Background Patients with spontaneous and traumatic intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) are frequently transfused platelets to treat thrombocytopenia, platelet function defects, and reverse antiplatelet drugs. ABO-identical platelet transfusion has been suggested to lead to higher post-transfusion platelet increments compared to major-ABO incompatible transfusion. We hypothesized that patients who received ABO-identical transfusion would have higher post-transfusion platelet increments and superior neurologic outcomes. Abstract:
Introduction: Kidney transplantation is the most effective treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. However, the increasing number of ESRD patients and the limited availability of living and cadaveric donors has led to a growing waiting list for kidney transplantation. ABO-incompatible transplantation has emerged as an alternative for these patients in Nepal. Methods: This was an observational study of all the patients who underwent kidney transplantation from March 2017-Feb 2019. Data on demography of recipients and donor, blood group, human leukocyte antigen mismatch, induction

Antibody-mediated rejection is central to ABO incompatible transplantation as well as to xenotransplantation. The xenoantigen alpha-Gal has a highly analogous carbohydrate structure to the human blood group antigens, and both require memory B cell activation for antibody production. We hypothesize that B cells, reactive to the alpha-Gal xenoantigen and B blood group antigen, require the presence of fully activated T cells in order to survive and proliferate in vitro, contrary to the traditional theory that humoral response to carbohydrate antigens is a T cell-independent process. Abstract:
Introduction: Advancements and increase in access to healthcare have increased the life expectancy in India from 32 years in 1947 to almost 70 years currently. Due to robust vaccination and basic health programs, most of the communicable diseases are kept under control. The disease burden is now skewed towards non-communicable diseases. It is an established fact that body mass index (BMI) is a reliable predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) later in life. Early prediction can decrease the disease load and enable early preventative measures. A more novel approach of connecting it with blood
