Over the past 20 years metropolitan plans have attempted to improve urban sustainability by reshaping Australian cities to include a network of compact activity centres. This research provides the first long-term and comprehensive evaluation of the implementation of greater Brisbane's activity centre policies and finds that although the plans were used as intended, they failed to achieve the desired outcomes. Background The UK National Health Service (NHS) has been identified as a key domain for tackling non-communicable diseases through reducing population physical inactivity. Research demonstrates that health professionals struggle to deliver existing physical activity (PA) interventions due to a perceived lack of time and confidence in behaviour change.
