The paper covers the causes of occurrence and the methods of investigating soil acidity in Kozova destrict, Ternopil region. It is a highly topical issue, since increased soil acidity negatively influences the growth and the development of most cultivated crops and affects favourable microbiological soil properties. Soil acidity is caused by hydroions that are formed under the dissociation of acids and hydrolytic acid salts and are absorbed by the smallest soil particles – colloids, which can go into interstitial water. Abstract This study aims to evaluate which of the materials currently available on the market could overcome the problem of corrosion and withstand highly aggressive conditions in the exploitation of geothermal resources in volcanic environments. Our investigations were triggered by the conditions on Lahendong geothermal field (North Sulawesi, Indonesia): well LHD-23 presents one of the greatest challenges due to its capacity of producing > 20 MWe of energy from a single well and in the same time having very low pH (2 - 3) and relatively high chloride (1,500 mg/L) and sulphate (1,600 mg

Abstract Traditional corrosion-measuring techniques applied to the study of microbially induced corrosion cannot distinguish between biotic and abiotic contributions. This paper describes a technique that permits this distinction. A cell composed of two galvanically coupled compartments, electrolytically connected but biologically separated, has been used to evaluate the electrochemical impact of naturally occurring estuarine microorganisms on four metal substrata. The colonizing species and the electrochemical impact of colonization varied among the metals evaluated. Preferential selection of

Salen derivative, 4 was synthesized and studied for determination of its protonation constants by potentiometric titration. The protonation constants at 25 degree Celsius in 0.1 and 0.5 M KNO[subscript 3] are log K[subscript 1]=10.06, log K[subscript 2]=7.96, log K[subscript 3] = 7.12, log K[subscript 4]= 3.28 and log K[subscript 1]=10.48, log K[subscript 2]=7.99, log K[subscript 3] = 4.71, log K[subscript 4] =2.77, respectively. Complexation for the 4 complexes with Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) in 0.01 M Bu[subscript 4]NCF[subscript 3]SO[subscript 3] in MeOH were determined by UV-VIS spectrometr

Abstract:
Experimental data on the solubility and speciation of uranium in hydrothermal solution is required to improve genetic models for the formation of ore deposits, yet very few data of this type have been published. Of particular interest is the oxidation state of the uranium in solution, as conventional wisdom suggests that U is dissolved in the oxidized U(VI) state and precipitated as reduced U(IV) minerals, yet recent experiments have shown ppm-level solubility for U(IV). This study investigated the mobility of reduced U(IV) and oxidized U(VI) in acidic (pH = 2), fluoride- bearing and alkaline

Elimination of emissions of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide from confined animal and feeding operations (CAFO) using an adsorption/liquid-redox process with biological regeneration. Abstract:
The project was originally aimed at investigating and developing new efficient methods for cost effective removal of ammonia (NH₃) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) from Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO), in particular broiler and laying houses (NH₃) and hog houses (H₂S). In both cases, the principal idea was to design and operate a dedicated air collection system that would be used for the treatment of the gases, and that would work independently from the general ventilation system. The advantages envisaged: (1) if collected at a point close to the source of generation, pollutants would
