The releases of hazardous substance from pressurised pipelines are of particular interest due to the different scenarios that may occur following the loss of containment. These may have different causes, as accidental release, corrosion, etc. In such cases the release of flammable substances can lead to different scenarios as Fires, Explosions and Environmental pollutions. The severity of such scenarios can increase due the "Domino Effect" that will affect also other equipment or near unit operations, potentially causing a cascading event. Previous experiments demonstrated that the accidental release of high pressure hydrogen into air can lead to the possibility of spontaneous ignition. It is believed that this ignition is due to the heating of the mixing layer, between hydrogen and air, caused by a shock wave that is driven by the pressurized hydrogen during the release. Currently, this problem is poorly understood and not amenable to direct numerical simulation. This is due to the presence of a wide range of scales between the sizes of the blast wave and the very thin mixing layer. The present study addresses this fundamental

Multi-criteria decision aid has emerged from the operational research field as the answer given to a couple of important questions encountered in complex decisions problems. Firstly, as decision aiding tools, such methods do not replace the decision maker with a mathematical model, but support him to construct his solution by describing and evaluating his options. Secondly, instead of using a unique criterion capturing all aspects of the problem, in the multi-criteria decision aid methods one seeks to build multiple criteria, representing several points of view. <p>This work explores the appli

Ammonia is used as a coolant in various plants. I have compiled a list of all plants in South Bohemia that work with ammonia, including ice rinks. I characterized the properties of ammonia, what damage it causes to the human organism and the environment. I noted a list of accidents during which there have been ammonia leakages of ammonia and I analyzed one accident using a software programme called TerEx. I chose the building of the

Many petroleum and petrochemical companies are now required to regularly involved in preparing safety reports in the emergency response planning. In order to complete the safety reports, a number of calculations must be completed, including fluid release rate in case of vessel or pipe failure, and subsequent evaporation and dispersion of a toxic or flammable vapor

Abstract:
In the light of almost daily media reports of accidents and incidents of violence in South African schools, it can be assumed that most South African schools are unsafe. This study investigates the manner in which rural public schools implement the school safety regulations prescribed by the South African Schools Act to ensure learner safety. This qualitative study investigates the implementation of the Schools Act’s safety regulations at four public schools situated in the rural areas east of Pretoria in Gauteng. Data was gathered using interviews with the principals of these schools as well
