Abstract:

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined as a sudden decrease in kidney function. Phytomedicines have shown positive effects in the treatment of AKI worldwide. Abstract:

Resumo Um tratamento taxonômico de Abuta para o estado do Acre é apresentado. A metodologia abrangeu a análise do material proveniente de 17 coletas e amostras de exsicatas de herbários nacionais e estrangeiros, além de literatura especializada. O gênero está representado na área por oito espécies: Abuta barbata, A. brevifolia, A. grandifolia, A. obovata, A. pahnii, A. rufescens, A. sandwithiana e A. solimoesensis. São apresentadas chave de identificação, descrições e ilustrações das espécies, bem como dados adicionais sobre distribuição geográfica e comentários taxonômicos.

Abuta grandifolia es una planta natural de la región amazónica, utilizada popularmente en el control de la diabetes mellitus. El objetivo de la presente investigación fue evaluar la eficacia reductora del nivel de glicemia del extracto acuoso (EA) de A. grandifolia (Mart.) administrado vía oral en ratas diabéticas inducidas por aloxano. Resumo Este estudo engloba as espécies de Menispermaceae registradas para as cangas da Serra dos Carajás, no estado do Pará, trazendo descrições detalhadas, ilustrações e comentários morfológicos das espécies. Foram registradas uma espécie do gênero Abuta: A. grandifolia e duas espécies do gênero Cissampelos: C. andromorpha e C. laxiflora para a área de estudo. Os gêneros são amplamente distribuídos em florestas tropicais nas Américas do Norte (Sul do México), Central, e do Sul, sendo o centro de diversidade na Amazônia (Brasil, Guiana, Suriname e Guiana Francesa).

Abstract:

Abuta grandifolia (Mart.) Sandwith varies in habit and can be a shrub, tree or liana. Its stem shows successive cambia that produce secondary phloem and xylem. This study analyses qualitative and quantitative differences between the secondary xylem of lianas and shrubs of A. grandifolia, as well as between the successive rings within each habit category. The lianas had wider vessels, shorter vessel elements and thinner fibre-tracheid walls. In the first five successive rings, lianas showed an increase in vessel diameter and fibre-tracheid length, while fibre-tracheid wall thickness decreased.
