Abstract:
Infantile nystagmus is an involuntary, bilateral, conjugate, and rhythmic oscillation of the eyes which is present at birth or develops within the first 6 months of life. It may be pendular or jerk-like and, its intensity usually increases in lateral gaze, decreasing with convergence. Up to 64% of all patients with nystagmus also present strabismus, and even more patients have an abnormal head position. The abnormal head positions are more often horizontal, but they may also be vertical or take the form of a tilt, even though the nystagmus itself is horizontal. The aim of this article is to review available information about the origin and treatment of the abnormal head position associated to nystagmus, and to describe our treatment strategies.

Abstract:
The cracking state and abnormal positions are recognized during T beam model tests using the BP neural network based novelty detection technology. Neural network training sample data is generated by analyzing the static load test data, the neural network model based on novelty detection technology is established, the state of the T beam anomaly recognition and crack position recognition is accomplished. Stepwise partition method is used in crack position recognition, which includes narrowing the crack position as the first step, specifically analyzing the sensor data, and determination of the crack position. T beam neural network model is verified by the measured data. The results show that, the method can accurately identify state and effectively identify the location of the crack.

Abstract:
Abstract   Purpose The purpose of this thesis is; “To find out whether a strategy based on accumulated stock recommendations are able to outperform mutual funds and/or index funds with similar holdings over time”. Background During the past 30 years the interest for the financial market has been ever increasing. With the increased interest for the financial market, also an increased interest for the different investment alternatives have developed, thus also the amount of various financial products. Further there has been a discussion whether the different investment products actually add value to the investors. Method To be able to reach our purpose we have constructed a portfolio containing stocks based on recommendations. We have also come up with a method in order to decide the weights of the individual stocks in our portfolio. Further, we have used existing theories in order to estimate the return and the standard deviation. We have also benchmarked our portfolio against popular funds on the market. Conclusion We have seen that our portfolio during the six years running have performed better than the existing funds and also resulted in a lower standard deviation i.e. risk. Thus the results are applicable on our specific data, more research is needed in order to make any statements of statistical significance.

Full text
Abstract:

Problem: An efficient market fully reflects all available information about a company in its share price. Furthermore any new information presented about a company will lead to an instant adaptation in the share price. Henceforth an investor can not reach abnormal returns on an efficient market. The Stockholm stock exchange is afairly large stock exchange with a turnover of SEK 14000 millions per day. Prior studies conducted regarding the efficiency of the Stockholm stock exchange have stated that the stock exchange was efficient on a semistrong level. However these studies were conducted with a time frame of several weeks and therefore the authors distinguished a need for a study aiming at short term efficiency. Furthermore this thesis aims to investigate the effects of the presentation of positive annual and interim reports. A positive report is defined as a report that leads to an increase in share price the day it is presented and consequently includes all events on the day of the presentation, e.g. the press conference. The thesis was written from an investors’ perspective, who is about to buy shares.

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis was to describe and analyze the Stockholm stock exchange market’s efficiency. This was done during the days surrounding the presentation of annual and interim reports rendering an increase in share price. Furthermore the possibilities of making abnormal returns by buying shares during this period were investigated.

Method: To investigate the efficiency of the Stockholm stock exchange an event study was carried out. Data regarding the performance of the shares of the fifteen most traded com-panies on the Stockholm stock exchange were collected from the OMX groups’ homepage. The chosen companies together represented more than fifty percent of the turnover of the OMXS 30 index. The index was used as a benchmark for measuring the efficiency. The share price movement was analyzed with a quantitative approach through a statistical T-test with the assistance of the SPSS 13.0.

Result: The authors claim that the Stockholm stock exchange is not efficient on a semistrong level the day after the presentation of a positive report, as the shares displayed a negative abnormal deviation from the OMXS 30 index. The deviation was statistically verified. However the authors state that no abnormal returns can be reached by buying shares during this period since the deviation was negative. The period as a whole and the other tested days came out as efficient on a semi-strong level.

Full text
Abstract:
Purpose: The study has investigated whether or not stock splits on the Stockholm Stock Exchange during the years 2004-2008 generated positive abnormal return and in such case, has there been any difference in the positive abnormal return depending on firm size. Theory: The efficient market hypothesis, especially in its semi-strong form, has provided a theoretical framework for the essay. Method: A quantitative deductive research approach is applied with event study methodology used as basis. The study concerns a five-year period 2004-2008, where a selection of 56 splits met set criteria. These were divided into three groups depending on their capital size at the split date. The price data for 250 days before the split, and 250 days after were collected for the companies with regard to split day. The same data was collected for OMXSPI that was used as a benchmark. Results: The result together with hypothesis testing shows that positive abnormal return associated with stock split has been found in the overall population. A possible correlation between the firm size and the extent of positive abnormal returns has also been discovered. The single greatest positive abnormal return was measured on the split date. Analysis: An analysis of the results indicates that the market perceived stock split as positive news. There has been a positive abnormal return around the time of a stock split in line with previous research. The exclusion of a subgroup that failed hypothesis test revealed a partly confirmed negative relationship between firm size and the amount of positive abnormal returns. Conclusion: Investors have been able to generate positive abnormal returns in association with stock split on the Stockholm Stock Exchange from 2004 to 2008. The results suggest a negative correlation between firm size and positive abnormal returns, however, the correlation is not fully confirmed.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Investors are constantly searching for new ways to obtain a higher return on the market. This study examines if the stock prices for the companies within the market index OMXS30 changes more than expected when an earnings announcement is published and if it is possible to benefit from it in order to obtain a higher return. The study investigates how well the traditional theories, such as the efficient market hypothesis and random walk, can explain the market today by performing two event studies that represent different investment strategies. Event study 1 examine how the stock price changes before earnings announcement. Event study 2 examine how the stock price changes if you own the stock when the earnings announcement is published and sells it afterwards. The results from the event studies show that the null hypothesis are rejected at a 5 percent significance level, where event study 1 had an abnormal return of 0.84 percent and event study 2 had an abnormal return of 5.46 percent. Based on the results of the study the conclusion is that it is possible to obtain an abnormal return using the two investment strategies.

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate if an outside investor can gain positive return from investing in company stocks on the Swedish stock market following published announcements of insider stock purchases done through the Swedish financial regulatory authority Finansinspektionen’s public insider transaction registry. Studying a total of 5 966 announced stock purchases during the period 2014 – 2018, the study finds significant positive abnormal return over all studied time periods following the announcement date, regardless of differences in company size. Highest return was found in smaller companies, at the cost of accepting a higher degree of risk. Despite significant results showing informational value of the announced purchases, economic gain from following insider behavior could be inhibited by the cost of investment and would require the outside investor to pick the right stock, which could prove difficult.

Abstract:
Title: A study of the positive market reaction to CEO changes in the Nordic region. Level: Student thesis, final assignment for Bachelor Degree in Business Administration  Authors: Malin Ahlqvist and Niklas Örn Supervisor: Jan Svanberg Date: 2019 - June Aim: The purpose of this study is to analyze how the Scandinavian market reacts to the announcement of a new CEO and to analyze how the factors gender, age and recruitment method can affect this reaction. Method: The study has a positivistic research philosophy with a deductive basis. The study applies an Event study and is thus associated with a quantitative research method. Result & Conclusions: The results of the study indicate a positive market reaction in Scandinavia at the announcement of a CEO change. The study also indicates a positive market reaction for both women and men. Furthermore, the study indicate that the market reaction is positive in Sweden and Finland as well as negative in Denmark and Norway. The market reaction for men under median age is positive while the reaction for men over median age is negative, the market reaction for women based on age is opposite to men. The study indicates that there is a positive reaction when the incoming CEO is internally recruited and a negative reaction when the incoming CEO is externally recruited. However, some parts of the results are not significant, therefore it cannot be ruled out that certain parts of the results are random. Contribution of the thesis: This thesis contributes to fill the research gap that exists regarding the market reaction to CEO changes related to age, gender, recruitment method and a comparative Scandinavian perspective. Suggestions for future research: This study shows on several occasions a significant market reaction the day before the actual announcement date of the CEO change, we believe a study to further study the reason behind this result would be of interest. Two more suggestions for further research are presented in the study.

This paper use stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) to estimate the cost efficiency as the determinant of synergy to investigate the relationship between the efficiency and valuation effect of M&A. We analysis all M&A activities in America from 1980 to 2015. We find that the acquirers gain the higher stock reaction from their better prior year efficiency in M&A activities. Moreover, the shape of acquirer efficiency and change of Tobin’s Q is an inverted u-curve pattern. The post-merge value improvement in America is being led by the acquirer with appropriate efficiency level. There seems to exist an optimal efficiency level that can help to maximize the acquirer’s value after M&A transactions.

Abstract:
This chapter weaves together two stories that are usually told separately. The first is the story of disability, especially how people have talked about bodies perceived as defective, deviant, or deformed. The second is the story of music, especially how music theorists have talked about musical features perceived as in some sense abnormal. Traditional music theory is a normalizing discourse, designed to rationalize abnormal musical elements (like formal anomalies or dissonant harmonies) with respect to normal ones, and it has thus implicitly allied itself with the medical model of disability. A countertradition within music theory is a disablist discourse that embraces elements traditionally understood as strange, odd, eccentric, and idiosyncratic, without making any effort to position them within a normative context, and is thus aligned with the sociocultural model of disability. Disablist music theory crips music.

Abstract:
Neuroimaging of psychotic disorders began in the 1970s with studies of brain structure, followed by studies of blood flow, glucose metabolism, and receptor chemistry. More recently, studies of functional activation, connectivity, and neurotransmission have been added. The widespread availability of MRI has liberated researchers from the constraints of postmortem research and the limitations of inferring brain abnormalities through neurochemical effects in plasma or urine. Neuroimaging researchers aim to establish diagnostic markers, explain abnormal mental states, test anatomical and neurochemical models, and study the association of risk genes with brain abnormalities. Most studies have been cross-sectional and limited in size. But the ability to assess patients longitudinally and with large-scale study designs will ensure a prominent position for this research domain in the study of psychotic disorders.

This chapter argues that mental symptoms are the interruption of this dialogue through which we strive to build and maintain our personal identity and our position in the world. The person is engaged in trying to cope with, solve, and make sense of the basic disturbing experiences stemming from her clash with alterity. When a symptom emerges, the line of the pathogenic trajectory is the following: (1) a disproportion of alterity and the person’s resources for understanding, of emotions and rationality, of pathos and logos, of otherness and selfhood, bringing about a disturbing metamorphosis of self and world experience; (2) a miscarried auto-hermeneutics or self-interpretation of one’s abnormal experiences and of the transformations of the life-world that they bring about; (3) the fixation in a psychopathological structure in which the dialectics between the person and alterity gets lost.

Abstract:
Preterm labour is a common cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. This chapter describes the definition, aetiology, diagnosis, and management of preterm labour and delivery with a focus on tocolytic therapy, the use of antenatal corticosteroids, and of magnesium sulphate. Anaesthesia for preterm delivery is discussed. The section on multiple pregnancy details the recommended antenatal careplan for dichorionic and monochorionic twin pregnancies, the fetal and maternal risks and potential complications, and the management of labour and delivery of twins, as well as the anaesthetist’s role in managing these high-risk pregnancies. There are a number of abnormal presentations managed by obstetricians, including abnormal cephalic presentations such as occiputo-posterior positions, breech, transverse, and compound presentations. This chapter focuses specifically on breech presentation, comparing the evidence for vaginal breech delivery versus planned caesarean delivery. It also discusses external cephalic version and vaginal breech delivery itself.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the origins and characteristic features of statehood in Africa, in particular the position at the time of the arrival of European agencies. It examines the climate of opinion in which the first treaties were concluded and compares it with the sui generis relationship between the contracting parties that later developed at the height of the European–African confrontation. The rapidity of change resulted in some abnormal legal institutions, including the ‘colonial protectorate’. A number of fundamental questions arise in the analysis of treaties: the legal capacity of the contracting parties, particularly of the African rulers and chiefs; the freedom of consent in the particular African circumstances as emphasised at the Berlin Conference of 1885; and the form of treaties and the application of various treaty rules. Among the particular stipulations, those referring to the establishment of protectorates and to jurisdictional capitulations are singled out for special attention.

Abstract:
Pectus excavatum is the most common congenital chest wall deformity in children. It is characterized by a posterior depression of the sternum resulting from defective growth of the surrounding rib cartilage. This abnormality in thoracic architecture can lead to a progressive reduction in cardiopulmonary capacity. An early surgical approach popularized by Ravitch involved an open repair with removal of abnormal rib cartilage to allow for regrowth of the rib cartilage to the sternum in a more anterior position. Subsequently, Nuss popularized a minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum which involves the internal bracing of the chest wall and anterior displacement of the sternum without cutting of the rib cartilage. It is now the most common surgical approach for pectus excavatum correction. Anesthesiologists should acutely be aware of the potential intraoperative complications associated with this procedure as well as the postoperative challenges this procedure poses in terms of pain management.

Abstract:
Congenital abnormalities of the pulmonary valve (PV) are common either as a single lesion or in the context of more complex congenital lesions where abnormalities of the PV play a major role in the cardiac physiology. Transthoracic echocardiographic (TTE) imaging of the PV is relatively straightforward in the normally connected heart due to its anterior position close to common sonographic windows. Imaging of the abnormally positioned PV requires modifications to standard projections and may be better demonstrated by a transoesophageal (TOE) or three-dimensional (3D) echocardiographic approach. Standard 3D TTE may offer advantages in surgical planning for an abnormally positioned pulmonary valve in complex congenital anatomy and 3D TOE may add value to the demonstration of abnormalities of the subpulmonary right ventricular outflow tract.

Abstract:
♦ The fundamental principle or essence of the shoulder is concavity compression. Stability of the shoulder is the condition in which a balanced centralizing joint reaction force (CJRF) exists to maintain concavity compression of the glenohumeral joint whatever the position of the limb and hand.♦ Instability is a symptom. It can be defined as the condition of symptomatic abnormal motion of the joint. It refers to a perturbation of concavity compression. It is not a diagnosis.♦ Instability is the result of perturbations of structural factors and non-structural factors.♦ The clinical syndrome of instability is a disturbance of one or more of these factors in isolation or together. The relative importance of each factor to the syndrome can change over time. The relationship between these factors is described by the Stanmore triangle.♦ Both structural and non-structural factors can be perturbed by arrested or incomplete development (dysplasia) or by injury (disruption).♦ The aim of treatment is the restoration of (asymptomatic) stable motion by restoration of the CJRF and so restoration of the condition of concavity compression.♦ Management follows simple principles: surgery should be undertaken within the context of a well-considered rehabilitation program largely centred around optimizing rotator cuff function.♦ Failures of management are often due to failure of or incomplete diagnosis, failure of healing, inadequate attention to patient- and pathology- specific rehabilitation programs, or insufficient attention to lifestyle considerations.♦ Disrupted anatomy is restored, preferably by anatomic operations with predictably good outcomes. Dysplastic anatomy is augmented, often by non-anatomic operations with less predictable outcomes. Revision stabilizations are generally nonanatomic, and have higher failure rates.

Abstract:
Patients with neuromuscular disorders such as Parkinson’s disease (PD), traumatic brain or spinal cord injury, or multiple sclerosis (MS) can develop different levels of abnormal muscle behavior (hypertonia) such as rigidity and spasticity [1], [2]. Hypertonia can affect different parts of the body such as upper or lower extremities. Symptoms include pain, increased muscle tone, spasms, and decreased functional abilities. Hypertonia can interfere with many activities of daily living, greatly affecting the quality of life in patients and causing anxiety, depression, and social isolation [2].

Abstract:
We find that, in addition to a normal fibrinopeptide A (FPA), fibrinogen Long Beach releases an abnormal FPA whose HPLC behavior suggests and whose amino acid analysis confirms the substitution of His for Arg at position 16, the thrombin cleavage site. However, this dysfibrinogen displays properties strikingly different from those previously reported to be associated with Aa 16 Arg → His substitutions. These properties include a limited release of normal FPA (18-20%) by both thrombin and batroxobin, an essentially full release of abnormal FPA (40-50%) by thrombin (1.5 NIH u/ml) in contrast to a 7-8% release of abnormal FPA by batroxobin, and a complete failure of highly purified batroxobin to clot the dysfibrinogen while generating a fragment which migrates between the B8 and y chains on SDS gel electrophoresis. The basis for these differing properties is not yet clear.

Abstract:
Genetically abnormal, dysfunctional fibrinogen variants may be used as unique models for studies of structure-function relationships both in vitro and in vivo. Out of the over kO so far structurally elucidated abnormal fibrinogens only 4 have an amino acid substitution in the Bg-chain. These variants are named Fibrinogen Pontoise, Nev York I, Christchurch II and Seattle I.Fibrinogens Seattle I and Christchurch II are slow-clotting fibrinogens which on thrombin-treatment release only half the normal amount of fibrinopeptide B and therefore were expected to contain an amino acid substitution close to the thrombin cleavage site in the Bβ-chain. In order to sequence the abnormal Bg-chains the fibrinogens were cleaved with thrombin and cyanogen bromide. The abnormal Bβ-chain components were isolated from the mercapto-lysed-pyridylethylated N-terminal disulfide knots. After pyroglu-tamyl-peptidase digestion the Bβ 14 Arg→Cys substitutions could be demonstrated for both variants by direct N-terminal sequence analysis. The form of the cyst(e)ine residue was determined by amino acid analysis of the alkylated native fibrinogen. As no alkylated cysteine was detected it was concluded that Bβ 14 Cys participates in a disulfide bridge.Fibrinogens Seattle I and Christchurch II are the first two elucidated fibrinogens with substitutions at the Bβ-chain thrombin cleavage site. Surprisingly, both the thrombin and Reptilase times are prolonged. It may be assumed that the half-cystine residues in position 14 of the two Bβ-chains within one fibrinogen molecule are disulfide-linked to each other, in an analogous way to that already established for the half-cystine residues in position 16 of the Aα-chains of several abnormal fibrinogens. This additional disulfide bridge might change the conformation and charge in the N-terminal region sufficiently to explain the prolonged clotting times. Furthermore, this bridge would provide the evidence for the parallel arrangement of the Bβ-chains at the fibrinogen N-terminus in a similar way as previously shown for the Aα-chains.

Abstract:
This paper describes in detail the case history of a steam turbine affected by very high level of vibrations. Spectral analysis showed that the turbine shaft exhibited high sub-synchronous harmonic components. The analysis of the machine dynamic behavior, fully described here, allowed excluding some causes of instability like steam whirl or oil whirl/whip. The cause of the abnormal vibration level was ascribed to fluttering phenomena that affected some shoes of one of the “load on pad-type” four-pad tilting-pad journal bearings on which the rotor was supported. This abnormal behaviour was caused by the assembling error of the bottom shoe. Moreover, when approaching the operating speed, it was rather difficult to obtain a suitable convergent oil-film on the lateral pads. This reason, as well as the periodic changes of the journal position inside the bearing caused by the shaft synchronous vibrations due to the turbine residual imbalance, generated the excitation of sub-synchronous vibrations of both pads and shaft.

Abstract:
A laboratory screening was performed in the case of a one month old female child because of a mild umbilical stump haemorrhage. This screening showed a low amount of thrombin clottable fibrinogen (method according to Clauss: 0.2 gr/l) but no other abnormalities. Fibrin(ogen) degradation products could not be detected; factor XIII: 30% ; the amount of fibrinogen related antigen (rocketimmunoelectrophoresis) was at least 3 fold higher than the amount of thrombin clottable fibrinogen. In "heat defibrinated" samples this discrepancy was much more pronounced. Crossed immunoelectrophoresis in the absence and presence of calcium showed a slightly abnormal form and position of the precipitation arc. Reptilase induced fibrin clot formation appeared to be less abnormal than thrombin induced fibrin clot formation. These preliminary results provide evidence for the presence of a combined hypo-dysfibrinogenemia. These results do not allow us to conclude that our case can be distinghuished from other abnormal fibrinogens. We have planned In the near future the definitive purification and characterization. A remarkable point in our case is, that the family history appeared to be negative, as well as the preliminary results of the laboratory investigations of the father, mother and sister. Consanguinity between the parents was absent. We assume that our case is an example of a spontaneous mutation, in contrast to most of the described hypo- and dysfibrinogenemias, which follow a dominant inheritance pattern.

Aqueous humor (AH) constantly flows in the anterior eye to provide avascular tissues, notably the lens and cornea, with oxygen and nutrients. If AH outflow is impeded, the normal intraocular pressure could reach to dangerous levels. In angle closure, the abnormal shape and position of the iris is directly related to the blockage of the outflow. In particular, when the peripheral iris moves forward, it may narrow or close the angle between the iris and cornea, where most of AH leaves the anterior eye.

Abstract:
Light microscopic examinations on platelets in Gray Platelet Syndrome(GPS) showed peculiar gray colored platelets due to deficiency in ^-granules on the peripheral blood smear by May-Grunwald-Giemsa stain. Besides α-granule deficiency, however, several morphological abnormalities, especially abnormal features of dense tubular system(DTS) etc., were recognized in the transmission electronmicroscopic examinations. In the platelet function tests, release abnormalities rather than storage-pool deficiency were noted. We were strongly interested in the relationships between these morphological and functional abnormalities, because DTS in the platelets have been thought to be main storage sites of intracellular Ca ion.We examined the intracellular Ca++ mobilization using aequo-rin loaded platelets by means of Lumi-aggregometer(Salzman's method) under the stimulation of A-23187 and thrombin, and also morphological changes of platelets during the process of platelet aggregation by light |ipd transmission electronmicroscope.Intracellular Ca concentration increased dose-dependently after addition of A-23187 in both normal and GPS platelets. Namely, besides the first peak of emission which located at the same site as normal control, the slowly appearing second peak were recognized on the trace line by the addition of A-23187 and also abnormal by thrombin in GPS platelets. Transmission electronmi-crographs showed insufficient contraction of platelet-aggregates and malformation or wide appearance of pseudopods by the addition of A-23187 and thrombin. Most of the contractile gels, which were usually seen in the center of the platelets, were slightly enlarged and eccentric in the position. Delayed intracellular Ca mobilization were also noted even in the buffer solution containing EGTA.From above mentioned results, intracellular Ca++ mobilization were abnormal and these low and delayed mobilization were thou -ght to be related with prominent abnormal morphology, especially abnormalities of DTS in the GPS platelets.

Abstract:
Spasticity is a common consequence of the upper motor neuron syndrome and usually associated with brain lesion, stroke, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, and etc. On the other hand, rigidity is a neuromuscular disorder often found in Parkinson’s disease patients. Both of spasticity and rigidity are characterized by abnormal hypertonic muscle behaviors that will cause discomfort and hinder daily activities. Worldwide, the estimated affected population of spasticity is around 12 million [1], and rigidity affects more than 10 million people [2]. Clinical evaluation of spasticity or rigidity involves personal assessment using qualitative scales, such as the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) or Modified Tardieu Scale (MTS) for spasticity and Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) for rigidity. However, this evaluation method heavily relies on the rater’s personal experience/interpretation and usually results in poor consistency and low reliability. The goal of this design was to develop a quantitative measurement device that can be used to assist clinical evaluation of spasticity or rigidity. This portable device, the Position, Velocity, and Resistance Meter (PVRM), can be strapped around a patient’s limb to measure angular position, angular velocity and muscle resistance of a given joint while the patient’s limb is passively stretched by the clinician. Acquiring this quantitative data from patients will not only allow clinicians to make more reliable assessments but also help researchers gain additional insights into the quantification of spasticity and rigidity.
