Abstract:
A Monetary Hope for Europe. This book studies the euro in a global perspective and opens a new series edited by the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence of the University of Florence, Verso l’unificazione europea. Most of the chapters have been written by economists who met and discussed their diverse views at a multi-disciplinary conference organized by the Centre in May 2013 under the title The euro and the struggle for the creation of a new global currency: Problems and perspectives in the building of the political, financial and economic foundations of the European federal government. The list of contributors also includes historians as well as European and international law academics. Their essays have been revised on the basis and against the backdrop of an ongoing crisis of both the euro and the whole European project in the last years and months. The volume aims to provide useful data and interpretations to improve knowledge on the euro and the European Union in their economic, historical, juridical and political perspectives.

Abstract:
The book commemorating the centenary of the establishment of the Faculty of Arts is also a contribution to the anniversary of the whole Masaryk University. Its aim is to walk through the history of the faculty by means of a biographical method, i.e., using short biographies that introduce representative, prominent or interesting personalities whose fates and work were connected with the faculty. There was certainly no lack of biographical views in the research of the faculty history, still, such a complex set of biograms has not been collected so far. And the publication offers much more: the authors use a large set of biographical data to interpret the history of the faculty from the perspective of alternating academic generations and contemplate the formative generation experience as well as the phenomena that affected the lives of academics and students over the past 100 years. These include, as a matter of fact, both positive and negative phenomena, therefore, the publication is not just an overview of deserving personalities, respected scientists and charismatic teachers, but it also openly discusses the lives of controversial scholars. Thus, the collection of biograms provides a credible testimony to the one-hundred-year work of the faculty, continually blending studies, science and politics.

Abstract:
This chapter outlines the ways in which the workforce is becoming increasingly global, such that having an international perspective on diversity is ever more important. Using an intersectional framework on diversity, this chapter suggests that intersectionality, or the consideration of multiple identity statuses, might be enriched with the consideration of culture as a personal identity layer and/or as a factor that may change perceptions of identity categories across context. This chapter will then outline how national context might shape the meaning of and reactions to diverse identities, highlighting the additional effects of organizational, local, and regional contexts. Finally, this chapter provides implications for research and practice related to discrimination, in order to ensure more nuanced approaches to diversity management, for academics and practitioners alike.

Crosina, Eliana, and Jean M. Bartunek. The Paradoxical Mystery of the Missing Differences between Academics and Practitioners. Edited by Wendy K. Smith, Marianne W. Lewis, Paula Jarzabkowski, and Ann Langley. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780198754428.013.28.

Abstract:
Most discussions of academic–practitioner relationships highlight differences, especially with regard to their relative emphases on rigor or relevance. While not disagreeing with such differences, the authors show: 1) several ways academics and practitioners may be similar in their theorizing and practices; and 2) how these similarities have been almost entirely missed in prior scholarship. They suggest the importance of viewing academic–practitioner relationships from a duality perspective—one that includes their interdependence on and need for each other. Assisted by the contributions of Saul Alinsky and Donald Schön, the authors consider academic–practitioner relationships from a more encompassing standpoint that includes how they may jointly contribute to larger social issues, and acknowledges that the degrees of their reflexivity be a more important distinction than their roles. Finally they suggest paradoxical dimensions of academic–practitioner relationships that are surfaced by their analysis.

Brass, Daniel J. A Social Network Perspective on Organizational Citizenship Behavior. Edited by Philip M. Podsakoff, Scott B. Mackenzie, and Nathan P. Podsakoff. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780190219000.013.25.

Abstract:
This chapter provides a brief general primer on social network theory and how it might be applied to organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) as an alternative perspective to the undersocialized (isolated individual) and oversocialized (norm and culture) views of behavior in organizations. I identify social network relationships that are likely to affect the performance and receipt of OCBs and propose a model of the diffusion of OCBs through an organization, noting differences between organizational networks such as cliques and core-periphery structures. In the process, I attempt to identify research questions that may be of interest to both academics and managers. The overarching goal is to provide readers with enough information to apply a social network perspective to OCB.

Lees, Emma, and Jorge E. Viñuales, eds. The Oxford Handbook of Comparative Environmental Law. Oxford University Press, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/law/9780198790952.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
The study of environmental law has been relatively limited to date, with researchers either adopting a country-by-country approach or comparing a limited number of jurisdictions on some specific points, or, still, addressing a specific area or problem in detail without seeking to encompass environmental law as a whole. This book fills a gap in the disciplines of comparative law and environmental law by providing the first comprehensive analysis of comparative environmental law from an integrated perspective. In addition to the common approaches to the subject, the book also addresses the fundamental systems underpinning the diversity observed across countries as well as the interactions of environmental laws and instruments with their broader legal context. The former have received limited attention to date, while the latter are important not only because such interactions may heavily influence the effectiveness and resilience of environmental law but also because some non-environmental instruments may operate as extremely powerful vehicles of environmental protection. Combining commentaries by leading academics from around the world as well as observations by a new generation of scholars who have different perspectives on the questions being addressed, this book is a valuable resource for both academics and practitioners in the field.

Full text
Abstract:
Understanding the contemporary transformation of citizenship requires insights from many disciplines and perspectives. The Oxford Handbook of Citizenship brings together multidisciplinary and comparative contributions from legal academics, political scientists, sociologists, geographers, historians, and philosophers, to set a new agenda for both theoretical and practical explorations of citizenship. The main challenges and prospects in today's world of increased migration and globalization will be explored, and attention will also be given to new forms of membership and democratic participation beyond borders, as well as to the rise of European and multilevel citizenship-developments that are increasing the potential for citizenship to operate not only at the nation-state level, but also above and below it. The Handbook will be a major reference for those engaged with citizenship from a legal, political, and cultural perspective.
