Walker, Philip. Library Impact Practice Brief: Assessing Library Information Services and Demonstrating Value through the Tailored Design Method. Association of Research Libraries, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.29242/report.vanderbilt2022.

Full text
Abstract:
Demonstrating the value of a biomedical library can be a daunting and somewhat ineffective task. The current literature base contains many articles attempting to achieve this goal by analyzing the collections through resource usage and citation analysis. However, with competing budgets across university campuses, it has become essential to investigate and develop methods in which libraries can correlate collections and services as it relates to their role as a partner across the scholarly, education, and service missions of our institutions. This practice brief discusses various methods and st

Abstract:
Presented at the 10th Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis, Purdue University, USA Team research has been much more widespread in the natural sciences than in economics. Yet when it comes to modeling an economy (especially the global economy) in detail, the quantity and range of inputs necessary makes team work the only viable option. Drawing some inspiration from Australian experience, GTAP’s founder, Tom Hertel, realized this from his Project’s inception in 1993. The data base required to model international trade flows could not have been developed without the enthusiastic cooperat

Abstract:
This study provides additional insights into the lived experiences of international exchange students in New Zealand. It contributes to the literature on international higher education by proposing an expanded framework of the relationship between students’ lived experiences and wellbeing. The findings make an essential contribution to students’ wellbeing in international higher education by generating a thematic framework that describes how positive and negative experiences enhance international exchange students’ wellbeing. The negative and positive experiences in the framework comprise five

Abstract:
As part of ARL’s Research Library Impact Framework initiative, the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Libraries used its humanities core program—a year-long undergraduate freshman course that introduces students to the development of scholarly research using primary and secondary source resources—to answer the research question, “When students ‘see themselves’ represented in archives, do they experience an affective response that has an effect on how and what they learn through primary source literacy workshops?” UCI used entrance and exit surveys as assessment tools. Survey results show t

Rezaei-Hartmann, Nasim, and Rebecca Saive. A step-by-step guide to simulating an ant-like piezoelectric robot. University of Twente, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.3990/1.9789036556330.

Full text
Abstract:
This tutorial is about building up a COMSOL model for a robot ant. In this model, we have a robot with a size of a few centimeters and which is based on piezoelectric ceramics. This robot has already been built by the University of Michigan and some COMSOL models only for the legs’ operation are already existing and are published. From what we know, the full ant robot had not been computationally simulated before. Here, we provide a tutorial on how to successfully achieve this task. Furthermore, we uploaded a video on YouTube to visualize the results: https://youtu.be/ePyD8TAQt3I

Abstract:
The Calm Spaces Initiative at Sheffield Hallam University was developed in response to increasing demand for accessible, preventative mental health and wellbeing interventions embedded within everyday campus environments. Grounded in a Theory of Change framework, the initiative integrates sensory-friendly, emotionally regulating resources - such as posters and digital media -into high-traffic and reflective university spaces. Full text
Abstract:
The appearance of ecological landscape design often causes public dissatisfaction. Precedent texts and studies, especially in the landscape perception and design fields, reiterated the affection for the ‘picturesque’ and the ‘park-like’ landscape of most Americans, resulting in their resistance to the ‘messiness’ of ecological landscapes. This research, therefore, studied how Thais perceive and respond to the look of the landscape, investigating if the ‘picturesque’ and the ‘messiness’ play a role in their perception and appreciation of ecological urban park design in the country. Abstract:
Achieving authentic learner assessment is not an easy task. Online teaching and learning require assessment of both formative and summative assessment. The combination of the two types of assessments facilitates measurement of learning outcomes, application of knowledge, metacognition through reflection and self-assessment, interaction through collaborative activities, creation of new knowledge and achievement of higher order thinking which is a daunting task to many organizations.
