Abstract:
This article describes a spatial model for matching semantic values between two languages, French and English. Based on semantic similarity links, the model constructs a map that represents a word in the source language. Then the algorithm projects the map values onto a space in the target language. The new space abides by the semantic similarity links specific to the second language. Then the two maps are projected onto the same plane in order to detect overlapping values. Abstract:
The purposes of this study are to explain (1) the form of politeness principles by language teacher languages and female students in the learning process of Indonesian language at SMA Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding School (SMA ABBS), (2) violation to politeness principle of female teachers and female students in learning process of Indonesian learning in SMA ABBS. Using qualitative approach, this study assigned the 2nd graders of SMA ABBS as the research subjet. Data were collected using recording techniques. Validity in this study was examined using method triangulation. Results of this study show five varieties of politeness principles including maxim of tact, generousity, praise, humanity and consciousness and the violations of the five maxims do occur in learning process of Indonesian language among teachers and female students.

Abstract:
This research aimed at finding out how the orientation is towards Arabic language computing, the efforts contributed to this approach, the difficulties encountered in linguistic computing, and the solutions to these challenges in an applied and theoretical approach at the same time. One of the outputs of the research was to develop a proposed vision and a mission (digitization or computerization of the Arabic language) within the programs of the Arabic language at Sultan Zainal Abidin University in Terengganu, Malaysia. The study concluded several recommendations, the most important was the need for concerted efforts in the field of Arabic computer linguistics between linguists and students, and to spread computer awareness among linguists by encouraging universities to allocate a course on computerization of the Arabic language and creating a new specialization in Arabic language, to develop the linguistic councils in fulfilling the challenges of computerization of Arabic, translating all scientific works written and published in the field of Arabic computer linguistics in foreign languages by Arab and foreign researchers and transferring them into Arabic, creating a dictionary for the computer linguistics terminology in Arabic, and applications of developments of instructional technologies such as machine translation, electronic dictionary and so on.

Abstract:
In a growing and competitive maritime world, it is necessary to improve the operational quality of port terminals in order to satisfy customers. This observation was made at the container terminal in Abidjan. In this paper, the goal is to minimize the overall duration of the transfer operations of the containers on railcars to neighboring countries. Considering the resources of the container terminal in Abidjan, we propose a non-linear programming model of the problem, we solved it using the AMPL language (Mathematical Programming Language) and we have used the KNITRO 10:2 solver for the solution.

Abstract:
The main purpose of this study is to explicate the aesthetics portrayed in Geni Jora novel by Abidah El Khalieqy, published by Qanita Bandung in 2009. Regarding the aesthetics approach, the author believes that this novel has presented a salient contribution to producing more creative literary works. Comprehensive dictions are carefully selected and tightened with strong aesthetic sense in representing particular moments from this novel in order to demonstrate the power of language as a strong energy in expressing any incident. Aesthetic conflicts, as a part of postmodern aesthetics, mostly appear in any scene of this novel as Abidah El Khalieqy tried to explore the most common problems women face against restrictions of binary opposition in society. Postmodern aesthetics is definitely characterized by the main character that makes this novel has its power to convey the other sides of a woman’s life.

 Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap dan mendeskripsikan estetika dalam novel Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy dengan pendekatan estetika. Estetika berperan penting bagi pengarang dalam proses kreatif penciptaan karya sastra. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah novel Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy yang diterbitkan penerbit Qanita Bandung tahun 2009. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan bahasa sebagai energi untuk mengungkapkan peristiwa dalam novel Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy tampak melalui pilihan kata (diksi) yang mampu mewakili suasana tertentu sehingga menjadikan peristiwa tersebut menyatu dan memberikan pemaknaan estetik yang cukup kuat. Adapun bentuk estetika posmodern yang digunakan dalam novel Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy berupa estetika pertentangan karena di dalamnya mengungkapkan bagaimana sesungguhnya persoalan-persoalan perempuan dikonstruksi secara sosial, dibentuk dan disimplikasi dalam cerita dengan mematahkan sebagian oposisi biner yang selama ini terjadi dalam masyararakat. Estetika posmodern yang diungkapkan melalui tokoh utama membuat novel ini memiliki kekuatan tersendiri untuk menyampaikan sisi lain kehidupan perempuan.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of sex education at the Al Abidin International Islamic Elementary School (SDII) Al Abidin, identify the level of suitability of the implementation of sex education based on the UNESCO sex education guidelines, identify the obstacles faced by teachers when implementing sex education in schools. Method: This research uses a qualitative descriptive research type. The data analysis technique used interactive analysis. Result: (1) SDII Al Abidin in the sex education program invites parents to take part in the planning and implementation of school sex education. SDII Al Abidin implements sex education through a combination of fiqh material and school material which is internalized into the planning of the PreKBM program and the school's KBM period. (2) the sex education program at SDII Al Abidin as a whole has complied with the sex education guidelines by UNESCO, methods have not been fully implemented, such as: involving youth and community leaders in sexual education planning; not yet informed about the sexually transmitted disease HIV/AIDS; and have not demonstrated individual attitudes and norms with peers about condoms and various types of contraception (3) the obstacles experienced by SDII Al Abidin, namely: asynchronous communication between teachers and some parents and teachers lack confidence in managing language.

Pulau Abidon merupakan suatu pulau karang berbukit-bukit yang berada di kawasan pulau-pulau terluar Raja Ampat di Papua Barat bagian utara. Tulisan ini membahas mengenai potensi arkeologi yang terdapat di situs gua-gua di Pulau Abidon. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami potensi arkeologi yang terdapat di Pulau Abidon. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini bersifat eksploratif. Berdasarkan data dan hasil analisis diindikasikan adanya persentuhan budaya asing yang masuk ke kawasan Papua. Potensi arkeologis tersebut dibuktikan dengan tinggalan fragmen gerabah dan lukisan dinding gua. Gambar arang di Gua Abidon 3 menggambarkan kontak budaya dengan penutur bahasa Austronesia. Lebih lanjut, hunian gua dibuktikan dengan temuan berupa alat-alat dari batu, tulang, dan kerang, fragmen gerabah, dan perhiasan kerang. Tinggalan budaya di gua-gua pulau Abidon diduga merupakan alat-alat penunjang kehidupan para penghuninya.
 Pulau Abidon is a hilly coral island located in the outer islands of Raja Ampat in the northern region of Papua Barat. This research discusses the potency of archaeology in cave sites on Pulau Abidon. This research was aimed to comprehend the archaeology of Pulau Abidon. The method used in this research is exploratory. Based on the data and analysis results, it is indicated that there was a cultural contact with a foreign culture that entered the Papua region. This potency of archaeology was evident by potsherds and rock arts. The charcoal drawings in Gua Abidon 3 illustrate a cultural contact with the Austronesian-language speakers. Furthermore, the cave habitation was evident also by the discovery of tools of stone, bones and shells, and shell ornaments. The cultural heritage in the caves on Pulau Abidon is suggested to be a means of supporting the life of the inhabitants.

 This study aims to determine the propensity of the propaganda material of Zainal Abidin, to find out the delivery style of Zainal Abidin's da'wah material based on descriptive qualitative descriptions. This method prioritizes to observe problems systematically and accurately regarding the facts and characteristics of certain objects. The findings of this study provide detailed information about the material of Zainal Abidin's da'wah to social community development which is related to the trend of modern society regarding the style of delivery of da'wah Zainal Abidin is a figure of da'i who can combine knowledge obtained with gifted talent as an intelligent person. In preaching Zainal Abidin used quality language, easy to understand and easily accepted by worshipers. In choosing words, choose simple words that can be understood by the congregation. A straightforward and easy-to-understand word will make the congregation understand the contents carefully. , singing and music are the typical delivery styles of Zainal Abidin.

Le fil conducteur de ce travail est une intuition de linguiste et d'ecrivain : "laisser une langue au contact d'un peuple dont elle n'est pas issue ne debouche pas forcement sur un deperissement de cette langue" (ahmadou kourouma). Apres avoir defini l'objet d'etude, le demodialecte "francais populaire d'abidjan", nous en avons enregistre un corpus de onze heures, que nous avons integralement transcrit en ecriture phonetique. Puis nous avons etabli deux outils d'analyse, le diaphone et le diamorphe pour en etudier la morphologie du systeme verbal. Cette etude se fonde sur le releve integral de toutes les occurences verbales du corpus, classees dans des tableaux de frequences. Il apparait que le frncais populaire d'abidjan n'est pas plus diasystematique que le francais parle de france, qu'il appartient a l'aire de l'intercomprehension du francais, et qu'il en est donc un des nombreux demodialectes. Ceci decoule de la vision de la langue non comme systeme rigoureusement agence, mais comme diasysteme approximativement bricole pour assurer l'intercomprehension. La veritable cle de ce travail est une reflexion d'ordre epistemologique : comment passet-on des donnees empiriques a l'objet d'etude lorsque l'on etablit et que l'on etudie un corpus en linguistique?<br>The main idea of this work is a linguistic intuition, so formulated by an african writer : "leaving a language in contact with a foreign people does not necessarily mean wasting this language" (ahmadou kourouma). After defining the subject of the study, which is the demodialect commonly called "abidjan popular french language" we recorded an eleven hour corpus, and entirely translated it into phonetic writing. Then, we established two analysis tools, the diaphone and the diamorphe, in order to study the morphology of the verbal system. This study is based upon the integral infrequency of all the verbal items in the corpus, classified in frequency lists. It appears that abidjan popular french language belongs to the intercomprehension area of french language, so it is one. Of its demodialects. This proceeds from the vision of the language not as a riporously adjusted system, but as an approximately arranged diasystem, which permits intercomprehension. The real key to this work is an epistemological reflexion : how can we pass from empirical data to any sort of objectivity when establishing and studying a corpus in linguistics ?

La notoriete du francais populaire d'abidjan, acquise depuis les annees 70, n'a guere incite les linguistes a poursuivre les recherches en ce domaine ; par ailleurs, les etudes des varietes non standard ne portent que rarement sur des observables syntaxiques : notre travail s'est fixe pour objectif de proposer des solutions pratiques aux obstacles specifiques a de tels terrains. La complexite de la situation sociolinguistique nous conduit a presenter un etat des lieux detaille des origines de la variation : les facteurs geographiques, sociaux et enonciatifs qui conditionnent l'emergence du continuum. L'approche du terrain est triple : l'enquete sociolinguistique inspiree des travaux laboviens pour evaluer l'emprise de la norme a tout moment de l'analyse, l'approche interactionnelle des situations de parole pour garantir l'interpretabilite du corpus, et l'edition du corpus a travers sa transcription phonetique integrale. L'analyse syntaxique a ete amorcee a partir des concepts forges par le gars pour rendre possible l'exploitation structurale d'un materiau marque par les caracteristiques de la langue parlee. Apres un inventaire chiffre des structures relevees, notre analyse met en exergue l'articulation de l'abidjanais a partir du premier actant, afin d'en degager les contraintes morphosyntaxiques et discursives<br>Abidjanee popular french has aquired some notoriety in the scientific world during the seventies - before discouraging the research work in this field, mainly because the approach poses serious problems. In parallel, we notice that researches on the nonstandard varieties are often limited to lexical considerations - neglecting general linguistics and stille more so, syntax. The aim of my research paper is to suggest some practical solutions to some specific obstacles encountered in this field. My analysis tackles the geographic and cultural deep-rooting of this continuum, its social origins and the interactional factors that condition its emergence. The fieldwork is based on a sociolinguistic quest to evaluate the impact of the norm at any moment of the analysis ; an interactional approach of language situations in order to reconstruct the contextual data of the collected utterances. At last, the edition of the utterances in the way of their integral transcription, concieved in function of the characteristics of the individual variation and in function of analysis needs. The syntactic analysis begins using the concepts worked out by the gars to make possible the structural approach of such material marked by the characteristics of spoken language. After a general inventory of the structures gathered my work sheds some light on the internal articulation oft the abidjanee system by focussing on the first actant, working out the system's inherent dynamic, the tension between morphosyntactic and discursive constraints

Abstract:
The author argues that as the mothers of the women interviewed for this study introduced them to Mexican popular Catholic expressions of faith, they also socialized their daughters into the strict gender expectations of the institutional Church. The chapter offers an intersectional analysis of dress codes, Mass attendance, prayer, language, and ethnicity as experienced by the women in all three age groups. The author argues that the differences in the women’s religious education and practices relate to whether they grew up in a pre– or post–Vatican II Catholic Church, their generation, geographical location, and migration. The extent to which these women were expected by their mothers and the Church to abide by a strict Catholic code of conduct also influenced the development of their religious practices.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter examines languages as a third point of entanglement that has both spatial and temporal ramifications while at the same time being sites where domination is both sustained and disrupted. It starts by describing the linguistic reality of the islands in the seventeenth century discussing how the plurilingualism that existed caused challenges for the narratives, which had to abide to contemporary aesthetics. The analysis show that travelers engaged with languages as praxes and were forced into conceiving languages as processual constantly changing in relation to other languages, existing languages as well as languages in the making. Focusing principally on Breton’s dictionary, it demonstrates how travelogues testify to the inherent creativity in language crossings. The second section looks at the inclusion of direct speech in travelogues as framed within codes of representation that dramatized Indigenous and enslaved peoples, staging them for particular purposes and following rhetorical conventions. The final section challenges these formal forms of representation looking at scenes of exchanges in everyday life asking how this expression of control over other peoples’ expression also turned into sites where others would “talk back.” Throughout the chapter, Glissant’s thoughts on the role of language in the shaping of French Caribbean Baroque as well as Sarduy’s reading of Baroque language will be made operative together with theories around hetero- and translingualism.

AbstractOn the medieval Baltic Rim, foreign merchants staying in town for their trade were usually called “guests.” This linguistic connection between otherwise very different languages raises the question of whether, and how far, the medieval coastal societies around the Baltic Sea may have shared common conceptions of trade hospitality and securitization of foreign presence. This paper departs from a critique of the German/Catholic chroniclers’ guest-perspective division of the Baltic people into hospitable and unhospitable communities and argues that trade hospitality was an ambivalent enterprise that was never unconditional and always negotiated between the guests and their hosts. Indeed, from the latter’s perspective, treaties with foreign merchants raised the question of the level of safety they were prepared to provide. This meant considering not only in which ways they could benefit from their openness, but also to what extent they were ready to commit themselves toward the strangers and to protect them. In any case, trade hospitality was never unconditional, and the status of guests included rules and boundaries, such as reciprocity or peacekeeping that the rulers and the local populations expected the foreign merchants to abide by. If they did not, the hosts had to find ways to force them to comply with their expectations—if possible without them off.

Abstract The difficulty of understanding legal language is socially costly and defies the modern definition of democratic, liberal, and egalitarian society. Shielding the law from public understanding has an exclusivist and elitist flavor—and a clericalist one in the church—as Latin canon law is intended solely for the comprehension of a clerical elite. The plain language movement responds to these problems by proposing how to make the language of the law easier to comprehend. These proposals are also relevant for canon law. Here, however, one major point in the debate has to be the elemental question of whether to abide with Latin as canon law’s authentic language.

Located in West Africa, Ivory Coast covers an area of 322,462 square kilometres (km) and has a population of about 23 million. It borders Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, and Mali. Its capital city is Yamoussoukro, but the economic capital and largest city is the port city of Abidjan. As a former French colony, its official language is French. Its currency is the CFA franc (CFA). Following a decade of political turmoil and incidents of civil unrest and violent conflict, business has been booming in this West African country in recent years. Ivory Coast is the largest economy in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WEAMU). It is the world’s top exporter of cocoa and raw cashew nuts, an offshore oil producer, and has a significant manufacturing sector. Its GDP in 2016 amounted to US$36.37 billion, making it the fourteenth largest economy in Africa. The three main imports are crude petroleum, rice, and refined petroleum. Goods imported outside of the Economic Community of West African States cannot be imported by land and can only go through Customs at Abidjan or San-Pédro after being brought in either by air or by sea. This chapter employs the mediazation of politics, or the changes that the use of media for political purposes has brought about, to understand the intertwinement of the rules and regulations by which media products abide. Through examples of digital stories of undocumented youth in the U.S., posted on YouTube, the chapter demonstrates that digital stories not only provide a solid base for multimodal analysis, but they may also foster (digital) media literacy skills of English as foreign language learners in German high school. Yet, students need to understand how to read the multimodal language of new media correctly to truly participate in current political debates of the 21st century.

Abstract The Ivory Coast borders Liberia and Guinea in the west, Mali and Burkina Faso in the north, Ghana in the east, and the North Atlantic Ocean in the south. The country has two main topographical zones: the savannah in the north and the forest zone in the south. According to the latest census (1998), the population is 15 million inhabitants, of which 78 per cent are located in the forest zone of the south. The population is mostly Muslim (39 per cent) or Christian (30 per cent). Although Yamoussoukro is the formal capital, Abidjan is the commercial and administrative centre of the country, with 3 million inhabitants. Other important cities are Bouaké, Korhogo, Daloa, Gagnoa, and San Pedro. The Ivory Coast was a French colony from 1893 to 1960, when it became La République de Côte d’Ivoire. The country is among the world’s largest producers and exporters of coffee and cocoa and by maintaining close ties with France and encouraging foreign investments, the Ivory Coast has developed into one of the most prosperous states in sub-Saharan Africa. However, since the death of the nation’s founder Félix Houphouët-Boigny in 1993, the country has faced increasingly severe ethno-political problems, which have resulted in a division of the country into a government-held south and a rebel-held north.

Discriminatory writing assessment practices in first-year composition are rampant across academic institutions in the U.S. These practices have helped perpetuate standard language ideology that serves the interests of the institutionalized racism and done a disservice to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), whose writing practices fail to abide by the conventions of standard English. This chapter holds implicit biases and stereotypical perceptions engendered by instructors and academia chiefly responsible for these discriminatory assessment practices and argues that these go against the spirit of social justice in writing classrooms, particularly impacting academic trajectories and other life chances of BIPOC students. Finally, it offers some recommendations on how these unfair assessment practices that rest on implicit biases can be checked using culturally relevant pedagogy, which incorporates translingualism and multimodality, and the roles different stakeholders can play in this process.

Recording and documenting human and AI-driven normative decision-making processes has so far been highly challenging. We focus on the challenge of normative coordination: the process by which stakeholders in a community understand and agree what norms they abide by. Our aim is to develop and formalize the FLINT language, which allows a high-level description of normative systems. FLINT enables legal experts to agree on norms, while also serving as a basis for technical implementation. Our contribution consists of the development of an ontology for FLINT and its RDF/OWL implementation which we have made openly accessible. We designed the ontology on the basis of competency questions. Additionally, we validated the ontology by modeling example cases and using the ontology’s data model in software tooling.

ABSTRACT Background: TB/HIV coinfectioned remains the leading cause of mortality among people living with HIV (PLHIV). The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of HIV infection on mortality in patients with tuberculosis in Asia. Subjects and Method: This was meta-analysis and systematic review. The study was conducted by collecting published studies from Google Scholar, PubMed, Springer Link, Hindawi, Clinical Key, and ProQuest databases, from 2010 to 2020. Keywords used “HIV” AND “mortality” OR “HIV Mortality” OR “Tuberculosis Mortality” AND “cross sectional” AND “adjusted odd ratio”. The inclusion criteria were full text, using English or Indonesian language, using cross-sectional study design, and reporting adjusted odds ratio. The articles were selected by PRISMA flow chart. The quantitative data were analyzed using random effect model run on Review Manager 5.3. Results: 5 studies in Asia (Thailand, China, Malaysia, and Oman) were included for this study. Meta analysis study reported that HIV elevated the risk of mortality in patients with tuberculosis (aOR= 3.45; 95% CI= 1.14 to 10.45; p = 0.030).
