Many practical applications in the field of medical image processing require valid and reliable segmentation of images. In this dissertation, we propose three different semi-automatic segmentation frameworks for 2D-upper torso medical images to construct 3D geometric model of the torso structures. In the first framework, an extended version of the Otsu&rsquo
s method for three level thresholding and a recursive connected component algorithm are combined. The segmentation process is accomplished by first using Extended Otsu&rsquo
s method and then labeling in each consecutive slice. Since

Abstract:
In this thesis, we characterize the proprietary active scanning algorithm of several wireless network interface cards. Our experiments are the first of its kind to observe the complete scanning process as the wireless network interface cards probe all the channels in the 2.4GHz spectrum. We discuss the: 1) correlation of channel popularity during active scanning and access point channel deployment popularity; 2) number of probe request frames statistics on each channel; 3) channel probe order; and 4) dwell time. The knowledge gained from characterizing wireless network interface cards is imp

A principal component least mean square (PC-LMS) adaptive algorithm is described that has considerable benefits for large control systems used to implement feedforward control of single frequency disturbances. The algorithm is a transform domain version of the multichannel filtered-x LMS algorithm. The transformation corresponds to the principal components of the transfer function matrix between the sensors and actuators in a control system at a single frequency. The method is similar to other transform domain LMS algorithms because the transformation can be used to accelerate conve

In the last decade acoustic noise has become more and more regarded as a problem. In cars, boats, trains and aircraft, low-frequency noise reduces comfort. Lightweight materials and more powerful engines are used in high-speed vehicles, resulting in a general increase in interior noise levels. Low-frequency noise is annoying and during periods of long exposure it causes fatigue and discomfort. The masking effect which low-frequency noise has on speech reduces speech intelligibility. Low-frequency noise is sought to be attenuated in a wide range of applications in order to improve comfort and s

Artificial intelligence (AI) agents will need to interact with both other AI agents and humans. One way to enable effective interaction is to create models of associates to help to predict the modeled agents' actions, plans, and intentions. If AI agents are able to predict what other agents in their environment will be doing in the future and can understand the intentions of these other agents, the AI agents can use these predictions in their planning, decision-making and assessing their own potential.
