Abstract:
Abstract The present study investigates language choice in two bilingual speech communities in the United States: Nogales, AZ and San Ysidro, CA. Ethnically distinct fieldworkers approached members of these two communities under the guise of being lost tourists in order to engage in casual speech encounters. It was found that language choice varied between the two communities, with participants of the San Ysidro community more likely to engage in codeswitching. Ethnicity was also found to be a significant predictor of language choice, with more codeswitching taking place with the fieldworker of a Hispanic phenotype. Potential explanations and factors for future research are discussed.

Abstract:
This study aims to prove the role of price moderation in the travel choice component, namely the relationship of destination, accommodation, travel companions, and duration of open trip travel choice. The sample used was 120 tourists who travelled using an open trip package. The analysis in this study is a structural equation model (SEM-PLS) with a moderating effect using the SMARTPLS 03 software. The results showed that the destination, travel companion, and duration variables significantly influence travel tour choices. The accommodation has a negative coefficient but does not have a significant effect on travel choice. The price moderation coefficient also affects the strengthening of the relationship of destination, travel companions, and duration with travel choice. However, price moderation weakens the bond between accommodation and travel options.

Abstract:
Tourists’ intentions show many changing dynamics, both in terms of destination and accommodation selection. These changes in dynamics are seasonal and significantly affected by trends. Therefore, after an infectious disease outbreak, as is the case with COVID-19 caused by a new coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2, these dynamics change on an entirely different level and are so far unknown. Contextual research was conducted to define and analyze the impacts of SARS-CoV-2 on Azores residents’ tourism accommodations plans in 2020 by examining their intentions. The most frequent choice was to spend 2020 vacations at the vacation residences of family or friends (24.3%), followed by approximately 20% who chose three- to four-star hotels. A considerable increase in rural tourism accommodation selection intentions was noticed, obtaining the third position with 13.7%, followed by local accommodation (guest house) with 12.1% of the selection intentions. The study concludes that there are massive consequences of the SARS-CoV-2 crisis at the level of holiday choices and social isolation concerns for this ultra-peripheral territory.

Abstract:
This research examines the predictors of accommodation granting among adult workers with disabilities using data collected from 5,418 respondents to a Statistics Canada post 2006 census survey called the Participation and Activity Limitation Survey. Using a rational choice perspective that focuses on perceived utility (limited by social identity effects), I test a series of hypotheses about individual, organizational, and institutional variables that predict willingness to grant disability-related workplace accommodations. One key finding is that different predictors are significant for different types of accommodations, highlighting the need to avoid generalizing from one type of accommodation to another. Another important finding is that, as a category, individual variables directly related to disability explained a greater amount of variance in accommodation granting than other aspects of personal identity, organizational factors, or institutional variables. There was evidence that decision-making was influenced by stereotyping and the stigmatization of particular disability types. There was also evidence that occupational and industry-based logics of appropriateness are salient for the most commonly requested types of accommodations. Meanwhile institutional forces meant to act as behavioural controls, such as legislation and union protection, do not seem to be having the intended positive influence on accommodation provision in the workplace. The findings suggest that other forms of intervention, such as community education, may be required to encourage greater access to workplace accommodations.

Abstract:
Bali is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the world with various forms of accommodation. Start from five star hotels until small lodgings built in each community residential unit. The strong custom and restrictions on tall buildings in Bali, making people look for various new alternatives to develop accommodation. The existence of local regulations that require the use of traditional Balinese ornamentation, requires accommodation owners to find adaptive accommodation development methods. However, with the development of the digital industry 4.0 specifically in contact with online advertising, there are no official rules in Bali that regulate it. This condition makes the demand for cheap accommodation in Bali seem unlimited. The promotion system no longer requires government legality. This phenomenon makes accommodations in remote places even can be accessed easily by all people in the world. The community then competes with each other to build cheap accommodations in their traditional homes. The government also cannot touch the spatial development caused by online media demand, due to the absence of regulations that limit it. This research tries to identify the bed bunk phenomenon that is built and operationalized through online promotion media, and has no legality. Data collection was carried out by direct observation of the object of study in Canggu village, district of North Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali Province. The findings of this study indicate that, bed bunk was born in Bali due to the high demand for backpacker tourists which is sufficient with wifi, table and bed facilities. The high cost of land in Bali encourages local people to build accommodations in their residential units. The maximum utilization of the interior (construction of 6-8 beds in one room) is the most preferred choice. This condition is due to vertical building restrictions that cannot exceed 15m and economic factors (get maximum income on narrow land). This finding is expected to be used as an evaluation material for spatial improvement in Bali which has an impact on congestion throughout the tourist area due to uncontrolled accommodation development.

With short-break holidays increasing in popularity, identifying accommodation attributes sought by travellers has attracted the attention of scholars. In addition to identifying attributes, the impact of cultural factors on these attributes remain unknown. Using the Repertory Test, this thesis identifies accommodation attributes for short-break holidays, important to travellers of Chinese descent in Brisbane. The results suggest that 'availability of a restaurant' and 'staff attitude' are the top two attributes. This thesis provides valuable insights for the Australian accommodation industry, helping practitioners better understand travellers' needs for their short-break holidays and predict which accommodation attributes travellers consider the most important.

Abstract:
Abstract In my thesis, I have studied Tampere as a Swedish language island from a sociolinguistic perspective with Bernard Spolsky’s approach to language sociology as the theoretical framework. By language policy I mean language planning efforts and various forms of both conscious and unconscious linguistic practices which become visible as practices in everyday life on different levels of society. Of all the approximately twenty Swedish clubs, associations and institutions in Tampere, I have focused on two important spaces, namely the institutions Svenska samskolan i Tammerfors (the Swedish school) and Tammerfors svenska församling (the Swedish congregation). The aim of the study is to find out what kinds of practices, processes and choices are negotiated in these language island communities. I examine the communities both on an institutional and an individual level. My goal is to describe the kind of a language policy the institutions and individuals create and apply in their daily activities. The study is descriptive and aims to illustrate the sociocultural reality of the Swedish language on both the macro and micro levels in a Finnish-speaking majority context. In the study, I have applied triangulation on the levels of both method and material. I have used various types of data such as questionnaires, field notes, documents, written works, webpages and thematic interviews due to the varying types of the institutions and focus groups. The different materials studied required the application of both quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis. In the case of open questions and thematic interviews I have applied content analysis, leading to a process of abstraction. The results of the study show that the Swedish institutions Svenska samskolan i Tammerfors and Tammerfors svenska församling have over the course of time gone through a change in language policy. This has led to the application of varied linguistic practices in everyday life. Characteristic for the language policy in the Swedish school in the 2010s is language awareness and openness. Characteristic for both institutions studied is interaction between language maintenance efforts and continuous accommodation between Swedish and Finnish in various communicative practices

The government has put a lot of efforts to promote Taiwan’s tourism industry over the past few years, such as “Project Vanguard for Excellence in Tourism” and “Opening up Mainland China People Coming to Taiwan for Tourism”, which makes the number of international visitors increase year by year and reached the highest level of 7.31 million in 2012. It is expected that the demand for accommodation will keep growing as more tourists are coming to Taiwan. Most of the domestic accommodation literature analyzing the demand for accommodation and customers’ satisfaction is case-study based, a more comprehensive evaluation in this area is very rare. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to analyze the foreign tourists’ accommodation choices and satisfaction of Taiwan in terms of the overall performance using data from 2007-2010 “Survey of Visitors Expenditure and Trend in Taiwan” conducted by the Tourism Bureau of Taiwan. Using STATA statistical software as well as the multinomial logit model and ordered logit model, we found that (1) the purpose of travel, the type of travel arrangement, age, income, and the country of residence are important determinants of accommodation selection. (2) The type of hotel, the purpose of travel, the type of travel arrangement, age, income, and the country of residence have significant effects on coustomers’ satisfaction. (3) Accommodation satisfaction has been increasing annually since 2008, which may be related to the fact that the government has implemented star-rating hotel apprasial plan since 2008.

Electronic word of mouth (eWOM) plays an important role in Airbnb, the largest accommodation platform. It provides information for hosts to share with other hosts, and also to travelers. Currently, online reviews are regarded as offering useful information for travelers. This thesis has analyzed the online user-generated contents in Airbnb in Taiwan. More and more travelers choose Airbnb because they can interact with hosts and communicate with people from different cultures, while other people love it because the price is cheaper than regular hotels. Therefore, we think that exploring the nature of sharing is an important factor in choosing house types when traveling. As we know, Airbnb offers two different types of accommodation: one is an entire place and the other is a shared room. To compare these two, we first used content analysis by NVivo 11 software to analyze the foreign traveler’s online user-generated content by retrieving different district data from Airbnb of Taiwan. Second, we collected variable rating scores, prices and quantity of reviews from an entire place and a shared room. We compared the two samples by T-test. The research found that review numbers for the host shows a significant difference between an entire place and a shared room in Taipei and Kaohsiung. In addition, price and rating score, including communication and accuracy, show a significant difference between an entire place and a shared room in Taichung, and there is no significant difference between an entire place and a shared room in Hualien. Second, we found that travelers prefer living in an entire place in Taipei and Taichung, while travelers prefer a shared room in Kaohsiung. Third, we identified the most frequently mentioned aspects of online user-generated contents that consumers pay attention to in four cities in Taiwan.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to analyse the influence of the spa as a decision factor in the rural tourism accommodation choice. A survey was administered on a final sample of 342 respondents that attended a rural tourism site at least once in their lives. The results revealed that older tourists usually travel with their partner and family while younger tourists usually travel with their friends. When travelling with their family, tourists are looking to spend time with them. On the other hand, findings also reveal that when travelling without children, “escape from daily routine”, “nature” and “new experiences” and “peace and quiet” are the main motivations for tourists. A cluster analysis revealed distinct groups based on their spa preferences and most valued accommodation features, resulting in the “Low Spa Preferences and Features” and the “High Spa Preferences and Features” segments. This second segment is looking for a full experience including: activities, quality and design features and relaxing at the spa. It was concluded that for this tourist-segment, the spa is a decisive factor for the accommodation choice. In order to further develop and detailed understanding of this tourist profile, future research should focus on in-depth one-to-one interviews.

Abstract:
This chapter investigates the moral basis for laws which accommodate the interests of religious believers in the light of the objection that individuals are morally responsible for their beliefs. One response to the objection says that individual responsibility is only operative when there are fair circumstances for choice. This sets out an alternative view according to which individuals have an interest in integrity self-respect, civic participation, and in ethical coherence. It explains how exceptionless laws can threaten these interests and they can be combined to ground a case for legal accommodation. Individual responsibility nonetheless has a role in this account.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter argues that analyzing regional and local institutional variations has great potential for generating new insights on the drivers of family policy reforms as well as on mechanisms how policies affect families’ choices and well-being. Drawing on the case of Germany and focusing on early childhood education and care (ECEC) services, this chapter first describes regional variations in ECEC provision and take-up. It then reviews theoretical perspectives and empirical evidence on drivers of regional policy variations. Next, the chapter proposes a framework for investigating socially stratified work–care choices of parents at subnational levels by connecting a macro–micro rational choice perspective with the capability approach and the accommodation model of childcare choices. After reviewing the evidence on the effects of regional ECEC variations on social inequalities in take-up, maternal employment, and work–family balance, the chapter concludes by pointing to research gaps and new frontiers of regional family policy analysis.

AbstractEach year a wide variety of immigrants arrive in the Netherlands, from all parts of the world. Some move on after a short time, others shuttle back and forth to their homeland and others still stay permanently. All these new residents make a home somewhere in the country. For most labour migrants, that is a free choice. Family migrants usually move in with a partner, and asylum migrants are assigned permanent accommodation in a particular municipality once they have been granted official refugee status. For all, however, the local government is the primary authority charged with helping them find their way in Dutch society.

Abstract:
This chapter details the process of creating an accommodation map and monitoring accommodation. Most parents provide many different forms of accommodation, and it is important to make a choice about which to focus on first. If the behavior is something the parents do because of the child’s anxiety and the child becomes more anxious if the parents do not do it, it is likely that it is an accommodation. Knowing as much as possible about the various accommodations parents have been providing will mean they have the most options to choose from, and this will make it more likely that they select the best accommodation to reduce first. After completing an accommodation map, it will be much easier for parents to keep track of the accommodations they continue to provide in the coming days and weeks. Once the parents start actively reducing the accommodation, the log will be a useful way to keep track of changes in the parents’ overall accommodation, alongside the more specific focus on the accommodation they choose to reduce.

Abstract:
Families with children belong to an important segment of participants in both domestic and outbound tourism. Families with children are thus also an important segment for tour operators. Based on a questionnaire survey, the paper aimed to identify the needs of Czech families with children, factors, and preferences that influence their choice of a holiday abroad. The questionnaire survey results showed which needs the tour operators should consider when preparing an offer for this segment. Based on the evaluation of the answers in questionnaire, it was found that the most important factors in choosing a holiday for families with children are: the location of the accommodation facility, the safety of the destination and the price of the package tour. Most often, this segment selects package tours from the regular catalogue offer, as it has more choices, and buys them directly at stone branches, as there is an opportunity to get advice from sellers as competent persons. The most popular destinations are Greece, Spain and Italy, where families with children most often go on eight-day package tours. Families with children also generally prefer four-star all-inclusive hotels and prefer air travel.

Abstract:
In this paper, the authors study the impact of selected indicators of tourism accommodation on the Gross Domestic Product. The indicators are related to the number of nights spent, therefore they are not directly related to the GDP, thus justifying the choice of Granger causality as method to assess the impact. The fact that most of the variables are found to be not stationary leads to the application of a special technique, adapted to the dataset and software used. The VAR models used do not pass all the specification tests, the authors have chosen a conservative approach, considering the results achieved with caution. Following the application of the methodology, mixed results have been achieved, showing that there is some degree of causality, which cannot be, however, generalized.

Abstract:
The application of innovative approaches to achieving "green" policies in the management of accommodation undoubtedly plays a key role in making it more attractive and desirable from the tourist's point of view. Globally, there is a growing trend for tourists to be more demanding in their choice and to stay in hotels offering favorable conditions that help both nature conservation and natural resources. As a result, the interest of tourists is growing, in search of hotels that leave a feeling of closeness to nature, show a responsible attitude towards it, and the desire to leave a paler footprint of human activity. This change in demand necessitates the introduction of innovations by hoteliers to successfully achieve the set goals, despite the slight increase in the cost of the service offered to the tourist with responsible thinking for the environment.

Abstract:
Ongoing urbanization, combined with market fundamentalism as the prevailing mode of political management, is leading to the spatial and social segregation of economic classes in cities. The housing market, being driven by economic interests rather than public policy, favors inflexible forms of ownership or tenancy that are increasingly incompatible with the more diverse forms of live-work patterns and family structures occurring in the society. This paper presents a research-by-design project that explores a speculative future scenario of housing, based on current developments in digital technologies and their impact on the mobility and accessibility to services enjoyed by urban residents. It references technology platforms that underpin the 'sharing economy' or 'gig economy', such as 'pay-as-you-go' car and bike sharing programs or internet and smartphone-based services for taxis or temporary accommodation. The study explores how new forms of participation in the housing market could circumvent the current segregation of different communities across the city. It describes a speculative system of distributed residential spaces, accessible to all on a 'pay-for-time-used' basis. By offering freedom of choice across domestic functions of greater range and accessibility than found within existing housing or hotel accommodation, the system would enable opportunistic or nomadic forms of living linked to the dynamic spatio-temporal occurrences of social, cultural or economic opportunities. The research references how new forms of social networking create new challenges and opportunities to participate in communities and explores how new technologies, applied to housing, can help to find a 'sense of belonging' within the technological society.

Abstract:
Institutional facilities often determine students’ choice of enrolment into tertiary institution and level of academic performance Rudhumbu,Tirumali and Kumari, (2017). Thus institutions invest more on installation and maintenance of facilities like business enterprise to compete favorably with their counterparts in order to have good number of students and to improve institutional image and status (Gibbs, 2001). Despite institutions stringent requirements of students’ academic results from high school, parents are more concerned of institutional image; safety and campus security. This paper focused on institutional facilities as predictors of students’ choice of enrolment into tertiary institutions for further studies. The study population comprised of year two students in all fields of study from each level of tertiary institutions (college of education, polytechnic and university) in Lagos, Nigeria. It also examined the impact of available facilities ranging from library facilities and services, internet facilities, campus accommodation and proximity to the library and lecture rooms, lecturers experience and academic qualifications are inclusive facilities examined in this study. The study also mirror on the admission requirements of the various schools under study, the structural facilities need of all categories of students in the study; the place of the physically challenged students inclusive. The study adopted survey designed research with the aid of both self structured questionnaire, observation and interview as research instruments for clarification. The services of research assistance hinged on the distribution and collation of questionnaires for the study. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software was used to analyse the data. Conclusion and recommendations was drawn based on the research findings. Keywords: Institutional facilities, library, students’ enrolment.

Abstract:
The need for temporary housing in natural disasters is an important issue for people to develop. During this period, post-disaster accommodation needs are often planned with temporary housing applications that require rapid installation and where the minimum needs of inhabitant can be met. Decisions to be taken in the residential area; can range from the choice of urban relations to the architectural design of temporary residences and can affect the resident's quality of life. A temporary home that will resist a recurring disaster should be a design suitable for climate conditions, close to the adequacy of basic needs in containers, security, and access to urban infrastructure, sustainability of materials, sociality, health and education facilities. In this context, environmental and architectural evaluation of Van and Onagawa container settlements planned after the major earthquakes in 2011 reveals the essence and importance of the study. It also aims to analyse and compare architectural and urban decisions in these settlements, creating a checklist for projects made with the principle of planning and design before future disasters.

Abstract:
Abstract Pneumatic micro-extrusion (PME) is a high-resolution direct-write additive manufacturing process, which has emerged as the process of choice for tissue engineering and biofabrication of a broad spectrum of organs and tissues (e.g., bone, aortic valve, blood vessels, human ear, and nose). Despite the advantages and host of biomedical applications engendered by the PME process — including, for example, (i) accommodation of a wide range of material viscosity (enabled via thermopneumatic material deposition), (ii) large build volume and standoff distance for tissue engineering, (iii) in situ UV curing, and (iv) high-resolution multimaterial deposition — there are intrinsically complex design, material, and process factors as well as interactions, which influence the functional properties of PME-fabricated tissues and organs. Consequently, investigation of the impact and interaction of each factor aligned with establishment of a physics-based, optimal material deposition regime is inevitably a burgeoning need. In this study, using the Taguchi design, the influence of four significant factors, i.e., layer height, infill density, infill pattern, and print speed, is investigated on the compression properties as well as the dimensional accuracy of polycaprolactone (PCL) bone scaffolds, fabricated using the PME process. Furthermore, a 3D, transient two-phase flow CFD model is forwarded with the aim to observe the flow of material within the deposition head as well as the micro-capillary (nozzle). The results of this study pave the way for further investigation of the bio-functional properties of bone scaffolds, e.g., biodegradation, cell proliferation and growth rate.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents an integrated workflow for feasibility study of cuttings reinjection (CRI) based on 3D geomechanics analysis. Solutions of various mechanical variables obtained with 3D geomechanics analysis at various level of scale are used as basis for designing parameters of CRI. Solutions of geomechanics analysis provide basis for a feasibility study and/or design of CRI: solution of 3D geostress distribution and the effective stress ratio are the essential factors for selecting the best location of injection well; solution of 1D geomechanics analysis provides basis for choice of true vertical depth (TVD) interval for injection sections; and hydraulic fracturing performed in the framework of 3D geomechanics analysis provides the most accurate solution for both the injection pressure window and fault reactivation related to CRI as well as estimation of seismic behavior. Example of feasibility study of cuttings reinjection with the integrated workflow proposed here is presented with data from a case in offshore West Africa. Solutions of geomechanics analysis are used for decision making at various stages of CRI. There are several faults in this region. The location of the injection well is chosen at a place with principal stress ratio's value at 0.68. The interval of injection well section is chosen as a 140-ft section with center at TVD = 6,700 ft. The numerical solution of injection pressure window is defined with 46 MPa as lower bound and 80 MPa as upper bound. The width of the fracture is 0.069 m, and length and height are 4,000 m and 100 m respectively. The accommodation volume of fluid with cuttings is 2.76×104 m3. The maximum magnitude of Richter scale of the seismicity corresponding to the fault reactivation is 3.15. The case study described in this paper provides an integrated workflow for feasibility study of CRI based on 3D geomechanics analysis. A best practice for this type of CRI design is also presented.
