Abstract:
Academic libraries operate in a fluid environment, where they must provide, and demonstrate that they provide, a high quality service that is focussed on customers’ needs. It is broadly accepted that the way to provide a high quality service responsive to customers’ needs is to have a culture of quality that underpins all the organisation’s efforts, i.e. TQM. The literature on how to improve the service quality of libraries in particular, and organisations in general, is extensive and varied. But it is not informative to practitioners who wish to know what to do to improve the quality culture

Abstract:
The application of Total Quality Management and Academic Accreditation has become the goal of most higher education institutions worldwide, including Saudi Arabian institutions. Total Quality Management and Academic Accreditation are now the organisation and evaluative principles of these universities. The argument of this research is that the cultural, social, organisational and technological aspects of universities in Saudi Arabia as well as their rules and policies have the potential to impact, or have already impacted, on the formulation, development and implementation of these principles.

Doctor of Philosophy
Department of Hospitality and Dietetics
Chihyung Ok and Betsy Barrett
The meeting industry has seen significant growth over the last few decades and has now become truly global. As the number of conferences increases and attendees have so many conferences to choose from, understanding how they evaluate the conference experience is more important than ever. Previous studies have focused on site selection factors, destination perception and image, economic impact, and meeting planner issues, not on the conference experience itself. Abstract:
Land use affects the water quality of lakes. Different land use types yield different effects due to varying amounts and constituents of runoff. In this study, the effects of surrounding land use on the water quality of 50 lakes in Seminole County, Florida was assessed. Using GIS, I placed buffers of 100 and 500 m around each lake. The percentages of land use type were calculated within these buffers for 1990 and 1995. An ordination of lakes was done using Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) to determine if the surrounding land use patterns were adequate to describe the trophic status of t

This thesis documents the relationship among the major water quality parametersduring a nitrification episode. Nitrification unexpectedly occurred in a chloraminated pilotdrinking water distribution system practicing with a 4.0 mg/L as Cl[subscript 2] residual dosed at 4.5:1Cl[subscript 2]:NH[subscript 3]-N. Surface, ground and sea water were treated and disinfected withmonochloramines to produce finished water quality similar to regional utility water quality.PVC, galvanized, unlined cast iron and lined iron pipes were harvested from regionaldistribution systems and used to build eighteen pil

This research began, amid the growing and global quality movement in Higher Education, with questions about the comparability of academic standards in different institutions. It seemed reasonable to wonder whether all institutions, many of which were new universities, could offer educational programs which would result in graduates of the same standard throughout the system. The issue has to do with the quality assurance mechanisms of universities. However, assuring (and ensuring) the quality of the academic product requires a meaningful definition of what the term"academic standard" means an
