As part of the Creative Well program at a local health board, one of the authors qualitatively investigated how painting can access a means of communication for people living with dementia. In a workshop setting within a gallery environment, participants living with dementia were facilitated on a one-to-one basis the opportunity to paint alongside the researcher. During the workshops, a number of experiences were articulated. These included experiences of illness, crisis, and loss. They were captured through observations, interviews, visual art, and video to contribute to new understandings an

With the help of theoretical analysis and numerical simulations by using FLUENT software, in the first stage, reasonable construction ventilation is designed and cases with different outside temperature are discussed to investigate the effect of ventilation performance. It is found that with temperature difference increases, peak value of CO concentration, exhausting time of dirty air and required time to meet the CO concentration quali

Art and shamanism are often represented as timeless, universal features of human experience, with an apparently immutable relationship. Shamanism is frequently held to represent the origin of religion and shamans are characterized as the first artists, leaving their infamous mark in the cave art of Upper Palaeolithic Europe. Despite a disconnect of several millennia, modern artists too, from Wassily Kandinsky and Vincent van Gogh, to Joseph Beuys and Marcus Coates, have been labelled as inspired visionaries who access the trance-like states of shamans, and these artists of the ‘white cube’ or

Abstract The Western Australian Museum’s iconic 5.2-m megamouth shark (Megachasma pelagios) was relocated 20 km from Perth to the Maritime Museum in Fremantle for treatment in an exhibition gallery. A 70% ethanol solution was diluted to 16% before the glass lids of the fiberglass tank were removed to facilitate removal of the heavy shark. A custom-made stainless steel storage and exhibition tank containing 8,000 L of 30% glycerol solution was prepared inside the exhibition space prior to the arrival of the specimen. Make your collections memorable and accessible to audiences of all abilities by incorporating the principles of universal design (UD) in your museum exhibits. Universal design provides equitable access to resources, much the way that curb cuts improve access to roads and sidewalks. Museums spend considerable effort protecting specimens from agents of deterioration but this usually means that only one sense - vision - is employed in our exhibits. Providing greater accessibility may seem daunting, expensive, or dangerous for specimens but, by considering a few principles during exhibit developme
