid urbanization. This urbanization caused by the population explosion has resulted in the development of informal settlements and the deterioration of the urban environment. Thus are generated 1,168,000 tons of waste per year, or 0. 8 kg / habitant / day. These wastes are discharged into the single discharge Akouedo, opened in 1965, would not meet any standard. The District of Abidjan is facing serious difficulties in managing household waste by the specificity of the urban dynamic. Thus we are faced with a multitude of actors who invested the field. Our research attempts to identify the different actors in charge of waste management and how can they work in synergy and complementarity. Are also studied the relationship between the commune and households, as well as the practices of the population. New measures have been taken by the state but the problem remains. Information and communication can play a role in the city? How the population of Abidjan can contribute to improving the management of household waste? Our research approach aims to describe and to analyze the system of household waste management in place. It is based on a literature dealing with the management of household waste in a transdisciplinary major African cities. Given the lack of data on the issue of household waste in Côte d'Ivoire, we conducted a field study with a survey of 300 households, based on the type of habitat selected two communes : Cocody and Yopougon. The data were processed and interpreted, our results have led to thematic maps using space technology. Results indicate ignorance of the communal gathering that does not play its role. Households use precollectors, whether in the residential housing or spontaneous. The pre-collection is an alternative to the failure of communal gathering. If compensation of precollectors was well defined and formal activities, channeled and supported, they certainly provide a transformation in management style. A consortium with all actors, would permit manage the waste properly, would propose the creation of specialized companies that would provide new jobs. This overall synergy, through the construction of urban governance household waste, requiring a local approach where relationships are formed between each actor for a collective interest

Abstract:
AbstractBiomass Burning (BB) aerosol has attracted considerable attention due to its detrimental effects on climate through its radiative properties. In Africa, fire patterns are anticorrelated with the southward-northward movement of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ). Each year between June and September, BB occurs in the southern hemisphere of Africa, and aerosols are carried westward by the African Easterly Jet (AEJ) and advected at an altitude of between 2 and 4 km. Observations made during a field campaign of Dynamics-Aerosol-Chemistry-Cloud Interactions in West Africa (DACCIWA) (Knippertz et al., Bull Am Meteorol Soc 96:1451–1460, 2015) during the West African Monsoon (WAM) of June–July 2016 have revealed large quantities of BB aerosols in the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) over southern West Africa (SWA).This chapter examines the effects of the long-range transport of BB aerosols on the climate over SWA by means of a modeling study, and proposes several adaptation and mitigation strategies for policy makers regarding this phenomenon. A high-resolution regional climate model, known as the Consortium for Small-scale Modelling – Aerosols and Reactive Traces (COSMO-ART) gases, was used to conduct two set of experiments, with and without BB emissions, to quantify their impacts on the SWA atmosphere. Results revealed a reduction in surface shortwave (SW) radiation of up to about 6.5 W m−2 and an 11% increase of Cloud Droplets Number Concentration (CDNC) over the SWA domain. Also, an increase of 12.45% in Particulate Matter (PM25) surface concentration was observed in Abidjan (9.75 μg m−3), Accra (10.7 μg m−3), Cotonou (10.7 μg m−3), and Lagos (8 μg m−3), while the carbon monoxide (CO) mixing ratio increased by 90 ppb in Abidjan and Accra due to BB. Moreover, BB aerosols were found to contribute to a 70% increase of organic carbon (OC) below 1 km in the PBL, followed by black carbon (BC) with 24.5%. This work highlights the contribution of the long-range transport of BB pollutants to pollution levels in SWA and their effects on the climate. It focuses on a case study of 3 days (5–7 July 2016). However, more research on a longer time period is necessary to inform decision making properly. This study emphasizes the need to implement a long-term air quality monitoring system in SWA as a method of climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Abstract:
<p>4th Abidjan Bridge is a major infrastructure project under construction in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. This 7.2km long expressway will connect residential area of Yopougon (2 million people) to the business district of the city.</p><p>The project is being managed by Ageroute while a consortium made up of Setec TPI/Setec CI/Setec International/Terrabo ingénieur conseil/Studi International manages works and design updates. China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd (CSCEC) is the general contractor of the project.</p><p>Two twin cast-in-place balanced cantilever girder bridges cross the Banco bay, with 90m spans and a length of 800 m each. They are followed by an interchange and a bridge climbing up to the plateau. These prestressed box guiders are casted in place span by span. The whole project comprises 3.2 km of pre-stressed concrete box girders.</p><p>After an overview of the project and a brief description of the different bridges, the paper focuses on a few technical issues that punctuated their design and construction.</p>

Abstract:
Abstract Due to historical ground movement, increased traffic levels, and general degradation, this important road and rail bridge which provides an essential link between the interior of the country and the Port of Abidjan, required significant repair and reinforcement. This included strengthening the pre-stressed concrete box girders and replacement of the piled foundations. Replacement piles had to be adjacent to, and no longer than, the existing piles to not compromise the stability of the operational bridge during the works. The underlying geology, however, meant that the pile loads had to be predominantly transferred into the ground through end bearing. Rather than installing a greater number of piles or larger diameter piles, innovative thinking changed the usual mind-set of designing the piles to the prevailing ground conditions, to designing the ground conditions to suit the piles. Jet grouted columns were installed beneath the toes of the new piles to increase the bearing capacity of the ground. This significantly contributed to the sustainability of the project and reduced carbon emissions through saving concrete, steel, plus transportation and disposal of spoil.

Abstract:
<p>This article reflects the forms and shapes of the Roman Catholic cathedrals built in the 20th and 21st century in the Third World countries and the approach to its ideal design. Selected examples from the different developing countries all over the world are expounded on the background of the interference of the former colonizers countries architecture (e.g. Sacred Hearts Cathedral, Casablanca, Morocco), inspiration from the traditional architecture and materials (e.g. Basilica of Uganda Martyrs, Namugongo, Uganda), creating the own style (e.g. St. Paul’s Cathedral, Abidjan, Côte D’Ivoire) or following world trends (e.g. Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kericho, Kenya). The question of the life cycle of the architecture, its subsequently costs and well considered choice of the proper material as well as the shape and resulting form is discussed.</p>
