Abstract:
AbstractWe construct graph selectors for compact exact Lagrangians in the cotangent bundle of an orientable, closed manifold. The construction combines Lagrangian spectral invariants, developed by Oh, and results, by Abouzaid, about the Fukaya category of a cotangent bundle. We also introduce the notion of Lipschitz-exact Lagrangians and prove that these admit an appropriate generalisation of graph selector. We then, following Bernard–Oliveira dos Santos, use these results to give a new characterisation of the Aubry and Mañé sets of a Tonelli Hamiltonian and to generalise a result of Arnaud on Lagrangians invariant under the flow of such Hamiltonians.

Abstract:
The essay examines the texts of the two women writers - Leila Abouzeid (from Morocco) and Nawal El Saadawi (from Egypt) - as offering two female perspectives within what is commonly referred to as "feminine" writing in the Arab Muslim world. My main interest is to explore the various discursive articulations of female identity that are challenged or foregrounded as a positive model. The essay points to the serious pitfalls of some feminist narratives in Arab-Muslim societies by dealing with a related problem: the author's setting up of convenient conceptual dichotomies, which account for the female experience, that reduce male-female relationships in the given social context to a fundamentally antagonistic one. Abouzeid's novel will be a case study of a more positive but also realistic and complex perspective on female experience ...

Abstract:
Cabbage and collard greens were inflicted with a previously undescribed virus-like disease during the fall 2000. Symptoms on leaves were yellow spots, vein clearing, mosaic, curling, and puckering. Symptomatic plants were widespread in Brooks, Colquitt, Grady, and Pierce counties in Georgia. Disease incidence ranged from 10 to 20% in the majority of the fields surveyed but some fields had 100% incidence. Fields were heavily infested by Bemisia argentifolii and the symptoms were suggestive of a whitefly-transmitted geminivirus infection. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based diagnostic test for geminivirus was conducted. Total DNA was extracted from symptomatic cabbage and collard green plants collected from commercial fields. The two primers, 5'-GCCCACATYGTCTTYCCNGT-3' and 5'- GGCTTYCTRTACATRGG-3' (2,3), are “universal” for genus Begomovirus of family Geminiviridae. The primer pair could amplify a part of the replicase-associated protein and coat protein and the complete common region of DNA-A. The PCR gave a DNA band of expected size (1.1 kb) from both symptomatic cabbage and collard green samples, whereas no such product was obtained from healthy samples, suggesting that the causal agent could be a geminivirus. To establish the identity of the virus, the 1.1 kb PCR product was cloned into pGEM-T Easy (Promega) and sequenced. GenBank search showed that the geminivirus isolated in Georgia was most closely related (98% sequence identity) to Cabbage leaf curl virus (accession number U65529) reported from Florida (1). The virus was mechanically transmitted to healthy cabbage and collard green plants under experimental conditions. To our knowledge, this is the first report of Cabbage leaf curl virus from Georgia. Full text
Abstract:
Whitefly-transmitted geminiviruses are a major constraint on tomato production in Mexico (3). In the Yucatan State, these viruses can cause serious losses in late season plantings. As part of an effort to characterize these viruses, leaf samples from four tomato plants showing symptoms of geminivirus infection, such as stunted growth and leaf mottling and deformation, were collected from a single field in the Yucatan State in February, 1996. Geminivirus nucleic acids were detected in leaf samples from all four plants by squash blot hybridization analysis with a general DNA probe for Western Hemisphere whitefly-transmitted geminiviruses (2). Nicotiana benthamiana plants inoculated with sap prepared with leaf tissue from one plant developed stunted growth and leaf mottling and deformation. When graft-transmitted from N. benthamiana to tomato, the geminivirus(es) induced leaf mottling and deformation, which were similar to symptoms in the field-collected tomato plants. The presence of geminivirus DNA in the sap- and graft-inoculated plants was confirmed with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and degenerate primers for the DNA-A (PAL1v1978 and PAR1c496) or DNA-B (PBL1v2040 and PCRc1) components of whitefly-transmitted geminiviruses (4). Using PCR and these degenerate primers, approximately 1.1-kb DNA-A and approximately 0.6-kb DNA-B fragments were amplified from DNA extracts prepared from leaves of each of the four Yucatan tomato plants. No DNA fragments were amplified from these extracts with primers for pepper huasteco geminivirus (pAL1c2329 and pAL1v1471, or pBR1c840 and pBL1v1830). To determine the identity of the geminivirus(es) infecting these tomato plants, the PCR-amplified DNA-A and DNA-B fragments from one of the samples were cloned and sequenced. Comparisons made with these sequences revealed two distinct types of DNA-A and DNA-B clones, indicating a mixed infection of at least two bipartite geminiviruses. DNA-A and DNA-B sequences of one set of clones were >97% identical to sequences of tomato mottle geminivirus (ToMoV) from Florida (1). The presence of ToMoV in all four tomato leaf samples was demonstrated by the PCR-mediated amplification of a 0.9-kb DNA-A fragment with ToMoV-specific primers (pAL1v2295 and pAR1c580). The identity of this 0.9-kb DNA fragment was further confirmed based upon its hybridization with a full-length clone of ToMoV DNA-A under high stringency conditions (2). A data base search made with the sequence of the other type of DNA-A clone revealed sequence identities of <70% with various bipartite geminiviruses (e.g., identities of 70% with tomato mottle, 69% with Sida golden mosaic, 67% with bean dwarf mosaic, and 66% with taino tomato mottle and with potato yellow mosaic), which confirmed that a second geminivirus was present in a mixed infection with ToMoV in this tomato leaf sample. To confirm the bipartite nature of this geminivirus, a DNA-B fragment that contained the common region (CR) sequence was amplified from the same sample with PCR and primers PBL1v2040 and PBR1c970 (a degenerate primer that anneals within the BV1 open reading frame; F. M. Zerbini and R. L. Gil-bertson, unpublished data), cloned, and sequenced. The CR sequence of this DNA-B fragment was 96% identical to that of the DNA-A fragment, which establishes the presence of another bipartite geminivirus in this sample. This is the first report of ToMoV in Mexico. These results also suggest that at least two bipartite geminiviruses may infect tomatoes in the Yucatan Peninsula. References: (1) A. M. Abouzid et al. J. Abstract:
This article challenges the historical directionality of women’s knowledge and experience from the global north to the global south. It situates Moroccan feminist literature by Leila Abouzeid and Malika Oufkir within a transnational comparative approach to argue that reversing such flows – northward instead of southward – enables defamiliarising feminist theory as we know it to refamiliarise it for feminist praxis. Drawing on Obioma Nnaemeka’s African feminist philosophy, the article engages in a literary analysis to articulate a theory of ‘chameleon feminism’ for illuminating how global south women’s stories connect rooms, arenas and fields for a praxis of resilience against authoritarianism.

ACTA MEDICA IRANICA, July 15, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.18502/acta.v58i2.3714.

Abstract:
The Oxygenation Index (OI= [MAP×FiO2]/PaO2×100), an invasive diagnostic criterion, is routinely used as a marker of severity of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). In order to determine of OI, arterial blood gas (ABG) through an invasive procedure is indispensably used to obtain PaO2. The Oxygenation saturation Index (OSI= [MAP×FiO2]/ SPO2 ×100), as an alternative method, can be implemented using pulse oximetry to assess SpO2. For this epidemiologic-analytic study, 74 intubated patients admitted in a pediatric intensive care unit of Abouzar hospital of Ahvaz during the first 3-day admission were selected equally in pulmonary and non-pulmonary groups within a six months period, from January 1, 2019, to May 31, 2019. Two indexes of OI and OSI in both patients were evaluated, and eventually, the results were analyzed by linear regression using Spss. A comparison of the two OI and OSI indexes showed a meaningful relationship was found (P<0.001), which has a higher correlation coefficient of 0.726 in patients with the pulmonary disease than non-pulmonary patients with 0.394. The present study demonstrates that the index of oxygen saturation (OSI) with a sensitivity of 78% and specificity of 83% in the patients without acute pulmonary distress syndrome is a suitable indicator instead of the invasive index of OI. Also, in patients with pulmonary disease that meet the medium range of Berlin criteria, with a sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 76%, the OSI index can be used to predict the status of patients.
