Abstract:
The current work is intended to investigate the existence or not of future projects for incarcerated women. Starting from the assumption that the total institutions have as their main characteristic the de- subjectivation of the subject, we sought to analyze the talk of 154 convicts in the uniqueness. Motherhood and family were presented as the lead in the talk of the great majority of those that were interviewed. Religion appeared as an important category in regard to the appropriation that the convicts make of it to minimize the afflictions of the day to day in jail and to establish a friendly companionship with their fellow inmates a with the prison agents. The cult to the body appears as another category in the core of the incarceration experience, since it transforms into a resistant to the massive institutionalization. The future projects are built from the value given to family, motherhood in particular. The religion, particularly the evangelical, is appropriated as the construction of survival tactics inside the prison. The cult to the body appears as escape route to the serialization processes established in the feminine incarceration. As a conclusion we point out the specificity of the feminine incarceration: motherhood. The feminine incarceration hits the survival of the children who, in view of the huge precariousness in which they live, are destined to State shelters, or burocratically sent to blood relatives of the convict. We stress, in this study, the need for building public policies which become responsible for the well-being of the sons ands daughters of incarcerated women.

Willis, II Roderick C. "Exploring Hidden Student Perceptions About College-going Culture At House Bill 400 Schools In The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2011. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc103410/.

Full text
Abstract:
In accordance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Boards’ Closing the Gaps by 2015, this research study analyzed self-reported perceptions about college-going culture from students (n = 151) who attended four House Bill 400 schools serving Latino and African American communities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This study utilized exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with a maximum likelihood extraction technique to identify hidden perceptions (latent factors) that account for common variance among student perceptions about college-going culture. The study also tested the validity and inter-item reliability of the 15-item College-Going Culture Survey used in data collection. The parallel analysis, EFA, and Cronbach’s ? identified two latent factors of Verified College Potential (? = .70) and College Capital Awareness (? = .71) that, together, explained 40.1% of students’ perceptions. The two factors were non-significantly negatively correlated (r = -.495, p = .354). By utilizing the two latent constructs, a 10-item revised College-Going Culture Survey is recommended to improve the inter-item reliability coefficient from ? = .46 to ? = .77. Descriptive statistics revealed that Latino and African-American students affirmed aspects of the college-going culture at HB 400 schools. However, latent factors suggest the possibility that students who reportedly feel most encouraged to attend college (Verified College Potential) may tend to be least aware of the actual logistics of college such as admissions processes and financial aid (College Capital Awareness) and that, conversely, those with the most logistical knowledge may tend to feel least encouraged.

Abstract:
Problem - Decision makers shape the structure of the sales function, but it is unclear how they go about it and why. The rationale for making certain decisions need to be analyzed in order to understand why different decision makers apply different sales strategies. Topic - The Swedish prefabricated wooden house industry consists of many actors with no clear market leader. The sales force seems to mainly consists of external sales agents (manufacturers' representatives, also called reps), though some manufacturers also employ direct sales agents at the manufacturing company. Prefabricated wooden houses corresponded to 86% of all building permits requested during 2015. Purpose - This thesis aims to explore decision-makers' rationale behind the organization of manufacturers' sales forces in the Swedish prefabricated wooden house industry. Method - Semi-structures interviews with decision makers at manufacturing companies in the Swedish prefabricated wooden house industry have been conducted in order to fulfill the purpose of this study. The empirical findings are then analyzed based on theory that has been collected through partly inductive, partly deductive approaches. Main results - Decision makers use different arguments to justify their strategies. Many different rationale applied translates into no clear pattern besides the one that there seems to be no clear pattern. Arguments for a rationale decision are given without analytical proof for an assumption. Some interviewees are in essence for an integrated sales force, though might also work with reps.

Singh, Baljot. "A case study about the potential of battery storage in Culture house : Investigation on the economic viability of battery energy storage system with peak shaving & time-of-use application for culture house in Skellefteå." Abstract:
The energy demand is steadily increasing, and the electricity sector is undergoing a severe change in this decade. The primary drivers, such as the need to decarbonize the power industry and megatrends for more distributed and renewable systems, are resulting in revolutionary changes in our lifestyle and industry. The power grid cannot be easily or quickly be upgraded, as investment decisions, construction approvals, and payback time are the main factors to consider. Therefore, new technology, energy storage, tariff reform, and new business models are rapidly changing and challenging the conventional industry. In recent times, industrial peak shaving application has sparked an increased interest in battery energy storage system (BESS).  This work investigated BESS’s potential from peak shaving and Time-of-use (TOU) applications for a Culture-house in Skellefteå. Available literature provides the knowledge of various BESS applications, tariff systems, and how battery degradation functions. The predicted electrical load demand of the culture-house for 2019 is obtained from a consultant company Incoord. The linear optimization was implemented in MATLAB using optimproblem function to perform peak shaving and time-of-use application for the Culture-hose BESS. A cost-optimal charging/discharging strategy was derived through an optimization algorithm by analyzing the culture-house electrical demand and Skellefteå Kraft billing system. The decisional variable decides when to charge/discharge the battery for minimum battery degradation and electricity purchase charges from the grid.   Techno-economic viability is analyzed from BESS investment cost, peak-power tariff, battery lifespan, and batter aging perspective. Results indicate that the current BESS price and peak-power tariff of Skellefteå Kraft are not suitable for peak shaving. Electricity bill saving is too low to consider TOU application due to high battery degradation. However, combining peak shaving & TOU does generate more profit annually due to additional savings from the electricity bill. However, including TOU also leads to higher battery degradation, making it not currently a viable application. A future scenario suggests a decrease in investment cost, resulting in a shorter payback period.  The case study also analyses the potential in the second-life battery, where they are purchased at 80 % State of Health (SoH) for peak shaving application. Second-life batteries are assumed to last until 70 % or 60 % before End of Life (EOL). The benefit-cost ratio indicates that second-life batteries are an attractive investment if batteries can perform until 60% end of life, it would be an excellent investment from an economic and sustainability perspective. Future work suggests integrating more BESS applications into the model to make BESS an economically viable project.

Dale, Margaret Elizabeth. "House Legends and Perceptions of the Civil War: a Multiple Case Study on the Civil War Legends Told About Antebellum Homes in the New River Valley, Roanoke Valley, and Nearby Counties of Virginia." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/33056.

Full text
Abstract:
This study was designed to identify recurring themes in Civil War legends that are told in reference to antebellum homes in regions of Southwest Virginia. Existing literature indicates that collecting these legends is an important task because doing so helps others to better understand the community of legend-tellers. Previous research has also indicated that legends form a type of American mythology with reveals the way the legend-tellers perceive the specific subject they describe in the legends. Eight historic homes were visited in six southwestern counties of Virginia. Qualitative data were collected from a purposive sample of 12 participants who lived in these houses, previously lived in an historic house, or worked in an historic house museum. Each house was chosen as a site of inquiry because it has some significance for those interested in the Civil War or because it represents typical houses in similar southwestern Virginian communities during the Civil War era. In-depth interviews were the sole means of data collection and provided detailed and unlimited legends used to identify themes. The data were collected analyzed using a multiple case study approach. The findings from this study indicate that Civil War legends are being told in reference to antebellum homes in Southwest Virginia. Additionally, the tellers of the legends have common thoughts about the Civil War. The three major conclusions made in this study are (1) northern soldiers were aggressors during the Civil War; (2) southerners were strong during the Civil War; and (3) ghosts and ghostly activity serve as reminders of the Civil War. By continuing to share these legends, the tellers indicate their own perspectives of the Civil War as well as the perspectives of those who originate the legends. The legend-tellers also provide insight into the culture of today's southwestern Virginians as well as the Civil War era southwestern Virginians.

Abstract:
The last time Sweden did face a major housing shortage was during the 1960’s. As a solution to the housing shortage, The Million Homes Programme was initiated. The programme did manage to get rid of the housing shortage, but has received a lot of criticism concerning its architecture and environment since its completion. At the time for this study, Sweden is experiencing yet another housing crisis. In order to manage the housing shortage in a more successful way this time, it is important to not down-prioritise the exterior architecture. The exterior architecture plays an important role in creating both an aesthetical appealing and a social sustainable built environment. But the scarcity of housing makes it easy to sell the produced apartments, especially in the larger cities, which reduces the incentives for the developers to prioritise the aesthetics. There is an ongoing debate in Sweden concerning a dissatisfaction with the exterior architecture and there is an absence of research regarding the end-users preferences.  The identified problem that is addressed in this thesis concerns the down-prioritised aesthetics of the exterior architecture in multi-family residential areas in Sweden. The purpose with the study is to identify how housing developers can accomplish an exterior architectural design that is considered aesthetical attractive by its end-users. The study investigates preferences concerning exterior architecture, perceptions of the existing housing supply in Stockholm and how the housing developers can meet the identified preferences. A questionnaire was used as a method to identify peoples’ preferences and perceptions of four multifamily residential housing areas in Stockholm. Interviews were conducted with a housing developer to identify how housing developers can cost-effectively meet the preferences.  The majority of the housing supply, built in what is generally considered to represent a contemporary style, did not satisfy the identified preferences concerning exterior architecture. As the title of this report indicate, the questionnaire respondents considered contemporary areas in general to look more or less like identical boring boxes. It was only the supply built in traditional style that satisfied the identified preferences. That is, the studied housing supply does not meet the end-users demand fully satisfactory. However, the interviews revealed that housing developers can satisfy the identified preferences cost-effectively by accompanying some suggestions of improvements.

Abstract:
Thesis (MPA)--Stellenbosch University, 2013.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The pivotal role played by public participation in a social context is often undermined by change agents or administrators of government projects. The role of public participation is documented in Chapter 10 of the Constitution (South Africa, 1996). It states that “… people`s needs must be responded to, and the public must be encouraged to participate in policy making”. Besides the Constitution (South Africa, 1996) there are also other legislative frameworks that enshrine the right to public participation. Some of these provisions are included in the White Paper on Local Government (South Africa, 1998c), the White Paper on Transforming Public Service Delivery (South Africa, 1997b), the Integrated Development Plans, and others. It has to be acknowledged that public participation is the fundamental element for the success of development projects geared towards the social upliftment of poor communities. Poor communities, by omission or commission, are often excluded from direct participation in social projects. This study was prompted by the lack of effective public participation in the RDP housing project in the Elias Motswaledi Local Municipality, where the project was used as a case study. Qualitative research methods, well-founded theories and a literature study were used to inform the study. Forty-nine (49) respondents were interviewed. By collecting and interpreting relevant data, the study was able to assess the extent of public participation that had taken place. The study then proceeded to make recommendations as to how the situation could have been handled and to formulate public participation model that would be context relevant to the area. Unfortunately, the Elias Motswaledi Local Municipality housing project is now a thing of the past and cannot be revisited. Fortunately, however, similar projects will be able to learn valuable lessons from this study in the future. Ultimately, the research illustrated that a strategy of comprehensive public participation that includes all project beneficiaries has to be well planned and well managed to promote and ensure the successful implementation of the project.

Evans, Helen Kathryn. "'Making a tiny impact?' : listening to workers talk about their role in the transitions to adulthood of young people housed by the state." Thesis, University of Sussex, 2017. http://sro.sussex.ac.uk/id/eprint/68222/.

Full text
Abstract:
This is a small scale, qualitative research study, based on focus group and interview data from eight participants across two workplaces. The participants are workers involved in supporting those young people who are unable to live with their families during their transition to adulthood: they are drawn from two services within the same local authority, leaving care and a specialist adolescent support service which provides housing and support for homeless 16 and 17 year olds. A review of the literature in this field identifies a gap in the research, with few studies focussed on the voices of workers engaged in this specific area of work. I have used three analytical frameworks (thematic, narrative and voice-centred relational) to explore the data from different perspectives. Positioning the data in this three-dimensional framework has enabled me to produce an in-depth analysis, considering more than simply the content of participants' responses. My findings are presented as a reflexive account, exploring how the respondents talk about their work. The data suggests that the talk falls into two broad areas: workers positioning themselves within a framework of organisation(s) and workers positioning themselves in relation to individual young people. A picture emerges from the data of two quite different workplaces. The relative structure and clarity of the leaving care personal adviser's job role appears to unite this group of workers around a more coherent script for talking about the work they do. In contrast, the workers from the specialist adolescent service openly acknowledge that there are differences of approach within their organisation, and appear to lack a shared way of articulating their role. The way in which the workers position themselves within the organisation also differs between the two groups: the leaving care workers talk passionately about the division between ‘us' (workers) and ‘them' (management). The specialist adolescent workers barely mention their managers, and there is little talk of a group identity (an ‘us'). These workers talk about the relationship they develop with individual young people as an intervention in itself. This relationship is conceptualised in various ways, with the clearest construct being parent-child. There appears to be a difference between the two organisations in the way in which this parent role is enacted: leaving care workers talk of an organisational corporate parenting responsibility, whilst workers from the specialist adolescent service talk more freely of thinking and acting as a good parent. In relation to their direct 1:1 work, the majority of participants describe using conversation to facilitate the development of problem solving skills, encouraging reflective thinking through the process of co-creating narrative. These emotional and cognitive skills are talked about as more valuable than specific practical independent living skills. The data suggests that emotional labour is acknowledged and managed very differently in these two workplaces. The leaving care group found it difficult to talk about the emotional aspects of their role, and this plays out in different ways in the interviews. Some participants describe struggling to manage the emotional impact of their work, otherwise struggle to articulate the emotional content of the work. As a group, they retreat from talk of emotional involvement with young people, distancing themselves by stating that it is beyond what is possible within their role. In contrast, the workers from the specialist adolescent service talk more comfortably about their emotional responses to the work: they appear to feel safer using themselves in their work, and seem better able to contain this emotional labour within the overall professional boundaries of their role. Workers talk of ‘making a tiny impact' - acknowledging the potential for their support to make a positive difference in young people's lives, whilst also highlighting the limitations of their role.

On the feeling of the ongoing disputes of pre-sold house transaction we once suffered from it. We found that the main reasons are from the different attributes between the pre-sold house and existing house transaction, no real house for show, the consumer lack of knowledge of law, constructing and the experiences of house transaction, the builders are good at making fake prosperous transaction in order to sell all the house out, try their best to emphasize the advantages of build case. It is common the builders use the build after moving permit which design violates the law, and avoid talking this point when sale. However, the constructing belongs to the highly professional field. When the builders use their know-how with the articles for standard contracts which is be limited in advance. There will be many malpractices from it. Apart from the abuse of terminology, the conceal of the internal construction information and the misleading of words which cause the vulnerable consumers do not understand how to advocate their clause even though they truly want to fight for themselves and finally do not know their rights are deprived at all. The other hand, the consumers do not know the construction terminology and unable to resist just like having blurred vision. It’s lack of adequate and accurate information, so it’s truly a defect decision. After completing the construction, it often happened the completed construction is not the same as the advertisement then causing many quarrels and disputes. It results from the giving and the expecting differences between both sides and leading disputes. This article is based on the theory opinion and the practical legal precedent of the Supreme Court. Using the past experiences of pre-sold house transaction to examine the norm of the Consumer Protection Law, whether it is enough to solve the practical disputes of pre-sold house, elaborating progressively with three steps which from the untrue and misleading advertisement, articles for standard contracts to the liability for warranty and corresponding to the practical pre-sold house transaction mode, exploring the disputes and whether the legal precedent of court can execute the function of Judicial review or not, giving the accurate law and recognition. Hoping by this article, we can clear the related disputes, furthermore the Consumer Protection Law can truly practice on the practical pre-sold house transaction and bring it to the best. The system of judicial control could be more perfect. To avoid and prevent repeating the same mistakes. To guarantee the rights of consumers and achieve the justice of contracts.

ABSTRACT IC design houses give priority to develop and design the new product. They have to outsource their products to different subcontractors for manufacturing, because they don’t have their own physical factories. Therefore, IC design house and their subcontractors are closely linked, and the management of subcontractor is very important. The Delphi Hierarchy Process (DHP) is used in this study, moreover, the software “Expert Choice” are used to get a different stimulation results. First, ask some experts who work in the IC related industries to provide their opinions, what evaluation items they are concerned, and we had showed that deliver, quality, and service are the most important factors. We use these factors to build a hierarchy framework for AHP analysis. From the comparison result of AHP, IC design house can choose the excellent testing houses for their management reference.

Since 2008, ‘Foundation of Historic City Conservation and Regeneration’ promotion of "Old House, New Life", let a load of entrepreneurs choose space like old buildings to do business. Old buildings have sprung up in the past few of years, and through these Entrepreneurs business behavior in old buildings, the public has begun to face up to whether the surrounding idle space has the potential to reproduce and reproduce the value. Among them, some of these old buildings are cultural assets. Operating an old house with cultural assets ( Hereinafter referred to as “Cultural Heritage”) , it will be more difficult than the average old house. Because Cultural Heritage regulated by the ‘Cultural Assets Preservation Act’. Its cultural asset status also carries the public goal of preservation of cultural assets. To realize how do enterprises or non-profits organizations manage cultural assets in the view of social marketing, the researcher uses the 4Ps theory of social marketing from Kolter et al. (2005) and take four cases from enterprises or non-profits organizations managing cultural assets, including ‘Foundation of Historic City Conservation and Regeneration,’ ‘GaoQing Development Ltd. and Foundation of Tainan enterprise artistic culture of Tainan enterprise,’ ‘Fantasy Story,’ and ‘SEDAI GROUP.’ The researcher uses observation study, interview study and case study to realize the courses of old house reusing, brand name representing and social marketing from four cases. Moreover, the researcher takes the collecting and organizing data to compare the effects of old house reusing. Research Findings, operation of the field of reuse of old buildings and cultural assets, ‘Foundation of Historic City Conservation and Regeneration’ and ‘Fantasy Story’ solve current social problems from the perspective of social needs. ‘GaoQing Development Ltd. and Foundation of Tainan enterprise artistic culture of Tainan enterprise’ and ‘SEDAI GROUP’ promote the management of innovative old buildings and cultural assets in the perspective of cultural preservation. Research Findings, in the management of old buildings and cultural assets reuse, operators are innovating in order to respond to changes in the consumer market. The social concept of the operator will make the public more aware of the value of the field of reuse of old buildings and cultural assets than the brand story. Therefore, the researcher proposes that "culture" is the foundation for operating old buildings and cultural assets. Operators must follow the real history when operating old buildings and cultural assets, and introduce appropriate business methods in order to make the old building and cultural assets reuse fields different from the general business areas. Therefore, how the cognition and practice of social preservation of cultural preservation do not conflict with commercial behavior or activities is a problem that should be pondered by the operators of old buildings and cultural assets.

This thesis intend to unfold the images(意象) of Chinese traditional classical garden poems in Six Dynasties. First, the researches of Six Dynasties literature works were always related to some kind of places, for example, the famous pastoral or landscape poems were always written by poet. But beside the two kinds of subjects, few people notice the particular place: Chinese traditional classical gardens, and the writings about the garden. Secondly, the Chinese traditional classical gardens has been established in Six Dynasties, they are the betwixotland of humanly architecture and natural landscape. So all the garden writings in Six Dynasties are described a place between architectural buildings and natural scenery, as the important images. The Poetics of Space (La Poétique de l'Espace ) by Gaston Bachelard gives us a spatial perception of different viewpoint to interpret the literary text. Through his viewpoint, we found the most important traditional classical garden image is the archetype about "Home and House", it derives the poetic images just like: using a door or window as the frame of scenery; climbing the higher pavilions(樓閣) to get the universal view or the intimate objects, Guzhengs(琴) and books(書) that can open an aesthetic space, etc. Maybe Bachelard inspired us to find out the“ Chinese Traditional Garden Writing Poetics” of the tradition China literature. Abstract In view of the case of the sale of the pre-owned house, the two parties may have disputes after the completion of the transaction because of problems in the housing conditions, but they are unable to reach a consensus. Taiwan people often use litigation as a way to resolve disputes, but the litigation will last at least one or two years long, even more than five years. It will also cost the national judicial resources. Arbitration, which is often used in one of the commercial dispute resolution methods, is a way to resolve this dispute. However, arbitration is still not a commonly used method in the disputes of the Taiwanese people in the dispute of pre-owned house.

As this research is a cross-sectional study, which aims to older adults above 65 years old in this Chang Gung Health and Culture Village, we collect characteristics of elderly demography, body health, oral health, chewing ability and life quality through questionnaire. A total of 166 research targets have been completed. In addition, we examine the relativity of demographic variations, body health, oral health, chewing ability and quality of life with one-way ANOVA, Independent T test, Pearson correlation coefficient, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis test. Also, we analyze chewing ability is the mediator of life quality through Multiple linear regression, and eventually predict the dangerous risks that impact life quality. According to what we find out in the research results in this Health and Culture Village, the age, economic condition, instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), tooth implantation, fixed and removable dentures, the condition and adaptability of dentures, the shake and fall of denture, the number of remaining tooth, the number of loose teeth and removable dentures are all related to chewing ability, which indicates apparent connection with their life quality (p=0.000, r=-0.668). Also, chewing ability is the mediator of the number of loose teeth, removable and fixed dentures in terms of life quality. What’s more, the research on risky factors we predict which influence their quality of life shows that those who suffer from periodontal disease and those who have poor chewing ability will make their quality of life lower.Consequently, chewing ability especially is the most important factor that impacts their quality of life. Through the research results, we find out chewing ability is the main risky factor that influence quality of life. Hence, with regard to older adults’ chewing ability, how the medical team in this Health and Culture Village evaluates, traces and enhances their chewing ability is extremely significant. We suggest to take older adults’ chewing ability into regular evaluation so that they can discover the change of chewing ability as early as possible and provide proper treatment or referral, which can recover or enhance elders’ chewing functions and militate degradation of their life quality

Abstract:
Dwelling is perhaps the primordial invention of human existence in response to Nature’s unpredictability and adversity. Culture Studies have been responsible for a series of intersections in the research of certain issues such as “dwelling” which take on a transdisciplinary approach. This dissertation aims to think about what it means to live in Liquid Modernity, a concept introduced by the Polish sociologist, Zygmunt Bauman. This metaphor also serves as a conceptual framework for the analysis of the social, cultural and spatial changes reflected in dwellings since the beginning of Modernity, highlighted by a shift from a paradigm of stability to a paradigm of mobility. As the boundaries between public/private and interior/exterior are smoothing, the house is becoming an increasingly fluid, permeable and porous space. More than on the interior, this work seeks to reflect on the interiority of the dwelling. At first, concepts that were crucial during the research process are clarified and further analysed. In a second phase, these concepts are discussed based on three single-family houses built in exposed concrete. Concrete — ‘liquid stone’ — is particularly important in this work because it asserts itself as a ubiquitous medium of construction that physically and metaphysically reflects some issues inherent to (Liquid) Modernity.
