SummaryThe purpose of this paper is to analyze relations between seed quality characteristics and the influence of contaminated urban areas on seed quality of sycamore maple trees in different locations across Novi Sad (Serbia). This research analyzed seed germination of 29 adult trees of sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) and its red leaf variety (Acer pseudoplatanus ‘atropurpureum’ Späth.). Our results indicate a medium strong positive correlation between seed weight and viable seed. Sycamore maple trees from the same urban typology do not have significant influence on seed quality char

Sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) is one of the most valuable species of Serbia?s noble hardwoods. Based on the results of previous research, it can be concluded that this is a species with a pronounced ecological plasticity and high genetic potential. From the aspect of ornamentalness, one of the most frequent cultivars in urban green spaces and tree rows is the cv ?Atropurpureum?, also known as ?Spaethii? or ?Purpureum?. It is distinguished by dark green leaf adaxials and purple undersides, which give the crown an extraordinarily attractive appearance. The genetic potential of the anal

Acer pseudoplatanus is a worldwide-distributed tree which contains toxins, among them hypoglycin A (HGA). This toxin is known to be responsible for poisoning in various species, including humans, equids, Père David’s deer and two-humped camels. We hypothesized that any herbivore pasturing with A. pseudoplatanus in their vicinity may be at risk for HGA poisoning. To test this hypothesis, we surveyed the HGA exposure from A. pseudoplatanus in species not yet described as being at risk.
