Powerful access control is becoming one of the major needs in scientific project management systems these days. Because the requirements are becoming more and more sophisticated and highly discipline specific, no existing access control tool is available that developers could adopt directly. This thesis proposes a general and flexible security administration module that can be easily integrated into scientific project management systems, especially if they are based on a 3-tier architecture. The module is based on role-based access control (RBAC) technology to provide flexibility and ex

This depends on the clinicians having access to the information they need to make the best, most informed, care decisions. Investigations revealed that the issue of availability was crucial to users in the hospital domain studied, and that to minimise the administrative burden on system administrators, the users needed to take some of the load. Abstract:
Security systems are gaining increasing importance in recent times to protect life and valuable resources. Many advanced methods of providing security have been developed and are in use in the last few decades. Of these, one important area is the security system required for military/strategic applications, which has advanced greatly. But, such systems being complex and expensive are useful in high-end applications only. However, with the recent progress in technology and the growing need for increased security in civilian and other applications, many low cost solutions for security systems ha

A significant part of our daily lives is dependent on the continuous operation of Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS). They are used to control the processes of delivering electricity and clean water to our households, to run and supervise manufacturing industries that produce things we use every day. Therefore, undisturbed, safe and secure operation of IACS are highly important for us all. A malfunctioning IACS may cause damage to the environment, stop production of goods or disrupt essential infrastructure.  The ongoing transformations related to the Industry 4.0 paradigm is hav

The introduction of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) within healthcare organizations has the main goal of integrating heterogeneous patient information that is usually scattered over different locations. However, there are some barriers that impede the effective integration of EMR within the healthcare practice (e.g., educational, time/costs, security). A focus in improving access control definition and implementation is fundamental to define proper system workflow and access. The main objectives of this research are: to involve end users in the definition of access control rules; to determine
