Abstract:
David Hume and Adam Smith were friends, but their friendship does not imply that the two authors shared the same ideas, or should have shared the same ideas. Money is an example of a subject of disagreement between David Hume and Adam Smith that has either been ignored or interpreted as a puzzle, given their friendship. I suggest that Smith did not replicate or cite Hume’s exposition of the quantity of money in his Wealth of Nations because Smith thought Hume was wrong. For Smith, Hume fell into the mercantilist fallacy of considering the accumulation of money as wealth. Rather than accumulati

This paper shows that increasing the rate of monetary growth increases the capital-labor ratio in the long run when the initial inflation rate is low but decreases the capital-labor ratio when the inflation rate is high. This paper provides a theoretical justification for the empirical result by Bullard and Keating (1996) that inflation has positive real effects for low-inflation countries in the long run but negative effects for higher-inflation countries.

The function of medium of exchange involves the use of funds in the area of trading. Use of money as a common counting unit is connected with the economical function of the measure of value. AbstractJohn Locke's theory of property has been the subject of sustained contention between two major perspectives: a socioeconomic perspective, which conceives Locke's thought as an expression of the rising bourgeois sensibility and a defense of the nascent capitalist relations, and a theological perspective, which prioritizes his moral worldview grounded in the Christian natural law tradition. This essay argues that a closer analysis of Locke's theory of money in theSecond Treatisecan provide an alternative to this binary. Abstract:
Money has two key properties—accumulation (value) and liquidity (exchange), which results in what we define as “The Money Paradox”. In the language of Physics, money can be in either static (value, potential energy) or dynamic (exchange, kinetic energy) state, however the same money can’t be both static and dynamic at the same time because the states are mutually exclusive. In our paper we discuss the conditions under which money changes its state and how such transformations impact continuity (stability) of economics. Our goal is to identify the measures of continuity and thus sustainability

<p> Money is generally assumed to be a good thing, but there is a downside to wealth. Research has shown that more money does not necessarily lead to greater happiness, but the reasons why remain unclear, and there is a paucity of studies comparing the wealthy to the non-wealthy. This study explored the effect of money on well-being, as well as the various problems associated with abundance. Having more money creates its own unique set of problems, as one must tend to one&rsquo;s money, protect it, and deal with the insatiable urge to accumulate more of it.
