Dauxion-Lavaysse est un personnage énigmatique et paradoxal, dont l’identité problématique se reflète jusque dans les rares notices biographiques qui lui sont consacrées. Sa réputation se fonde sur la publication à Paris en 1813 du Voyage aux îles de Trinidad et Tobago.
