The objective of this study was to analyze the variation in timber production in Acacia hybrid plantations based on age and different sites. Data were collected from 50 standard plots (25 × 20 m) of different plantation ages ranging from 2 to 10 years. The site condition of Acacia hybrid plantations were assessed using 5 site indices from I to V. Site index functions were developed from the height of 50 dominant trees at the age of 10. Production functions at the average tree level were constructed using data from 50 trees at age 10. The research results showed that 5 site indices of Acacia hy

Abstract Development of the hybridization between two different species of Acacia mangium and Acacia auriculiformis in Indonesia started in 2009 by establishing an open-pollinated orchard to produce the natural Acacia hybrid seed in Wonogiri District, Central Java Province. Abstract Wood-based forestry industries are one of the strategic sectors in the development for providing a good impact in ecological and socio-economic in a country. Such an industry should have high productivity in order to ensure sustainable resources and an efficient manufacturing process. Based on this fact, tree breeding program is one of the good practices which could be done through the hybridization method to increase the uses from forest genetic resources. The Acacia hybrid (Acacia mangium x A. auriculiformis, Leguminosae: Mimosoideae) has created considerable interest for plantations because of its adaptability and growth performance when compared to the parental species. Two peak flowering periods in the hybrid appear to coincide with high rainfall and temperature, whereas two fruit-maturation periods occur during a windy dry season. The hybrid is andromonoecious. An increasing proportion of the Acacia hybrid plantations established (now standing at 400,000 ha) is managed for solid wood, mainly for furniture. Silvicultural practices such as pruning and thinning ensure the production of knot-free logs of sufficient quality for sawing. However the wounds that such practices involve may lead to fungal invasion which causes stem defects and degrade. In order to assess the extent of fungal stem defect associated with pruning, a destructive survey was conducted in a 3-ye
