This thesis primarily concerns kinematic dynamo action by the 1:1:1 ABC flow, in the highly conducting limit of large magnetic Reynolds number Rm. The flow possesses 24 symmetries, with a symmetry group isomorphic to the group O24 of orientation-preserving transformations of a cube. These symmetries are exploited to break up the linear eigenvalue problem into five distinct symmetry classes, which we label I-V. The thesis discusses how to reduce the scale of the numerical problem to a subset of Fourier modes for a magnetic field in each class, which then may be solved independently to obtain di

Abstract:
In recent years, adulteration of black cohosh roots and rhizomes (Actaea racemosa, Ranunculaceae) has become more apparent. Adulteration predominantly occurs with Chinese species of Actaea such as A. heracleifolia, A. dahurica, and A. cimicifuga (all known by the common name Chinese cimicifuga and by the Chinese name of sheng ma). Additionally, the Chinese cimicifuga (sheng ma) market is commonly adulterated with Serratula chinensis (guang dong sheng ma [Asteraceae]). Adulteration has also been reported with North American Actaea species growing in the same area as black cohosh, such as A. pac

In this work multispectral reflectance images are used in conjunction with a neural network classifier for the purpose of detecting and classifying weeds under real field conditions. Multispectral reflectance images which contained different combinations of weeds and crops were taken under actual field conditions. This multispectral reflectance information was used to develop algorithms that could segment the plants from the background as well as classify them into weeds or crops. In order to segment the plants from the background the multispectrial reflectance of plants and background were st

Abstract:
A reliable satellite-based black-sky albedo time series is a crucial part of detecting changes in the climate. This thesis studies the solutions to several uncertainties impairing the quality of the black-sky albedo time series. These solutions include creating a long dynamic aerosol optical depth time series for enhancing the removal of atmospheric effects, a method to fill missing data to improve spatial and temporal coverage, and creating a function to correctly model the diurnal variation of melting snow albedo. Mathematical methods are the center pieces of the solutions found in this thes

Review question / Objective: Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) has been employed in arthroscopic shoulder surgery (ASS) as an alternative novel interfacial plane block. However, its analgesic efficacy is still controversial. Whether ESPB could improve analgesic efficacy in ASS is what the current meta-analysis seeks to find out. Information sources: We searched different databases including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from inception to November 29, 2022, using medical subject headings (MeSH) and free-text terms without language restrictions. Abstract:
This report contains a state of the art review of current methods for evaluating the effects of close in blasting on pipelines. The report includes a comparison of current methods for determining the stress resulting from blasting with available experimental results. It also covers the subject of block movement as a result of delayed gas pressure, methods to determine the likelihood of ground movement and procedures for evaluating if movement has occurred. More accurate methods to determine blasting stresses are investigated. A procedure to be followed to evaluate the effects of blasting is pr

Abstract:
Previous work identified cases where relatively minor changes in air manifold pressure led to engine detonation. This occurred under lean combustion conditions where detonation is believed to be unlikely. This indicates that it is as equally important to have stable engine control functions as it is to have the proper air/fuel setpoint. The objective of this work is to identify alternatives to conventional control techniques that can be employed on reciprocating engines used in the natural gas transpiration industry to enhance air/fuel control stability which in turn should improve combustion

The objective of this project is to provide information about a problem material found in gas pipelines called "black powder". It is a mixture or a chemical compound of iron sulfides, iron oxides, dirt, sand, salts, chlorides, water, glycols, hydrocarbons and compressor oils, mill scale, or other materials. The most common constituents, iron compounds of sulfur or oxygen, are corrosion products. In addition to chemical formation, black powder can be formed by microbes normally found in gas pipelines. This material causes machinery, measurement, and pipeline maintenance problems. This research

In 2018 key concerns included shrinking civic space and the impact of this on democracy. Developments between the two periods, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter and decolonisation movements, have only increased emphasis on commitments made as part of the Grand Bargain to localise and decolonise. This invariably means working more frequently with local partners and civil society organisations in the delivery of international aid to advance Open Society and Human Rights agendas.
