Full textThis report deals with an exam report written by Olle Hjalmarsson and Thomas Likar, students at Högskolan i Halmstad.
The project was carried out for Haldex Traction AB in Landskrona whose business consist of manufacturing automatic all wheel drive systems (AWD-system). These systems consist of a plate clutch which activates all four wheels of a 4-wheel driven vehicle. An important component in these clutches is the accumulator which basically consists of a piston under the load of a spring which creates an oil pressure with the help of an electric motor used for actuating the clutch.
At Haldex difficulties has been experienced regarding the assembly of the accumulator parts due to the small tolerances between the piston and the hole of the accumulator in the cast aluminium housing. Attempts have been made to assemble the parts in existing robot cells. The precision was however not sufficient and the pistons have sometimes ripped of pieces of the housing containing the accumulator, damages which in turn have caused leakage in the accumulator valves.
Before the project was started a machine was manufactured for the assembly of the accumulator. This solution resulted in a hand operated machine which in an ergonomically point of view proved to be unsuitable. There was a need for a new machine or even a new method of assembling.
The project followed a dynamic product development process which was initiated with an analysis of existing equipment at the plant in Landskrona. Seven different concepts were presented to the company and one was chosen for further development.
The project resulted in a design of a semi automatic machine controlled by different types of pneumatic cylinders. The final design of the machine still contained some manual steps but the ones that were likely to result in injury were eliminated.
The report that was finished in December 2006 contains lists of details of chosen components and drawings of all components that need to be manufactured.

Full textThe SOLAS regulations for merchant vessels states that in the event of loss of power, a backup power supply will start automatically. This paper investigated the possibility to replace the widely-used generator driven by a fossil-fuel powered internal combustion engine, with a UPS. Focus of the investigation included regulations concerning the use of accumulators onboard, market product range fulfilling the legal requirements and price difference based on purchase price and maintenance costs for 25 years. The cost results where compared as a Life Cycle Cost calculation. Regulations by the Swedish transport agency and the Classification DNV-GL allow the use of emergency power from accumulators or generator. For the possibility to investigate through cost estimations, a theoretical model of a merchant vessel with Swedish flag, was set up. All companies contacted were Swedish manufacturer. The results in the LCC show the situation of today and lets us know that the most cost efficient investment is the conventional emergency generator.

Full textDen presenterade forskningen studerade fördelar och nackdelar med ett hydraulisk hjälpsystem för fordonsdrift (HAD) för en 25 meter lång timmerlastbil. Syftet var att undersöka hur drivlinans prestanda med avseende på energy, ekonomi och miljöpåverkan, påverkas av de adderade komponenterna, de hydrauliska ackumulatorerna. Hjälpsystemet är helt enkelt ett hydrostatiskt transmissionssystem. Idealt, kan bränsleförbrukning och kostnad reduceras genom att använda ackumulatorer i systemet. För att verifiera denna hypotes, har modell-baserade simuleringar utförts och resultaten har analyserats för konstantfartskörning och en körcykel med upprepade accelerationer och inbromsningar. Dessutom, har ett HAD-system med och utan ackumulator jämförts. Simuleringsresultaten visar att ett system med ackumulatorer förbrukar ca 14% mindre bränsle än ett system utan ackumulatorer. Ett ackumulatorstött system ger också 15% högre framdrivningseffekt vid accelereration. I avhandlingen dimensionera också storleken på ackumulatorerna, både teoretiskt och med simuleringar. Det finns en liten skillnad mellan resultaten från den teoretiska beräkningen och simuleringarna, som kan bero på att volymetriska förlusterna inte har tagits med i simuleringarna. En ackumulator med en storlek på 57 L visar sig ha den mest effektiva storleken för den studerade körcykeln. Vid högre körhastigheter, kommer verkningsgraden att minska till viss del. Inga fysiska tester har gjorts, men de kommer att utföras i framtiden.

Full textThis report identifies how the system design of low voltage power distribution of the railway can be more cost effective. In the current situation there is a norm on the system design that tends to be replicated each year. This has brought a lack of innovation in the field. The purpose of the thesis was to come up with two model stations with the interlocking system M11 respectively M95, where the positioning and nominal size of the UPS:s would be determined to provide a cost effective solution. Furthermore, the cable dimensioning of the model stations was computed as well as the possibility of replacing UPS-systems with rectifier-systems. The model stations were based on two already existing operating sites, Fagersta C (M11) and Skänninge (M95). Lastly, different energy storage alternatives for UPS-systems were compared to acquire the most appropriate choice. Through simulations and calculations in, inter alia, the computer program El-Vis, the low voltage power distribution was dimensioned for the model stations. The thesis shows that a distributed UPS-system is preferred in an economical point of view compared to a centralized UPS-system. Furthermore, the thesis establishes that the rectifier system Rectiverter can replace UPS:s. It also states that accumulators are the most suitable alternative for energy storage.

Full textDistrict heating in Sweden is a well established way of delivering heat for both industrial and private applications. With the next generation of district heating on the doorstep, changes of existing district heating networks may become a regular occurrence. Despite the fact that these kinds of reconstructions are not quite applicable yet, refurbishments of existing district heating networks are still sometimes necessary in order to deal with new prerequisites that may appear. In order to achieve a good estimation of what these new prerequisites will require and possibly cost, the usage of tools such as models for simulation are valuable. This study has evaluated a future increase of power demand and the subsequent expansion of the produced heat concerning the district heating network located in the city of Malå. The evaluation was carried forth by establishment of a simulation model which was based on present literature. Empirical data was used both as input and for error estimation. Two hypothetical scenarios were examined in which the power demand of an industrial customer is assumed to be doubled. The first represented the system as it is defined presently, while the other introduced a tank thermal energy storage to the system. The results of the simulation yielded an estimate of how much heat a new plant needs to produce in order to attain a set goal. These suggested that the necessary heat production in the new plant needs to be at least 10.50 MW. Furthermore, the results indicated that the inclusion of a thermal energy storage of this kind and with the defined priorities will not reduce the required size of a new production plant. However, they did indicate that the defined thermal energy storage may contribute to a reduction in the number of power fluctuations occurring in the system. Depending on other configurations, the frequency of the power fluctuations were reduced between 0.2 to 25.5 percent with the inlcusion of the smallest examined thermal energy storage.
