Abstract:
Purpose: to study the relationship of accommodative (objective) and subjective criteria of different types of accommodation disorders.Material and methods. 62 patients (124 eyes) with myopic refraction, aged 10 to 18, were divided into 6 groups according to accommodation disorders types. All patients were tested objectively on a Speedy-i accommodograph, which determined the coefficient of accommodation response (CAR) and the coefficient of microfluctuations (CMF) and underwent MEM retinoscopy to determine the accommodation response. In addition, subjective methods were used to determine the amplitude of accommodation (by proximetry) and accommodation flexibility (by ±2 D flipper). Results. A rather close correlation was revealed between the accommodative and subjective evaluation criteria of ciliary muscle performance. Therefore, both the CAR and proximetry data may be used to determine accommodation amplitude. The power of accommodation response may be determined by CAR and MEM retinoscopy, while the accommodation state may be tested by CMF or accommodation flexibility.Conclusion. A statistically significant correlation between accommodative coefficients and the results of subjective tests enable the practitioners of outpatient care to use the available subjective methods of accommodation disorder diagnosis and, accordingly, determine the best suited optical correction and choose adequate methods of treatment of accommodation disorders.

Abstract:
As the followers of a comprehensive religion that regulates all spheres of human life, it is common for practising Muslims to require certain religious accommodations at their workplaces or during any clinical encounter. This paper aims to identify the factors that facilitate the provision of religious accommodation in healthcare for both Muslim healthcare workers and patients, by specifically examining three issues: provision of halal food, prayer facilities, and Muslim-friendly dress codes. In this qualitative study, document analysis and secondary data analysis are conducted. Thematic analysis is conducted to identify the factors which influence religious accommodation in healthcare. The findings illustrate that the prospect of accommodating religious needs does not merely depend on the religion of the majority of the population, but on various factors, such as the country or the state where the healthcare institution is situated, the healthcare institution itself, the sections or departments within the healthcare institution, and the personnel who deal directly with healthcare personnel or patients requiring the religious accommodation. In addition, awareness, attitudes, rules and standards, and availability of resources also influence the provision of religious accommodation. The results suggest that individuals seeking religious accommodation at any institution ought to play a more active role in obtaining accommodation at various levels. Besides that, religious accommodation can be enhanced by improving knowledge, attitude, standards, regulations, and availability of resources in healthcare institutions.

Abstract:
Since there is much speculation in the literature regarding the accommodative abilities of raptors, we undertook a behavioral study of accommodation in the five families of raptors. The resting refractive state and amplitude of accommodation were measured using infrared video photorefraction in a variety of wild-caught and captive-bred raptors. The resting corneal curvature and the extent of changes in corneal curvature during accommodation (corneal accommodation) were measured using video keratometry. External ocular and head dimensions were measured with calipers to look for correlates with accommodative amplitude. In general, all eyes examined were of high optical quality and relatively free of aberrations. No significant refractive errors were recorded in any of the birds examined (< 1.0 diopters (D)). In general, significant amplitudes of accommodation were measured in the hawks (up to 25.0 D), but little accommodation was seen in the owls. Corneal accommodation ranging from 2.8 to 6.2 D in magnitude was recorded in a number of the hawks. These differences in the accommodative behaviors of the owls and hawks are discussed with respect to the limitations of the behavioral techniques used, differences in the degree of cooperation of the different species, and real differences in the accommodative abilities of the owls and hawks in relation to their accommodative needs, such as when feeding.

Tonic accommodation decreased with age among children. In young adults, late-onset myopia will develop due to occupational near vision demands. This study aims to investigate the accommodation response and facility between children and young adults, in emmetrope (non-myopic) and myope group. The accommodation response and facility of young adults and children were measured using monocular estimation method (MEM), monocular accommodative facility (MAF) and binocular accommodative facility (BAF) with an exposure of near task for 15 minutes. Near task has significantly increased the lag of accommodation in all groups (p<0.05). However, the accommodation facility was not affected by near work in all groups (p>0.05). Abstract:
Purpose To examine whether the amplitude of accommodation, the accommodative response, and the accommodative facility is affected and correlated with changes in higher-order aberrations for patients with high myopia surgically treated with small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). Methods 35 highly myopic eyes (myopic spherical equivalent of at least 6 diopters) of 35 patients treated with SMILE were included. Assessments were made before and 3 months after surgery. Donders push-up-method was used to measure the amplitude of accommodation. The accommodative response was assessed using an open-field autorefractor”Grand Seiko WAM-5500” (Grand Seiko Co. Ltd., Hiroshima, Japan) in combination with a Badal optometer and stimuli of accommodation at 0.0, 0.5, 1.25, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 D, respectively. Accommodative facility was measured at 40 cm with ±2,00D flipper lenses. All measurements of accommodation were performed monocularly with the refractive error corrected with soft contact lenses. Results The amplitude of accommodation did not change statistically significantly (mean difference -0.24 D (SD 0.98), 95% CI of mean difference -0.58 D to 0.11 D, paired-sample t(34) = -1.39; P = 0.17). The accommodative responses at 0.0, 0.5, 1.25, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 D did not statistically significantly change either (F(6,29) = 1.15; P = .36). Finally, the accommodative facility was also unchanged with a mean difference of 1.11 cycles per minute (SD 5.11, 95% CI of mean difference -0.64 to 2.87, paired-sample t(34) = 1.29; P = 0.21). No clinically significant associations between changes in accommodation and higher-order aberrations were found. Conclusions SMILE does not alter the amplitude of accommodation, the accommodative response, nor the accommodative facility for highly myopic patients, and the surgically induced corneal higher-order aberrations do not affect the accommodative function.

Abstract:
Introduction. We evaluated the effectiveness of office-based accommodative/vergence therapy (OBAVT) with home reinforcement to improve accommodative function in myopic children with poor accommodative response.Methods. This was a prospective unmasked pilot study. 14 Chinese myopic children aged 8 to 12 years with at least 1 D of lag of accommodation were enrolled. All subjects received 12 weeks of 60-minute office-based accommodative/vergence therapy (OBAVT) with home reinforcement. Primary outcome measure was the change in monocular lag of accommodation from baseline visit to 12-week visit measured by Shinnipon open-field autorefractor. Secondary outcome measures were the changes in accommodative amplitude and monocular accommodative facility.Results. All participants completed the study. The lag of accommodation at baseline visit was 1.29 ± 0.21 D and it was reduced to 0.84 ± 0.19 D at 12-week visit. This difference (−0.46 ± 0.22 D; 95% confidence interval: −0.33 to −0.58 D) is statistically significant (p<0.0001). OBAVT also increased the amplitude and facility by 3.66 ± 3.36 D (p=0.0013; 95% confidence interval: 1.72 to 5.60 D) and 10.9 ± 4.8 cpm (p<0.0001; 95% confidence interval: 8.1 to 13.6 cpm), respectively.Conclusion. Standardized 12 weeks of OBAVT with home reinforcement is able to significantly reduce monocular lag of accommodation and increase monocular accommodative amplitude and facility. A randomized clinical trial designed to investigate the effect of vision therapy on myopia progression is warranted.

Abstract:
This study reports findings from studies examining potential read-aloud accommodations on standardized reading comprehension assessments for students with decoding difficulties. Three types of accommodations were evaluated: question stems and answer options read aloud; question stems, answer options, and proper nouns read aloud; and full read-aloud. Drawing from a sample of 207 fourth-grade students with and without decoding difficulties, we used 3-level hierarchical linear modeling to assess whether there were significant differences between students with and without decoding difficulties in the effect of each accommodation relative to no accommodation. Analyses showed that, for the students with decoding difficulties, all 3 read-aloud accommodations had significant effects when compared with no accommodation at all, and these effects were significantly larger than for average readers (effect sizes: 0.49, 0.55, and 0.50, respectively). When non–individualized education program students were excluded from the group of students with decoding difficulties, the effect sizes became notably larger.

Abstract:
Purpose. This study investigated how a conscious change in ocular accommodation affects intraocular pressure (IOP) and ocular biometrics in healthy adult volunteers of different ages. Methods. Thirty-five healthy volunteers without ocular disease or past ocular surgery, and with refractive error between −3.50 and +2.50 diopters, were stratified into 20, 40, and 60 year old (y.o.) age groups. Baseline measurements of central cornea thickness, anterior chamber depth, anterior chamber angle, cornea diameter, pupil size, and ciliary muscle thickness were made by autorefraction and optical coherence tomography (OCT), while IOP was measured by pneumotonometry. Each subject’s right eye focused on a target 40 cm away. Three different tests were performed in random order: (1) 10 minutes of nonaccommodation (gazing at the target through lenses that allowed clear vision without accommodating), (2) 10 minutes of accommodation (addition of a minus 3 diopter lens), and (3) 10 minutes of alternating between accommodation and nonaccommodation (1-minute intervals). IOP was measured immediately after each test. A 20-minute rest period was provided between tests. Data from 31 subjects were included in the study. ANOVA and paired t-tests were used for statistical analyses. Results. Following alternating accommodation, IOP decreased by 0.7 mmHg in the right eye when all age groups were combined ( p = 0.029). Accommodation or nonaccommodation alone did not decrease IOP. Compared to the 20 y.o. group, the 60 y.o. group had a thicker ciliary muscle within 75 μm of the scleral spur, a thinner ciliary muscle at 125–300 μm from the scleral spur, narrower anterior chamber angles, shallower anterior chambers, and smaller pupils during accommodation and nonaccommodation ( p ’s < 0.01). Conclusion. Alternating accommodation, but not constant accommodation, significantly decreased IOP. This effect was not lost with aging despite physical changes to the aging eye. A greater accommodative workload and/or longer test period may improve the effect.

Zhang, Hongyu and Paul D. R. Gamlin. Neurons in the posterior interposed nucleus of the cerebellum related to vergence and accommodation. I. Steady-state characteristics. J. Neurophysiol. 79: 1255–1269, 1998. The present study used single-unit recording and electrical microstimulation techniques in alert, trained rhesus monkeys to examine the involvement of the posterior interposed nucleus (IP) of the cerebellum in vergence and accommodative eye movements. Neurons related to vergence and ocular accommodation were encountered within a circumscribed region of the IP and their activity during changes in viewing distance was characterized. The activity of these neurons increased with decreases in vergence angle and accommodation (the far-response) but none showed changes in activity during changes in conjugate eye position and we therefore term them “far-response neurons.” Far-response neurons were found within a restricted region of the IP that extended ∼1 mm rostrocaudally and mediolaterally and 2 mm dorsal to the fourth ventricle. Microstimulation of this far-response region of the IP with low currents (<30 μA) often elicited divergence and accommodation for far. The behavior of 37 IP far-response neurons was examined during normal binocular viewing, during monocular viewing (blur cue alone), and during binocular viewing with accommodation open-loop (disparity cue alone). The activity of all cells was modulated under all three conditions. However, the change in activity of some of these neurons was significantly different under these three viewing conditions. The behavior of 70 IP far-response neurons was compared during normal binocular viewing and during viewing in which the accommodative response was significantly dissociated from the vergence response. The data from these two conditions was pooled and multiple regression analyses for each neuron generated two coefficients expressing the activity of the neuron relative to the vergence and to accommodative response respectively. On the basis of these coefficients, the overall activity of the neurons were classified as follows: 34 positively correlated with divergence, 11 positively correlated with far accommodation, 14 positively correlated with divergence and far accommodation, 9 positively correlated with divergence and accommodation, and 2 positively correlated with convergence and far accommodation. The results of this study demonstrate the involvement of a specific region of the posterior interposed nucleus of the cerebellum in vergence and accommodation. IP far-response neurons are active for vergence and accommodation irrespective of whether or not these eye movements are elicited by blur or disparity cues. The data in the present study strongly suggest that this cerebellar region is a far-response region that is involved in vergence as well as accommodative eye movements.

Abstract:
Background: Accommodation changes ocular parameters, such as the anterior chamber volume (ACV), anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA), and pupil diameter (PD), which can reflect a risk of angle-closure glaucoma. Previous studies of changes in ocular anterior segment parameters, have used high diopters or maximum amplitude. Here, we focused on normal accommodation at a reading distance of 30‒40 cm. The aim of this study was to assess changes in anterior segment parameters during a normal accommodative state, using a Scheimpflug imaging system. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 40 emmetrope subjects (mean ± SD of age: 22 ± 4.0 years) who met the inclusion criteria and provided informed consent were enrolled. Clinical history, refraction, amplitude of accommodation, slit lamp examination, Goldman applanation tonometry, and Pentacam investigations were performed on all subjects. Accommodative and non-accommodative targets were induced via the Pentacam. Two seconds were allowed for accommodation or relaxation prior to measurements in each eye. Results: Eighty normal eyes were evaluated; a small but statistically significant change in ACV, ACA, and PD during accommodation (P < 0.01, < 0.01, and < 0.05, respectively) was observed. The ACD did not change substantially with accommodation (P = 0.29). The mean ± SD values of ACV, ACD, ACA, and PD before and after accommodation were 151.85 ± 24.04 mm3 and 145.38 ± 23.30 mm3, 2.87 ± 0.28 mm and 2.86 ± 0.27 mm, 35.06° ± 3.68° and 33.84° ± 3.72°, and 3.46 ± 0.57 mm and 3.41 ± 0.53 mm, respectively. Conclusions: Accommodation changes ocular parameters, such as ACV, ACA, and PD, in healthy young emmetropes. Interestingly, the ACD remains unaltered during accommodation. Nevertheless, although these changes were statistically significant, they were not clinically significant in our study.

With project I present a make more attractive part of the territory of the dam, through which I bring two new paths for visitors from the coast and the other from the surface. The overall objective of the procejt is to attract visitors to the dam for more than one day trip or just a walk. The number of hotels and guesthouses on the dam is excessive. I have therefore decided to offer nature lovers accommodation in the country in the immediate vicinity of water while ensuring the necessary comfort. The objective of the present proposal is to present a potential year-round use options of Brno dam - Spa in the frozen surface of the dam, accommodation for schools, and summer camps could revitalize this part even during other year periods.

Abstract:
Individuals with disability have different needs of accommodations because the disability can express itself in different ways. There's laws that are designed to meet the individuals with disabilities so they can live on the same terms as individuals without disabilities. What’s not regulated in the law is how an equivalent education should be achieved for individuals with disabilities in higher education. In order to meet the needs of students with disabilities, accommodations have been established. Accommodations have been established so that students with disabilities can study at the same terms as students without. The aim of this study was to examine decision-makers' experience regarding accommodations for students with disabilities and whether the forms of accommodations correspond to the students' needs, especially in the light of the ongoing pandemic Covid-19. The method used was a qualitative method where semi-structured interviews were conducted with staff in charge of accommodations throughout Sweden.  The result and analysis have found that the accommodations have been affected by the fact that education has shifted to distance education due to Covid-19. The conclusion that has been drawn is that the accommodations are unavailable regardless of whether it is regular teaching or distance teaching. A further conclusion is that the focus should be on making the teaching environment available instead of focusing on expanding the accommodations.

With the growth of the disabled population in Taiwan, their welfare has been more valued by the government and many civic organizations. Among many kinds of disability welfare institutions, they are providing all-day accommodation for the disabled, the numbers of which have increased, and so have been the demands for professional personnel in such institutions. Given that educators are relatively more important in all-day accommodation of the welfare service institutions for the disabled, their abilities dominate the service quality of the institutions. Thus, good-qualified educators play critical roles in the development of the institutions and their service performance. This competency-based research aims to explore the competencies with which educators in all-day accommodation of the welfare service institutions for the disabled should be equipped. First of all, the study tries to construct the competency of educators in all-day accommodation of the welfare service institutions for the disabled by compiling the related literature, interviewing several experts, and referring to some competency items empirically used. Second, by applying Fuzzy Delphi Method and Analytic Network Process, ANP, the study constructs a competency selection model, and then, by using this model into practice, proves its effectiveness and anticipates it beneficially for all-day accommodation of the welfare service institutions for the disabled to employ eligible educators. The results of this study are as follows: 1.To establish the competency items and definitions for the the welfare service institutions for the disabled, there are Teamwork and Cooperation, Reaction Judgment, Interpersonal Emotional Intelligence, Service Attitude, Initiative, User Service Orientation, Flexibility, Communication and Expression, in order to set up the hierachical framework of the competency indices. 2.By collecting relevant literature and practical expert advice, and considetation of the dependent relationships among principles of competency, this research utilizes Analytic Network Process to systematize decompostition and quantify judgment, and obtains the competency of the weights: Reaction Judgment is 0.3156, Teamwork and Cooperation is 0.1844, Flexibility is 0.0853, Communication and Expression is 0.0812, Initiative is 0.0793, User Service Orientation is 0.0777, Service Attitude is 0.0758. Then through the establishment of the weight of competency indicators, the study consturcts a compentence-based selection model of the educators of the welfare service institutions for the disabled with weights standard. 3.Through the empirical study, the competence-based model to select the educators in all-day accommodation of the welfare service institutions for the disabled can effectively discriminate outstanding the educators. The results will provide all-day accommodation of the welfare service institutions for the disabled in the selection of the educators and human resource activities of reference resources, in order to assist organizations to enhance service quality and organizational competitiveness, and further, that could maintenance organization's competitive advantage.

Abstract:
This chapter explains why it is important for parents beginning the process of reducing family accommodation of their child’s anxiety to choose a target accommodation on which to focus. One reason is that parents may find it impossible to stop accommodating all at once. There may be too many accommodations, and even if the parents could stop them all, doing so would likely make the process needlessly difficult for the child. Adjusting to change in the parents’ behavior is not easy for the child, and reducing one accommodation at a time will allow the child to adjust to the new behavior without being overwhelmed. Moreover, the child’s anxiety will improve more rapidly if the parents are able to be consistent in one area, even if they continue to accommodate in other ways, than if they behave inconsistently across a variety of situations. The chapter then provides some suggestions for picking a good target accommodation to reduce. It also discusses what accommodations are not good candidates for this focus.

Accommodations are a common feature of life, but a vexing problem in civil rights law. To accommodate is to disrupt the status quo, to regard another, to recognize one’s needs and humanity. Accommodations can be a powerful thing. Even brief accommodations are an exchange of information, which become crucial experiences, as they force us to reckon with a harsh truth: The idea that all people are created equal is a legal command, not a practical description. We all have different needs and capabilities, different beliefs and wants. We accommodate not to erase these differences but to respect them. As a vehicle to realize our ambitions, and a functional means to make equality real for everyone in need of respect, accommodations are a way to bring outsiders in. As a result, accommodation is the antidote to modern discrimination. As we turn inward, as individuality becomes the common experience, accommodation is the right tool for our time. It is a means of making meaningful change.

Abstract:
The influence of gas-gas and gas-wall interactions on the heat flux predictions for a dense gas confined between two parallel walls of a micro/nano-channel is realized using combined Monte Carlo (MC) and Molecular Dynamics (MD) techniques. The accommodation coefficients are computed from explicit MD simulations. These MD coefficients are then used as effective accommodation coefficients in Maxwell-like boundary conditions in MC simulations. We find that heat flux predictions from MC based on these coefficients compare good with the results of explicit simulations except the case when there are hydrophobic gas-wall/gas-gas interactions. For this case an artificial wall was introduced in order to measure these MD accommodation coefficients at this artificial border. Good agreement is found then for both hydrophilic and hydrophobic gas-wall interactions and we show this by confronting the heat fluxes from explicit MD simulations with the the MC heat flux predictions for all the generic accommodation coefficients.

Mass flow rate measurements in a single silicon micro channel were carried out for various gases in isothermal steady flows. The results obtained from hydrodynamic to near free molecular regime by using a powerful experimental platform, allowed us to deduce interesting information, notably about the reflection/accommodation process at the wall. In the 0 – 0.3 Knudsen range, a continuum analytic approach was derived from NS equations, associated to first or second order slip boundary conditions. Identifying the experimental mass flow rate curves to the theoretical ones the tangential momentum accommodation coefficient (TMAC) of various gases was extracted. Over all the Knudsen range [0 – 50] the experimental results were compared with theoretical values calculated from the kinetic approaches: using variable accommodation coefficient values as fitting parameter, the theoretical curves were fitted to the experimental ones. Whatever the Knudsen range and whatever the theoretical approach, the TMAC values are found decreasing when the molecular weights of the gas increase (as long as the different gases are compared using the same approach). Moreover, the values of the various accommodation coefficients are rather close one to other but sufficiently smaller than unity to conclude that the full accommodation modelling is not satisfactory to describe the gas/wall interaction.

A novel thickness-accommodation technique for origami based mechanisms is introduced. This technique modifies a zero-thickness pattern by splitting each vertex along the minor folds into a system of two vertices. The modified fold pattern then has thickness applied to it and the resulting mechanism is kinematically equivalent to the modified fold pattern. Origami patterns that are rigid-foldable and only have two panels that stack between folds are utilized in the technique. The technique produces thick origami mechanisms where all panels lie in a plane in the unfolded state without any holes or protrusions and maintain a single degree of freedom. Steps for synthesizing split-vertex mechanisms are presented and examples of split-vertex mechanisms are shown. Advantages and potential applications of the technique are discussed.

Induction of drug-free permanent organ accommodation is the ultimate goal of transplant therapy. Current pharmacological agents, however, are non-specific in their actions and generally do not confer immunological tolerance. Inhibitors of T cell receptor signaling (tacrolimus and cyclosporine A) represent the mainstay in transplant management. These agents exert their therapeutic effects by dampening the activities of all T cells. Chronic exposure to these agents increases the risk of developing opportunistic infections and malignancies. Given that more than 20,000 Americans undergo organ transplantations each year, there is an urgent need to develop specific therapies to mitigate graft rejection and create conditions conducive for long-term transplant accommodation.

A technique for thickness accommodation in origami-inspired mechanism design is introduced. Mathematically, origami panels are generally assumed to be planar with zero thickness. Origami models can be viewed as kinematic mechanisms where folds are revolute joints and panels are links. An origami-inspired mechanism can achieve the same kinematic motion as the paper origami source model if all joints lie along the folds in the zero-thickness plane. The panels are stacked in sequence in the closed (stowed) position. A joint plane is chosen and each panel is given extensions connecting each panel to the chosen plane. The extensions from the stacked panels allow each panel to be rigidly connected to its revolute joint in the chosen plane with all other joints. The accommodation technique utilizes origami models that are rigidly foldable. The height of the extensions are determined by the sum of the thicknesses of all panels between its stowed panel and the chosen joint plane. Any panel thickness can be accommodated, including multiple panel thicknesses within the same mechanism. Process steps for offset panel design of origami-inspired mechanisms are presented.

Abstract:
This presentation will discuss some of the current statistics regarding distance education in the United States. It will also address how student disabilities (and their associated accommodations) are and should be impacting these online course offerings. According to a recent government study, 66% of US colleges currently offer some form of for-credit distance education (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2008). In 2007 more than 20% of higher education students were enrolled in at least one online course, and the 2007 online enrollments were 245% that of the online enrollment seen in 2002 (Allen & Seaman, 2008). These educational studies have revealed what most educators already knew: online education is becoming increasingly important to colleges nationwide. The number of online courses continues to increase, and larger numbers of students are taking significant portions of their coursework online. Students reporting disabilities (and requesting accommodation) have also been increasing. Eleven percent of undergraduates have reported or registered as having a disability (NCES, 2006). The 11% statistic suggests that at least 2.2% of the online student population are also students with disabilities, and that 2.2% is likely to be too low because the flexibly offered by online courses is likely to appeal to students with disabilities. Ensuring accessibility in online courses, therefore, is clearly a practical consideration. Education studies have also revealed that some schools aren’t doing all that they can or should to ensure accessibility. Schools were asked how commonly they received requests for academic accommodation. Nearly a quarter of the schools responding didn’t know whether or not requests of this type were ever received (NCES, 2008). Another study tracked how closely accessibility guidelines for online course web sites were followed. Nearly half of the schools reported only moderate to minor application of the guidelines while over one-third of the schools either didn’t follow any of the guidelines or were unaware if guidelines were being followed (NCES, 2003).
