RésuméDe nombreux points de comparaison sont possibles entre la philosophie de Nishida Kitarō (1870-1945) et la philosophie de la religion de Karl Rahner (1904-1984), notamment concernant la temporalité, thème à propos duquel ces deux auteurs réfléchirent radicalement. En réexaminant la notion rahnérienne d’avenir absolu à la lumière de la notion nishidienne de présent absolu, il est possible d’apporter une solution au problème suivant : rejoint-on Dieu (Rahner) ou l’absolu (Nishida) dans un avenir situé au-delà de la temporalité ou bien dans l’instant présent, compris comme le lieu même du jaillissement de la temporalité ? Dans la mesure où elle s’appuie sur une philosophie du néant absolu, la pensée de Nishida permet de dégager la philosophie de la religion de Rahner des cloisons de l’onto-théo-téléologie qui l’enserrent et, la plaçant ainsi sur un horizon plus vaste, la rend apte à exprimer, d’une manière qu’on espère nouvelle, les nombreuses potentialités qu’elle recèle encore. En retour, une lecture de la temporalité nishidienne à travers le regard de Rahner permet de l’approfondir et de faire ressortir des éléments inédits.

RÉSUMÉ Le néant absolu (zettai mu) a suscité divers types de discours dans la philosophie japonaise contemporaine, notamment celui de la relationalité, dont traitent principalement NISHIDA Kitarô (1870-1945) et WATSUJI Tetsurô (1889-1960). Nishida met en lumière le lien intrinsèque entre le néant absolu et la relationalité en montrant que l’individuel (kobutsu) est tel uniquement par le fait de se confronter à un autre individuel, et que cette confrontation est un processus de néantisation absolue par lequel l’individuel renvoie constamment à l’autre, ce qui permet en retour une auto-affirmation absolue. Le néant absolu est également le fondement de la structure relationnelle de Watsuji, qui fait l’originalité de son éthique. L’humain (ningen), à la fois individuel et social, comporte une négation par laquelle il nie l’ensemble de l’humanité, se constituant ainsi comme individu et comme société. Tant la philosophie de Nishida que celle de Watsuji convergent vers le néant absolu et s’articulent autour de lui.

Cette étude met en rapport quelques notions fondamentales de la pensée indienne avec la phénoménologie de la vie. En avouant d’emblée les limites d’une telle démarche, l’auteur offre une ouverture sur la phénoménologie, notamment dans le cadre de la dimension non dualiste de la pensée indienne. Il s’attache à expliciter les recoupements entre l’affirmation henryenne de la réciprocité interne entre la Vie et les vivants et le fait que, pour la pensée indienne, toutes les réalités spirituelles et matérielles non seulement procèdent d’un Absolu, mais sont habitées par lui. L’auteur se demande notamment comment expliquer, dans une telle approche, la différence entre la Vie et les vivants. Cette contribution met donc en avant la pertinence et les enjeux d’une approche henryenne pour la compréhension des dimensions théologique, anthropologique, cosmologique et, en particulier, christique de la culture philosophique indienne.

RésuméCet article étudie lafaçon dont Hegel élabore sa conception des rapports entre la pensée et la nature dans la Phénoménologie de l'esprit. L'examen montre que 1) Hegel étend le concept de raison pour y inclure i'indépendance de la nature à l'endroit de la pensée rationnelle, 2) cette indépendance se révèle dans le donné contingent de l'empiricité, 3) le concept étendu de raison détermine et justifie les présuppositions de la logique hégélienne, et 4) ce même concept limite le rôle de la logique dans la philosophie hégélienne prise comme un tout, de telle manière que la philosophie y dépend de la science empirique en quelque chose d'essentiel pour sa connaissance de la vérité. En étayant ces thèses, l'article analyse la procédure de preuve utilisée par Hegel, expose le rôle qu'y joue la contradiction, et discute les explications phénoménologiques qu'il propose de la perception, de l'entendement, du stoïcisme, de l'idéalisme, de la biologie, du monde moral kantien, de la religion révélée, et du savoir absolu.

Le problème du système comme mode de construction de la pensée philosophique a trouvé dans la période de l’Idéalisme allemand l’un de ses points culminants dans l’histoire de la philosophie. Loin de se limiter à une question extrinsèque portant sur le choix d’une forme d’exposition qui resterait relativement indifférente au contenu de la doctrine elle-même, l’adoption ou le rejet de tel ou tel type de systématicité implique des décisions conceptuelles importantes touchant à des problèmes philosophiques qui sont au coeur des discussions de l’époque. C’est notamment la question de la complétude du système et de son rapport à une éventuelle extériorité qui sont mis en jeu dans ces discussions. Parmi les acteurs de cette controverse, Jacobi, Fichte et Hegel se sont ainsi affrontés, directement ou indirectement, sur la question spécifique du rapport entre système et vie, d’une part, entre système et absolu, d’autre part. Alors que Jacobi reproche à Fichte d’absorber la vie dans son système mortifiant et nihiliste et que Hegel dénonce au contraire dans la Doctrine de la science l’incomplétude d’un système incapable de combler l’écart entre savoir et vie, pour Fichte, l’unité différenciée de la vie et du système, posés comme points de vue de la réflexivité philosophique, rend possible un système qui, quoique accompli en lui-même, n’abolit pas son extériorité constitutive et son ouverture à la vie.

Résumé La traduction est un moyen de cerner la vérité et le vrai sens des textes. Cet article tente de définir la règle de conduite traductosophique d’Emmanuel Levinas à partir d’une analyse de ses Nouvelles lectures talmudiques (NLT). Bien que sa pensée ne fût pas explicite sur ce point, Levinas a laissé apercevoir une approche raisonnée de la médiation linguistique qui redéfinit en termes de philosophie morale la responsabilité du traducteur. Sa vision éthique de son rôle comme médiateur textuel nous oblige de revisiter plusieurs concepts clés dont celui d’interprète et d’exégète. Il s’agit de mettre en relief une certaine vision de la responsabilité intertextuelle, réflexive et procédurale du traducteur-exégète face aux sources, au public et à l’autre absolu. Les racines de la pensée de Levinas sur la responsabilité se trouvent à un carrefour où se rencontrent l’autre absolu et autrui. Le médiateur textuel dégage ainsi du texte le vrai sens suivant un sens aigu de responsabilité morale. Cette lecture traductosophique des NLT nous fait découvrir un modèle généralisable chez celui qui est conscient du principe de l’altérité en tant que régulateur du processus et des procédés de médiation linguistique si bien que le rôle du traducteur-exégète en est valorisé.

Il est difficile de trouver un linguiste occidental qui ait joué un rôle aussi important que Saussure dans la formation du cadre conceptuel de Jakobson. L’impact de Saussure sur les linguistes russes dans les années 20 est bien documenté dans l'exposé que fit M. N. Peterson sur la doctrine saussurienne dans la revue Pečat' i Revoljucija en 1923, dans les remarques enthousiastes de R. Šor dans le Jafetičeskij sbornik de N. Marr (1927), et, en particulier, dans le livre de V.N. Vološinov (M. Bakhtine) Le marxisme et la philosophie du langage (1929). Celui-ci écrit : «On peut affirmer que la majorité des penseurs russes dans le domaine de la linguistique sont sous l'influence déterminante des observations saussuriennes sur les signes et leur rôle dans la communication humaine».
Pour Jakobson, la contribution linguistique de Saussure a été une source durable d'inspiration, mais aussi une cible continuelle pour ses attaques virulentes et souvent dévastatrices. Tout au long de sa carrière scientifique, Jakobson a mis en question l 'insistance de Saussure à séparer la synchronie et la diachronie, son accent mis sur l'arbitraire du signe verbal, son interprétation des procédures syntagmatiques et paradigmatiques et, tout particulièrement, sa conception du phonème. Dans une certaine mesure, la critique de Jakobson reflète ses années d'études dans le milieu des Néo-grammairiens moscovites conservateurs, qui avaient de la méfiance envers les courants occidentaux modernes.
Jakobson continua de combattre Saussure jusqu'aux dernières années de sa vie, comme en témoigne le «Retrospect» du 6ème volume de ses Selected Writings, achevé par Jakobson en février 1982. Si nous nous tournons vers les critiques persistantes que Jakobson adresse aux principes fondamentaux de Saussure, on peut se demander s'il reste quelque chose qui n ' ait pas été invalidé durant toutes ces années d'attaques répétées. Pourtant, il serait erroné de considérer les critiques que fait Jakobson à la doctrine saussurienne comme un rejet absolu. Il semble plus approprié d'envisager le dialogue unilatéral de Jakobson avec Saussure comme une contribution complémentaire au développement de la linguistique du XXème siècle.

Zusammenfassung Für eine Verhältnisbestimmung von Religion und Philosophie unterzieht der protestantische Theologe Martin Wendte Hegels philosophisches System einer theologischen sowie einer philosophisch-immanenten Kritik. Das Beweisziel dieser Arbeit besteht im Nachweis, dass auch Wendtes philosophische Kritik nur haltbar unter offenbarungstheologischen Voraussetzungen, also gar keine immanente Hegel-Kritik ist. Der Grund dafür liegt in der Unwiderlegbarkeit Hegels, der bloß den notwendig absoluten Anspruch der Disziplin Philosophie ausdrückt; ein absoluter Anspruch, dem der der Theologie in nichts nachsteht.

Il ne s'agit pas d'une coexistence de sujets, mais de la creation d'une relation inter-subjective entre des etres. La rencontre et le le dialogue sont les moteurs d'une telle relation ; ils permettent de briser la coquille egocentrique ou le moi s'enferme et devient pour lui-meme un objet. Le moi des lors s'engage sur le chemin de l'etre. Le moi brise a besoin d'un toi pour etre vraiment, au sens marcelien de ce terme, c'est-a-dire un co-esse. L'amour et la fidelite alimentent la relation inter-subjective dans la presence et l'entiere disponibilite. Nous etudions dans cette these le pouvoir absolu de zhu yuanzhang, l'empereur fondateur de la dynastie des ming, ayant regne trente ans, de 1368 a 1398. Nous revenons tout d'abord aux principes premiers, et considerons le pouvoir dans le cadre de la philosophie politique : ses fondements, la place importante de la legitimite et du groupe de legitimation, et les moyens utilises pour obtenir l'obeissance. Nous voyons aussi les principales caracteristiques des pouvoirs absolus, et leurs limites. Nous analysons ainsi le pouvoir absolu cree par les deux principales philosophies politiques chinoises, le confucianisme et le legisme. Ces deux doctrines visent au meme but, la societe ordonnee, mais les pouvoirs mis en place pour cela different fortement. Nous utilisons ensuite ce cadre theorique pour etudier le pouvoir absolu de zhu yuanzhang, d'abord au cours de la prise du pouvoir, puis pendant son regne. De 1355 a 1368, celui-ci a en effet realise une ascension exceptionnelle, passant du stade de paysan, puis moine mendiant, a celui de chef rebelle, puis d'empereur. Nous etudions l'organisation de son pouvoir au cours de cette conquete, montrons qu'il avait bien clarifie ses buts et sonorganisation, et qu'il accordait une grande importance au soutien du peuple, ce qui a sans doute grandement contribue a sa victoire finale. L'etude du pouvoir imperial de zhu yuanzhang revele aussi une grande organisation par la mise en place d'institutions, de codes et de decrets, l'adoption de buts clairs, et la recherche constante de la legitimite. Le confucianisme etait utilise comme ideologie officielle et dans la recherche du soutien du peuple, tandis que le legisme inspirait plutot les methodes violentes utililisees pour obtenir l'obeissance, et pour controler les fonctionnaires. Le pouvoir absolu de zhu yuanzhang est aussi renomme pour son caractere ultra-despotique : il y eut plusieurs purges de fonctionnaires et des massacres de factions entieres parmi les anciens compagnons d'armes de l'empereur. Les massacres et les mises a mort cruelles etaient tous justifies, aux yeux de zhu yuanzhang, par le bien du peuple. Dans l'analyse de ce despotisme, nous pretons alors attention a ses limites, provenant surtout de la volonte de l'empereur d'epargner le peuple, pour conserver son soutien.

Il s’est agi, à travers l’analyse des concepts de genèse et de construction, de cerner le sens et l’intention de la démarche philosophique de Fichte. Construire, c’est montrer génétiquement, c’est-à-dire indiquer dans l’esprit les actes nécessaires de la raison par lesquels s’engendre un terme. Il y a deux termes, fondamentalement, à construire. Si la construction suit un mouvement « descendant », le terme à construire est déduit, c’est la conscience empirique ; si la construction suit un mouvement « ascendant », le terme à construire, qui est non déductible, non génétisable, c’est l’absolu. Nous avons voulu montrer que le point de départ de la déduction (de la construction descendante) – le moi absolu –, n’est pas identique au point d’arrivée de la construction ascendante – l’absolu. Car c’est cette distinction entre moi absolu et absolu, affirmée dans la XIIIème conférence de la WL 1804/II comme étant à l’oeuvre depuis la Grundlage de 1794, qui nous est apparue seule capable, une fois remise au centre du système de Fichte, de résoudre deux problèmes majeurs posés par sa philosophie : 1) comment l’auto-position du moi (identique au moi absolu) peut-elle conditionner les actes (aboutissant à poser le monde) sans lesquels il ne pourrait pas non plus avoir lieu, c’est-à-dire comment peut-il, en tant qu’absolument inconditionné, être conditionné à son tour par ce qu’il conditionne ? 2) comment atteindre l’absolu, comment remonter génétiquement jusqu’à lui, si le « point de départ de la WL » ne peut, suivant l’avertissement de 1801, être « dépassé », soit, en d’autres termes : comment construire l’inconstructible ?This thesis, through the analysis of the concepts of genesis and construction, is about defining the meaning and the intention of Fichte’s philosophical doctrine. Constructing, means showing genetically, that is to say highlighting in the mind the acts needed by reason through which a term comes to existence. There are, fundamentally, two terms to construct. If the construction runs on a “downgoing” movement, the term to be built is the empiric conscience ; if the construction runs on a “upgoing” movement, the term to be built is the absolute. We aimed to demonstrate that the starting point of the deduction (the downgoing construction) – the absolute I – is not identical to the final stage of the “upgoing” construction – the absolute. Since it is this distinction between absolute I and absolute, stated in the XIII th conference of the WL 1804/II as being valid since the Grundlage of 1794, which appeared to us as the only one capable, once recentered at the corse of Fichte’s system, to solve two of the major problems inherent to his philosophy :1) how can the auto-position of the I (identical to the absolute I) condition the acts (putting up the world in the end) without which it couldn’t take place either ; that is to say how can it, as absolutely unconditioned, be conditioned in its turn by what it conditions ?2) how can one reach for the absolute, how is it possible to climb back genetically up to it, if the “WL starting point” can’t be, according to the warning of 1801, “exceeded”, or, in other words : how to construct the inconstructible ?

Une réflexion systématique nécessaire pour envisager véritablement l'altérité d'autrui doit s'articuler en une réflexion sur la coexistence, une autre sur le rapport intersubjectif enfin une dernière sur le rapport d'autrui avec l'autre absolu. L'essence de l'homme nécessite d'être pensée avec l’existence. Cependant la finitude de la connaissance humaine empêche de découvrir à la fois l'essence transcendante singulière et l'essence immanente universelle au sein de l'existence de l'individu. Mais par son don à autrui, le sujet peut découvrir l'eidos d'autrui. Cette certitude d'autrui dans une présentation existentielle subit cependant le doute jusqu'à conduire au solipsisme une phénoménologie d'autrui présente l'apparition d'autrui au sujet aux travers du désir, de la liberté et du langage. La dimension symbolique de la relation avec autrui est exposée. Née au cœur d’une vie familiale et éducative, elle se développe au sein du monde du travail et fonde la société civile et la communauté politique. Notre but dans ce présent travail, c'était d'analyser et de comprendre l'historicité de l'esprit objectivé dans ses moments objectif et absolu dans la philosophie hégélienne sans minimiser l'apport de ses pairs idéalistes. Ce faisant le développement de notre travail a obéi à une structuration ternaire. La première partie traite de l'historicité de l'esprit objectif à travers ses grands moments ou déterminités ; la famille, la société civile et l'Etat. C’est l'étude des institutions humaines, de leur orient jusqu'à leur occident où elles obéissent aux normes universelles de Raison et de Liberté. L'expression du Geist que médiatisent ces déterminités objectives, révèle cependant, une permanence de la contingence dont le propre consiste à l'inscrire dans un processus fini. Ainsi, frappé par le négatif à son sommet qu'est l'Etat dans les relations internationales, l'esprit objectif inconscient dévoile ses limites, que l'esprit n'est pas que politique ; ce qui pose la nécessité de sa subordination à l'esprit absolu, le royaume de la pensée pure, de l'esprit conscient de soi. C'est ce que nous avons analysé dans la deuxième partie du travail. Ici, l'esprit absolu exprime le Geist dans sa haute sphère composée de l'art, de la religion et de la philosophie. Enfin, la troisième partie développe le rapport dialectique entre l'esprit objectif et l'esprit absolu. Cette dernière nous a permis de voir en quoi l'esprit absolu constitue la sphère fondant ce devenir objectif- esprit objectif- et doit être placée au premier plan. On en a tiré un enseignement : celui de la réhabilitation hégélienne de la religion. Celui-ci permet, entre autres, d'amener les daltoniens, en l'occurrence certains spécialistes de la philosophie hégélienne qui méconnaissent la portée de la religion dans le système, à mieux voir clairOur aim in this present work was to analyze and understand the historical dimension of the objectivized mind in its objective and absolute time in Hegel philosophy without minimizing the contributions of his idealist peers. Therefore, the process of our work has obeyed a ternary structure. The first part is about the historical dimension throughout its great times or detreminist aspect ; family, civil society and the State. It is about the study of human institution from their east to their west, where they are subjected to the universal norms of Reason and Liberty. The expression of Geist which those objective deterministic aspect mediatized, shows however a continuous presence of the contingency whose peculiarity is to put it down in a finished process. So, hit by the negative at its top which is the State in the international relations, the objective mind shows its limits because the mind is not even political ; which arises the necessity of its subordination to the absolute mind, the kingdom of pure thinking, of the mind conscious about itself. That is what we have analyzed in the second part. Here, the absolute mind expresses the Geist in its high sphere, composed of art, religion and philosophy. Finally, the third part deals with the dialectical relation between the objective mind and the absolute mind. The latter has enabled us to understand how the absolute mind is the sphere constituting the basis of the objective evolutionobjective mind- and must be highlighted. What we have learnt from it is the hegelian rehabilitation of religion. In fact, it helps, among others, to make colour-blind people, particulary some hegelian specialists who do not master the religious aspect in the system, to see better and clearly

Abstract: Biomimetics is a philosophy in Architecture that addresses issues not through mimicry but by understanding the rules governing natural forms. Biomimetics has gained popularity in the past few decades but it would be more apposite to state that this philosophy may have had its origins many years previously in the conceptualization of the Modulor, as Le Corbusier strived to unite Mathematics, Physiology & Design. Common knowledge shows that disturbed by application of generic Imperial and Standard systems of measurements, the Modulor was ideated to help perceive the built environment as a physical extension of the human body. Le Corbusier’s attempt to develop a harmonious scale towards the measurement of the absolute has been criticized for adopting industrial efficiency; though alienating human emotion was farthest from Corbusier’s thought. What then is the architectural paradox in comprehending The Modulor as the universal proportioning system- racial differences in anthropometry, mechanizing architectural built forms within and without or simply an apprehension of losing mannerisms in architecture? Trying to unravel the mysteries of nature through analytics of the numbering system, Corbusier was consumed by the all-pervasive need to find answers to eternal questions in scientific spirituality. This paper explores the inevitable order of Le Corbusier’s universe, revisiting the conceptualization of the Modulor, its relevance to architectural philosophies in general and Biomimetics in particular and the universal application of the same as a governing factor in Design methodologies. The problem of the balance between society and personality, awareness of ‘individuality’, ‘personality’, as well as ‘publicity’ (publicness) are ranked among the central philosophical issues. There are many interpretations of them. And these matters remain critical in today’s ‘individualised’ society. Based on a philosophic-anthropological approach, and using comparative-historical methods, the authors trace the cultural-historical transformation of the subsistence of an individual in society from Antiquity to the present. An individual is characterised via such conceptions as ‘social type’, ‘individuality’, ‘personality’. The author’s interpretation of these concepts does not always coincide with the generally accepted one. In particular, the individual is often understood as an ‘ensemble of social relations’, i.e. as synonymous with the social. Furthermore, the authors define the term ‘social type’ as an expression of the societal, the term ‘individuality’ as a holograph or verge of the world, the absolute, mankind, whereas the term ‘personality’ is understood as an individuality rendered ‘in-being-with-others’. The main developmental trend in the relationship between the individual and society is the long cultural-historical transition from an individuality ‘outside the world’ to an individuality ‘in the world’. The authors justify the idea that an individualised society is not a society of individuals. Furthermore, the transformation of the conventional conception of publicness is revealed, the ephemerality of publicness in contemporary society in general, and particularly in virtual space, is highlighted. Publicness is substituted with cocktail parties, ‘cloakroom communities’, and shindigs. The article deals with the construction of virtual identity in the social media of the younger generation. At the end of the article, the authors conclude that in the contemporary world of multiple identities, a person has to look for life values, once again facing the problem of choice and a new understanding of freedom.

Аксенов создал метагеометрическую концепцию пространственно-временной модели мироздания, где утверждал, что воспринимаемые человеком объекты как трехмерные на самом деле четырехмерны и существуют в четырехмерном пространстве в абсолютном покое. Идея иллюзорности движения, изменения, развития объективного мира была фундаментом в рассуждениях М.С. Аксенова. Человек, в его понимании, живет в неизменяющейся Вселенной, находясь в непрерывном движении во времени, воспринимаемом им не как свое собственное, а как изменения, происходящие с ней. Ярким представителем плеяды русских математиков-философов был и участник «Московской философско-математической школы» Н.В. Бугаев, разработавший оригинальное учение – аритмологию, которую вместе с математикой он считал специфической методологией, способной помочь в поиске ответов на сложные вопросы научно-философского понимания мира. Еще одной идеей Н.В. Бугаева, где проявилась связь математики и философии, была идея эволюционного развития природного, социального и духовного миров, воплощенная им в его монадологии. Философские работы М.С. Аксенова и Н.В. Бугаева, в которых они использовали математические модели для осмысления мироустройства, способствовали разработке и осознанию роли «философско-математического синтеза» как метода познания. Among the representatives of Russian philosophy of the XIX–XX centuries, there were many who tried to identify the nature of the relationship in the process of cognition of the world of philosophy and mathematics. One of them was M.S. Aksenov, who created the metageometric concept of the space-time model of the universe, where he argued that the objects perceived by man as three-dimensional are four-dimensional and exist in four-dimensional space in absolute rest. The idea of the illusory nature of movement, change, and the development of the objective world was the foundation of M.S. Aksenov's reasoning. Man, in his understanding, lives in an unchanging Universe, being in continuous motion in time, perceived by him not as his own, but as changes occurring with it. A prominent representative of Russian mathematicians and philosophers was also a member of the "Moscow Philosophical and Mathematical School" N.V. Bugaev, who developed an original teaching – arrhythmology, which, together with mathematics, he considered a specific methodology that could help in finding answers to complex questions of scientific and philosophical understanding of the world. Another idea of N.V. Bugaev, where the connection between mathematics and philosophy was manifested, was the idea of the evolutionary development of the natural, social, and spiritual worlds, embodied by him in his monadology. The philosophical works of M. S. Aksenov and N. V. Bugaev, in which they used mathematical models to understand the world order, contributed to the development and awareness of the role of "philosophical and mathematical synthesis" as a method of cognition.

The anthropocentric approach that characterizes all human knowledge has led to a distortion of the relationship with Nature and a view of it as a mere object of law. This approach, presumably originating with Socrates, had solid support in Plato, Aristotle, Ptolemy, and finally, in Catholic patristics, hinging on all disciplines starting from philosophy, psychology, economics, up to law. Dwelling on the latter, examples of legislation that qualify Nature as an object of law are, increasingly over time, the Forest Charter of 1217, the Italian Law No. 1766 of 1927 on civic uses, and furthermore – Art. 812 of the Italian Civil Code, and finally – the cd. Consolidated Environmental Law. This view is, however, changing in some states such as Bolivia, New Zealand, India, Ecuador, Uganda, – the states that through either legislative acts or rulings of supreme courts have begun the process of granting both to Mother Earth in general, and rivers in particular, the status of juridical persons which are endowed with series of very personal rights, which are recognized. This is not the case in Europe, where the relevant legislation continues to consider Nature (or, better, the Environment) as an object of law, therefore as a “thing” from which to draw, albeit within certain limits, utilities of all kinds. By analysing legal instruments potentially useful for a Copernican revolution on this point – in particular, the Kelsenian concept of “legal person”, the meaning of “company” and the European provisions on Artificial Intelligence – the first conclusion is reached: in a relationship that is not only theoretical, but also practical and utilitarian, it would be opportune to start considering, also through acknowledgments in constitutional sources, the Nature as a subject and no longer an object of rights. In this regard, following the general theories of people’s rights, it could be granted certain absolute rights, of which the right to water, restoration and biodiversity are examined in the current article. Hence, we come to the second conclusion, namely, the contrasts that, in Western law, such an approach could suffer, analysing in particular the problems of neo-naturalism and representation.

The number of foreigners residing in Korea exceeded 2.5 million for the first time ever. As the ratio of foreigners to the total population approaches 5%, it is evaluated that Korea has actually entered a multicultural society. It is known that among the types of foreigners staying there are many young foreigners who visit Korea for the purpose of employment. The number of marriage immigrants was 16,025, an increase of 4.3% from the previous year. Of these, 82.6% were women. Entering a multicultural society in a situation where empathy for each other is insufficient can lead to social conflict. In particular, in the COVID-19 pandemic, hostility toward foreigners is more prevalent, and hatred for strangers is increasing. This study critically analyzes these social phenomena and seeks to raise the philosophical basis for multicultural education by establishing a concept with a new perspective on the other. This paper focuses on the philosophy of Buber and Levinas. By establishing 'I and You' as a meeting, Buber presented a new relationship with others. Meanwhile, Levinas emphasized human ethics and responsibility as the absolute and infinite being of the other. According to Buber, in the world there is a relationship between 'I-You' and 'I-It', and in order to live a true life, you must establish a relationship between 'I and you'. The relationship between 'I and it' is a temporary and mechanical relationship where objects can be replaced at any time by looking at the world from an instrumental point of view. However, the relationship between 'I and You' is a relationship that faces each other personally, and the only 'I' that cannot be changed with anything and the 'You' that cannot be replaced exist in deep trust. In phenomenology of otherness, Levinas intends to describe the encounter with the something outside the subject. The concepts of possession, distinctiveness and understanding are replaced by those of approaches, proximity, care and fecundity. In Korean society, a policy that seeks to use foreigners as human resources and, especially in the case of marriage immigrant women, as a solution to a society with low birthrates along with the labor force, shows how society treats others. Therefore, multicultural education must rethink the existence and dignity of human beings through the perspective of the other as asserted in the philosophy of Buber and Levinas.

The aim of this paper is to present advances in the blading design for large steam turbines — ‘Controlled Flow’ technology. The purpose of the design is to improve the turbine efficiency in a cost neutral manner, adding value for the customer. Controlled Flow is a 3D design philosophy which passes more flow through the efficient middle sections of the blade, and less flow through the comparatively inefficient regions near the endwalls. It has been used for the Impulse Technology Blading ITB guide blades. The current improvement builds on the previous successful Controlled Flow design but incorporates the following new features: - Ultra High Lift for the mean section (at significantly reduced axial width) - Ultra High Back Surface Deflection for the mean section - forward leading edge sweep. The new guide delivers the same radial distribution of absolute fluid exit angle to the runner as the previous design. Confirmatory model turbine tests demonstrated that the new guide delivered a stage efficiency improvement of 0.35%, above an already very high datum level. The endwall sections of the guide are kept the same which maintains the mechanical strength of the diaphragm (same stress and deflection). Therefore, the new design can easily ‘slot-in’ and replace the previous design. The following will be described in detail: - History of the designs/background and design philosophy - Flow physics - Stage optimization and performance prediction - Probabilistic analysis and robustness of the design - Confirmatory model turbine testing and validation (comparison with design predictions).

The paper presents a cost effectiveness assessment of the safety in a design code for oil tankers. The marginal cost to safety improvements is based on code calibration studies for different target reliabilities. This allows basing the actual target reliability indices on risk acceptance criteria derived from cost effectiveness of the marginal change in scantling requirements. This approach is in agreement with the criteria defined in IMO submissions and used in the ongoing IMO coordinated Formal Safety Assessment studies on bulk carriers. The documentation that cost effectiveness criteria may be applied has previously been submitted to IMO. It is concluded that the method works quite well in the examples that are presented, and that the current codes are in close agreement with decision criteria used for other risk control options. As probabilities calculated by structural reliability methods are notional, it is also advantageous to use marginal costs to safety improvement instead of absolute numbers of probabilities as acceptance criterion. It is indicated that a cost effectiveness criterion may replace the current practice of basing target reliabilities on calibration against previous best practices. Although the basic safety philosophy is changed radically, the study does not indicate that the change in criteria would result in much change in design. The advantage of using the suggested approach is the consistency with ongoing FSA development at IMO.

The recent boom and collapse of the corn ethanol industry calls into question on the long-term sustainability of biofuels and traditional approaches to biofuel systems design. Compared with petroleum based transportation fuel production, biofuel production systems are so closely connected and heavily influenced by natural systems that they have to deal with high degrees of complexity, variability and unpredictability. Accordingly, a fundamental change in design philosophy is necessary for long-term viability of biofuel production. The new approach requires the system to be designed not for a narrowly defined efficiency (both economic and ecological), but for resilience (indicated by characteristics such as diversity, efficiency, cohesion and adaptability) to absorb unexpected disruptions and changes. Also, biofuel systems must be endowed with transformability to allow for “creative destruction” when current transportation fuels are eventually supplanted by new vehicle technologies and/or mode of transportation. This paper addresses important concepts in the design of coupled engineering-ecological systems (i.e. resilience, adaptability and transformability) that determine future system trajectories at multiple scales. In addition, several emerging biofuel conversion technologies are examined from a resilience perspective. It is suggested that the thermo-chemical conversion technologies may be preferable for biofuel production from resilience aspect. However, multiple technologies may increase the diversity and flexibility of the entire industry. This paper calls for the development of quantitative metrics for resilience assessment (similar to life cycle assessment for environmental sustainability) of industrial system, which are critical for integrating resilience into technology development and system design.

International emission tests (EPA, SFTP, MVEG-B, J-10.15, etc.) are carried out with vehicles running on the rolls dynamometer. Results, in terms of total emissions, are influenced by vehicles parameters such as mass, gear ratios, front surface, drag coefficient, etc. It would be useful, in the automobiles design phase, to have information about the impact of these parameters on total emissions. The obvious solution would be to build up a complete vehicle model to simulate performance and emission levels. Engine pollutants production modeling is the weak point, since it is difficult to obtain reliable results. Anyway it is possible to avoid pollutants production simulation, testing the actual engine under the same operating condition it would face inside the car’s hood. This paper describes a methodology whose aim is to test the engine on a standard test bench, simulating on-board operating conditions. An equivalence condition has to be satisfied in order to guarantee the methodology effectiveness: engine speed and Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) must always match for the two types of test performed on the same driving cycle. Engine speed and torque can be controlled through the bench actuators, their values depending on the simulated vehicle motion: once the car dynamics are simulated by means of a model, engine speed and torque corresponding to the given driving cycle can in fact be evaluated. The model is solved in real time, its output being the brake load torque value satisfying the equivalence condition. The brake controller, used as a slave, regulates the engine operating conditions consequently. The global model incorporates tires, aerodynamic forces, clutch, gearbox and driveline behaviors simulation: its response has been first validated comparing its outputs with data measured on board, and then it has been used to control an eddy current brake, for vehicle test simulation on the test bench. Two different control philosophies can be used: either a human driver or an automatic controller can ride the simulated car. The influence of vehicle parameters and gearshift mode on fuel consumption and pollutant emissions can be investigated.

As part of the passenger equipment crashworthiness research, sponsored by the Federal Railroad Administration and supported by the Volpe Center, passenger coach and cab cars have been tested in inline collision conditions. The purpose of these tests was to establish baseline levels of crashworthiness performance for the conventional equipment and demonstrate the minimum achievable levels of enhancement using performance based alternatives. The alternative strategy pursued is the application of the crash energy management design philosophy. The goal is to provide a survivable volume where no intrusion occurs so that passengers can safely ride out the collision or derailment. In addition, lateral buckling and override modes of deformation are prevented from occurring. This behavior is contrasted with that observed from both full scale tests recently conducted and historical accidents where both lateral buckling and/or override occurs for conventionally designed equipment. A prototype crash energy management coach car design has been developed and successfully tested in two full-scale tests. The design showed significant improvements over the conventional equipment similarly tested. The prototype design had to meet several key requirements including: it had to fit within the same operational volume of a conventional car, it had to be retrofitted onto a previously used car, and it had to be able to absorb a prescribed amount of energy within a maximum allowable crush distance. To achieve the last requirement, the shape of the force crush characteristic had to have tiered force plateaus over prescribed crush distances to allow for crush to be passed back from one crush zone to another. The distribution of crush along the consist length allows for significantly higher controlled energy absorption which results in higher safe closing speeds.
